The house exceeded my expectations! Everything is very modern and new, easily can accomodate 3 couples and some kids even though there were only 4 of us. It is shaded in the front, sides and back by trees giving you privacy and is staggered from other houses so noisy or obnoxious neighbors won't be a problem. Pool and hot tub areas are great, the kitchen is spacious and has an island with cutting board surface making meal prep easy. Whole house sound system as well as speakers by the pool area. The house is right on the corner, when pulling into hollowell you will probably miss the entrance since it is so close. Less than 5 min walk to beach access and parking lot on Hollowell so we never had to drive to the beach. The Jockey Ridge state park right across the street and you are in the middle of everything (restaurants, grocery stores, etc.). There are two food lions on either end of highway 5 min away as well as drive thru beer stores. Cons - directly next to highway so a little noisy but not unbearable. The grill was the most negative thing that comes to mind, i wanted to chuck it into the pool. Expect charred hamburgers and ruined steaks if you don't keep an eye on it. Tips/Advice - If you want to fish go to Tw's tackles and bait on Croatan Highway 5 min away. Restaurants - Tortuga's Lie (go after 7:30pm for a short wait) Outer Banks Brewing Station (Best restaurant/grille in the area do not miss this place if you enjoy good beer and food...easily the best meal i had in a while). Places to watch NFL football...Lucky 12 tavern (steeler bar get there at least 2 hours before game) Barefoot bernie's (steeler bar get there 2 hours before game) BK Shuckers (same thing...horrible service but excellent food and beer). General consensus is your service will be what you expect on vacation, slow but the food will be very good.
High Dune Family Vacation 2013

Very nice house, fabulous decor inside the house, great kitchen with large butcher block island. Great layout. Very private location although neighbors were next door. Direct beach access at the end of the road. Upstairs balcony looks over the main highway which didn't provide a great view. Pool area had lots of shade at all times of the day (bad in case you want full sun). Deadbolt to the hot tub and pool area was broken which caused concern with young kids. Overall great house
Nice Stay at High Dune
Left on 08/12/2013 for a stay in August 2013 | Family Vacation
My family and I stayed at High Dune the first week of august. The house itself was beautiful and in overall good condition. The house looks just like it does in the pictures provided on this website. The landscaping was lush and you'd hardly know it was on the highway by looking at it. Just as in our own homes, there were a few minor issues with the property such as a few light bulbs being out, a socket for the toaster not working, and the sliding door out of the kitchen being sticky, but these were all minor inconveniences. The home was extremely child friendly. There were child gates, a child booster seat, and a high chair at the home. All of the sockets had child guards on them too! The main floor had a wonderful living space that was able to easily accommodate the nine adults and two toddlers staying at the home.
The bedrooms were nicely decorated. The king bedroom that shared the Jack and Jill bathroom with the twin room was a little warmer than the other two rooms. Plus you could hear the traffic from the road pretty clearly from that room. However, you could not hear the traffic from the other rooms.
The kitchen was very nice and stocked with most of the necessities to cook dinner. The covered porch off the kitchen was wonderful. Everyone spent the evenings talking and feeling the cool breeze that would blow through. We utilized the pool on a daily basis and it was a nice spot for the children to swim and the adults to sit in the shade and read outside. We saw the pool maintenance man once, but the pool was starting to get dirty by the end of our visit and could have used a vacuuming.
The home is in a great location. This was our first time in the area and Nags Head was a wonderful spot for everyone. The home is right across the street from Jockey Ridge and close to Bodie Island lighthouse and the Wright Brothers museum. There was amble shopping nearby and plenty of good restaurants.
The beach is a short two block walk.

