Additional Location Information
Lovely rural and unspoilt setting with rivers and wooded hillsides. There are many Bastide towns in the neighbourhood and vineyards to visit in Gaillac and Marcillac. Najac, 6 miles away, is an 11th century fortress overlooking the Aveyron River and there are many other Bastide Towns within very easy reach.
For walkers this area is simply wonderful. There are hundreds of miles of clearly marked and very well maintained footpaths of varying lengths. Kayaking in the rivers and pony trekking along the rivers and in the surrounding hills.
For those preferring to stay at home the house has Wifi, Sky +, lots of books, DVDs and games. The 3 acre garden and riverside picnic area offer lots of quiet little corners to hideaway and relax. The pool area is large, beautifully landscaped and very discreetly fenced for safety. Pont Jalbert really does offer you everything you need to relax and recharge.

A real find. Magnificent house in a quiet but highly interesting area.
Marvellous for a retired couple like us , but highly suitable too for families with its pool, large garden with swings and picnic area down by the river. The house itself could not be faulted and despite its size felt very homely. Local villages and markets well worth visits and maps and suggested walks readily available from owners. All very welcoming. -

What a fantastic place! An original French farmhouse nestled deep in rolling countryside close to the Gaillac wine district beautifully and tastefully restored whilst still offering all modern amenities. A perfect retreat for families with or without kids. The surrounding towns and marketplaces give visitors a special experience for both the eyes and the palate. Our hosts were both charming and helpful making our stay even more enjoyable. The photographs do not do the place justice and this will certainly not be our last visit.

We were a family party of three couples and we stayed at Pont Jalbert for a week in September. Our first impressions : very friendly welcome from the owners,Nina ,David and Freddie the spaniel. The spacious house is well organised and equipped with good bathrooms and a French country kitchen.
When we weren't by the pool we walked in the stunning surrounding countryside and explored places like abli and Corde . The local village has a supermarket and there is a local market in Villefranche ,not to be missed. We can't wait for our next visit. -

Lovely location and property! We had an excellent holiday with friends with children of all ages!
Lots of room so we didn't all have to be together and places to explore.
Loved visiting nearby towns - Najac and Cordes (stunning).
Perhaps improve the 'how to find us' as we drove around for a long time trying to find the house (it was worth the drive) -

The photos and blurb on Pont Jalbert are wonderful...but better awaits on arrival. The house is very well equipped and comfortable, the gardens and surrounding views are breathtaking and the clear pool is irresistible. Everything is maintained to a very high standard and the kitchen is a very well equipped. There are some lovely walks around the house and lots of places to explore. The nearby towns of Najac, Albi, Villefranche and Figeac are a most, beautiful architecture with wonderful shops, markets and restaurants. Having the gym was a bonus but with so much to see and do, we kept fit outdoors. We were a party of 9 people, and despite a range of ages (11 - 86 yrs), interests and abilities, Pont Jalbert catered for all. From initial enquiry through to the the end of our holiday, Nina and Marie were very attentive and ensured that our stay was smooth running and enjoyable. A wonderful holiday home which has set the standard very high for the future.

From the moment we arrived Nina made us feel incredibly welcome from the food and wine we discovered on arrival to recommendations for local attractions and restaurants - Pont Jalbert is the place to go to if you want to unwind.
The house was perfect for our group of x3 couples and two toddlers with plenty of space, a choice of indoor and outside eating areas and a fabulous pool area where we spent most of our time.
There is plenty of garden set in amongst some stunning countryside - make sure you take in a couple of walks in/around the local hills and river valleys recommended by Nina.
La Fouillade is just a 5 minute drive away with a bakers, butchers, local shop and a new supermarket on the edge of the village.
All in all, a perfect place to get away from it all...we can't wait to go back.

