Two Self-catering Holiday Cottages Each for up to Two People with Pool.
Wednesday - Wednesday changeover in peak months
Between Bergerac & St. Emilion in the Dordogne Region of South West France
Enjoy self-catering holidays in two 18th century natural stone cottages, tastefully restored by English owners Johanna and Andy Jaggs, each furnished to offer 21st century comfort and convenience.
Set in 7 acres of grounds, amid fields, vines and woodland, the cottages offer comfortable, tranquil and peaceful holiday accommodation to the most discerning of couples in a child-free environment
Stylish interiors with all... modern facilities and landscaped gardens with swimming pool, all surrounded by scenic countryside. Explore the country lanes, visit local historic sites, taste the superb wines, play tennis, golf and go canoeing on the River Dordogne.
Each cottage has a modern fitted kitchen fully equipped with split level oven and hob, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave and laundry facilities
The open plan galleried lounge and dining areas are tastefully furnished.
A staircase leads to the oak-beamed bedroom with ample wardrobe and drawer storage space, and doorway through to an en-suite shower room with wc and washbasin. Each cottage has a private patio outside the french window entranceway with table, chairs and gas BBQ.
The 10m x 5m swimming pool has roman steps at the shallow end (1.2m) with a gentle slope to the deep end, (1.6m). The pool has a paved surround with a large sun terrace. There are Tables, chairs, loungers, sun umbrellas & covered pergola for when the sun gets a little too hot.
We have two large natural ponds which are constantly fed from a spring alongside the entrance drive.
At Beaulieu we operate a Wednesday to Wednesday changeover which has proved very successful with our guests over previous seasons. Flights and ferries are almost always cheaper mid-week and the roads have a lighter volume of tourist traffic. This also gives our guests full weekends here so that they can participate in weekend events and activities which are popular throughout the tourist season.
Surrounded by interesting wildlife, you may often see large terrapins (which are native to the area) in the ponds, several species of frogs and visiting ducks and herons. A wide variety of uncommon birds can be seen in and around the gardens and meadows including kingfishers, hoopoes and hen harriers. We often see deer in the adjoining fields in the early morning.
The predominant views are over our meadows to the tower of the 14th century Chateau de Gurson.Read more

Additional Location Information
Lac De Gurson
Within easy walking distance (1km) is the Lac de Gurson. This lake complex was built about twenty years ago by all the local communes. It has two large lakes, one has a beach area with beach type cafes, bars and restaurants. There are areas for fishing and quiet paths which are excellent for walks, and also two very good tennis courts, and a boules area.
At the top of our 200 metre entrance drive is a country lane which leads in one direction to our local village of Villefranche-de-Lonchat which is less than 2km away. The village has a great deal of history associated with it dating back to the 12th century. There are two churches dating from the 14th century and a museum has been established in the Hotel de Ville to illustrate the local history. Villefranche has a pretty tree lined village square, two cafes, restaurant, boulangerie, butcher, post office, pharmacy and a general store.
Turning out of our entrance drive away from Villefranche leads through many hectares of woodland to the pretty hilltop village of St. Vivien. In all directions there are picturesque country lanes winding through forests, fields of sunflowers, wheat, maize or cattle, sheep and goats, ... and only the occasional tractor or car. The area is superb for walking or cycling.
The nearest large town is Montpon-Menesterol (10km) where there is a colourful street market every Wednesday morning. Branches of major French banks can be found as well as a wide range of high street shops and an excellent supermarket with fuel filling station.
Castillon-La-Bataille (16km) has a market every Monday morning and is the nearest of the towns situated along the bank of the river Dordogne. The town is famed for the battle against the English that ended the 100 years war. Every summer the town puts on a magnificent re-enactment of the battle involving hundreds of the local people, this spectacular is well worth a visit.
St. Emilion (22km) is an exceptionally beautiful medieval town with steep hilly cobbled streets running between ancient limestone buildings. It is famed for it's production of some of the finest red wines in France In the 8th century a hermit from Brittany, Emilion, settled in a cave that contained a natural spring. Over the next 500 years this cave was hollowed out and enlarged and is now the largest monolithic church (hollowed from a single rock) in France. Today this chapel overlooks the main square.
Ste Foy La Grande (30kms) has a market every Saturday and is lovely town to visit with the Dordogne river running through it.

