We enjoyed our stay at Makin Memories. We were very happy with the location. It was easy to get down the stairs to the beach. The deck is great to sit on with the dog and watch the waves. Glad to have the doggie gate. Happy to see that there was a table to eat at. Was disappointed that the tv remote did not work even when we changed the batteries. Owners might want the upgrade the tv to a flat screen. Overall a place I would consider returning to.

Fabulous location right on the beach! Wonderful view of the ocean! It was so nice to sip our morning coffee on the deck looking over the beach while watching the waves roll in. How convenient to just walk down the stairs to be on the beach. Can't ask for much more!

My friend and I loved the cottage; location couldn't have been better. However, we felt the cottage wasn't really "open for business". We had total of 2 thin bars of soap for the week, 2 rolls of toilet paper, the door was difficult to manage in the wind and in the dark when we arrived. We didn't discover the heating thermostat for 24 hrs because it is behind the bath room door which we left open. We nearly froze our first night. The blanket was so thin, it was useless. Maybe warmer blankets for that time of year? The windows were so dirty we couldn't see the wonderful view! No recycle bin available. Washer & dryer most helpful but that room covered in sand. We did enjoy our week. We were so lucky w/ the weather! I wish you would have told us to bring our own supplies if you aren't going to provide adequate paper products etc. I have also never had to strip the beds before leaving!

The service provided was good--the rental process was smooth and the agent helpful. When we arrived and couldn't open the door, the maintenance folks were very helpful (and finally got us in).
The property, itself, was another story. It was clean and in good repair but really overpriced. The ocean front location was, of course, nice (and one of the reasons we chose it). Amenities were, however, few and far between. The space allocated for eating was pitiful. The heating system was extraordinarily loud and off/on continuously. (This was mostly a nighttime problem as the daytime sun seemed to take over when the sun was out.) Neither of us got a really good night's sleep all week and the pleasure of hearing the surf at night pretty much didn't happen.

Cute little house perfect for a couple. Shows some need of fixin' with sloped floors in the bedroom/bath. Kitchen is way cramped but then again, you'll be spending all your time on the deck or on the sand.
Oh...and clean the windows...the awesome view demands it! -

House was not as pictured online. Sand was full of crabs, house was overgrown with brush. Bedroom room was very unlevel leaning downward. Beds were as hard as rocks. Much smaller than it appeared online. Not very clean. Washer and dryer were abyssmal.

The house was in a good location. Check in and check out was great. The house was a good size for two people. Wish it would have had a little more parking. We had brought the motorcycle on a trailer. Had a little trouble parking it so we could get the bike in and out of it and be out of our neighbors way. Access to the beach was great. Wished that the windows would have opened so you could have had fresh air in the house.

From reading the homepage, we were expecting a well maintained house. What we met was a mess. Carpet and curtains in one bedroom dirty and spotty, shower curtain moldy, closets in the bathrooms rosty, the charcoil grill outside not usable, the room below with dryer and washing machine had mold on its walls. The machines were rosty. The beds in the second bedroom were rather short, the windows were partly fogged with poor vision. Seaside vacations admitted that "The condition of the house and the service you received is not customary of Seaside Vacations." and gave a compensation of about 10% of what we had paid.Yet, this is in no relation to our incenveniences and troubles. It could had been such a wonderful vacation because of the great location (beautiful beach, dolphins passing by...) but inside the house there was no fun.

Double bed box springs needs to be replaced. It squeaks loudly when you sit on it.
There is no kitchen table. House is small, but there is room for a "card table" size table, inlieu of the foldout Ikea contraption presently there. The stools are uncomfortable and rickety. Please provide a better table as we have already signed up for next year.
The location is wonderful. Seaside Vacations is very responsive. I'm anxious to see how the table issue will be resolved.

Overall, the return visit to Making Memories was wonderful. The passage of storm Beryl did reveal some roof problems, as there was a leak across the living room. Some work needs to be done on the front door which is difficult at times to open. There needs to be some work on the washer and dryer area downstairs. The remote for the TV had a few functions that did not work.However,the view and the quiet location were a blessing.

Rental agents were great to work with. The rental location was great. The rental itself was below our expectations. We wouldn't rent this home again. Other homes we have rented in the past were much better. The home needs updating.

This is our 9th year at this house. The location could not be better. Walk off the deck on to the sand and into the water. Sit on deck and enjoy the dolphins. Sooo relaxing. This year Keyless entry made it easier...no key to keep track of

We brought our 4 year old for our first trip to the beach as a family and it couldn't have been more perfect for us. It is in the more residential part of Nags Head so it is quiet and more private. We went in Mid Sept so it was perfect weather and not as crowded. All you have to do is walk down the stairs and you are on the beach. This was great when my son needed a nap or to go in and eat lunch. We watched the dolphins swim by in the early a.m. and evening. The sundrises are spectacular! It is tiny, so I think 6 would be pushing it, but for 3-4 people it would be perfect. The washer and dryer is under the house and a little rough but it was wonderful to have to wash beach towels and to not have to bring all dirty clothes back home. It is near lots of restaurants and shopping by car but it is very private and quiet. The tall deck chairs were perfect for viewing the ocean and reading a book on the deck. It has lots of cabinets in the kitchen and plenty of pots and pans and baking dishes to cook your meals. It was really cute and beachy and we were quite comfortable and though it was small, you didn't feel like it when you were inside. Having 2 bathrooms was a plus! The views from the living room were great! Most of the places we looked at were much bigger and I don't think we could have found a more suitable place for the 3 of us on the beach and we would come back in a heartbeat!

