      The Best

Left on 06/03/2013 for a stay in May 2013

We have been vacationing with the couple who joined us at the vacation house in Murphy for over 30 years. For the most part our accomodations have been good or better than good. The Murphy house went directly to the top of the list. The 4 of us agree that it was the best ever. It was well furnihes, spotless, very relaxing and there are no words to adequately descibe the view. In addition the area has something to offer for everyone.

      We will be back.

      Mountain Getaway

Left on 05/23/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Looking for a peaceful getaway, that's not too hard to reach? This is it. We loved it! Early in the morning the fog rested in the mountains while the deer crossed the river below. We watched turkey in the field as we toasted the evening with a drink while basking in the hot tub. Ducks flew in and out down on the river. Goldfinches, cardinals, phoebes and more visited the bird feeders while we sat on the porch with our laptops sending photos back home to make everyone jealous.
The kitchen was well-equipped although I took pretty much everything I expected to need for a few simple meals. As for food, do take any staples you may need, (flour, sugar, spices)so you don't have to go buy a 5 lb. bag. For instance, I knew I was going to make our favorite baked onion rings so I took a baggie with the flour and cornmeal mix.

The hillside is quite steep so I was glad we didn't bring a rambunctious dog. But the neighbor's dog came to visit (he is So sweet!) and he had no problem walking down the steep hillside.

We had a couple of issues with the satellite TV, and the hot tub, but Butch was always available by phone to walk us through things. Do be careful with the locks though. I locked myself out the first day, but my trusty husband had the extra key in his pocket. After that we never locked the door knob while we were there. We only used the deadbolt.

We love Murphy and took the time to do some sightseeing: Brasstown Bald, rented a pontoon on Hiwassee out of Bear Claw, among other places. Check out armadillo Grill in Blairsville (but they close at 8pm) and Chevelles or Chop House in Murphy. Chevelles was good both times we went--casual dinners and lunches. Chop House is outstanding! My favorite restaurant. A little more elegant, but very good. (The Chef was a White House cook. Check out the plaques on the wall.)

What did we like least? Leaving!

This is the perfect place to be on vacation. I brought my family here and the kids loved it too. Everything you need is already there and it is secluded and beautiful, although if you need anything you don't have to go far. The owners are very welcoming and accommodating. The home is absolutely beautiful! as is the view and scenery! Very well furnished and clean. I am very picky about cleanliness and this place is right on! We liked the hot tub and the fire places the best. Have a good time at this cabin!

What amazingly gorgeous views! It rained several of the days we were there, but when the sun came out.. it was.. Wow!

We will definitely be making a return trip as we love this area of North Carolina! Thanks to the homeowners for a wonderful experience for our first real vacation in a very long time! :)

Very Nice cabin. Good size for 4 people. It would be good to have a tv in the second bedroom for the kids. We couldn't figure out how to watch something in the master bedroom since there was not an extra satellite box and didn't find any instructions.Great place to get away and enjoy the peace and quiet along with a great view, although the wildlife didn't cooperate :(. I'm sure it's beautiful in the fall when the leaves are turning. Would recommend this place to anyone and hopefully we will stay again in the future.

Tracy - We want to apologize for the problem you were having with the TV in the master bedroom. We just recently contracted with Dish Network and one DVR will handle two TVs, You can tape anything on either TV and watch it later on the other TV. The master bedroom TV has to be on channel 60 and the living room TV needs to be on Video 7. If you do return in the future please call me at 478-397-0326 if you have any problems and I will be happy to assist you. Thank you so much for renting our cabin and we hope to hear from you in the future. Take care and be safe!

The awsome view from the covered porch and hot tub!

