It has a lovely pool overlooking Muri Lagoon which was used alot due to the hot weather. Joy and John are such lovely people and make you feel very welcome. The Navigator
My husband and I travelled from Sydney direct to Rarotonga and we were met by Joy who accompanied us to the Hire Car office, and then onwards to our fantastic holiday home "The Navigator". What a delight it was too and everything was sparkling and beautifully decorated in a relaxed mode.
The living area occupied all the downstairs area, lots of stainless steel bench tops, great kitchen, lounge areas, downstairs toilet, and TV entertainment area. WiFi connection is available..a card can be purchased for about $16 from the Telecom shop about 200 metres along the road or you can use the computers at the shop at a nominal cost with Internet connection.
A stairway with SS safety rails took us up to our sleeping quarters. There was 2 x King sized bedrooms, each having its own fully services bathroom with spa bath and shower. The lovely view could be seen from these rooms as well as an outside balcony.
Outdoors downstairs, was a lovely sparkling clean pool with wooden decking surrounding , complete with patio table and chairs, sun lounges and barbecue as well as Kayaks, snorkels and flippers. The pool was maintained daily.
Having a car was a great advantage as it gave a lot of flexibility. Each day we drove somewhere for lunch and tried the local fish (mainly Tuna, but it is delicious) Trader Jacks is a great place for lunch and dinner..really nice with a good menu including the best pizzas Licenced. The Mooring is a great place for lunch with a menu of freshly caught fish. Meals are about $12.00 (The owner is a professional fisherman)BYO. Saturdays is market day in the main town and so much to dee and buy, as well as fresh produce. Sunday is a religious day for most Rarotongans and only a handful of shops are open.
All in all it was a fantastic holiday and The Navigator was an excellent choice for us. All sleeping is upstairs so maybe this should be considered if there is any physical disability.

Newcastle,AustraliaOur Favourite Holiday Destination
Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Having stayed in most of the Pacific Islands the Cook Islands has to be the very best with the Navigator being our favourite place. It is spacious, open, has its own private beach, has a beautiful deep pool overlooking Muri Lagoon and has walks both along the beach and along the road to nearby eating houses and resorts.
Our favourite activities from Navigator are kayaking with very easy access to the kayaks; wading through the chest high water( depending on the tide) to the nearby motus; snorkelling among the bommies and finding a wide range of coloured fish or simply enjoying the view across the lagoon to the reef.
For all of our stays we have hired a small albeit old convertible which allowed us to travel around the island to enjoy a the variety of eating places. Our favourite drive to places are Tamarind House and the Little Polynesian whereas our favourite walk to place is Muri Beach Club.
Our fun activities last time were the progressive supper which took us into the real homes of Cook Islanders; the cultural night in the hills; being a part of the service at the nearby church and having a delicious waffle in the market precinct.
The Navigator's decor has an island theme and is very comfortable. You need to know that there is no laundry but it a very short walk to the local laundromat as is to a small supermarket.
The part that we couldn't get our heads around was the layout of the bedrooms. They have been opened up at the front to maximise the view. We hesitated because we couldn't get our heads around it but it absolutely fine. We have stayed there three times with another couple and have booked in for four weeks next year. That in itself says volumes.
John and Joy are wonderful hosts and are there regularly to make sure everything is up and running. They also take the time to talk and give you insights on how to make your holiday better.
A great place to stay! -

There was nothing that we disliked about Navigator, Muri Lagoon house. Everything we needed and more was in the house.
Joy was a pleasure to deal with from my 1st contact, met us at the airport (which was an unexpected and very pleasant surprise) and her husband John called by one afternoon and he too is a very nice person.
The location is fantastic - your own private beach - a short stroll along the beach to the main part of Muri.
We didn't see another place that we would prefer. -

I stayed at the Navigator with my husband, daughter and her husband. From the moment we met Joy we felt welcomed and then when we saw our accommodation we knew we didn't want to leave. The house is presented well. We had our own pool and just a few more steps we were in the lagoon. We found out that a lot visitors keep coming back to stay at The Navigator and we know why. We will be returning and will want stay here again, but we will have to book in advanced as it is booked well ahead.

