We feel so lucky to have found Martina's cottage on Trip advisor. We spent 4 nights here. The cottage is right on the beach on the eastern tip of the island so is away from all the hustle and commotion of the tourist area. We rented a car to get around but were happy to escape back to the peace and beauty of the cottage. The home is very comfortable and clean and Martina was very gracious-even met us at the airport to make sure we knew how to get there and to welcome us personally. Having the sea in the backyard with the sound of the waves and the nice breeze coming in through the french doors was heaven. My only complaint was having to leave!

This is a home away from home in a tropical paradise. The house was very clean and we enjoyed the porch the best. It is located close enought to the shopping and restaurants, but far enough away to make it feel more private. We enjoyed cooking our meals at the house and using the grill for burgers. The grocery store was just up the road, so we were able to stock the frig and cabinet with all our goodies.
We would definately recommend this house.
Hoping to come back real soon. -

We (two couples) enjoyed our 5 night stay at the cottage. The location was perfect - in a select area not far from Nassau but much quieter than downtown. The owner, Martina, was very helpful and communicated promptly by email. The cottage is not fancy, but comfortable with all necessary facilities provided. You do need a car, but parking is easy.
While we were there the refrigerator was not working properly to keep things cool. The owner said she would check it out. We did some laundry in the washing machine and the white garments turned brown - apparently a common problem with the local water supply. We were kept awake by barking dogs, but this is also common on the island. There is an old junk car parked in the garden next to the cottage which rather spoils the appearance. There were less light bulbs than light sockets.
However, the positive aspects of the cottage - sitting out on the shaded patio enjoying meals near the shore, being able to walk to a nearby swimming beach, having a good wifi connection - were more than sufficient to outweigh any negatives.Response from Dave - 11/29/2012

Sorry to have learned about the fridge afterwards. I would have had it checked and repaired immediately. The fridge is in full operation!
There is a sign on the washing machine that the city water quality is poor on the island in general, and sometimes rusty (be aware washing white). Because of the poor city water quality there is a complete water system installed outside the cottage with 2 water filters to clean the city water before it runs into the house. I do the best I can!
Yes, there are dogs on our island, everywhere.
The old car is my 1979 Mercedes Benz I had imported from Germany when I moved to the island. No negative comments until now. The car can be easily removed if necessary. -

It´s a lovely and cosy place out east, quiet and not in a touristic area. you can see spectacular sunrises and it is the best place for watching fullmoon on the hole island. the private little beach is perfect for sunbathing, snorkeling and diving. It´s in walking distance to a grocery store and near a bus stop, so you will miss nothing.
it´s a great place to stay, the cottage is embellished on a great scale and clean. I felt at home from the first moment, and Martina helps whenever you have a question. I met wonderful people from all over the world, I really enjoyd staying there and i´m looking foreward to the next time!!!
I promise, if you stay at this place, you don´t wanna leave it ever again =)

This is was our third trip to Nassau but this time with our children. We found this vacation property thru Judy McGinty and really hoped that it was as it was stated. It was beyond what is stated, first the owner is the nicest lady who was there to greet us when we arrived, took the time to explain what we needed to know plus followed up with us once we settled in. We did use her driver Mr. Darling who is the sweetest man ever and totally recommend using his services as his vehicle is clean and has seat belts (some don't in Nassau) plus he is very nice and loves to help you out with questions. The cottage is very large and has laundry another plus, the backyard is amazing and so nice to just hang out and play games, eat, and of course swim and snorkel. We used that little beach alot as when the tide was in the water was just the right depth for our girls and when the tide was out it was perfect for snorkling. The last day we were there we were lucky enough to have a 6 ft (yes that big) stingray swim up to us (breathtaking) plus the beach is only a short walk down the street which the locals use and it is very very beautiful and my kids made lots of new friends. There is an ice cream parlor, grocery store, and I used a local beauty salon just a short drive to get my daughters hair braided (only cost for the two for 4 hours work $74.00 and They charge $300 down town per child. The neighbours were very nice down the way and they have the two cutest puppies named Jack and adele who would come every morning and night to play with my girls. I have to comment about the dog barking situation, as this is a very very above average neighbourhood, there is a house across the street that has a few dogs that do bark if strange people are around, this only happened a few times and no dogs every barked when we were sleeping. All over the island you find dogs as they do roam freely but are super friendly and loved to be petted. This vacation was very worth the money and we will be back again