Left on 08/11/2012 for a stay in August 2012

There were so many little extras and the owners were so helpful we felt like welcome guests not just renters. Of course we enjoyed the awesome views from the porch and hot tub, but when we had to be inside we had a great view of the Olympics from the huge wide screen TV. We even enjoyed the thunderstorms, with the sound of the rain on the porch roof and panoramic view of storm clouds and lighting, and the mist rising off the river below we really didn't spend much time indoors.
We hiked down the steps to the river one day... that was an adventure in itself.
We rented a pontoon boat from Harbor cove one day. Great suggestion thanks, it was well worth it!
Yumm! Shoobooties in downtown Murphy, can't say enough about the staff and food! We celebrated my son's birthday for "all you can eat crablegs Thursday" you would think they caught the crablegs out of the Hiawasee River they were so fresh! some of the best we've had and such lovely folks.
Oh one thing we didn't see anyone else mention in your reviews was the River walk in downtown Murphy, we really enjoyed it you can walk or canoe, and visit downtown Murphy all in one stop.
      Thanks again,
      Thanks again,

We instantly felt at home in this cabin. Awesome river views, nice porch & hot tub! The neighborhood is also wonderful, upscale estate lots and homes were also well maintained. It is like being away from it all but close enough to get to town and the marina with ease. The paved road is a plus as well as the garage and expansive driveway. We could only stay 4 nights but it was so worth it! Thanks to the owners attention to detail, by including the little things! The kitchen had all the supplies needed to help us cook our whole stay, considering my husband is a chef we like to eat in! Oooh la la! Thanks for the wonderful stay!

      Gorgeous Cabin

Left on 07/04/2012 for a stay in June 2012

My husband and I and our dog Grogan stayed at the cabin in mid June. What a view! The place was emaculate. Plenty of everything you would need (never saw so many towels at a rental in my life!!) The weather was perfect--cool in the morning and warmed up to high 80's-90 everyday. The deck was covered so even though it was hot you could sit out there and get a wonderful breeze coming off the river and mountains. Very peaceful and quiet. Nice to walk the dog and see all the beautiful homes and say hi to the neighbors. Downtown Murphy is a joy and so easy to get to. We would have loved to have used the fireplace--it's huge--but way too warm to light up this time of year. The aC was great. We left it on 75 and the cabin was so comfortable we never had to touch the thermostat. The hot tub was crystal clear and we used it often. Anyone who stays here will love it!!

      Totally awesome!

Left on 06/10/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We just finished our week's vacation at this cabin. It was a great experience, the views were awesome and the cabin was perfect. We travel on a motorcycle so the road to and from the cabin being paved was great. Also, having a garage to park the bike in was an added bonus. We have a very bad storm in the middle of the night and we didn't have to get up to check on the bike. lol I believe if it had been outside the cover would have ended up in the next county. It has everything you would ever need. We traveled every day but one and decided to spend that day just enjoying the cabin and the views. We, too, enjoyed the daily visits from "Sam" (I think that is his name)...I believe he could smell the bacon every morning. Butch provided us with such detailed information regarding the cabin as well as the surrounding area that took a lot of guesswork out of our trip. We would recommend this cabin to anyone that just wants to escape from the daily rigors of work, etc. We didn't see any deer but did see the wild turkeys, birds and rabbits. Great roads all around to ride with beautiful scenery. Lots of places to eat...we really enjoyed ShoeBooties in downtown Murphy. Unfortunately, the week went by way to fast...but vacations always do. Thanks Butch for providing a great place for us to stay.

      We will be visiting again!

Left on 04/08/2012 for a stay in April 2012

We have stayed in a dozen different rentals in this area over the years and this home rates at the top! We have already decided to make it our home for our next visit.
Long range views of the mountains, unobstructed by trees from the deck..hot tub...family room...or the fire pit area. Additionally, you can see and hear the river rapids below, all of which creates the perfect place to sit and rock, read, and sip your favorite beverage.
While the home is easy to get to (no winding and scary roads) it is the quietest home we have stayed in!
If you haven't been to Murphy, NC you need to make this your starting point for your vacation. I personally love the many flea markets where I always find something interesting and it is a central location for day trips throughout north Ga and SE NC (including Chattanooga, Gaitlinburg, Cherokee, Asheville, Blairsville, Blue Ridge, and Ellijay...apple capital of Ga).
This trip we rented a pontoon boat for the day a the local Marina on Lake Nottley, about 15 minutes away, and had an amazing afternoon fishing, getting some sun, and seeing the beautiful lake vistas.
Plan on spending a lot of time relaxing in front of the fire, in the hot tub, or in a rocker on the deck...I know that is where you will find us again soon! Thanks Butch for sharing your home!

      What a great Place!!

