When you start off your trip finding out the rental is no where near where you were told it would be it can't help but taint your stay. The worst thing about Mt. Hood Vacation Rentals is that they don't disclose the property address until you arrive. You are forced to trust that the person you are dealing with is listening and taking into account what you are asking for. In my case she repeated my needs back to me and then lied to get me into the completely opposite property. Buyer beware. The house was fine if you don't mind wasting $750 for two nights NOT being in the wilderness. The house is right off Highway 26 and 3 miles from town. It was Not private, the old geezers watching us in the hottub across the creek, greasy counters, 20 sticks of wood does not a fire make. Had I known where this house was I never would've paid so much for it. Complete rip off from what I was promised. Mt. Hood Rentals owes my party $300 because that is what would've been fair for a weekend at this place that was not even close to what I was promised. We usually use but from now on any properties with a property manager will be avoided.

We are so sorry to hear that there was a misunderstanding about the location of the rental home. I remember speaking with you and you expressed that you thought this cabin was at White River where you were planning to participate in the Tubbs Romp To Stomp Out Breast Cancer Snowshoe event. White River is in the middle of the national forest and there are no buildings there, so we just are not sure how that was misunderstood. There are no rental homes in the wilderness (not permitted). There are forest service cabins in the Rhododendron and Government Camp area, but they are not permitted to be rented out, so you will always be in a legal residential area when you rent at Mt Hood. I can assure you that we are always very careful to correctly represent our rental homes in all manners. We do provide a starter supply of firewood, which is 10 pieces per night. Several local stores sell firewood or you can opt to purchase more from us. We do not give out addresses to the rental homes before arrival because we have had too many problems with guests driving up to the mountain and snooping around the home when other people are enjoying the home. Imagine how you would have felt if you were at the home for the weekend and you saw someone walking around in the yard or peeking in the windows? This home is private, but not completely secluded. On our website, it is stated that this home is "Semi-Secluded, may see 1 or 2 other homes, but not too close".

I went to Salmon River Retreat with a couple girlfriends and had a GREAT time. Unfortunately, afterwards, I got a VERY RUDE voicemail from the staff accusing us of having 5 extra people with us and they automatically charged my credit card without talking to me. It was a huge downer on a great stay. Speaking of HUGE DOWNERS, two of us contact disgusting bacterial infections from the hot tub. These were VERY UNPLEASANT and I don't ever want to go in another rental house's hot tub again. Use another company for your stay and save yourself the hassle.

As we sat on the deck enjoying breakfast to the accompaniment of Nature's music of river water rushing past boulders and wind playing through the pine needles and birdsong, we gazed up at the towering trees into the clear blue sky and sighed with relaxation and respite. We so much enjoyed our stay; we hated to tear ourselves away. We have talked about coming back for anniversaries every year, as this will always be a special vacation house for us. It was a romantic paradise.

The absolute best part of the last minute (I mean last minute, we rented it the day we stayed in it!) vacation was the helpfulness of the ladies who work the front desk at your office. They turned what could have been a disastrous anniversary vacation into a most memorable time away. The house was beautiful, very well maintained and stocked. We spent most of our vacation there instead of out and about. Thanks!

Left on 12/30/2009 for a stay in December 2009
We had been talking about a cabin in the woods for Christmas for years. When Glenn surprised me in April with a weekend at the Salmon River Retreat, I knew it was the place. When we went to the office to return the keys, I rented the Retreat on the spot!
Glenn was delighted with the choice as he knows Mt Hood Rentals well. He does a lot of the pest control with his company Oregon Insect and Rodent Control. We offered this retreat to our two grown daughters and their husbands as our Christmas gift and it was fabulous!
I let Glenn and the kids enjoy the beautiful kitchen while I relaxed in the refreshingly clean hot tub. The night before Christmas not a complain was to be heard or any mice either!!
It was absolutely the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER.Response from Mt. Hood Vacation Rentals - 01/04/2010

My wife and I took our 2 mothers to the Mt Hood area for an early Mother's day retreat. The staff at Mt Hood Vacation Rentals couldn't have been more helpful! Most importantly they listened to our requests and our needs. I told them we'd probably spend the weekend playing games and when we arrived at the "retreat" there was a vase with fresh flowers and two decks of cards setting on the dining table! Nice touch! The mom's were loving me! We all would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! The setting was beyond wonderful! There's a beautiful deck overlooking the river. The grounds surrounding the house were imacculate. We cooked all but one of our meals at the house and found everything we needed and then some. The beds were comfortable and as well as the rest of the furnishings. The house had 3 TV's but we didn't turn one on! We visited Timberline Lodge and hiked in a wonderful park just minutes from the house. Almost forgot to mention the hot tub, picture yourself soaking away watching the stars and and listening to the river roll by......Our only regret was not being able to stay longer.

Our stay at the Salmon River Retreat in Brightwood was just wonderful. The home was spotless and had everything we needed. We especially loved the back porch just steps from the river. And the many nearby hiking trails. During our early September vacation the weather was beautiful everyday. The kids loved the many games and puzzles available at the home. I great time was had by all. Thank you Cascade Management for finding the PERFECT home for our family get-together.

Tualatin, OrAlan C.'s review of Salmon River Retreat
Left on 09/03/2008 for a stay in September 2008
The Salmon Retreat cabin is lovely, well-equipped, and well-maintained, with just two problems last weekend with the hot tub and the fireplace.
The hot tub was cooling and in the 90s when we first checked it on Saturday afternoon, after your office had closed for the day. There appeared to be no way for us to reset the temperature, and the hot tub continued to cool. It was in the 80s when we called on Sunday morning. You reset it during the day on Sunday, and it was hot on Sunday evening and Monday morning, when we used it.
The fireplace didn't seem safe or comfortable to use. When a fire was built on Friday evening, the chimney began to slowly leak smoke inside the living room. From the outside of the cabin, the chimney seemed to be working. But inside, smoke could be seen slowly leaking from the joints in the flue, where the pipe turns close to the ceiling. To compound the smoke problem, when the fireplace door was opened to make any adjustments to the fire, smoke poured out of the door.
We built our first fire on Friday evening, but quickly put it out when the leaks became apparent. After we called on Sunday (about the fireplace and hot tub), someone from you office built a fire while we were out - hen we returned, windows were open and the cabin was a bit smokey. But no note was left saying whether the problem had been fixed. We built a second fire on Sunday evening, but again put it out after smoke again leaked into the cabin.
We've rented this Salmon Retreat before, and seem to remember similar problems with the chimney leaking, though less severely back then.
A hot tub and a warm fire would have been nice to enjoy on a cool rainy weekend like the last one.

Hi-We agree that the hot tub and woodstove are important features in the rental home. We always check the hot tubs within a day prior to your arrival and it was functioning properly at that time. Unfortunately, a number of factors can cause the hot tub to shut down. Usually, we just need to reset the hot tub at the breaker. We do have an afterhours phone number that is in the green brochure you received at check in and in the guest book in the home. If we receive a phone call, we will try to get the hot tub heating the first night of your visit. We are disappointed about the leaking stove pipe on the woodstove as it had been repaired about 6 months ago. We are in the process of following up on this issue as of course the woodstove is important as the cooler months approach. Betsy

I researched all of the nearby CPM locations, but my first FIVE choices were booked. Fortunately, I was very pleasantly surprised with how nice SRR was, and how much we enjoyed it. I thought I had brought everything we would need, but was glad to find the cupboards stocked. (By the way, you're now out of Garlic Powder. :) I loved being so close to the river, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend CPM/SRR to anyone. I hope to visit several other CPM locations before the summer is over. All around pleasant experience from beginning to end.