The Oceanfront Cottage was a perfect fit for my family of 4, plus my sister and sister-in-law. The spacious back porch facing a small yard and the sea beyond may have been the best part. We gathered there every day for coffee or meals or games or reading. It was nice to walk a short distance down to the little rock beach if wanted sun or to swim. The house itself has all the amenities you need, especially free wi-fi. The kitchen was more than adequate for the nights we cooked. Just about every piece of cookware, dishware, and kitchenware is available. The rooms are large and well-furnished upstairs, and a smaller downstairs bedroom is ideal for one or two people. All have ceiling and floor fans to help keep you cool on warm nights.
When the refrigerator gave out, Martina's friend personally oversaw a rapid repair job in less than a day--which on the Bahamas is rather extraordinary. The neighborhood is so quiet it was like we were the only ones there most of the time. The only potential drawback is neighboring dogs that struck up a chorus of barking occasionally, but Martina directly notifies the neighbors that guests are in her house and this resulted in a noticeable response that quieted the dogs at night. If having a comfortable, quiet time on a mostly secluded beach-front property is what you seek in Nassau, then Martina's Oceanfront Cottage very ably fills the bill. -

We stayed here from 19-24 February. Great house with tons of space. We traveled with 2 couples, one teenager and another adult. 2 Huge bedrooms upstairs, one large bedroom downstairs. walk in closets that had roll out bed option, Futon in living room.
Great porch facing the ocean, which is about 300 meters from the porch. Swimming was easy. Reef at end of property for daily snorkeling. Saw sting ray, lion fish, drum fish, trumpets, etc. Beach is coral, minimal sand, but we enjoyed it very much.
Martina was very easy to work with. No issues with payment or meeting us at the airport. Had power issue and she contacted us via email immediately to make sure we were ok and inform us of outage in the area due to construction.
I would recommend this house to families or groups of friends that want to escape the hustle and bustle and just relax.
The drive into Nassau was 15 minutes due to traffic but far enough away to not be bothered by the touristy spring break types.

"300 meters" must have been a typo because the ocean is less than "30 meters" from the porch. The property is right on the ocean and the property length is only 45 meters and this includes the building.

Nice cottage in a safe upscale neigborhood. You do need a rental car or take a cab to get to the nicer beeches. Only down side for us was all the dogs that barked at night and early morning.

IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE PURCHASED A BARK CONTROL DEVICE AND THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED.

The cottage was perfect for our group of 5. We took a daily cleaner, it was nice to have semi hotel treatment.
Location is very far from usual tourist attractions. We took a rental car and the guy from there showed us around, including the jungkanoo practice by the bridge.
A car is recommended. -

Excellent place to relax and enjoy the warm waters. Right on the water and away from the crowd. Martina was very courteous. Modest accommendations, but with the welcoming feel for all visitors. Glad I decided to rent a van for the family. Makes getting around a lot mor easier.

Martina this cottage was perfect to suit the unique needs of our group. It was so delightful to come home to a private space to rest and relax after a challenging day of sports programming under the hot Bohemian sun. The facilities were great and we enjoyed being able to eat outside on the porch with that cool Eastern breeze at the end of the day. Thank you so much for being so friendly and accommodating during our two week stay in Nassau at your Oceanfront Cottage. Highly recommended for those who want a piece of paradise outside of a resort setting.

This is our second time back in less than a year. We will never stay in a hotel again after staying at Martina's house. We will be returning with our children and solo twice a year. We have found our new vacation hot spot. The house is beautiful, quiet and relaxing. The hotels cannot compare with this rental. We will be coming every six months for a perfect vacation. Rent this property and you will never be sorry, Hats off to Martina, excellent hostess.

We stayed for two nights at this cottage. Martina was very helpful and picked us up at the airport and made a stop at a near by supermarket.
The cottage is very cozy and right at the beach. The patio and garden with the view on the ocean is just amazing. We might come back next year already! ;-)
