Description from the owner
The Beach house is beautifully nestled between sand dunes overlooking a stunning beach into the crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi with huge shade trees next to it. The house has four very large en-suite bedrooms, all with twin beds and mosquito nets. It faces southwest with the sun rising in winter at one end of the beach and setting at the other. In summer it rises over the islands of Chizumulu and Likoma, a photographers dream.
A big terrace (khonde) and an open conservatory setting with many plants in eartheware pots offer the very best outdoor life in the tropics.

Beach House, Chintheche, Northern Malawi
Additional Location Information
Beach House is located on the northern shores of Lake Malawi, near the little town of Chintheche, just 2km away on the main lakeshore road between Salima and Mzuzu.
Chintheche is an easy hour's drive from Mzuzu, the northern city of Malawi, on a lovely scenic route winding down the shoulder of the Great Rift Valley, passing banana and rubber plantations, rice paddies, tea and coffee estates. From Lilongwe by road approximately 349km (4 Hrs) via Salima through the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve or by air landing in Chintheche suitable for small aircraft and private charters. Lilongwe International Airport by air is only 30 minutes away.
The Beach House appeals most to those seeking a get-away holiday. There are landline telephones and cellular phone network coverage is good, but no satellite TV, just a well stocked library and plenty games for the family.
Dugouts (local wooden canoes) can be hired as a challenge to those with a well-developed sense of balance, and the gently sloping beach makes launching bigger boats off trailers easy. Swimming of course is a sheer delight with crystal clear waters and no sticky saltiness.
Kande Horse offers riding by the hour on the beaches of nearby Kande or in the woodland rising up to the high and forested Viphya Plateau. A wide selection of pedigree horses to suit all riders is available.
Vizara Rubber Estate is 20km to the north set into tropical rain forest, and there are coffee estates nestling in the folds of the fertile hills above the lake. South of Chintheche are the huge irrigated sugar estates of Dwangwa. Nkhata Bay, 40 km to the North, is one of the few lakeshore ports.
Across the lake, the Island of Likoma boasts a magnificent cathedral from the heyday of the Universities Mission to Central Africa, established through David Livingstone.
Vwaza Game Reserve with its many elephants around Lake Kazuni, makes a lovely excursion inland, while Nyika National Park, on the rolling grasslands of the Nyika Plateau (2500m), is 100km further.
