This house was exactly what it was described as! It's a perfect place for a family (or even two) to stay if they want to be close to the beach! There were some definite stand-out positives...the proximity to the beach, the hot tub, the fleece blankets to snuggle in, the size and layout of the house, the ice maker, the size of the washer and dryer (very large) and two refrigerators. I'd only have a couple of suggestions to make to the owners or property managers...one is to somehow fix the mustiness of the basement, it was slightly overwhelming at times. Two would be to make sure there is a working iron. Three would be to change the blinds in the master bedroom because the first light of day shines right in your eyes and you may not be quite ready to get up. Otherwise, this place is a gem!
affordable and relaxing vacation

This is the 3RD time we have rented ocean dream. It is perfect for my family. Steps from the ocean, great ocean view, big deck, hot tub, minutes from the stores... Totally satisfied. Price is great and all the amenities we need for a week at the beach.

This house is just steps from the beach. It's a true party house. Two fridges, hot tub, Foosball -- just a fun house. Great for the dogs. But don't expect any luxury here. The house has clearly been flooded in the past and has a moldy smell. If you're going to be on the beach anyway, you might not care...but if you're looking for a more upscale property, look some more. Read more

Thank you for your review of Ocean Dream. This home truly is a very fun family-friendly home. . The owners of this home have worked very hard in the off seasons to keep this home in wonderful shape and have done many upgrades. We will report to the owners about investigating the smell and correcting the issue; thank you for bringing that to our attention. Thank you for booking with us and we hope to see you again next year!
Great house for the family!

This house was great! The kitchen was nice and clean which is a pretty big deal when living somewhere for a week. There were lots of games to play during the week incase of bad weather. The hot tub was great. We were there in October so the nights were getting cold but we could relax outside in the hot tub and see the ocean and still be warm. It's so nice being able to walk off the deck and be about 10 steps away from the beach. Overall a very nice house, we would recommend it!
Could be a great property, but it has some major problems

Me and my family have been vacationing in South Nags Head for 30+ years and have stayed at many different homes. This is the first time I have ever written a review of a vacation home, but I felt it was necessary to inform others of some of the problems we had. If I had found this site before booking I would have probably stayed elsewhere.
House had major problems with bugs while we were there. When we first arrived we found several large spiders and dozens of baby spiders on the ground floor. There were also a lot of roaches and crickets on the ground floor level as well as few roaches and lots of ants in the kitchen and bathroom of the main level. We contacted Resort Realty and they came out and sprayed the house within a few hours. We only noticed a couple more spiders the rest of the week, but the problems with the roaches and ants (both dead and alive) persisted throughout the week. No one would really use the ground floor level for the week due to the bugs/spray.
There was a very musty smell throughout the house. We continuously ran the aC and sprayed the house with Febreeze and Lysol which helped with the odor, but there are some major moisture issues in the home.
There was only central aC on the main level, the ground level and top level bedrooms have individual aC units. The ones in the bedrooms on the top floor are a little noisy and struggle to keep the area cool.
The cable/internet was out for the first few days we were there due to a past due balance on the owners account. Had to contact Resort Realty and have them contact the owners to resolve the problem.
I know it's difficult to keep up on the maintenance of a rental beach property, but compared to a lot of the other houses we have stayed in, this one is not kept up very well.
Thank you very much for your feedback on your recent vacation at our property Ocean Dream. Resort Realty does appreciate hearing from our guests, as their comments are vital for us to continue improving our service and our homes. We are sorry your vacation was not as pleasant as it should have been because of the various issues you had during your stay. Your comments were forwarded to the property manager and she will certainly take them into consideration when recommending improvements to the homeowners. Thanks again, and we hope to assist you with your vacation needs again in the future.

Having rented this same house for 28 straight years, there is not much left to be said. The current owners are the best, and they keep the place up nicely. We've already renewed for next year.

I am a person who looks to reviews to help with my decisions; thefore, I felt it necessary to pass along my view. The pros: great locations, layout and plenty of room for a large group. No one ever felt crowded. We had a group of 10 and still had plenty of space for a couple more people. Now the cons: the house was not very clean, not enough space in great room for even a groups of 6 to sit. However, I could over look all this if the house did not have a almost unbearable mold smell. Especially, the game room. It was so bad that once we returned home I had to wash everything in my suit case even though I had not worn them because they smelled of mold. I realize that this may be something out of the owners control due to all the storms but unfortunately, it is truly more of a health issue than anything else. If not for that the home is awesome and we would have rented again, not doubt! If you are not concerned with mold or do not have allergies than this is a great home. Hope this helps and enjoy your stay in OBX...it is truly a wonderful place!

This house is very good in terms of configuration for a family with teens. We loved the bicycles, the play room, and the location. The adults could have peace and quiet while the young ones goof off all night long. The kitchen was nicely functional. The location couldn't be better, and the views spectacular.
Improvements that could be made are solve the terrible moisture problem in the playroom downstairs. The teens didn't spend as much time there as they would like because it was damp and muggy.
My only major complaint about this house was that the outside shower was not enclosed. That was a major bummer because we couldn't keep the sand outside. I always look forward to placing a dress outside near the shower and soap, lotion, and shampoo inside, and when I come in from the beach, get naked and take a nice shower and leave the sand and soggy swimsuit outside and go inside nice and fresh and clean.
Will not return to this property unless the shower is enclosed. If the owners also put a strong dehumidifier downstairs in the play room we would return year after year.
The rental staff are fantastic. We were hoping to find another house to accommodate our needs for next year, but the website doesn't allow us to search for all properties without specifying a date of arrival. (In case we would alter our travel times to the availability of a particular property). We hope to use Resort Realty again but it doesn't look like 2013 is in the cards because we can't find the perfect house. Read more