We are not foodies or high-falutin' people by any means. This house was the most expensive we have ever rented at the OBX and it was equipped like the cheaper condos we have stayed at and maintained worse.
The location was very convenient to the beach and the neighborhood was nice. The noise from the bypass is loud, though. My wife thought the house was nicely decorated.
However, there were many items that needed repair and the kitchen was lacking many items. The handle for the front door on the second level was all but falling off. The sliding doors were sticking so bad that our housemate went and bought Wd40 to fix them. Our friends bed broke the first night (maintenance came right out and fixed it the next day). Only one set of jets was working in the hot tub.
I don't know who's idea of a gourmet kitchen that was but it is not gourmet by a long shot. The pans and utensils are cheap and limited. There is only one good knife, which was okay because there were not many cutting boards. The blender was broken. The grill is in horrible shape and way too small for a five bedroom house. I won't get into the cable and wifi going out a few times since that is probably the cable companies fault but I was not happy with this house. Read more

This house was great and we will consider renting here again. We had a few issues, but rental company was great and quick respond. When we checked in the Fridge was warm, and the freezer was cool. We put stuff in the freezer and stuff in the fridge, left it shut for 3 hrs, it didnt cool so we called at 10PM on a Sa night to the rental compnay, someone show up in 30 mins to our door. He was very professional and give us the good and bad news. Bad news, the motor to the fridge was broke, good news, it would be replaced by noon the next day. The 3rd party crew to come out and fix the fridge on Sunday was a little slower than the rental company is used to, but by 3PM on Sunday we had a working fridge. It never get super cold, but it was cold enough to make due for a few days. The good news is there is a mini fridge in the downstairs area that we used for milk, and other things that we wanted to keep super cold.
We had rain the first 3 days and the hot tub got some good use with it being covered.
The pool was nice, with a tree hanging over the fence it offered some nice shade if you wanted it, but plenty of sunlight to enjoy as well. The seats in the pool were very nice as well.
Walk to beach is great and super easy. I wanted a house on the beach and compromised with the family with this house and we were not disappointed. The street to the beach was not crowded with traffic, even with it being at a traffic light and across the street from Jockey's Ridge entrance.
The beach wasn't too crowded in this area either.
It's in great walking distance to an ice cream shop, Kitty Hawk Kites, Brew-Thur. Most of these are at Mile post 12.5.
We had 7 adults and 1 infant. 3 Married couples, 1 single adult, and 1 11 month old. The rooms were great for this family. My husband and I took the top right room with the blue dresser and a king bed that shared a bathroom with a twin room and it was perfect for me to put my son in the pack n play in the twin room.
we had a great time

The house was in a great location-close to everything. A garbage disposal would have been good but other than that everything we needed was there. My only issue was I was told when checking in that the house wasn't ready but I had paid for the early check-in. When they checked i was told the house was ready but the inspector ahdn't been through yet and when she came I should let her in. She never came while we were there and I don't think she was through because we found the dusting spray and rags sitting out. Other than that we had a great time and will be back again sometime.

What a beautiful home. it had everything we needed to enjoy a fabulous vacation. Our family enjoyed every second. The pool was wonderful and our kids loved the hot tub. Was a nice walk to the beach and was a nice area to take a walk in and enjoy the scenery.
Nice House, Few minor issues, Good Rental company.

This was our first time at High Dune and it was spacious and comfortable for 7 adults and 4 young kids. The layout was nice and house was clean and kid friendly. We were not impressed with the linen's provided and they smelled of Bleach. It is close to the beach and has direct beach access. Very close to the highway and we could hear the traffic in some rooms.
We had several small issues during our stay at the house:
1) The audio visual experience in the house needs a major over haul. The Tv's were old Box Tv's with no remote. The sound did dot work while playing the Dvd's.
2) Some Light bulbs were out.
3) Some doors did not work properly.
4) The BBQ Grill by the pool was in awful condition.
5) The a/C in the main level broke.
6) Internet connection is very patchy
But, the Good news is the rental company (Resort Realty)was very responsive, they fixed most of the issues stated above (minus the TV and DVD issue) in a reasonable timeframe. They even threw the old Grill out and installed a brand new Grill within a few hours after we complained. Same with the a/C, a maintenance person came to the house even though it was after business hours to fix the a/C.
Overall, we had a good time. Thanks for allowing us to stay at the property. Read more

