COWSLIP COTTAGE, pet friendly, character holiday cottage, with a garden in Much Wenlock, Ref 1276

Much Wenlock offers the rustic charm of a medieval market-town, filled with a patchwork of twisting streets, black and white half-timbered buildings, limestone cottages, speciality shops, numerous hostelries and watering holes and the remains of a magnificent 12th Century Priory. Cowslip Cottage was originally a barn and has been lovingly restored to offer accommodation for up to 2 people. It is situated just over 3 miles away from Much Wenlock, in 70 acres of farmland. It retains much of its original charm, through exposed beams that run throughout the property. The accommodation is spread out over one level and is arranged in an open-plan... style. The communal garden to the rear has two fishing lakes and allows ample opportunity for a spot of alfresco dining in the summer months. There is parking for up to 2 cars and local amenities can be found in Much Wenlock.

Amenities: Oil central heating with electric fire in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, washer/dryer, TV, DVD player, radio. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for two cars. Large 3 acre, lawned garden with 2 large fish stocked pools, garden furniture and BBQ. Two small dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. There is free private trout fishing on site (fish must be returned to pond). Shops and restaurants in Much Wenlock 3.5 miles, pub 1.5 miles. Note: Only suitable for a babe in arms. There is a private spring water supply. There are two unfenced ponds in the garden. Note: The doors at this cottage are not large enough for a wheelchair. Note: The mobile signal in this area is very poor.

Region: A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Town: The Priory forms a backdrop to many outdoor events and theatrical performances, including the Tales from the Edge Festival. The 16th Century Guildhall hosts regular antiques markets. Above the town rises the Wenlock Edge which provides glorious views. This 15 mile limestone escarpment was created some 400 million years ago and is now looked after by the National Trust. The Edge and its ancient woodlands offer excellent walks, cycling and riding opportunities. Long distance routes like the Jack Mytton Way and Shropshire Way pass over Wenlock Edge. All prices are inclusive of the booking fee. The "Min. Per Night" prices quoted are based on the weekly rental price, they are not applicable for short breaks. See our short break policy or ask for further details.
Winter Short Breaks (WSB) are available at many properties in the "Winter" period - subject to availability. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. Off Season Breaks (OSB) are available at many properties in parts of the "Low" and "Mid" periods - subject to availability. The price for a 3 night break is either 75% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. OSBs can be booked within a calendar month of the start date of the holiday. "Last Minute Breaks" (LMB) are available at most properties throughout the "LOW", "MID", "HIGH", "PEAK", "XMAS" and "NEW YEAR" periods. The price for a 3 night break is either 65% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. LMBs can be booked within one week of the start date of the holiday.

  We decided to try a cottage break this year and take our Tibetan Terrier for a holiday rather than sticking him in Kennels. It was a good decision we found ourselves at Cowslip Cottage, as our first cottage rental we thought it was extremely good with all facilities you could wish for. The cottage is located on a working farm and if you have a satnav you will need to use it. A delightful setting with a well kept 3 acre garden with two small lakes for fishing. As we were only there for 4 days we spent a lot of time seeing local sights, I look forward to returning and taking a bit more time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The owners have two delightfull little dogs called Humphry and Plumb both are very friendly especially Humphry who made instant friends with our old boy and used to wait outside our door for him to come out to play! We found some good pet friendly pubs which served some lovely food within a few miles, Plume of Feathers, Wenlock Edge Inn and Riverside Inn are worth a mention and I will review seperately. The only disappointment was that in the visitors book many people made reference to the Eggs and Bread provided, we did not get this but never mind. There are not many shops nearby, the nearest is a Spar in Much Wenlock with a basic range, as we ate out it wasn't a problem but if we stayed longer I would take more food. Definately worth another visit. Oh just worth saying there is hardly any mobile phone cover which was a real bonus.

  Lovely holiday

  We arrived to find a home baked loaf and fresh eggs in the kitchen. The cottage was light and airy and had all you need for a holiday stay. The owners were lovely and made sure that you enjoyed your stay. Great place to explore the surrounding countryside and Ironbridge. Will stay again

  Very quiet New Year

  On arrival we found towels for the dog plus fresh eggs and home baked bread for us.
  The cottage was very clean,warm, inviting and well kept and the owners were friendly and obliging.
  We had a very quiet peaceful New Year which is what we went for and found it a good base for exploring the area.

  Comfortable Relaxing Cottage

  A lovely cottage with everything needed to make our stay comfortable. Service from our host was excellent with the location being in a good spot for the local and surrounding areas we required.
  It is certainly a cottage we would recommend to others.
  The only down side is that a GPS was required as this cottage is 'Off the beaten track' and would have been hard to find otherwise.