Left on 03/21/2012 for a stay in March 2012

I have been reading some of the other reviews and have to agree with the positive experiences of all. The views are great, morning noon and night. We saw deer and turkey in the pasture below and the morning mist was nice while drinking that first cup of coffee or tea. The place was so comfy and relaxing that we could have stayed inside and been fine with it, however the mountains were calling for us to explore.
The drive back over the mountains on highway 19 East during the day gave us a chance to see what we drove thru during the dark.. Maybe some of the curves should be kept in the dark and not be seen..Lol..
We enjoyed every moment of our visit and will keep it in mind for future trips. A couple of suggestions for you: install a screen door so that the breeze can be felt while keeping the bugs outside where they belong. Also you may look at opening up the section of lattice by the steps so that you don't have to negotiate the slope on the corner when the feet are wet from the hot tub.
All in all, a a great trip that ended far too soon. Thanks

What an awesome experience!! Even though the weather was Spring Like (no leaves on the trees actually made all the views better & a little scarier)!! The Cabin had it covered. From the views of the morning mist in the Mountains to the Vultures in the near by trees along the Nottley! The push of a button for a cozy fire (that we didn't have to haul wood) to enjoy and the Romantic Hot Tub with the winds blowing down from the Mountains!!We did day trips including White Knuckling the Dragon Tail(28)off of 19. The Trip to Cherokee was beautiful even in the rain & lunch at Paul Dean's in the Casino did not disappoint. One of the Butchers at Ingle's told us about a great road W.of Franklin(1310) that ran along the Nantahala River with some beautiful Water Falls!! Just down the road from the cabin in Georgia the Nottley Dam & Lake Nottley were quite a site!! All the local people we visited with were so nice & the neighbor dog came to visit every morning just for a min.. Everything we needed made it great to come "Back Home" at the end of a Beautiful Mountain Day!! The attached garage on the rainy & windy days was great & the open floor plan made it better than home!!

Lynn and Joe - We want to thank you for the fantastic review you submitted on our cabin. We are so happy that you enjoyed yourselves so much. If you ever do return please check out this web site www.tailofthedragon.com. I know you’ve done the tail of the dragon but this link identifies other bike routes also that have awesome views as well. Below is feedback from another renter in regard to this web site. Be safe riding!!

Butch, That's for the note. We've done most of these roads at one time or another, Cherohala Pkwky is pretty sweet. We haven't been on Dragontail in a few years. The guys on crotch rockets are getting crazier every year. It didn't bother me much, but Rick got pretty scared by a couple of them the last time we rode it. If you make suggestions to other people, one of the best roads we've been on is 19/129 south of Blairsville- heading towards Dahlonega. There is a stretch of probably 8-10 miles that rivals Dragontail for twisty/curvy. Plus the lanes are wider, There are truck lanes in spots and the pavement surface is better. I also found a bathroom at a state park last year- a small but welcome thing. While there is naturally other traffic it's not all maniacs on crotch rockets doing 110mph around a 90 degree blind curve or 60 mph through a hairpin, riding 3 wide. I think this year we may do the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway again, it's fun. Also, I think we may ride over Greenville,SC way one day. My wife and I have been talking of retiring there in a few years and I want to get a feel for the territory. Anyway, thanks for the tips, they are all fun roads down there and I'm already getting antsy. Keep in touch. Mark

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful cabin in Murphy, NC for one week 10/29 thru 11/5. We were there at peak foliage for 2011. Late in the afternoon from the cabin deck we saw 5 wild turkeys in a field across from the Nottley river. The hot tub was very clean as was the cabin inside and out. This cabin is only a ten minute drive to downtown Murphy where you will find several excellent restaurants. We used the firepit and roasted hot dogs one night. Bright stars at night from the hot tub were a treat too! We have stayed in serveral cabins around Murphy and this one was by far the best! I would recommend it to anyone. The cabin owners are great individuals to rent from and they are very accommodating!

We had a wonderful time at your cabin, it was everything you said it was and more...We enjoy the deck so much, most of our time was on the deck the view was out of this world. The sound of the river with that view, words can not express the pleasure that we enjoyed. We enjoyed that cute table on the deck, it was the best (could not figure it out in the pictures on this site). We ate every meal at that table. We saw a shooting star the biggest I have ever seen. We enjoyed the Wildlife-turkeys, deer, Hawks and Canadian geese. We brought a telescope so we could watch all the wild life and stars. We loved the fireplace we enjoyed a fire everynight. The cabin was so clean and comfortable..We loved the garage and the cabin was one level instead of multi level. The sounds and sites of all the birds were beyond belief.Thank you for a wonderful vacation... We will be booking next year vacation shortly.

