Villa Leopoldo C is a romantic 65-square-meter (about 700 square feet) apartment which sleeps two people. It features a view to the hills famous as ‘Crete Senesi ‘. There is also a shared swimming pool and shared gardens. The apartment is part of an authentic medieval castle located between Montalcino and Siena .
It features air-conditioning and parking space.
At Villa Leopoldo C you will have a double bedroom, a bathroom, and a large living-room with a fireplace and a kitchenette.
The place
You will be guests in a small medieval castle in stone on the top of a verdant hill on the outskirts of a small and gracious... hamlet, called Montisi .
You will be in a region of Tuscany which lies south of Siena and which is called ‘Le Crete Senesi’, a territory which has been preserved and protected due to its environmental, historical and artistic beauty. You will have the most loved landscape of Tuscany around you: one of sweet and green hills whose tops are adorned by lines of cypress trees and also medieval villages set around towered castles.
You will be in a region where the most famous wine in the world is produced: the ‘Brunello di Montalcino ’. You will be able to visit the numerous farms which produce wine and taste extraordinary wines as well. The town of Montalcino is only 27 km (about 16.8 miles) away.
In the hamlet of Montisi, just a few steps away from the house, you will have a restaurant and small food shops.
Its history
You will live your vacation in a fort whose origins date back to the fourteenth century, when the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala of Siena, owner of the surrounding lands, built it as a administrative place and a fortified warehouse to the products of the local terrain.
The castle kept its same functions throughout centuries to come with different administrators until the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo, in 1775, decided to sell the fort and its lands. The castle and part of the lands were bought by people who are actually ancestors of the current proprietors. Therefore, the same family has maintained this castle through centuries, cultivating it with love to its traditions.
Nowadays, the agricultural farm linked to the castle produces wine, oil, and vin santo: products that you can taste in loco!
The shared gardens and swimming pool
As guests of Villa Leopoldo C you will have a 11x7 meter (about 36 x 22 feet) swimming-pool available. It’s located in a large garden. The swimming pool is in a panoramic position, allowing you to have a view of the below valley even from inside the water. The sun-drenched area around is furnished with umbrellas, deck chairs, and sunloungers. You can even sit under a gracious portico covered with roof tiles to relax in the shade and enjoy and scenery consisting of the valley.
The swimming pool is available from half April to half October.
Not far from the swimming pool, you will have a barbecue area, with a barbecue in stone. And also under a pergola, you will have wooden tables and benches. In this area you will also find a large patio sustained by stone arches, with a ping-pong table and bikes available free of charge to all guests.
Another old garden, shaded by two high Lebanon cedars, is located along the old surrounding walls of the castle. From here you will have a wide and endless view of the sea of hills below. You will be able to relax in the shades of trees in perfect peacefulness, enjoying even two large stone tables amidst the perfume of lemon trees planted in large terracotta vases.
From this garden you can reach the living-room available to all the guests of the castle. The room features a vault ceiling in bricks and is furnished in a simple and rustic way, with tables and chairs, a wicker furniture area, bottles of wine on shelves on the wall, and old countryside objects. A nice and characteristic place which is perfect to be enjoyed with friends!
The house
Villa Leopoldo C is a large apartment, and all its rooms feature a wonderful view of the valley. You step into the apartment from the inside courtyard of the castle. You will enter a living-room with a romantic balcony overlooking the garden and the valley. Near the balcony you will have a couch and two armchairs.
In the living-room there is a kitchenette with a four-burner stove, a small oven, and a fridge.
The double bedroom is large, and it features an elegant painted ceiling. The bathroom inside the room has a shower.
Nearby tourist attractions
Every year, on the first Sunday of August, the castle where you will stay hosts the beginning of a medieval costume parade whose climax is reached with the celebration of an old medieval competition, so-called ‘Giostra di Simone ’. It is a very interestingly historical revival! Not to be missed! Moreover, in the area, between October and the end of November, there is also the Mostra del Tartufo Bianco (Fest of the White Truffles).
From Villa Leopoldo C you can easily plan one-day visits to the most beautiful cities of art in Tuscany. Distances: Siena is 50 km (about 31 miles) away and Florence is 110 km (about 68 miles) away. At 8 km (about 5 miles) there is the little town of San Giovanni d’Asso, at 12 km (about 7.5 miles) there is Pienza , with shops open even on Sunday, and at 15 km (about 9 miles) there is Sinalunga .
The nearest airports are those in Florence and Rome .

Its a large apartment, in a medieval Farmers Grange, the location has been superb for us as we explored Montepulciano and Montcalcino from here, a good range of restaurants, best is La Romita.
We brought all our food /goods from the local baker and Mini Market.
Accom good nice and clean and the manager spoke English
Did a tour of the Cantina under the apartment, dates back to the 15th Century, Good pool nice place to stay, very quiet.
We also did the hot air Balloon, a must , as it leaves from Montisi.