Our experience with The Navigator shall be with us forever. The house is a beautiful open concept. Our first morning shall be memorable. We opened our eyes to a magnificent view overlooking the palm tree, lagoon, the island and the crashing waves onto the reefs. The house has all the utilities you would have in your own home. Pots, pans, electrical appliances and nice dishes. The kitchen table is large and the living room furnisher is comfortable. The beds and bedding our such that you don't want to get out of them. I slept more hours there than I do at home. The pool area is fantastic. The pool itself is large and where you would spend most of your day ( and nights ). There is a nice table and chairs set up with a umbrella where we would have our meals most days. There's also lounge chairs for you to relax on. The barbeque was a nice addition which we used almost daily. There's also a shower for you to shower off the salt water after being in the lagoon. As we are animal lovers, the dogs were fun to watch and be with. We brought 8 kilos off dog treats, but was not enough. We bought dog food from the grocery store. We also fed the chickens bread crumbs. John told us about the large eel in the stream and to feed it table scrapes. We didn't see it for the first couple nights, but then we did. It was amazing, the eel was huge. There is a grocery store left of the property about 5 minutes walk and another one about 15 minute walk which is a better choice, Mr. Woo is the owner and a nice gentleman. Car rental is just about across the street, where we rented a car for a couple of days. Also restaurants are within walking distance. We would like to thank John and Joy for allowing us to use there slice of paradise. A big thanks to Christian for showing me how to husk my first coconut. And thank you to Vaietu (water star) for keeping the yard clean. You guys are the greatest.

What a fantastic house, full of spirit and life and colour inside with such a serene and tranquil relaxing environment outside. Great views from all over the house, plenty of bathrooms, lovely living area, awesome location and the pool was a definite bonus. Joy and John were great hosts, making sure the yard and pool were always tidy and well maintained and they were very happy to oblige with some good advice on things to do in the area. We truly had such a wonderful time staying at the Navigator and can't wait to go back!

This was our third time staying at the Navigator, and we can't wait to stay again. Perfect Location right on the Beach, great hosts and Beautiful island paradise. The house is amazing as always, and John and Joy are the most gracious hosts we've ever had the pleasure to meet.Nothing is ever too much trouble, and they are always in contact with out being intrusive. We've stayed in many different accommodations all over the world as we have travelled quite extensively, but every 12 months we come back to the Navigator, our home away from home. Great Place, great times - good friends.

Just returned from a week in Rarotonga at the Navigator. Joy and John are great hosts and their home was perfect for our family of five. We loved the location, the pool, the facilities and our daily visits from Stumpy and the rest of the dog posse - when Stumpy would let them visit! The Navigator is a lovely home managed by a lovely family. Highly recommended.

We just couldn't believe our eyes! The most perfect spot on the island and it was all ours!
For two couples sharing, and one single in a bed downstairs, this was all you could ask for in a pad.
Fully set up kitchen, pool, beach, walking distance to everywhere, awesome owners, many bathrooms, kayaks, and big screen TV if you ever wanted to go there! The pool and air con were our first considerations and they were superb!
Only one draw back but we seemed to cope, the noise levels are pretty high as its all very open plan. But hey, we were considerate of each other and chose to make it work. Still had a very large bed each and bathroom!
We had additional 2 guests in our party that stayed at the Manea Beach villas right next door and we just got together at our place for food and swimming. It works very well and everyone was very accommodating.
Joy recommended a brilliant massage therapist, Inano, who came up to the house with her massage table...Must do!
So all in all...Fabulous! I would recommend this house to couples and older families. Its the best value for money on the island every local we ran into said the same. We would absolutely come back!
Thanks Joy...till next time honey! -

We had a wonderful 10 days staying at The Navigator in Muri in September/October 2012. The house is so spacious and comfortable with everything you need, and the location is amazing, right on the beach. We loved having the swimming pool and the kayaks and most days we swam, snorkeled and kayaked, oh the life! The lagoon has to be seen to be believed, it really is paradise. We could have happily stayed around the house/pool/beach the whole time, but did take time away to do a few other things. We would definitely recommend the Te Vara Nui Cultural Village and Captain Tama's Lagoon Cruise, plus my husband had a great time diving with the very professional people at The Dive Centre at aro'a Beach. The snorkeling is particularly amazing from aro'a Beach, a real highlight for all of us. We also found great food at The Mooring Fish Cafe, Tamarind House, The Flame Tree Restaurant and Deli Cafe which made superb chocolate truffles! Try not to miss the Saturday market in avaroa too, great crepes and lots of colorful clothes to buy!

Can't not say anything negative about this place, by far the best value for money on Muri beach (maybe even the whole island). We can't recommend The Navigator enough and with hosts like Joy and John our stay was just perfect. John even called to warn us that fuel was about to run out on the island so we could fill up without any troubles. Rent The Navigator and you won't be disappointed. We will differently be booking it again!

The place was absolutely ideal. We woke every morning and our pet saying was "no-one stolen our view". The house was beautifully kept and the fact that we got clean towels and bedding supplied every two days was awesome. My only comment would be that if you went with friends you would need to be very "friendly", as the bedrooms are not absolutely private noise wise.