The location of the house was its best feature. The laundry area was unacceptable. There was not a functional light, the door stuck and the area was dirty and the floor uneven and unsafe. The bathrooms were not well kept. The masterbath shower curtain would cling to you as you tried to shower. The kitchen counter was very small for a family of 4 to eat around.

first timer to the outer banks

Loved the location--that could not have been better. Quite a few maintenance issues with the house. The outside deck is very unsafe! Multiple railings/posts are not fully attached-making this a very dangerous place for kids and pets. I am surprised you are allowed to rent it in this state. A few other issues that were annoying--when I attempted to do laundry the dryer did not dry the clothes. The handle for hot water in the shower fell off numerous times as well. The vaccuum was in a terrible state--it looked like the bag had not been changed in a while and it had fallen off and tons of sand and dirt had accumulated in the bottom. Being on the beach with kids and dog--a vaccuum is a must. And I don't want to have to do maintenance while on vacation. I should not have to call and schedule an appointment to get things fixed when on vacation either. Finally the beach restoration process--while we understand the need. It was very annoying to hear the beep beep of the bulldozers 24/7. The house was shaking on our last two nights. And the beach was closed in front of the house our last full day on the beach. We rented an oceanfront home specifically so we did not have to carry our beach gear a long way. We paid full price for a week stay on the beach and our last 2 days were not available. Some compensation would have been nice--instead of an email asking that we understand and telling us it would only be an inconvenience for a day. We will definitely return to the outer banks but won't stay here.

My first criteria was "dog friendly," then "right on the beach." It met both, and was everything I hoped for. I treated my daughter, granddaughter and our dogs to a wonderful week, and loved every minute of it. It was the perfect size for three people, but I think six would be pushing it a little.

check in at 4:05 pm is unacceptable for folks who are traveling with animals and a car full of supplies. service agents were rude and dismissive. I like this house and neighborhood but doubt that I will rent from this agency again. given the price paid per week the value is just not there.

This is a pretty house right above the beach, quiet and peaceful. It was quite adequate for our small family and dog. None of us wanted to leave. We would be glad to come back again. The only issue we would see needing attention is the long stairs up from the parking lot. They are hard to climb after dark.

This stay was our second at Makin' Memories, so we knew what to expect. The ocean view was again spectacular, and the new deck chairs (high, wooden) were terrific. We also liked the new check-in process that uses a keyless entry -- we never had to worry about misplacing the key and we never had to visit the rental office. A great vacation!

Overall Makin Memories, did indeed do that. We enjoyed the location, the view of the ocean and the easy access to the beach. The cost for a four day stay was quite reasonable for the Thanksgiving weekend.
The only major dissappointment was the door, both the basically destroyed screen door, with the protruding nails on the inside, and entry door. We had to shove it open with our shoulders to get it too open, The interior doorframe is splintering, too. The stick up light that would have illuminated the key pad had burned out batteries, and if hadn't had our own flashlights handy or used our cellphones, it would have been impossible to get in the door, as we arrived after dark. Also, at least two of the windows facing the beach have fogged pretty badly, obscuring the view, that is the selling point of the house.
Also, as the house is one of the few properties without a dishwasher, it would have been a nice to remind renters about that. The maid conveniently left us a tab of dishwasher soap in the bag with paper towels and toilet paper, and Seaside Maintenance or Housekeeping did get us a bottle of dishsoap. A list of items that renters should plan to bring on their own, like coffee filters, and shampoo would be a good touch, too.Response from Seaside Vacations* - 12/16/2010

Nice neighborhood. Needs outside lights on the porch the keyless entry at night was difficult to use. House was a little small. Shower curtains kept sticking to us while showering. should replace with doors instead. Loved the deck furniture!! Overall, a nice house, good for a small family. Weather was nice in the fall!

we had a great week. Perfect weather and a really good location. Fabulous dog friendly house that was just the right size for us all. The washing machine broke a couple of days into the vacation and it was fixed by the following day which was a real surprise and extremely welcome as we didn't bring much with us and have a two year old to boot. Would definitely rent from your company again. The one drawback was that the second bathroom didn't have hot water and the master bathroom smelt really bad for a day or two.

The house has a great location directly on the beach, and is beautifully designed. It was pretty clean when we arrived. Our only disappointment was disgusting living room furniture. We called to ask if maintenance might just stop by and staple together a torn couch back (the first thing we'd see when walking into the house), but got no reply.

