London, United KingdomPeaceful and Tranquil
Left on 09/26/2012 for a stay in September 2011
I arrived from London (UK) not having had a break for quite a while and jet-lagged but the night I arrived the sky was filled with one of the most stunning night skies I have ever seen which took my breath away. The Milky Way was spectacular... Clearing the city from my mind had begun in a rather dramatic way.
I awoke the following morning having slept like a baby to the wonderful prospect of a massage from a lovely local woman (a naturopath from Gravenhurst) which succeeded in really clearing jetlag from my system and kick starting the relaxation which unfolded over the coming hours and days. She came to the cottage to massage 3 of us and really was well worth trying out. By the by, cottage is a misnomer for such a large and spacious home.
I slept beautifully and woke each morning happier and happier as I relaxed more and more and was lucky enough to wake up to beautiful sunshine and warmth in late September. Breakfasts were great as there is a large open space between the living room and the dining area plus kitchen linking them looking out onto the lake. So each one of us could emerge at our leisure and join in or sit off somewhere to be quiet if so wished, inside or outside on the deck. The local bakery in Gravenhurst was a big hit with most of us as they make delicious chelsea buns and cakes, better than the original ones over here! A low fat breakfast it is not, but when on your holidays a little indulgence goes a long way...
We visited the local wildlife sanctuary which was both hilarious at times as the staff were brilliant (see photo below) but also an eye-opener to the wonders of nature. Check out the wolverine's dance - amazing and mesmerisingly beautiful. I thought wolverines existed only in Hollywood...
Some beautiful memories...Lying out on the hammock and simply closing my eyes and listening to birdsong was so relaxing, or turning my head a few inches to gaze out on the tranquil lake, had the same effect. However, my favourite was walking out of the property to a large open space just before Trenanthia on the same side to spend time alone and to reconnect to myself and to Nature. As I walked, the breeze would whisper through the tops of the trees and the occasional bird would sing, the wildflowers were a random sprinkling of colour on a gorgeous large grassy open space that simply kept drawing me back. If you have been too busy for too long... this is a fantastic place to go and just be. To relax, to feel peace and tranquility gently flow through you and Nature surround you with its beauty and restore you. I wish you a wonderful holiday...Response from Ellie Trenanthiacottage - 10/15/2012

If I was forced to give a criticism of Trenanthia Cottage, it would be that I wasn't able to stay longer. Comfortable, well furnished and with every convenience you could ask for, it's also in an idyllic location. There's nothing quite like lazing in a hot tub while gazing out over a beautiful lake - the experience was one of peacefulness and tranquility, mixed, of course, with some wonderful evenings of friends and laughter. A couple of days there and you've forgotten that city life ever existed, let alone are yearning for it. I'll be going back next year - as soon as I can, in fact. Highly recommend Trenanthia for a getaway with family or friends.

Having booked and seen pictures of Trenanthia Cottage online we were excited to get there. What we found was more then we expected. The "cottage" is a mansion. My kids loved it, exploring every nook they could inside and outside the house. Talk about plenty of room. The inside of the cottage has great modern decor but the outside is the wow factor.
There was 8 of us altogether. Two families with kids and there was plenty of room to socialize or be alone. The lake was perfect for my kids to splash about in in the shallows.
We had the local handyman check in with us to make sure everything was good and up to our needs which was amazing. He was super friendly and helpful with information on the local area.
We have recommended this place to a bunch of our friends one of who has already booked it. We know they wont be disappointed!
The canoe, the volleyball, the peddle boat, all but a distance fond memory now. I highly recommend this place for a great city get away for anyone. We'll be back Trenanthia Cottage. Yes we will!!Response from Ellie Trenanthiacottage - 09/06/2012

Lakefieldpoor quality - poor value
Left on 08/08/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We have rented several Muskoka cottages. This was the worst. The cottage was very dirty when we arrived: carpets stained, shower curtains moldy, walls dirty, bed skirt covered in dog hair, dirty toilet seats, fridge and microwave dirty. I could go on. The "beach" front is very shallow, essentially swamp and the view from the cottage is not particularly attractive. Large numbers of Canada geese that occupy the deck and lawn area, while nice to look at, leave copious droppings. Overall, very poor value. I would not recommend this property to anyone.

We apologize we were unable to meet your expectations. The conditions you described certainly don't reflect the high standards and excellent cottage experience we consistently deliver to our guests, as we hope the other reviews help to exemplify. We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback and, with time to reflect, if you should happen to change your mind we'd be happy to welcome you back. All the best, the Trenanthia Cottage family :)

TorontoA very special place.

We were delighted with Trenanthia Cottage. We arrived from Toronto on a cold Friday evening in late November, and within an hour we were sitting around the living room with the fire blazing, drinking wine and chatting as if we were at home. The decor is beautiful and the cottage has a wonderful cozy feel. Everything you need in terms of kitchen appliances / crockery / table settings is there. It has the perfect balance of having your home comforts with all the draws of going to a lakeside cottage.
The cottage was also extremely clean when we arrived and they provided ample cleaning stuffs to leave the place as we found it.
The owners were very helpful and were in constant communication with us as we planned our weekend. While we were there, the local Super checked in with us by phone and in person to make sure the fires were working okay.
Overall, we had a terrific time and everything was perfect. We want to go back every year!Response from Ellie Trenanthiacottage - 05/07/2012

our group has now trusted our annual get-together to trenanthia for three years, and it's been fantastic. we have a group of 16, and we've been doing this for 31 years, so the venue and atmosphere are of the utmost importance. trenanthia has always been so accommodating to our truly unique needs, and hopefully we've found a home for many years to come.
