Portland, OregonBest gateway near Mt. Hood!
Left on 02/25/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This was a truly incredible place to stay! My husband and I wanted a romantic weekend away from Portland. He choose Moondance Cabin for it's privacy, the rushing river in the 'backyard', the secluded hot tub, and the proximity to Mt. Hood. It couldn't have been a more perfect choice.
The cabin itself is warm, cozy, and well kept. Comfy couches, soft beds, and a fully stocked kitchen await your arrival. However, it still retains a slightly rustic feel, appropriate for the mountain setting. One of my favorite parts was listening to the river rush by as we fell asleep. There is a fireplace in the main sitting area which was pleasant (although the wood they provided was too green to really get going). There's a great stereo system for planning music and a TV if you want to kick back and watch a movie. It was the best place to relax in the middle of a crazy time in our lives.
We spent two nights there and felt it was worth every penny. We ate at a couple of the nearby restaurants in Welches and Government Camp and also made fondue for dinner one night. We also drove a short distance (3mi?) and took a 2hr walk/hike with fabulous views of Mt. Hood. We spent our fair bit of time in the hot tub as well which was easy to use, set at the perfect temperature, private, and overlooking the river.
I had originally thought we might go skiing or snowshoeing but once we settled in we didn't want to leave. We played board games, drank wine, and just got to take it easy.
I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend gateway. It would also be great for a group of friends, a bachelor/bachelorette party, or a solo night of peace!

My new wife and I had a wonderful weekend getaway at the Moondance cabin. We arrived late on a Friday night and the lockbox at the main office had everything we needed, including easy directions to the property. They left a couple of lights on for us knowing we we're arriving late and the cabin was spotless. When we locked ourselves out of the cabin while hot-tubbing (hilarious in hindsight, but not at the time!)we got a ride into town and called the after hours number. The staff member who answered personally drove up and unlocked the cabin for us without any complaint... service way above and beyond! We are looking forward to bringing the kids next time when there's snow on the ground!

I was very happy to arrive at the Moondance cabin for our little getaway. The cabin was cozy, warm and very homelike in it's appointments. Everything was well maintained and clean. I would only change the couch as the material is a bit scratchy and worn other then that I found the cabin to be exactly as I had hoped for.
Even though, it was just of a main road it is very secluded feeling and I did not notice any sounds coming from the road. -

Signing in for the key was fast and easy and everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The cabin is just down the road form the check-in building and is secluded and cozy. We spent a lovely weekend eating on the spacious outdoor deck, relaxing in the hot tub, and enjoying the time away from home.

Moondance cabin is in an awesome location and we had a great time there for 10 days this past summer. It was so peaceful and we enjoyed the privacy of the deck right on Clear Creek. We also really enjoyed the nice, clean and very private hot tub.
Unfortunately, The beds (we tried both) were old, soft and uncomfortable to the point where both my wife and I had back aches the whole time we were there. We finally resorted to buying a foam "waffle" pad for our bed and that helped some but definitely didn't solve the issue. We hope the owners will spend the money to update the beds because the cabin and location just couldn't be better.

Loved staying at Moondance Cabin! It was nestled in the woods for a quiet retreat, yet close enough to civilization to grab a pizza or rent a movie. Fell asleep each night listening to the babbling brook just behind the cabin. Loved the private hot tub and the huge deck! Cozy interior with all the comforts of home. Would love to stay there again!

Wonderful location on Clear Creek - convenient to 26, yet no neighbors in site. Great layout - large common area, beautiful outdoor deck reaching right to the water. Didn't get a chance to try out the hot tub, but there's always the next stay. And there will be a next stay. Great management. We'll be back.

Portland, ORMoondance. So much potential.
Left on 01/07/2011 for a stay in January 2011
The Moondance Cabin was unfortunately, a disappoint for us. The number one reason was the Hot Tub was broken. We specifically sought out a cabin with a Hot Tub and probably paid $100 extra a night to have one. Instead we got a "Cool Tub" that stayed at 75 degrees throughout our stay. The office hours on the day we arrived were from 4-6 (holiday hours). By the time we arrived at the place the office was already closed so we left a message that night. In the morning we received a phone call at approximately 11:00 am. We were instructed to try flipping the hot tub breaker. We had already tried this without any success, but we did it again. We waited two hours (again as instructed) and were so excited to feel the water. Still it was cold. The maintenance guy arrived around 4:00 and flipped the Hot Tub reset button and to make a long story short the Hot Tub never worked. We must have felt the water 15 times in anticipation of enjoying the sound of the beautiful creek and the snow covered forest. Instead we were forced to stay inside the cabin, hearing an occasional thrash of the creek outside. The Hot Tub would have given the place five stars, instead we got a lousy $50 (equivalent to the Hot Tub maintenance fee) back for all three days. It really was the service and the lack of understanding the severity of the situation that I want to highlight.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Moondance Cabin. It was our best and most relaxing vacation yet. The staff in the vacation rental office were very helpful and nice. We love the cabin's location alongside the river. The only issues we had was that the shower nozzles were very low and we had to crouch down to get our heads under the nozzles and the entertainment system (tv and dvd player) were very outdated. Overall we loved our stay and will come again in the future.