House is pretty and a nice size for a family and a few friends. Having the pool was great and made for easy swimming fun. Beach is very close. House is right next to the Highway so there is some traffic noise, especially noticable by the pool. There were several small issues, that did impact our stay -- no remote for the television, the sound system did not work when playing Dvds so no family movie nights. Lights were out and some doors did not work properly. Rental company did not respond to our message about needing help. We will return to Nags Head, but maybe not this same house or same rental company. Read more

This was out 2nd year at High Dunes but this year there were quite a few problems. I burned my hand badly because if the oven is on, the gas flame is open to the drawer under the oven and pans in that drawer are hot hot! Freezer shelves all broken and ice maker dumped the ice to the bottom of freezer. Pool lights all burned out, DVD players not working, housekeeping not great, just overall disappointed. Read more

Thank you for your review. We're very sorry you hurt your hand on the oven. The freezer shelf has been fixed now, but we apologize we could not get the part in time for your stay. The pool lights were changed out as well. We are sorry for your overall disapointment. Thank you for booking with Resort Realty and hope your next visit to the Outer Banks will be more pleasant.

House was very spacious and very comfortable. Bit of a hike to the beach carrying all of out stuff - sand toys, etc. I rented 2 sand buggies before leaving home but the steps to the beach were so steep, the buggies were no help. And then we got evacuated. Of course none of this was the house's fault. The only thing I would make a suggestion for wrt the house is to maybe have some bigger pans added to the kitchen.
Wonderful first family vacation!

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean and well stocked with dishes and cookware. The home had awesome extras for $$. Home was close to the beach was able to ride bikes straight down the street or walk. Unfortunately the home was the first house by the road and traffic was loud, the trees around the home provided complete privacy from road. Pool was clean and awesome. Grill was kinda dirty and covered with spider webs...didn't use anyway. Service from the realty company was great I called several times with questions and was always answered...check in awesome...check out awesome. Would definetly use resort realty again...would consider spending more for home not close to main road. Thanks for great vacation!

This is a great location and a great house. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the house. We had been staying with another rental company and over the years they have let the cleanliness part go,
It was enjoyable, except for the pool!

We had a good time. The exception would be the pool and hot tub. We were disgusted by the pool. It was dirty, a dead frog was in it, the water wasn't clean and the hot tub also had different things floating in it. We didn't see anyone clean during the week and it was that much worse by week's end.
great house..noisy road

High Dune is a lovely home on a VERY noisy road...and we were not aware of that, or we would have chosen a different home..The a/c on main level didn't work and your company responded immediately...you get an a+ there, but we feel the noise was a big negative ..such a shame for a beautiful house. Also, someone needs to turn the mattress in the upstairs bed over..very hard because the pillowtop was turned on the bottom!
Best was the pool and hot tub..least was the road noise.
top notch rental

We loved this house. The furniture was so comfortable and enough for a large group. It was delightful to use a ktchen stocked by a cooking family with all the utensils/pots/pans needed to prepare meals. The kids used the pool and hot tub lots. House at a great location for shopping, bike riding on new paths, restaurants, kite flying, beach only a block away. Best floor plan of any rental we have ever used. Top notch in every way.Air conditioner fan not working quite right was only negative. Only suggestion would be to wire for Internet access. :>)We had two business people with us that needed an Internet connection.

The service provides by Resort Realty was Southern Hospitality at it's finest.
The home was in great condition and our family really enjoyed the private pool and large florr plan.
The house was in a great location to the beach, area attractions, Jockey's Ridge State Park, and shopping!
However, the house was on a busy street corner, where the traffic was heard non-stop. But, the landscaping lessened the noise a bit. Thanks again for a great rental on our first trip to Outer Banks!
