Built in the early 1900's and fully restored in December 2007, the beautiful original hardwood floors, ceilings and solid wood doors with the old fashioned Bennington knobs makes this home a charming getaway. The Corner Cottage is in a great location, and the owner, Susan, was a great host. She greeted us in a very welcoming manner and offered a lot of amenities for our stay. We were able to walk to downtown Napa and to the Wine Train Depot for our train ride. I enjoyed very much sitting on the front porch and relaxing. The home was very comfortable except for the bathroom which I did not particularly take to. This was my first experience using a soaker tub. If you are short, 5' 1", you might find it a little difficult using the tub.

Thank you Gloria and Charlene for your kind comments. It was a pleasure to have you as our guests. The cottage was restored with the original fixtures, including the soaker tub. It is actually fun to bath in a soaker tub. We will look into ways to make it more comfortable for other guests in the future. Thank you again for all your wonderful comments and suggestions.
Wishing you a wonderful day.

Our daughter found this location for a Thanksgiving weekend in the Wine Country and we had such a great time. (Accordingly this review is written by her father) The owner, Susan, greeted us with wine, baked goods, snacks, and a rundown on where to go, who to meet, and how to maximize your vacation, The king bedroom was very nice and the second bedroom had two twins which our daughter and her friend found quite satisfactory. The full kitchen makes meals possible although the many wonderful restaurants in the Napa area are great choices for shorter visits. The house was built in the early 20th century and while it has been remodeled nicely the single bathroom is quite snug. After a full day of exploring it was fun to curl up on the sofa and overstuffed chair to watch Hallmark Christmas movies and drink wine and nibble on munchies.
It was only two blocks to town and we walked every day to restaurants, shopping, and the Oxbow Market for a wide selection of great food. There is a trail not far away along the Napa River if you want to walk or run to make room for more food and drink.
There are always tradeoffs - you won't have the cavernous bathrooms of the high end resorts and there are small wardrobes vice closets but pretty much every resort seems to look like the others. The Corner Cottage is one of a kind and staying there almost makes you feel like a local instead of a tourist. Given the very personalized and gracious welcome (and farewell) from Susan and the home-like setting this is an experience you can only have here. When you hear the Wine Train toot its horn you will know that this is real Napa. Sip some more wine and enjoy the Corner Cottage. -

My husband and I shared the Corner Cottage with another couple while in Napa for a long weekend. I was impressed with the special touches that the owner Susan provided. A warm welcome, a bottle of wine and snacks, chocolates on the night stand and wonderful lotions and potions in the bathroom. The cottage is wonderfully decorated and appointed. It's centrally located and within walking distance of downtown. A stay at the Corner Cottage is much more personal than a hotel and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something special while in Napa.

I just returned last night with friends from Napa. We stayed for 6 nights at the Corner Cottage. It was a wonderful place to stay. Susan and Bob created a "dream" house in Napa. The home is quaint, warm, with so much attention to detail. It has such a warm,
home feeling. We enjoyed having our breakfasts at home each day in the beautiful new kitchen, and relaxing in the evenings on the front porch or in the living room.
We walked into downtown Napa each evening, and strolled by the water front.
The house was so well-located making it easy for us to take daily trips to
Napa vineyards, Sonoma, and San Francisco.
Thanks for the memories...Kathleen Guglielmo, Ease Into Italy & Beyond, New York -

Stayed here with 4 Bffs for a great weekend getaway. Wonderful, friendly greeting! The owner, Susan?, had a bottle of wine ready, beers in the fridge, snacks on the table and was very thoughtful, having 5 of everything... Robes, slippers, glasses, bottles of water, etc. The cottage has a great location, 5" walk to downtown, plentry of parking and a great yard to picnic, BBQ or relax in. No smoking on the property which was fine for me but a little inconvenient for our friend who went across the street to smoke at a little skatepark.
B/c it's so old, the walls are a bit thin and floors/doors are creeky... but all charming! Awesome updated kitchen although we didn't use it much. Small but very cute and well-stocked bathroom. Everything was clean and well-maintained. 4 of us in beds and one on an aerobes in the living room. Fyi - the unit is up a flight of stairs - no handicap access. -

The Corner Cottage is a lovely place to stay. Please note that it is in the city; just on the outer edge of downtown Napa - a short walk to all the shops and restaurants. It is not in "wine country," but is a great place to make your "home base," where you can plan your daily adventures and take it from there! It's also a delight to come back to, after a long day of winery tours/tastings, and to just kick-back and relax.
Everything that you need in a cottage vacation home is provided. And that means everything! Comfortable rooms/bedrooms; a fantastic kitchen with first-class appliances, cookware and spices, and; a nice, private patio area with plenty of room for family/friends to enjoy the company and even cook-out on the gas BBQ grill.
Susan is the perfect hostess/owner. She is a class lady and knows how to treat her guests. Thank you, Susan. Our best wishes are with you . . .Response from The Corner Cottage - 06/27/2012

This cottage was ideal for our girlfriend getaway. We loved the cottage and all the nice touches Susan the landlady has put into it including fine linens and bath products and a fully equipped kitchen. She was available to make sure our stay was perfect and it was. Hope to come back another time.

