    Additional Location Information

    Lac De Gurson
Within easy walking distance (1km) is the Lac de Gurson. This lake complex was built about twenty years ago by all the local communes. It has two large lakes, one has a beach area with beach type cafes, bars and restaurants. There are areas for fishing and quiet paths which are excellent for walks, and also two very good tennis courts, and a boules area.
    Villefranche-de-Lonchat
At the top of our 200 metre entrance drive is a country lane which leads in one direction to our local village of Villefranche-de-Lonchat which is less than 2km away. The village has a great deal of history associated with it dating back to the 12th century. There are two churches dating from the 14th century and a museum has been established in the Hotel de Ville to illustrate the local history. Villefranche has a pretty tree lined village square, two cafes, restaurant, boulangerie, butcher, post office, pharmacy and a general store.
    Beautiful Countryside
Turning out of our entrance drive away from Villefranche leads through many hectares of woodland to the pretty hilltop village of St. Vivien. In all directions there are picturesque country lanes winding through forests, fields of sunflowers, wheat, maize or cattle, sheep and goats, ... and only the occasional tractor or car. The area is superb for walking or cycling.
    Montpon-Menesterol
The nearest large town is Montpon-Menesterol (10km) where there is a colourful street market every Wednesday morning. Branches of major French banks can be found as well as a wide range of high street shops and an excellent supermarket with fuel filling station.
    Castillon-La-Bataille
Castillon-La-Bataille (16km) has a market every Monday morning and is the nearest of the towns situated along the bank of the river Dordogne. The town is famed for the battle against the English that ended the 100 years war. Every summer the town puts on a magnificent re-enactment of the battle involving hundreds of the local people, this spectacular is well worth a visit.
    St. Emilion
St. Emilion (22km) is an exceptionally beautiful medieval town with steep hilly cobbled streets running between ancient limestone buildings. It is famed for it's production of some of the finest red wines in France In the 8th century a hermit from Brittany, Emilion, settled in a cave that contained a natural spring. Over the next 500 years this cave was hollowed out and enlarged and is now the largest monolithic church (hollowed from a single rock) in France. Today this chapel overlooks the main square.
    Ste Foy La Grande
Ste Foy La Grande (30kms) has a market every Saturday and is lovely town to visit with the Dordogne river running through it.

The perfect setting for a relaxing holiday

Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We had a wonderful week at Beaulieu. Beautiful, tranquil surroundings. Wonderfully renovated accomodation, with lots of light, space and wonderful views with all the ameneties you need. A lot of time and passion has obviously been invested into the property, pool and gardens.
We were made to feel very welcome by Johanna and andy and they can provide good advice on the local area.
Lots to do in the local area (if you choose) or the accomodation is the perfect place to relax if you choose not to!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it.

      Peaceful haven

Left on 08/19/2012 for a stay in August 2012

My husband and I recently spent a lovely week in this tasteful barn conversion which was well equipped with everything you could need for a lovely restful holiday. The garden was vey pretty and the swimming pool was clean and well maintained. The owner, Johanna was friendly, helpful and informative on the area but also gave us the privacy to enjoy our holiday in our own way. We would have no hesitation in staying again if we ever find ourselves in this region of Fance in the future.

Stunningly beautiful, perfect for a completely ‘get away from it

Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Johanna, the owner was lovely and very welcoming. With her husband andy they have renovated both Gites and the adjoining family home to a very high standard.
Our gite was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The mezzanine bedroom gave it a bit of a wow factor. The pool was immaculate and the surroundings exquisite.
If you want a complete break from everything, you couldn't find a more idyllic location being surround for miles by farmland and vineyards with the odd gathering of houses thrown in for good measure. Chateau La Plante is well worth a visit!
The nearest village is at the top of the hill and again totally picturesque but very quiet with 2 tiny grocery shops, a small local bar and a restaurant.
Having a pool practically to ourselves while lying in beautiful surrounds was fab!

Left on 08/12/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Our third visit. Johanna and andy are friendly and helpful, yet unobtrusive.
The cottages have everything one needs, in a rural setting - apparently remote, yet within easy reach of lovely market towns.
The pool is immaculately kept and ideal to relax by.
      Will return again.

      Total relaxation

Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in July 2012

This was the third time we have stayed at the cottage, and we have already booked again for next year. This says it all - another lovely holiday in peaceful and beautiful surroundings.

The cottage is lovely, the pool is an absolute delight and the surrounding area is very picturesque. We had everything we needed for a lovely break.

Our friends booked the other cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed the private and tranquil nature of the accommodation.

Johanna and andy are excellent hosts - the cottages were prepared beautifully for our arrival, and we had everything we needed. Both Johanna and andy are on hand if needed, but maintain a low profile and do not intrude on our privacy.

There are many villages and small towns in the area, with markets on most days, however, the cottages are beautifully situated two or three km from the nearest village, in a very rural position.

A wonderful and relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. A country retreat and well looked after by the hosts. This gite is very well equipped with all the necessary items for your stay.

The advantage of a nice size pool is excellent.

I would thoroughly recommend this to friends and family.

Beautiful region, outstanding accommadation and genial hosts.

Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012

On arrival the gite was spotlessly clean and welcoming with beds made and all towels ready.Johanna and andy were ever ready to answer questions and give advice but were never intrusive.
The gite is well equipt, comfortable and spacious with an ample outside area.
It is very peaceful all you hear is birdsong and the wind in the trees. The pool is attractive clean and ininviting.
There are exellcent restaurants within a short car ride away