A great place. Very well equipped with a lovely pool which was very safe for children. A spacious and comfortable home from home. Very private and not overlooked in rural surroundings.
Some beautiful local towns with great views. Good cycling if you enjoy some challenging hills!
Great gym if it's not too hot. We had a fantastic holiday, well worth another visit in future.Response from Nina Oakman - 09/12/2011

Aberdeen, United KingdomStunning area - Beautiful House - A Great Family Getaway
Left on 09/08/2011 for a stay in August 2011
What a fantastic place to stay. 11 of us (6 adults & 5 kiddies, 4 months to 4years) travelled down to the lovely Midi Pyrenees by car. It was a bit of a drive however when we got to the house the journey was instantly forgotten! We were greeted by Marie, a bottle of wine and the biggest local loaf of bread I have ever seen!! We were shown about the place and how things worked and then left to our own devicws which was what we wanted. The swimming pool was fantastic and ideal for the kids, plus it could be locked up when not in use so safe too.
The house itself was lovely and cosy with loads of room to play hide and seek! (Especially at bath time!) The bedrooms were ideal and all of our party were happy with them. The ensuites were great as was the family bathroom. We had wonderful evenings on the veranda with the barbeque sizzling and the sun setting in the distance. The lounge is enormous with a cracking wood burner if it gets a bit chilly. The kitchen was great, a real farmhouse feel and we loved prparing the food in there.
The area was wonderful, medieval towns like Najac and Belcastel were beautiful & very unspoilt and the local food in the resaurants was out of this world.
It was just a great family getaway and I wish we had had more than a week there. Many thanks Nina!!!Response from Nina Oakman - 09/21/2011

As soon as we arrived we felt completely relaxed and Pont Jalbert. Nina was on hand if we needed her to be and her knowledge of the area and tips of things to do was invaluable. The pool area was fabulous, the pictures did not do it justice. The house itself was big enough that you were not on top of each other, but not too big. We went with 4 teenagers and 2 toddlers and there was something for everyone. The teenagers enjoyed the kayacking and Najac, so did we and swimming in the lake, the little ones enjoyed their tea cooked on the fire by the river and had endless amounts of fun in the garden/swings and pool. The gym was well equipped and helped burn off many pastries from the local bakery. Highly recommend it if you just want to go and away and get away from everything. We have booked to go back next year.

Left on 08/02/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We would say the house was very well equipped rather than luxurious but the photos on the site are very accurate so it's down to your own interpretation of luxurious. There were only 2 of us and only one bed and bathroom was set up (despite paying the same as had we filled the house) so that didn't help.
That would be our only negative - the grounds are beaustiful and the views out of this world. Being able to sit on the terrace or lie in bed and see the stars was just awesome. Around the house, the pool is great (especially when the cows in the field next door run down the hill - you have to see it to believe what a spectacle it is!) and, if you're a gym goer, having your own gym is a definite luxury.
There's great walking on youir doorstep and it's possible to walk to nearby villages La Fouillade and Lunac (about 5 kms away in either direction). Lunac is beautiful and worth taking a slight detour for.
Unless you like duck and foie gras, eating is quite limited. Najac is the nearest place with a choice of restaurants and if you choose a table with a view of the chateau you'll forgive the food. Local markets are good for fruit, vegetables and cheese but fish is difficult to come by. The patisserie in La Fouillade is fabulous and, bizarrely, the butchers opposite has fantastic fish quiches.
For a fabulous break in a beautiful part of France I'd definitely recommend Pont Jalbert. -

Have just returned from a fantastic family holiday at Pont Jalbert and really couldn't have asked for more. The farmhouse itself was fabulous; clean, spacious, comfortable and set in beautiful gardens. The generous sized pool was a great place for splashing about with the kids or relaxing on the sun loungers and our two children loved playing on the swings and having their dinner at the riverside picnic area. Pont Jalbert is also a great base for visiting the pretty French towns of Cordes and Najac, amongst others. On top of all this, the owners Nina and David were the most welcoming and hospitable of hosts, . We would definitely recommend this Gite to all of our friends.

Left on 04/11/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We received a warm personal welcome from Nina Oakman and were immediately impressed with the fabulous house and garden in its secluded and picturesque valley. The house was immaculate, the large farmhouse kitchen generously appointed and the comfortable livingroom cosy with its soft sofas and warming logburner. A spacious veranda overlooking the well maintained garden and fields beyond was the perfect spot for informal dining. Facilities also included a superbly appointed gym and an outdoor pool - ideal for summer visits. We were a party of 8 adults for the week we stayed at Pont Jalbert and the house catered for this number with ease and room to spare. The local town of La Fouillade has, amongst other amenities, tennis courts for hire, a cafe/bar and a well stocked supermarket, while a little further afield the town/city of Villefranche has many facilities, a good range of shops and an excellent Thursday market. The area is wonderful for walking and full of sightseeing interest. This is our second stay at Pont Jalbert and we hope it won't be our last.