My boyfriend and I recently stayed two nights at The Corner Cottage for my birthday and had an amazing time. The rental process easy and the cottage felt like home away from home. Susan thought of every detail, including a birthday cake in the fridge with a bottle of wine and a hand written welcome note. We were able to relax on the porch and cook dinner for 6 when my family came in town. Not only was the cottage homey and more than we ever expected, Susan was so accommodating and made our stay that much more enjoyable. We will definitely be back and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

My two friends and I rented the cottage for a long girls' weekend away and it did not disappoint in the slightest! The king-sized bed was so comfy, our one friend could hardly bear to leave it each morning, while my other friend and I were equally comfortable in the two separated sections of the daybed provided in the second bedroom. The place was beautifully appointed and walking distance from everything, including The Wine Train, Oxbow Market, and the downtown/riverwalk area. It was a far better choice for more than two people (particularly friends) than renting multiple hotel rooms, as we got to enjoy gabbing in the cozy living room each evening after a day of fun and had the option of making breakfast or storing snacks (and wine!) in the full kitchen. There's even a washer/dryer, if needed, downstairs! Susan Melendez is a warm, wonderful host who treated us like family from the moment we entered, yet never hovered. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough!

We had a wonderful weekend at the Corner Cottage.
In the heart of downtown Napa, the location was excellent. We were able to walk to great restaurants and many boutique wineries, and about a 10 minute drive to the start of Silverado Drive to visit all of the wineries.
The cottage has a great homely feel, and all of the little details that Susan, the owner goes to, only makes you feel even more welcome. Wine waiting on arrival, chocolates on pillows, what more could you ask for? Did I mention a small vinyard in the backyard and a front deck which is great for an afternoon drink.
I can't think of a place I'd recommend more! 2 night just wasnt enough. If I'm ever lucky enough to return to Napa - I know exactly where I will be staying. -

The corner cottage is a beautiful & comfortable house just a couple of blocks from Main Street where all of the great shops & restaurants are within easy walking distance. The owner, Susan, made us feel very welcome. There is not one single thing you would need that Susan doesn't already have in the house, whether you want to cook (inside or out), read, have a party, pack a picnic or play a game. The skateboarders across the street posed no problem at all. The only part of the house that wasn't perfect was the bath tub (a little difficult to get in & out of) but Susan is well aware and working on a solution. I highly recommend this cottage as a great place to stay when visiting Napa.

One bath room if that matters to you. Reading lights in bed - none.
Skate board park across the street. Closes at 7:00 pm. so no real problem. unless you are a skate boarder. A little noisy in the early evening, but goes quiet at dark.
Owner very kind and considerate. -

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Corner Cottage. The owners restored this cottage into a very cozy place to stay. We loved everything about the cottage. The warm and cozy feeling, upon entering. The beautiful new kitchen with stainless steel appliances . One of the bedrooms had a king bed with two armoires. The second bedroom had a day bed and a twin bed. The living room had a flat screen TV and a leather couch. The bathroom has a footed tub and shower combo. The porch is perfect for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The back yard was lovely with a patio and grill and you can admire the 5 rows of grapes growing. We enjoyed all of the little extra touches like fresh flowers, a bottle of wine and chocolates. The cottage is so close to the river with lots of great restaurants and so close to downtown.

San Diego, CaliforniaBeautiful Cottage for Friends Wine Tasting Trip
Left on 10/16/2010 for a stay in October 2010
A friend came across this cottage while searching for places to stay for a girls weekend trip. She contacted the owner (who ended up being from the same town) and got everything set up for our group of 4 ladies for the 4 day weekend. We have all been friends since high school, but don't normally travel together. We checked in on a Friday afternoon and the owner was there to greet us right away and tell us about the place. They really put a lot of time and details into this lovely cottage.
There is a lot of wood in the kitchen: floors, cabinets, even the ceiling. The kitchen has a dishwasher, small table, and a little window bench with pillows and a blanket. It is also stocked with plates, cups, etc for your stay. There are 2 bedrooms: one master with a queen bed, armour, and dresser and one smaller bedroom with a day bed and trundle bed that can be set up if needed. The bathroom has a clawfoot tub with a shower and curtain attached. Therefore, you can stand up to shower in the tub, but have to be careful getting in and out and we recommend putting the slip mat in the tub if not there already.
There is a BBQ grill in the backyard and hammock and little seating area that is covered with gazebo netting. We really had hoped to have a bottle of wine while relaxing back there, but never made the time.
The owners have made things available such us a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, chocolates on the pillows, robes, coffee and candy. We were even lucky enough to have a bottle of wine waiting for us to share. There is wi-fi available, but I couldn't figure out the code while we were there. The code was written down, but I didn't know what network to use or if it was even connected while we were there. I guess that's why we have blackberries and I-phones.
We loved our stay here. It was the right price for us to stay together and have most of the amenities of home. I plan to look into staying here again and letting all my friends know. -

My wife and I just returned from a 3 night in Napa/4 night in Carmel vacation. Our Napa nights were spent in the Corner Cottage. Susan and Robert were great hosts. We were greated and treated as family from our initial email inquiry right through our visit. I wish we would have spent even more time in Napa. The cottage has been beautifully restored by Susan and Robert. The wordwork is wonderful, The kitchen spectacular (even if we didn't cook, haha). The location was perfect, right off of downtown. We were able to walk everywhere from Oxbow to the other side of downtown in the evenings. It is very safe. During the days, we visited the wineries and at night, we walked all around Napa. Uva was a nice place to eat with live Jazz on the night we were there. The Bounty Hunter was a fun place too. Beau wine tours offered up a great way to see the wineries. All in all, a great time, Thanks again Susan and Robert. Hopefully, we will get back to see you again some day soon . We loved meeting you and sharing your corner cottage.
