Picture yourself sitting in the middle of a beautiful meadow, surrounded by cool forest. You are sipping lemonade and your children are catching crickets and picking wild blackberries.

You and your honey stand halfway up Tiny Mountain, surrounded by cool, green forest. You hear the wind and the birds and have not seen anyone else all day. You gaze over the Green Mountains under a bright, blue sky.

You can experience both of these scenarios, and more, if you come stay at Ripley Hill Cabin at Forest Echo.

Forest Echo Farm in Mt. Holly, Vermont, offers an escape to the wilderness within a comfortable, rustic setting. Fores...t Echo Farm was a working farm at the turn of the century. Today, our three rental cabins provide you with an inexpensive vacation spot amidst 400 acres of Vermont forest and meadows.

A Quiet Retreat

Forest Echo Farm is dedicated to the simple life. No power lines cross our property, no electricity reaches our cabins. We have no blaring televisions or video games to distract us from the sound of the wind in the leaves, no telephones or internet to call us back to the whirl of modern life. But that does not mean we are without any of the comforts of civilization.

Each cabin has hot and cold running water, a gas stove for cooking, gas lights and even a propane-powered refrigerator. The cabins are rustic, but clean and airy. The luxuries at Forest Echo Farm are not inside the cabins; they are found in the light that fills the forest in late afternoon, the silence of an evening canoe ride and the moonlit sparkle of dewdrops at midnight. Forest Echo Farm includes an extensive shore to a 26 acre protected pond, numerous trails, and half a mountain top. We also get cell phone reception, so you can still make dinner reservations.

Ripley Hill Cabin

Ripley Hill Cabin is the largest cabin.. Ripley Hill is located on a hill overlooking the Farm Pond, one of two swimming spots. The cabin has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and another with a double bed and a twin bed. The screened-in porch has an additional queen-sized bed and an old-fashioned swing, There is also a double-sized sofabed in the main room. Ripley Hill features a wood stove and a field-stone fireplace to warm a chilly evening.

The kitchen has a gas-powered refrigerator and stove as well as a sink. Hot and cold running water is available inside the cabin. Ripley Hill Cabin is equipped with a indoor bathroom with a sink, toilet, tub and shower. There is also a (very clean) outhouse, for a fun, rustic experience.

Ripley Hill Cabin is a 5 minute walk from our playground and a 20 minute walk to a pristine lake where guests swim and canoe. Trails cross the property and our resident caretakers will be happy to provide you with friendly help during your stay (and a tour of their large vegetable garden!)Read more

Activities at Forest Echo Farm

During your stay at Forest Echo, enjoy walking and hiking, bird-watching, canoeing, swimming, or just relaxing. There are several hiking and walking trails right on the property. Tiny Pond offers a secluded spot for swimming and canoeing; we even have a resident heron. Tiny Mountain and Tiny Pond are a short hike from all cabins.

Nearby Activities

Shopping and Dining: Ripley Hill Cabin is only 6 miles from the closest restaurant, Harry’s Café which is just at the bottom of the road. The nearest town, Ludlow, and the surrounding area is chock full of restaurants, antique stores, country stores, bakeries, farm stands, general shopping and scenic drives. The Crowley Cheese shop and factory are nearby and worth a visit.Shaw's supermarket is located in Ludlow, 11 miles from Forest Echo.

Hiking and Biking: The Appalachian and Long Trails are within a 45-minute drive from Forest Echo. There are many local bike/ski shops in Ludlow with bike rentals and other summer activities.
