Lawrenceburg, KyFall family vacation at Dolphin Lookout
Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in October 2012
This well equipped 4 bedroom served our family of five exceptionally. Our late arrival to the Outer Banks was no problem thru prior arrangements with the Seaside rep, and checkout was a breeze. The beachfront location afforded us an unobstructed experience of sand, surf, and beautiful sunrises on the expansive deck, and was centrally located for excursions to Cape Hatteras, Wright Bros Memorial, Bodie Island, Roanoke Island, and Kill Devil Hills State Park as well as shopping and restaurants.

This was the first time that we tried this rental and we were very happy. The weather was perfect and the house was the perfect size and we really enjoyed the location. We decided that from now on this is our favorite place to stay. We always look for something dog friendly and right on the beach. We have a very quiet well mannered old lady dog. It was such an plus to have WiFi also.
There was one thing that I wanted to mention to Seaside Vacations when we left but we left in a hurry because of the storm coming. There was a chair at the desk that had a loose leg when we arrived we noticed that it looked wobbly, so we moved the chair into one of the bedrooms that wasn't being used so that no one would try to sit on it. I think that we forgot to move it back.Response from Seaside Vacations* - 11/20/2012

Mechanicsville, MDDisappointed
Left on 10/11/2012 for a stay in September 2012
I was very disappointed with the condition of this home. It was filthy, the handle on the refrigerator was broken, the smoke detector was broken, there was no gas for the propane grill, and the shower curtain liner was full of mold. My husband had to clean out the shed just to see what was in there. However, I called Seaside Vacations and they promptly addressed all of my concerns. I would rent from Seaside Vacations again but not this home because it is a beach box and gets a lot of abuse. I could have rented a bigger and better home for the same price. The only good thing I can say about this house is that it does have direct beach access and a million dollar view. Despite the disappointment we had a good time.

Loved everything about this beach cottage. The location was great. Our dogs could be off the leash because the beach was not crowded. The cottage was clean and had everything you'd need for the kitchen. No pool, but who needs one with the ocean at your footsteps. Planning on two weeks next year. Calm and serene.

House is right on the beach. Great to sit on the front porch and drink your coffee in the morning while watching the waves. House has an open floor plan with two bedrooms and a bath on each side of the main living area. The two front bedrooms have direct access to the front porch. The porch has a gate so it is nice for pets/children. House has a shed with beach chairs and toys. We had early check in that was even earlier than advertised! This gave us time to get settled and enjoy the beach on our first day there.

West VirginiaGreat Escape!
Left on 07/30/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We loved dolphin lookout! It was the perfect house to come to for our vacation! The view is phenomenal. It was awesome to wake up and see the sunrise over the ocean while sitting on the deck drinking a cup of coffee! We loved the outdoor shower and the hose going up the deck to wash your sandy feet off with. My mom is a bit of a clean freak so she was happy about those things and about the broom and dust pan. The house is small so it is not hard to pick up the sand that does manage to enter the house. If you do not like sand you shouldn't stay at this house because it is in the sand and the driveway is sand but we didn't have any problems with that and thought it added to the ambience of the house. The house was big enough for me and my husband, our twin 20 month olds, our 5 year old, and my parents. We got cribs delivered to the house and set them up in the bunk bed room and they fit nicely in there. We set up a pool on the deck most days for the babies because one of them hates the sand so, this was just perfect since it look out into the ocean. They played in the pool on the deck and mommy still got to layout by the ocean and read her book! The house does get hot. It was 100 degrees and the house got up to 85 even when the temp was set at 50 in attempts to cool it down. We called the rental office and they sent out an air condition man but he said it was normal. They do have fans in the bedrooms that helped but it was still hot and difficult for my older parents and babies to go to sleep at night. It is such a small house it shouldn't be that hard to cool down. Other things that could be improved on was the blind to the main deck door was off, the door to the shed was only on one hinge, the beds were hard, and you might want to bring your own pillow! Overall we had an awesome time at dolphin lookout and can't wait to come back!

Just a note to all of our guests... dropping the AC temperature to 50 is never a good idea. That will cause the unit to freeze and become inoperable. We all frown on that :-)
At the lowest, you can go to 72.
Enjoy!

The Dolphin Lookout is perfectly located for an amazing beach getaway. You can watch dolphins frolic from the comfort of your own balcony and the cottage is in a quieter part of Nags Head but within an easy drive to stores and restaurants. The main area of the house is bright and open and could easily accommodate 8 people and a dog. One bonus that we were not expecting is that the cottage has a shed with really nice beach chairs, a couple umbrellas, and a variety of beach toys. We could not have asked for a better place to spend a week at the beach.

