Our family enjoyed staying at Defense Rests this april. The hot tub was a big hit with everyone. This house is spacious and is furnished nicely. I would recommend staying here.

Service was very good not only from the realtor but also from maintenance, house cleaning and pool/hot-tub personnel.
We really liked the home, the pool, its proximity to the beach, and the amenities it provided - close to shopping and restaurants, keyless entry. We didn't like the fact that it was so close to the main highway, that some of the chairs by the pool were broken, that some of the towels provided had hair in them, that some of the light bulbs were burned out, that some of the door handles were very hard to turn if they could be turned at all, that the King bed on the 3rd level didn't have sheets on it at first, that some pillows didn't have pillow cases, some pillows were very hard, that we didn't know the trash pick-up schedule, and that the outside shower was not working until maintenance came. -

This house was really big, and we loved the layout with the master bedroom upstairs. We did have some problems though. For example, our second day there, all of the hot water leaked out of the hot tub, and because of Thanksgiving Day, it took a good while for the problem to be fixed. Someone had to actually glue the pump back into place. Also, there weren't any rollers on the dishwasher, and there weren't very many trash cans throughout the house. For instance, there wasn't one trash can downstairs where the footsball (sp) table, washer/dryer and 1/2 bath were. Also, the upstairs master bath was "sunken" in the standing spot, like it was sinking into the floor. Additionally, it was a jetted bath, but it wasn't clean enough to use the jets. Whenever we turned them on, there was a black residue. This is a great house, but it could use some upkeep. On a positive note, the kitchen was wonderful, and all of the beds were comfortable. I don't think I would stay here again. As a regular vacationer to Nags Head, it's so often the little touches that make a house special/unique. This house lacked those touches. Oh, one great thing about the house was that you could see the sunrise and sunset. That was amazing.

We really enjoyed staying at Defense Rests. It was a beautiful home and very well maintained. The only reason we gave it a "4" star for cleanliness was because the carpets could use some cleaning. They weren't terrible. Just some areas that had noticeable spots. Otherwise, it was a great location and just a great place all around. Also, I must mention how wonderful the Seaside staff was in getting out the information for the rentals immediately after Hurricane Irene came through. It was a very impressive response time!

This was our second year in a row renting through Seaside and this home exceeded our expectations. We stayed with 6 adults and 2 small children and the home was perfect for us. It was exceptionally clean and well maintained. The house is located just a short walk to the beach and is near many restaurants, shopping and recreational activities. My only recommendation would be to improve the bedding (it is broken down and very soft) and to add some more utensils (only enough for one meal). We would absolutely stay at Defense Rests again and look forward to our next trip to OBX. Thanks Seaside for a great vacation.

The house was not clean, kitchen supplies (dishes/silverware)were not adequate. Only 3 coffee mugs were available, only 2 teaspoons were available, only 2 wineglasses were available. We had to buy what was not available and left most of it behind.

We were there with 8 people (3 of which were children) and 2 dogs and we really had a great vacation. The location was so perfect since we were only a block from beach access and across the main street was go carts and mini golf. Less than a mile away we rented jet skis and also did the dolphin tour. The pool was perfect as well as the hot tub. I especially liked the fact that the game room was not carpeted so it was perfect for keeping the dogs there overnight. The only suggestion I have would be to add more living room furniture. There was only one couch and a chair so with 5 adults it wasn't very easy for us all to be together in the living room. We would absolutely return to this house!

This house was perfect for our family, we have two kids and a dog. the house was decorated nicely and very clean. It had a great back yard with a nice p[ool and hot tub ( which came in handy sinec the weather wasnt warm enough for the beach) the house also had board games, movies and books. We would definately go back!

The set up of the house was nice. The beach access nearby had a shower, lifeguard,
and port a potty. The pool area and hot tub were nice. They had a nice selection of
DVD movies and board games. I would bring my own towels and extra sheets next
time. All in all a nice house. -

We have been renting from Seaside for 5 or 6 years and we never had an issue. This year was different. While the Property Management staff was responsive, the house had major issues that (in my opinion) should have been checked prior to arrival. The air conditioning unit was not working on the second level. Even though a crew came to repair it, it remained stuffy the entire week. The hot tub was not heating when we arrived. It was repaired, but the age of the hot tub (buttons did not work)and the appearance kept us from enjoying it. The red light came on for the septic system on Wednesday. Repair crew came out and reset this.
Minor issues: Dishwasher was broken - wheels to roll in/out and the jets in the master bath were dirty. Bulbs in the lamps were hit or miss.
Next year I may re-think renting with Seaside. Tell Gordon we were disappointed.Response from Seaside Vacations* - 09/29/2008

We are sorry that you were not pleased and that several items needed the attention of our maintenance staff. Equipment in rental homes, just like primary residences, does malfunction from time to time. Had we known about any of these issues, we certainly would have attended to them prior to your arrival. I reviewed our notes and the departing guest reported no issues.
Our lease is explicit and states, "Repairs, if any, will be accomplished as soon as possible, taking into consideration service personnel workload, parts availability, and nature of repair." We are glad you felt that Seaside Vacations was responsive and handled the issues in a professional and timely manner.
As you stated, you have stayed with Seaside Vacations for 5 or 6 years and never had a problem. Items in the homes may malfunction from time to time, and we hope you can understand this, appreciate our attentiveness, and stay with us again in the future.