Left on 07/20/2011 for a stay in July 2011

This spot is a gem. Having stayed in the area previously, there are many choices. This one is priced better than most I have seen with comparable amenities. The views are spectacular, although I didn't get to see a bear. Inside, it's very clean, equipped with everything you want and the beds are quite comfortable. The hot tub was great after a day on the motorcycles. It is very biker friendly, only a mile off the main road (but still very secluded and private) and features paved road all the way back, along with a paved driveway. Also the 2 car garage is nice so you don't have to cover the bikes at night. It's very centrally located in relation to the many great twisty/curvies in the area. A definite must ride is Highway 19/129 south of Blairsville,Ga. It's almost as intense as The Dragontail, except the pavement is better, the lanes are wider, there are some truck lanes and there are no cops or crazies on crotchrockets. I was also very impressed with how easy the owner is to get along with and how helpful he was in every way. It's a winner all around.

Lovely cabin with a view to die for!

Left on 06/21/2011 for a stay in May 2011

The cabin was just as advertised and was stocked with all the dishes and utilities you could ask for. We were able to see both deer and turkey from a long range view across the river, along with all the squirrels, rabbits and birds around the cabin. We were on a mission to find a long term rental home in the Murphy area, and with Butch's fine help were able to do so. We are anxious to get moved up there now and will be looking at the same view we had at Butch's cabin.

This was our 2nd time to this wonderful cabin. We had come down here last year too. The owners are wonderful to work with, they're very friendly. The house is clean, cute and comfortable. We loved the veiw, the deck is great. The hot tub was awsome! The house has an attached garage w/door opener. This was so nice. The neighborhood is very nice, we hardly saw anyone. We will for sure be back!!!

      Truly breathtaking view.

When you drive up to the front of this cabin you cannot imagine the beautiful view that awaits. The back deck overlooks the river, a huge corn field, and the mountains. It is really beautiful.

The cabin has a very cozy atmosphere. It is decorated in a true cabin style, from locally made furniture to bears on the bedspreads. The gas logs are great!!!

It is located close to other cabins, which made me feel very safe, yet it had plenty of privacy as well.

My favorite thing to do while I was there, was to walk down the road and pet the horses that you pass on your way in. Just be careful, they will sneeze on you. Evidently they did not like the grass I picked for them. I will take some carrots or apples next time I go.

One last thing, everything you need to prepare a meal was in the kitchen minus the food of course. There were also some things you may forget like salt and pepper.

Butch Zirkle was very accomodating and made it easy to make the plans to rent the house. He emailed us while at the house to be sure we had everything we needed. The home was very clean and all the furniture and beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was was very well stocked and made it easy to make meals there. The partial covered porch with log bar height table and stools was a wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and the views of the mountains and the river. The hot tub was a great place to unwind in the evenings and we used it every day. The house was on a very easily accessed road. We loved everything about this house, but if I had to say one negative thing, it would be that it would be nice to have easy access to walk down to the river. I would recommend this house to anyone who enjoys relaxing in the mountains and appreciates the beauty of nature.

Best cabin we've stayed in mountains. Beautiful cabin and view! Overall rating is above average, but the 5 star rating on our computer wouldn't go higher. Definitely 5 stars!

      Wonderful!

We had a wonderful three days here! My husband loved the bear fishing off the back porch and went home and made me one for our cottage on the creek in TN. The hot tub was so welcome early in the morning and in the evenings after running around all day. The home was really comfortable and cozy. We hope to go back again as it truly was one of our favorites. The price was right too which was a blessing.

We Loved it here! The Home was so comfy, cozy, we really didn't want to leave! A wonderful fireplace warmed us on chilly nights, as well as the Hot Tub! The location was ideal, it was so tranquil and the only things you here are the birds, and not a bit of traffic! We highly recommend this to anyone who is Lucky enough to find this Gem in the Mountains, and the price of the rental is the best you will find anywhere! The owners are wonderful people, and in case you need them, you can get them!
