      Gorgeous rental, convenient too

Left on 04/12/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Le Selkirk was even more beautiful than the photos! My husband, our two teen daughters and I loved this condo! The master bedroom is the size of our formal living room at home and I could have happily stayed there indefinitely! The place is beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable with everything you could possibly need, conveniently located a few blocks from the metro and the Montreal Fine arts Museum (free, huge and really worthwhile -- even our teens enjoyed it & we ran out of energy before we had seen it all!), as well as galleries and some restaurants. Having a parking space (which is a bit tight but we fit our SUV) was great as we were able to drive up Mount Royal to take in the views which we had not done on previous trips. We also walked to atwater Market (by walking down nearby Sherbrooke to atwater but it is a distance of some 15 blocks or so). We were also pleased with the Quebecois specialties left for us -- a fresh baguette, several cheeses, sausage, bagels, several bottles of soda pop, crackers, chocolate, fruit and more! It was so nice to arrive and have a snack waiting instead of needing to head out immediately! As for snacks and coffee once settled: Second Cup, Tim Houton and Starbucks are within a few blocks. Note: the condo has a lot of steps which could be a problem for some people.

      We picked the perfect place!

Left on 07/02/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I just happened to come upon Le Selkirk amidst the hundreds of rentals available in Montreal, so the fact that I chose this place was truly just a stroke of good luck. My husband and I (60-ish empty nesters) thought it would be a great idea to take our three 30-somethng sons on what would probably be a last family outing before there were spouses and grandkids involved. And since we love Montreal and go there often, we thought we'd introduce our sons to that city with a week's vacation.

Le Selkirk looks exactly like the photos. It is located in the top two floors of a 100-year-old townhome in the heart of the Museum district. The owner's office is on the first floor, with a separate entrance. While the exterior is charming and old, the interior is totally renovated and very modern, yet has a definite homey feel. As soon as we all walked in, we felt as if we were home and settled in easily.

The living room is large and has a flat-screen TV and comfy sofa and chairs. The dining room is large enough to have a dinner party, although we used the table to play board games and use our laptops. The kitchen has plenty of accessories and all the necessary appliances (full-sized stove and oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dishwasher, garbage disposal) to cook any type of meal, and the fridge/freezer is standard-sized, not apartment-sized. Off the kitchen is a laundry room with a full-sized washer and dryer. Detergent and fabric softener were provided. There is also a modern half-bath on this floor.

On the third floor, there is a huge master suite with two very large closets, a flat-screen TV, an iPod dock, chaise longue and table and chairs. The king-sized bed is extremely comfortable, with high-end bedding. Attached is a small but very well-appointed bathroom with glass-doored shower. The second bedroom has two twin beds and a large closet. My third son slept in the study alcove, on a sofa bed that he said was very comfortable. Off this alcove, there is a nice-sized roof deck with a barbecue grill, table and chairs. Unfortunately, the weather was rainy the entire time we were there, so we didn't get to use it. But it seems like it would be a great place for a late-night drink and some conversation. There is a second bath on this floor, with a jacuzzi tub.

We were given one parking spot right by the back entrance, in the shade.

The townhome is about a block and a half from the Guy-Concordia Metro station and is super-convenient for getting around the entire city. Museums and shops are right down the street, and there are plenty of restaurants and take-out places nearby as well. There are two convenience stores right across the street from the townhouse. The neighborhood is a mix of residential and commercial and is not noisy.

The owners of the townhouse greeted us when we arrived and showed us how to use the thermostat and other necessities. They also left us a large basket of Quebecois goodies on the kitchen table --- cheeses, candies, Montreal bagels, sparkling water, etc. --- which was a very welcoming touch. The owners are available if there is an emergency, but they were not intrusive.

Negatives: The parking lot where we were to park our second car was closed until September, although the owners did kindly allow us to park the car at the property when no other parking was available nearby. The home has a lot of stairs, so it is not recommended for those who can't handle constantly going up and down the stairs. The layout (i.e. all those stairs) might be somewhat unsafe for young children, although the railings are sturdy and enclosed. The railing on the roof deck is high and I don't think it would present a problem with children up there.

I don't know when we will ever go back to Montreal with three others in tow, but if we did, this would be the place we'd stay. I highly recommend Le Selkirk and know you will love it there, too.

      lovely flat in montreal

Left on 04/25/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Myself and two friends who came over from England, had a very enjoyable experience staying at Le Selkirk. It was immaculate, welcoming, well situated and safe. The subway is just down the street and it is within walking distance of major shopping, restaurants, etc.
Sam was very helpful in quickly sorting out some issues with Wi Fi. They provided a welcome basket of food-it really did feel like a home to us. There was more than enough space to give each of us privacy. Thank-you for a lovely stay. I will be back with my own family.

      Everything one could want

Left on 01/09/2012 for a stay in December 2011

We enjoyed our stay at Le Selkirk over Christmas 2011. The apartment is well situated and close to shops and transport.

Inside it is well appointed and comfortable. The kitchen was excellent and we were able to cook a big Christmas dinner with ease. The lovely dining room made our family gathering a great occasion and the living room was better than the photos suggest.

Most importantly were the small touches like the wlecome basket and the internet connection and helpful instructions. Our host made a number of suggestions of places to go and to shop but was not intrusive in any way.

We really enjoyed our stay at Le Selkirk