Left on 04/18/2012 for a stay in April 2012
The house is in a great spot and we didn't have any issues with the parking spot being sand, we just parked back a bit from the house so you aren't on the slope and it isn't a problem even for a honda civic. The few things that weren't so great were the cleanliness of the house on check in... we had to spend about 20 minutes at first just making the place liveable. I fully expect there to be sand in a beach house but this was ridiculous, there was more sand on arrival than there was after spending a week with a dog on the beach. There was sand covering the inside of the freezer as well as grease all over the exhaust hood of the stove. There were old bacon bits stuck to the blinds above the kitchen sink, I think that was the most disgusting, well that and the table hadn't been wiped and there was food and crumbs all over it.
Other than the initial cleaning, it was a great week. I would suggest bringing your own sheets and blankets. The fitted sheets clearly weren't made for the size bed they were put on and every time you moved or got up, they came off the bed. The blankets weren't very nice or fit the bed either.
The weather wasn't great but we had an amazing time. The beach was beautiful, the deck is a great place to sit out on and have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
I would absolutely stay here again, I'd just be more prepared to clean and I'd bring my own sheets.Response from Seaside Vacations* - 04/19/2012

Left on 11/09/2011 for a stay in November 2011
The house was clean and welcoming upon our arrival. It does sit very close to the ocean and the driveway is sand. On several days of our stay the surf and winds were a significant challenge and did drive waves/foam up under the house and along 2 sides of the home. We were unable to access the beach from the house on those days. We would recommend taking something to cover your vehicle-ours was covered in a thick layer of sandy foam. The house does sway in the the high winds-for us it was an adventure but folks with small children may find this a bit of a challenge. The front deck does have a gate and comfortable chairs/picnic table. It is a dog friendly home and the gated porch was a bonus for our canine companions. It is centrally located for visiting Jockey's Ridge/Wright Memorial/Hatteras Seashore.

I was a little dissappointed when we got there for early check-in. And was not able to get into the house, It was pouring down rain and we had to sit in our car till they got done cleaning. and the when we got in the house had some issues. still dirty, plug toilet, not enough sheets and towels for all of us. the kitchen needs some non stick pans to cook on. over all we got the house because the price was great for the great views of the ocean..It was so nice to sleep with the sounds of the surf, our ocean front bedroom.

The house was nice, loved the floor plan. The deck was wonderful, we brought our dogs and the gate was great for them and the grandchildren. There were several things that needed to be attended to, the gas grill, two chairs were broken, a pull on the dresser was off completely, the ceiling fans were very dusty (we actually cleaned one ourselves and the air conditioner filter needed replacing very badly.

Left on 09/22/2011 for a stay in August 2011
this cheerful ocean front cottage is on a wonderful, wide beach with a deck overlooking the ocean that can be accessed from the family room or either of the larger bedrooms. it is an ideal house for one family needing four bedrooms but would be a tight fit for two families with kids because there is just the one shared family room/kitchen aside from the four bedrooms. it is sandy as other reviewers mention due to the sand driveway, but isn't that how a beach house should be? this isn't the house for you if you prefer luxury, elevators and hot tubs, but if your main draw is the beach and you just want a comfortable place for meals and sleep, this is the perfect cottage on an awesome stretch of beach!

Very nice house, bright and sunny, clean, and had everything you need for a week. A shed was a great place to store chairs, umbrellas, etc. and even had some sand toys left behind for the kids. Right on the beach, although the water is much further out now with the beach renourishment project. My only complaint is the queen mattress in the bedroom we stayed in was so unbelievably hard and uncomfortable it was difficult to get a good night's sleep. Both my husband and I woke repeatedly during the night. Tried the other mattresses and they were fine, but this one really needs to be replaced.

A gorgeous view, fantastic location, and comfortable house await you here! Although a bit too small for our extended family of 17 (during the days only), it was a very nice house. Very clean and well kept, overall.
Lots of silverware and dishes, many comfortable beds (unusual in OBX), great back deck, lots of parking, wonderful outside shower and storage shed. Had problems figuring out how to lock the back French doors, but finally discovered directions on the side. Somehow the real estate company gave us one set of keys that did not work, so we were locked out one evening until someone else in our party arrived.
We had a great week! During high tide, the water comes up under the house. This will probably be changed after the beach nourishment project is finished.
Great house in a fantastic location! -

The house has priceless views of the ocean which justify the cost of staying here. We all enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the waves roll in, especically our mini-long hair dachshund "rocky" who had a great time checking out the dogs and ocean waves.
It was great to be able to walk down a flight of steps directly to the beach. The house is cozy and comfortable and it's great that it is one floor.

The only thing I would have to complain about is the driveway. Since it's sand and not blacktop or cement our vehicle sank and got stuck once because of some rain. Also it caused my car to be filled with sand. Otherwise was a very nice and well kep house. The outside shower and spray house was an awesome idea and cut down on a lot of sand in the house.
