What Past Guests Are Saying
Lovely and spacious near Volcano National Park
My two adult sons and I rented this apartment for two night s because of its proximity to Volcano National Park. We were very happy with the place. It was spacious, quiet, and cool. The owners live downstairs, and there are nearby neighbors, but it is still quite private. We enjoyed coffee and breakfast on the huge lanai in the morning. The coqui frogs sang us to sleep at night. (They weren't as loud as I've heard about. A lot of people complain about them but I thought they were kinda nice.)
The interior of the apartment was lovely and comfortable. Good beds, big living and dining area, adequate kitchen (though it does need updating and could use more cooking utensils and wine glasses).
All in all it was a nice place to stay and definitely worth it for the price. We're planning to return.

Clean, spacious 2 bedroom apt near the volcano.
We stayed 1 night (8-17-13) to see the volcano. We were visiting the Big Island from N Idaho and staying in Waikoloa, but we wanted to stay 2 days near the volcano so we stayed at Mtn Breeze (located east of the Park), about 30 min drive to Volcanoes National Park. The unit is on the second floor of a 2 story duplex. The owners, Thomas & Angela, live downstairs, and are very friendly and a wealth of information about the local area. The apt is a completely separate unit with its own private entrance. It is like you are staying at a friend's island home, but nicer. Two bedrooms (1 Q bed, 2 D bed), 1 bath, full kitchen (you would be able to cook), coffee, flat screen TV, hardwood floors. There is a large lanai (porch) and gas barbecue on the 2nd floor. They use rainwater which is so soft, compared with the hard water elsewhere on the island. If you head down the main road in the opposite direction (heading toward Hilo), there are small restaurants, drug store, grocery, gas, McDonald's about 20-30 minutes drive. The only reason I gave them 4 stars for service was because we could not get onto the cable WiFi. Thomas didn't have the correct log in or password or perhaps there was some other techinical difficulty. There is no Verizon cell phone or 3G service at the property. But you do get good service once you are on the main road to the Volcano. This would be a great place to stay if you wanted to get away from the city and resort areas and explore the Volcano, especially at night when you can see the glow from Halemaumau crater at the Jagger Museum. There are beautiful flowers and fruit trees on the property. Great for small family or 4 adults. We had 5 in our group, myself, husband, son (11), daughter (9), Grandma. Kids slept on one Dbed, Grandma on the other. We slept on the Qbed. It cooled down nicely at night (upper 50's, low 60's, perfect sleeping weather) despite daytime temperatures in the mid-80's.