Not a bad rental, but pretty pricey. The beds were so soft and squeaky and were not comfortable. There was a weird smell coming from one of the rooms, smelled sort of like raw sewage on the third night. The hot tub was fun and well taken care of. the big fat old TV could use an upgrade and the cooking utensils were flimsy. The teflon pans were flaking. The closeness to the river in the back was very nice.

It was just like what I picture a log cabin in the woods should look like and the creek was just perfect. There was some kind of problem with the downspout outside of the master bedroom and it made loud dripping noises that kept my husband up at night. That might need to be looked at. The t.v. and dvd player was making sounds like it wasn't going to last much longer.

We loved it!! The cabin made our trip a true vacation, I can't believe that we even considered staying in a hotel. The cabin is conveniently located yet provides peaceful privacy. To sit on the deck or in the hot tub and just take in the view was so relaxing, not to mention that we could hear the river from anywhere in the cabin. The kitchen supplied us with all of our needs, the cabin was clean and cozy. If I had to give a negative, the only thing I can think of is that the outdoor light on the house by the hot tub didn't work or we never found the right switch for it (not much of a negative is it?) We had friends from Portland join us for one night and they were thrilled with their one night get-a-way. They were also very suprised when I told them the cost of our stay, much less than they thought it would be. Thanks to the staff who was very accomodating and kind from the first time I talked to them on the phone until we checked out. I have already recommended this to friends and hope to return to Moondance myself. I just hope it isn't another 16 years before I return to Mt. Hood!!

The hot tub was not working properly and the responce from the managment was slow. As it turned out the broken hot tub had been an on going issue for some time. Tacoma, WASearching for snow in all the wrong places...
Left on 03/03/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We were looking for a vacation spot near Mt. Hood, but away from the hotel/motel crowd. This place fits that description to the letter. The moondance cabin is close enough to Welches that you can pick up that bottle of wine you forgot (the grocery store has a great selection of everything) but far enough off of the beaten path that you won't hear any traffic at night. In fact, cracking the window allowed us to hear the creek and only the creek throughout the night. The cabin was comfortably furnished and offered great views of the back woods without feeling like you were looking into your neighbor's yard. The hot tub wasn't working for our first night but was fixed by noon the following day. It provided a great place to relax in seclusion.
Overall, this rental is a hit. I'm sure we'll be returning soon. -

We were surprised by the lack of towels for our stay and were glad there were only two of us. The coffee maker needs to be replaced, the toaster toasts, but leaves the bread cold, and the fireplace instructions were wrong. Those things didn't ruin our stay, but we will ask if the coffee maker and toaster have been replaced before we return. The surroundings were beautiful, and since it rained so much - it was November - we were very glad the hot tub was covered. We really appreciated the phone's free long distance, since our Verizon phones had no service there. The gas grill was nice, and the deck would be great to use when the weather was better. We had a wonderful time.

We are sorry to hear that you did not have enough towels. We provide 2 bath towels, a hand towel, a wash cloth and a hot tub towel for each guest. We do not offer daily housekeeping services unless you request them (additional fee), but the home does have a washer and dryer. If you did not have that level of bath linens upon arrival, we would have been happy to deliver more. We will take a look at the toaster, coffee maker and fireplace instructions. We apologize for not noticing the brown roof and partial view of the deck of the cabin through the evergreen trees downstream and across the stream about 100 yards. Those features of the home are barely noticeable, so none of us had seen them until you brought it to our attention. Unfortunately, we cannot control the neighbors mowing their lawn. Hopefully, they were not mowing for very long. We offer specific specials for AAA, AARP & military and occassionally we offer specials on specific homes or during our queit season. Our only complaint was several carpenter ants, the water was gross to drink, but that could be just how the water tastes on Mt Hood. And the showers are very small and the heads are very low on the wall, so you have to duck to rinse your hair. Even my wife at 5'4". Other wise it was great! Warm, comfortable, great scenery and atmosphere. Loved the Hot tub! It felt great! We would love to stay there again some time.
Response from Mt. Hood Vacation Rentals - 05/28/2009

The carpenter ants come out every spring for about 2 weeks. The time frame is different every due to weather. They have moved on already. The water at Moondance Cabin is safe, it just has lots of minerals in it which gives it that flavor.