We decided to take our first holiday ever in France and we were not disappointed in the choice of location and Beaulieu Cottages. We had no trouble finding the cottages and Johanna made us feel welcome. There was plenty of information in the cottage on what to do and Johanna gave us some great tips on where to go from vineyards to dining out. The cottage was comfortable and clean and we felt we were the only ones around and so had a good relaxing holiday. We would recommend Read more

Johanna and andy are warm and welcoming. Definately providing 'value added'. Their home and their cottages are clearly a labour of love.
Our cottage was spacious, comfortable, well equipped with lots of storage space.
The location was beyond my expectations in terms of the landscape and for two weeks I pretended that it was all mine.
Lasting memories include the vista, cycling, exploring, 'lazy sunny afternoons' by the pool - silence and snoozing! Read more
That is just what we order for our guests, complete relaxation. So glad you enjoyed your holiday. Hope to see you both again one day,

Tranquil and Beautiful

A beautiful remote property set in stunning grounds. Peaceful with fantastic views of the surrounding land. It is remote (5km to the local village) however I would recommend you get supplies and sit and enjoy the amazing peace and fabuous views. At night we saw shooting stars as the skies are so clear due to no light pollution. Johanna and andy constantly work on the grounds which are a credit to them - two ponds abnd great grounds! We found sitting under the huge willow tree by one of the Ponds cooling and relaxing - look carefully and you will see a kingfisher fishing! The local village(Villefranche de Lonchat) is a short drive (it would take a good 50 minutes to walk), that said it has a two good restaurants, one in a hotel so slightly more expensive. Montpeyroux is about 3.5km away and had a great Spanish restaurant which serves a fantastic paella!
Johanna and andy were great at giving some ideas re places to try. We wanted to do some canoeing and andy recommended Brantome which was about 60km away - well worth the trip as the river there is narrower and we did a 8km trip which was fantastic.
Fyi, Lake Gurson is undergoing some development so at present there are no facilities there (about a 20 min walk). However, the lake is lovely and worth a walk up to the Chateau behind then around the lake although avoid the muddy puddles!
The title says it all and Johanna and andy are wonderful hosts and it was a pleasure to meet and stay in their property. Read more
Dear Ellie thank you vey much for your review. The lake is now open and looking great, white sand and new restaurant and this is just phase 1of the refurbishment!! Villefranche is only 2.5 kms from Beaulieu and I can walk it in about 35 minutes, I wouldn't want guest to think we are so remote.
Hope to see you both again, Johanna & Andy x

We had a wonderful week at Beaulieu. Beautiful, tranquil surroundings. Wonderfully renovated accomodation, with lots of light, space and wonderful views with all the ameneties you need. A lot of time and passion has obviously been invested into the property, pool and gardens.

Johanna, the owner was lovely and very welcoming. With her husband andy they have renovated both Gites and the adjoining family home to a very high standard.
Our gite was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The mezzanine bedroom gave it a bit of a wow factor. The pool was immaculate and the surroundings exquisite.
If you want a complete break from everything, you couldn't find a more idyllic location being surround for miles by farmland and vineyards with the odd gathering of houses thrown in for good measure. Chateau La Plante is well worth a visit!
The nearest village is at the top of the hill and again totally picturesque but very quiet with 2 tiny grocery shops, a small local bar and a restaurant.
Having a pool practically to ourselves while lying in beautiful surrounds was fab! Read more

Our third visit. Johanna and andy are friendly and helpful, yet unobtrusive.
The cottages have everything one needs, in a rural setting - apparently remote, yet within easy reach of lovely market towns.
The pool is immaculately kept and ideal to relax by.
Will return again.

This was the third time we have stayed at the cottage, and we have already booked again for next year. This says it all - another lovely holiday in peaceful and beautiful surroundings.
The cottage is lovely, the pool is an absolute delight and the surrounding area is very picturesque. We had everything we needed for a lovely break.
Our friends booked the other cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed the private and tranquil nature of the accommodation.
Johanna and andy are excellent hosts - the cottages were prepared beautifully for our arrival, and we had everything we needed. Both Johanna and andy are on hand if needed, but maintain a low profile and do not intrude on our privacy.
There are many villages and small towns in the area, with markets on most days, however, the cottages are beautifully situated two or three km from the nearest village, in a very rural position. Read more
