      Peaceful and Perfect!

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful long weekend in this cottage. The grounds are beautiful, the hammock is perfect for naps, and the pond was a refreshing place to swim. We were even able to enjoy some veggies from the garden, and had romantic dinners on the front porch of the cottage every night. We definitely would like to come back!
Also, if you can get an acupuncture session from Pamela, I highly recommend it. Very relaxing!

      Wonderful in all Respects

Left on 06/28/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Three cheers for Pamela and Kevin, who provided us a three night, four day vacation that was better than expected. The cabin is immaculate, comfortable, private, and has everything one needs in the kitchen, linen, bedding departments.

      We absolutely recommend this gem!

      Adorable Cottage

Left on 11/21/2011 for a stay in November 2011

My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice weekend away from the city. The Guest Cottage was so comfortable and perfect for a romantic getaway! The fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere and I loved reading in the loft which overlooks the living room.

The property is gorgeous. We spent some time relaxing in the hot tub at night and you can hear the stream running across the street and the stars were so bright.

The cottage is only about 15 minutes from Montpelier, it's great for a day trip. Lot's of cute shops, restaurants and some hiking.

The owners are very accomodating and friendly...We felt very welcome and would definitely visit again.

Private and Romantic - ok for kids but not toddler-safe

Left on 07/19/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We stayed in the cabin for a family event during Easter weekend. The cottage is very cozy, well-equipped and private. It is on the same property as the owners' home, but is separated by a garage/outbuilding so it feels very private. The home was very clean and the owners were very gracious. We were greeted and shown around by the owners when we arrived. There is a lot of land around the cottage to explore including a stream, a forest, and gardens. My older son (5) enjoyed playing games in the loft, and watching movies on the DVD player, and we had a nice time spending quality time together as a family. The loft looks over the living/kitchen area, and can also see into the bedroom which does not have a door so there is no real privacy between rooms.

We had a couple issues during our stay: the home is heated by a gas fired stove which is very romantic but dangerous for toddlers, so we were constantly guarding our youngest from touching the hot stove. The other issue was the water in the shower did not get hot, it only got warm but would keep switching to cold and warm again. I was not satisfied with how the owners handled it (the water felt warm on his arm so it is fine, it just doesn't get hot), as it was a particularly cold april weekend and the gas stove is not close to the bathroom. I recognize that rentals come with certain draw-backs, such as not having immediate repairs, but shivering in the shower in no fun.

There was one other minor issue, there is a slight rise in the floor between the bedroom and the rest of the cabin, which you have to cross through to access the bathroom. My entire family tripped over this every time until about the third day when we finally became accustomed to it. My toddler especially took a few hard spills.

I would say the cottage is ideal for couples or a single person seeking a retreat and the owners were generally very responsive which is why I would recommend it to others. I wouldn't recommend it for families with small children, or families looking for privacy within the home.

      Owner

Hello, This is the first I have ever read our reviews and I wanted to clarify about the shower. The shower is an on-demand shower; very green and energy efficient. Because of this the shower cannot be used when the water at the kitchen sink is being used or there will not be either enough hot water nor enough pressure. Secondly, in June we had the water heater replaced by the manufacturer, Bosch, and now the shower works better than ever with hot enough water! Over the years, we have had several families with toddlers stay and this is the first time I have heard of
a problem with the slight elevation btw floors!! The cabin was custom designed as an open floor plan with lots of overhead space and design detail which is fabulous to look at. This type of design does not allow for closed off bedrooms but there is a door on the bathroom!

      delightful get-away

Left on 04/23/2010 for a stay in March 2010

This is a lovely cottage with everything one needs for a comfortable stay .It is situated on a hillside with the sounds of a rushing brook .You cross 3 covered bridges to arrive at the property which greets one with apple trees, raised bed gardens,a pond,a hot tub and delightful stone and metal sculptures at various spots on the 5 acre property. The cottage itself has a porch, grill, a picnic table just outside the door ...inside a cozy warm gas fireplace to keep one warm...(I was also here in September/October time and the hills of autumn colored trees is wonderful) One can take walks, drive a short distance to explore the quaint town of Montpelier,or relax in a very welcoming atmosphere.I used it to get-away and felt I could have stayed longer..the owners are so warm and welcoming you won't want to leave !

A serene experience like no other

Left on 04/17/2010 for a stay in June 2008

We travel frequently and have stayed in a wide variety of hotels and inns. While most of them have been satisfactory and some have been exceptional, only a few of them have been memorable. The Vermont Guest Cottage is one of our most memorable, and after two extended stays here, we would never stay anywhere else in the area. There is just something special about this place.

The owners are welcoming, knowledgeable hosts who have created a beautifully detailed space that provides everything you need to stay connected to the outside world while still being able to get away from it all.

The main reason to stay here is that you will find no better place to start or end your day. In season the gardens are amazing and you can find numerous places to sit and enjoy them. In the morning the only sounds you will hear are birds and the brook below. At night you are just far enough from town that you can view an abundance of stars. The winters are equally lovely, and a propane stove keeps the cottage warm and cozy.

The location of the cottage makes day trips easy, and after a day of exploring you can relax in the hot tub or try something a bit more unusual and play a round of bucket golf using maple sap buckets.

This is a unique spot where it is easy to unwind and recharge, and where the longer you stay, the more you will want to return.

      Charming/restful/breathtaking

Left on 04/13/2010 for a stay in April 2010

After crossing 3 charming covered bridges with rushing, waterfall brooks keeping them company, an easy drive to this guest cottage is delightful. The owners, Mela and Kevin, have done an outstanding job with this immaculate, cozy, and comfortable guest cottage. The view from the porch is green and mountains. The nightime quiet is deafening. I loved having a remote control to adjust the temperature of the gas fireplace...

Mela is an accupuncturist who gave me 2 treatments during my visit and I was pain free for the first time in almost 20 years - I am now a true believer. She has a treatment room in the main house.

This is centrally located and a quick drive to Stowe for skiing, Montpelier for sight seeing, and also a tour of Ben and Jerry's Ice cream where you end your tour with generous free samples of the flavor of the day.

I would encourage anyone who needs to relax, and re-priortize their lives to call and make a reservation to what I dubbed "the ponderosa". Enjoy!!!

Great property with all the comfortable amenities

Left on 04/13/2010 for a stay in March 2010

My family stayed here for 3 nights in early March and had a great time. The cottage was the perfect size for a family of 4 and Moretown is close to skiing, hiking and many other VT activities (Ben & Jerry's, Montpelier, etc.) It is still winter in VT in March but the cottage has its own, remote controlled gas powered wood stove, so we were plenty warm. There is also a tankless water heater, so we were never concerned about running out. There is a full kitchen, which is also helpful when you travel with children. Some other amenities include a flat screen TV, satellite dish, books, a loft area for kids to sleep if they wish, and it is set off from the main property for complete privacy. The cottage is set on a beautiful property of 5 acres with a pond. In the mornings all I could hear was a woodpecker and the nearby stream. Be warned however, if you go in the near spring or spring, bring your wellies because it is mud season in VT! I would definitely return.