Thank you for reviewing our property "Ocean Dream". We will be more than happy to pass along your feedback to the owner about seeing what they can do enclose the shower and to address the issue with the downstairs game room. We hope to help you find your perfect vacation home. Please be specific when we ask what you are looking for in a vacation home, and we will do our best to match you up with a house you will enjoy.
A Fine OBX Rental Experience

My family and I (wife, two sons, 3 and 1, and in-laws) stayed in the Ocean Dream rental home in Nags Head (MP 19.7) in august 2012. Overall, we were quite pleased with the experience. It was our first time staying in the Outer Banks. The pictures on the realtor's website were an accurate portrayal of how the house really looked. The house was considered semi-ocean front, but believe me, we were right on the beach, as you can easily see from the pictures. The location was so convenient for our family, with two young kids who needed several breaks from the beach throughout the day. The house had plenty of space to spread out, and while it claims to "sleep 8," you could probably sleep closer to 16 people. My only criticism would be that there was a musty smell throughout the house, especially in the lower level. I'm not sure if that is commonplace for beach rentals. Also, the deck was huge and gave the kids plenty of space to play. The hot tub was a very nice treat; my father-in-law and I took hot soaks every night, while we gazed up at the bright stars in the beautiful OBX night sky, unfettered by light pollution. One thing is certain, OBX won us over and we will return next year.
nice place,nice weather,nice view.

July 4th Vacation
An OK Week at Ocean Dream

When we arrived, the refrigerator was warm. We had to use the downstairs fridge until the next day when the upstairs fridge was cool again. The hot tub was not working properly. The jets would not stay on longer than 1 minute. The upstairs bedrooms never did really cool down. The freestanding air conditioners in each room are way undersized to handle July heat.
On the plus side, the views of the ocean were great, the kitchen is well stocked with basics, the kids really enjoyed the game room, and grill, bicycles, and other amenities were a nice touch. For three families, the house was the right size and in a great location. Read more

Thank you for your time and response on FlipKey. I have checked the work orders for the property you previously rented. The kitchen refrigerator is working properly, and the homeowners are aware of the HVAC system. Resort Realty will also be in touch with the independent hot tub service vendor. We are very sorry you had some concerns and thank you for bringing them to our attention!

On our arrival,we were greeted with 5 bags of trash, occupying one of 2 parking spaces, which attracted many flies and cats! How did the cleaning crew miss this? My 2 dogs were not happy with the cats! And I paid extra for this? The house was old and smelled very musty. The main floor bathroom had no working light the first day.(Luckily we brought a night light!) One light had a wiring problem, the other was a burnt out bulb. No extra bulbs were provided, which is standard in any rental. The only central aC that exists is on the second level. Ac "pods" cooled the individual top floor bedrooms, but you couldn't sleep with all of the noise they made. The upstairs has a musty, urine smell to it. The downstairs game room hadn't been cleaned in some time, which also had a musty smell. A dead spider was found on the downstairs bathroom sink. The furniture is very old and stained. The comforters on most of the beds looked like they were 20 years old. No working clocks anywhere other than the stove clock. The dish washer hadn't been emptied by the cleaning crew and most of the dishes we used had to be cleaned as they were put away dirty. No bowls or containers to store or make anything in. The only positive note was the fantastic view of the ocean. However, we couldn't use the oceanfront deck stairs as the bottom step was completely missing. Dangerous!!! Some of these issues were brought to Resort Realty's attention on our second day, but little was done to compensate us for our inconvience for the money we spent. I spoke directly to a rental manger upon checking out and was told "the owner is working with us to update the property". What good did that do us now? We spent money in good faith, but the pictures of the property do not truly reflect the conditions of the house. All that was offered us was a $125 voucher to use for next year. I doubt if the owner is even aware of the many problems that exist with the cleaning or managing of this property. Renter beware!!! Read more

We are so glad our family rented this home in beautiful Nag's Head. The house is semi-beach front (there's a house partially in front, but you can still see and hear the beach from the deck, and it's barely even a walk to the beach-- don't even bother with your flip flops! Beach was not too crowded, either). House is not too far from restaurants/shops, but it's in a pretty quiet area and the beach is great.
Inside there's plenty of room-- 2 full bedrooms downstairs and 2 full bedrooms upstairs plus a loft area at the top of the stairs with 2 sets of bunk beds and three full bathrooms. We had a few maintenance requests (e.g. extra garbage pickup, and the Resort Realty staff were friendly and responsive which we really appreciated.) Hot tub was a great thing to have. Lots of fridge and freezer space (one fridge upstairs, one in basement.) Toaster, coffee maker, microwave all there, as were basic cookware.
A few "minuses"-
-It's really only "central aC" downstairs-- upstairs has aC units installed in each room which work fine for the most part, but the bathroom was always hot (had to leave the window open), and the loft area was never as cool as we would have liked.
-House was not ready for check-in until after 4 pm.
-"Park grill" is exactly that-- one of those small grills they have in parks, and if there's a breeze it's next to impossible to use. Disappointing-- we were looking forward to lots of grilling!
-Some of the dishes in the house were old and needed to be thrown out.
-Regular garbage pickup is insufficient and there was no recycling pickup, which was very disappointing for this day and age and would have cut back on our garbage significantly.
Overall, we had a great location with stunning beach views, a nice big house with plenty of room for all 8 of us, a kitchen that allowed us to cook in often, and a rental agency that was friendly and responsive to the few requests we did have. Thank you :)