We enjoyed our stay. The location and view of the beach/sunrise was excellent.
However the house needs to be upgraded. Some of the furniture was torn. There were stain son the furniture. We had to have housekeeping come and clean the sofa bed in the living room. It had food and other items in it.
There was a little mishap with the check-in. We got to the office in Nags Head and found out the rental office had closed and moved to Kitty Hawk. The sales rep- Mike G (greek sounding last name) was extremely helpful. He called the rental office and got us the key number. Then he provided us with directions and a detailed map of the Outer Banks. We were very grateful for his time and effort.Response from Seaside Vacations* - 08/05/2010

Makin Memories was overpriced we thought but it is rented constantly so maybe not! It is very small but with all the windows the two of us loved it. The deck is almost right over the water at high tide. Because it is not "fancy" we felt very relaxed. No need of a dishwasher but thankful for the washer and dryer.

The people at Seaside were wonderfully accomodating, and all of our needs were met. This property is right on the beach, and during high tide, the waves break within feet of the steps. If you are looking for privacy and one miracle of nature after another, this is the place! Fabulous!!!

This was my first time renting with Seaside vacations but I have been coming down at least once a year for the past 30 years. My representative, Donna, was very friendly & helpful & I liked the "live chat" feature on your website.
With that being said, once we arrived things went downhill ... the information that was emailed to me included the address of your Nags Head office but when we arrived no keys were waiting (this was an after hours check-in). So, thankfully a stranger suggested that my husband go to the Kitty Hawk office so back down the beach he goes & the keys were there. In the meantime, I called your emergency number & left a message (before I knew where the keys were) that was 6:30pm. I decided to see how long it would take for someone to call me back & I received a callback at 12:30AM the next morning. If we had not been able to find the keys, I would have been past irate that that point.
Then the house ... it was dark when we arrived & there were NO outside lights that were working. They did not work all weekend (yes all switches were on and I checked the breaker box as well) one bulb of one floodlight worked randomly but not very often. It was very dark & we rented this cottage because we could bring our dogs so we had to feel around in the pitch black dark not being familiar with the surrounding until the next morning. I fell trying to get in on the first night & am still bruised from ankle to knee on both legs. It was very cold this past weekend & the heat worked OK but it was VERY cold at night. It would never shut off overnight when the thermostat was set on 68.

Location! Location! Location! Makin' Memories is an ideal location if you are a beach lover. The home was perfect for the two of us and my two dogs. Though advertised for more, it would have been crowded if there were others. My dogs don't shed, so the extra dog hair was left from previous vacationers. It could have been cleaned better prior to our arrival. Dish towels were stained and probably should have been thrown away and replace. Recycling would have been a nice perc because we had a lot of plastic water jugs and glass. Beds were less than comfortable, but adequate. Same with furniture in living room. But, you can't beat the location. Enjoyed the beach and the weather. Customer service on check in could be improved. We traveled and needed extra TLC. Check-in with dogs needs to be earlier since it is difficult to occupy oneself with dogs. But, I do appreciate the pet-friendly attitude. It is my priority in traveling.

The house was great for myself, husband, and pomeranian. Our only complaint was the size of the bathrooms. There are 2 full baths but it would be perfect with just one full bath of a nice size. Other than that we loved our stay! The views from the living room were amazing!! And our pomeranian loved his nightly walks on the beach! We are planning a trip to OBX again next year but will be traveling with 2 more adults and feel that this particular home would be a little small for 4 adults. The next time the two of us visit we will likely stay here again. :)

I love all my stays at this house. This was my 2nd stay & will be back in June 2009. Plan to stay twice a year.You can watch the sun rise right from the couch in April & they are so beautiful.I have taken 4 of my 7 children so far & they were pleasantly surprised. I like to think of it as my little spot of paradise! My dog loves running on the beach, it's nice to have a place he's as welcome as I am. The only thing I would like to see change is a light out side the door but that sure won't stop me from going back as long as I can. CAN'T WAIT TIL JUNE, Mary

The property, generally speaking, was ok. There were several issues of which I brought to the attention of Seaside, but they were not corrected. (Example: bathroom sink would not drain and when they came, they looked at the wrong bathroom.)
The price for this property, at the end of February, was too high.
I doubt that I will plan a vacation over the internet again. I think I will want to talk to someone. -

This was the perfect house for a few days of beach time. Sitting on the living room couch looking out toward the ocean makes you feel like you are encircled by the sea since that's all you see. It was very quiet and comfortable as well as clean. My only recommendation is that if you choose to check in after dark, bring a flashlight since there is no light by the front door, and it is extremely difficult to find the key hole without some sort of light!

A "spooky" house when we arrived in the dark. But once we got settled in, the experience was terrific. Waves beneath the deck at high tide; direct access to the beach - hey the house is directly on the beach! Our dog experienced her first trip to the beach and became a beach bum!
Highly recommend this place during off season but over priced during prime season. -

Spectacular views of the ocean, but not the best amenities inside. Furniture is uncomfortable and the mattresses really need to be replaced for a good night's rest. Probably great for a young couple who spends most of the time on the beach, but not compatible for the older couple who are used to creature comforts.

We rode out the tropical storm. The experience was awesome. The property has fantastic views and access to beach couldn't be easier, walk out the door, down the steps and you are on the beach.The only negatives about this property are the lack of comfortable seating and lighting could be better for reading. But all in all we love this place and have been coming here for several years.
