  We had a wonderful week in this oceanfront beach house. It is your typical, old-fashioned beach house with no frills. But it was exactly what we were looking for. You cannot beat the oceanfront location. It was great to be able to just walk a few steps and be right at the water's edge. The whole rear of the house has sliding glass doors that looks right out to the ocean. The two evenings when it rained we were still able to enjoy the ocean views from inside. And the two level decks were wonderful to enjoy our coffee on in the mornings. It doesn't get better than that! Also, the owners were wonderful people to deal with. And check in and out was a breeze!

  Fantastic location for a great price

  Obviously a bit of a fixer upper of a house, but there was no illusion that this was a five star from the beginning. My group had a fantastic stay and would definitely come back given the opportunity. There were a few minor road bumps - the house did get very shaky occasionally (after having stayed in the obx for years, I know this is common for beach houses), the house did have a bit of a musty smell to it upon arrival (which opening the windows up to enjoy the great ocean breeze immediately fixed), and a couple really small things like doors catching and some of the window catches being broken. But for the most part, the positives definitely outweighed the negatives. Check in and out were a breeze, there was great communication with the owner, especially when we had questions, the location is absolutely amazing (the best I've ever had), and the size was great for my group of 7. If you want to be super nitpicky, then pay the extra $1000+ for a better house, but for the price, the location, and the ease of booking this house, I would absolutely recommend it.

  Outdated filthy place with a view and location

  Upon our arrival on Saturday, when we first went in, the odor of dogs and filth catches your attention right away. This place was supposedly cleaned prior to our arrival, there was no evidence of that; carpet had white dog hair everywhere on it, in clumps, dust on top of all lamps, and ceiling fans, furniture was wore out with same hair and dirt on it, all the mattresses on the beds were wore out, under beds had filth from years of never being moved all the dressers in bedrooms had broken drawers, could not use them. Had 4 televisions all outdated with only 2 that worked, no phone that worked, 3 smoke detectors, only one that worked, kitchen so dirty that we did not cook there our entire stay ,saw several cockroaches running up and down kitchen walls every day, there were several times during the day when you were sitting inside that the whole place began shaking like it was going to fall Down- very noticeable on 2ND level. Several places on the decks looked to be unsafe and rotted, stepped on several boards with cracking noises underfoot, all metal inside the home was rusted or corroded, all the windows were dirty and the blinds they had on them fell out of the holders when you went to close them because of not being the right size, two of them fell on my wife's feet.

  It was evident from the 6 emails prior to arrival that the guest was
  worried about many things, 'were there shells on the beach' etc. The
  house has been enjoyed by returning guests every year. When the
  renters left each day, newspapers were pasted over all the windows and front door window as if they were afraid someone might peek in?
  very strange behavior. The cleaner was brought back to go over any
  issues they might have...one was that the lamp didn't have a 3-way
  bulb to it in a bedroom...there is no way to satisfy someone looking
  for problems and a free week.