Manhattan Beach, California, USAOur best vacation rental ever!
Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This home is absolutely beautiful, on a magnificent beach, with lagoon views that can't be beat! We've rented several vacation homes over the years, and this was hands-down our best vacation rental ever.
John and Joy were excellent hosts. John met us at the airport, guided us to the house, and provided a thorough tour of the house with instructions on how to operate everything. Joy checked on us during the week to see if we needed anything. Both were readily available on the phone for questions. They are wonderful, good people! We enjoyed meeting such a nice family.
The home was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The kitchen was stocked with everything you'll need equipment-wise. There's a nice BBQ/grill on the deck just outside the kitchen door. Every aspect of the house was high quality. We didn't find secondhand, left-over, mismatched stuff often found in vacation rentals.
The bedrooms had comfortable beds and bedding. Each had it's own private (and large) bath room. The supply of towels was more than ample. There was air conditioning in each bedroom. The design of the bedrooms is loft style - no wall at the foot of the beds. This allows for spectacular lagoon views. A curtain "wall" can be pulled out for some privacy from the rest of the house. If sharing the house with kids or others this can make for a small challenge when you want some "alone time" with your significant other...
The pool was clean and the deck had two padded lounge chairs and a table with chairs. Two more lounge chairs were on the sand below the deck. Four kayaks were provided and got lots of use. We used them to paddle around and to visit the little islands on the other side of the lagoon.
The lagoon itself seems very safe for kids. Ours (11 and 14) spent a lot of time paddling in front of the house, going to the island, collecting hermit crabs (catch and release) and playing with the island dogs that make regular appearances on the beach.

We were astounded when we walked into this home - it is huge & stunning! It was so much more than we imagined and the photos can't do it justice! The owners came to the airport (arrival & departure) and made sure that we had everything we needed throughout the week we were there. It's so roomy and spacious, perfect for a family or more than one couple. It would be a beautiful location for a party or wedding too! It is right on the lagoon, which was perfect to kayak in (provided), and swim. You can walk/kayak across the lagoon to the neighboring islands - kids loved hunting for crabs over there, and the beach is pretty much private - we rarely saw other people! The house is also within walking distance to multiple resorts (but not close enough that those people disturb you) and their additional activities - sailing, kite boarding, stand up paddle board. It is centrally located, but this island is so small, I would say everything is centrally located.
The kitchen is more than well-stocked with implements and the basic spices, coffee, etc. (when you stay here, make sure you look in the cabinets before shopping). Bbq and outdoor eating area was nice too.
Sitting by the pool each morning and sipping coffee was a total luxury - we felt so spoiled here.
We traveled with younger teenagers and there was a lot to do - we plan on bringing our younger niece back with us, however, this house is not a house for small children (under 6?), the elderly/unsteady as the indoor stairs are very open, as is the upstair loft area. We found it beautiful to have the house open in this way.
Basically, I can't say enough about this rental. It is the very best beach house we've stayed in and will definately be back! -

It's hard to imagine that The Navigator could have been better the second time around, but it truly was. Having stayed in 2010, we didn't expect this visit (March/April 2012) to surpass the last. It did, in many ways.
The Navigator is a beautiful home in the most amazing location on Muri Beach. The views, the beach, privacy, peace and quiet and gorgeous lagoon and pool all make it a stay in paradise.
The villa has been updated and improved upon, making it even more comfortable and homey. As always, the owners, John and Joy, were there for any needs or questions that arose. We felt so welcome and well looked after.
The bedrooms have stunning views. The common areas are large, bright and airy. The kitchen is large and well equipped.

Rarotonga is a beautiful island which captures paradise, with friendly people, blue waters and tropical lush surroundings. The Navigator is a beach front property, on one of the most stunning beaches with the most amazing views. The design of the property is open and spacious, allowing the indoor outdoor experience to enhance your stay. Waking up in the morning to the view of the lagoon, with the sun shining, the water bluer than blue, is a truly accelerating feeling of enjoyment and pleasure.
The lagoon is crystal clear and is nice for swimming, but the pool is also nice to cool down in and overlooks the lagoon. Very nice to relax in while still enjoying the palms, white sand and watching the waves break on the reef.
The owners are very accommodating and offer a high level of customer service. They are available should you need assistance, but not invasive, allowing you to enjoy all their property has to offer.
I highly recommend this property, it has to be seen to be believed, offering you your own private slice of paradise.

We stay at the Navigator each year for a girls trip away. I have stayed at resorts on the island in the past but after staying at the Navigator the first time I won't stay anywhere else again. The house is modern and spacious with the most amazing views. When you wake up in the morning you look out the huge windows and see the beautiful lagoon. The deck area with it's pool and furniture is perfect for sunbathing, meals, and of course those cocktails in the evenings. This property is the envy of guests staying at resorts next door, with our very own private pool and just a couple of steps out onto the white sandy beach of the lagoon. John and Joy are wonderful hosts and make the experience all the more wonderful with their great service.