Left on 04/13/2009 for a stay in April 2009
The Moondance is the perfect spot for a few days of rest and relaxation. The hot tub was soothing. The creek was roaring which was a very soothing sound. The cabin had everything that we needed and was more than we expected. We would come back again!

Silverdale, WACozy Cabin Close to Many Recreation Opportunities
Left on 02/24/2009 for a stay in February 2009
The Moondance Cabin was a cozy cabin that felt warm and inviting after a long day skiing at one of the ski areas around Mt. Hood. It was secluded enough to have privacy, but also close to many recreation opportunities and amenities. We had a great time and would love to come back.

We had a tough start - things out like matches and firestarters, didn't discover (matches) until office was closed so we bought our own. After that things went well and Clay was really great.

Portland, ORA very Pleasant Stay
Left on 11/16/2008 for a stay in October 2008
The only complaint I have of the place was that it was a little bit lacking in helpful amenities. It would have been nice if there had been a blow dryer, binoculars, more than on bar of soap in the bathroom (so I didn't have to keep moving it from shower to sink), band-aids. The kitchen was stocked nicely, but the bathroom seemed to need some extras. But, really that is little to complain about. It is a very comfortable and clean cabin.

My wife and I had a perfect visit. The cabin was immaculately clean, cozy, and very well provisioned. But what we loved most was the setting: secluded, private, wholly surrounded by trees, with the creek running right past the deck and the hot tub. Our stay was brief, but couldn't have pleased us more. Also, our thanks to Cecilia at the property management office, who was professional, helpful, and charming. We would love to return someday, and have already recommended Cascade Property, and particularly Moondance Cabin, to our friends.

Don't be cheap on the easy stuff (e.g., laundry detergent, fire wood).
Response from Mt. Hood Vacation Rentals - 09/29/2008

We leave a starter supply of laundry detergent and firewood in the home for our guests. There are plenty of other supplies provided in the home including paper napkins, paper towels, foil, plastic wrap, dishwasher detergent and liquid dish soap, toilet paper & facial tissue. We leave enough firewood for a 2-3 hour fire each evening of your visit; you may purchase more firewood if you would like more fires. We do not ask you to wash any of the linens, so the supply of laundry detergent left is complimentary in case you wish to launder personal items. Betsy

Portland, ORMoondance Cabin on Clear Creek - Wonderful stay
Left on 08/29/2008 for a stay in August 2008
A great getaway for 4 days, perfectly situated a few steps from Clear Creek. Listening to the creek is so relaxing on the huge deck, or from the adjacent hot tub. (Wish there was fishing in the creek, though). Please replace the grill or at least the grill parts. It is not usable. I cooked some corn for about 15 minutes at the highest temperature, and could still pick it up with my bare hands...
Water pressure was a little lacking, and the 5' 4" shower head made you bend over to wash your hair.
Loved the log cabin - this was a perfect little 2 bed 2 bath rental with a big dining room table and a nice sized kitchen. Would love to come back and stay again in the winter.Response from Mt. Hood Vacation Rentals - 09/12/2008

Thank you for your comments regarding the BBQ. We will look into the parts and replace or repair as needed. Unfortunately, at the end of summer, some of the homes in the Mt Hood area have wells with low water tables. We have not heard this comment about Moondance Cabin before, so we will look into it. Especially this year, when we had so much snow so late, we would not expect this to come up.

Very nice to have a kitchen and grill, we enjoy cooking our own food and the deck was a great place to do projects and eat with family. We enjoyed our stay, loved the guest diary and reading other guests comments.

we wanted to clean up before we left but the vaccuum does not function!
Also...the dead ants (they crawled into the cabin to die, for there were new ones each day) were a little disconcerting.
Overall it was a pleasing experience!Response from Mt. Hood Vacation Rentals - 09/13/2008

We have an invasion of the carpenter ants every spring when the temps warm up. It usually occurs around Memorial Day, but this year it was like winter into mid-June, so the ants arrived at the end of June. Even though we spray for them, it takes a couple of weeks for all of them to die. They are annoying, but harmless to people.

This is the third time we've rented from Cascade Property Management, and while each experience has been great, this is our favorite cabin. It rained the entire time we were there, but it didn't matter! The grounds are green and beautiful, the deck on the creek amazing, the cabin comfortable and well-stocked, and the ambience romantic and refreshing. We will be back!

We generally rent properties that are secluded. On this particular trip we rented a secluded home that had a sewer problem so we were moved to Moondance Cabin, which was on a busy road, LoLo Pass.

Great Cabin, I would recommend it to anyone. It is in a great location close to Welches, but far enough away that you cannot hear the road. The river is amazing to listen to at night. In terms of night life I would recommend Skyway. Happy seasons.
