Left on 05/01/2013 for a stay in August 2012
This was meant to be a holiday of a life time. Certainly not 5 star more like 3 ! Beautifully designed but run down and dirty, definitely in need of a tin of paint or two ! . We arrived to dirty sheets and you had to ask for clean towels as they just hung the same ones up daily ! The rooms were damp and smelly not at all of an exceptable standard for the high price we paid to stay there with our friends for a week we were so disappointed ! There was excessive staff with two young boys coming in daily to clean, the staff were lovely and very friendly but lacked direction in cleaning. This accommodation is more like a youth hostel than your own private villa so don't be impressed by the photos on line !

Halifax, United KingdomThe Cove
Left on 04/01/2013 for a stay in March 2013
In early March 2013 my wife, son, daughter and I stopped for two glorious nights at The Cove.
The location of the villa is ideal for that quick beach break after a long flight from such as the UK. The villa is set directly onto possibly the loveliest part of a long beach that stretches away from the villa.
The interior of the impeccably clean villa is just as described with plenty of space and facilities. Nothing can compare with rising from a good nights sleep to the sight and sound of the ocean, or sitting on the spacious roof top veranda with its pool watching the waves breaking onto the beach.
The service at the villa is discrete, but always friendly, attentive and helpful with the food that the cook and his helpers served worthy of any five star hotel. We were invited to select from a varied menu, and from a float of rupees, breakfast, a midday light meal and evening dinners, if required, were provided. Tea, coffee and water were available whenever requested. We always looked forward to the arrival of our friendly watchman for the night who shared many a tales about the island with us in the evening.
Our host at The Cove was Rodney who very obligingly drove us around the town trying to obtain rupees out of the Sri Lanka atms that seemed always reluctant to hand out cash on request.
The few people we did encounter on the beach were delightful with nobody trying too hard to sell items that we had no use for.
For anybody wanting a peaceful, quite and relaxing few days to shake off the jet lag with a lovely beach and the sea at your doorstep The Cove fits the bill perfectly.

Hikkaduwa, Sri LankaOver priced and some of the staff were unhelpful
Left on 01/21/2013 for a stay in January 2013
The cove villa looks great on paper, unfortunately in reality it's not and unless they make improvements, I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone. Firstly, most staff were friendly, but some unhelpful and frankly just lazy. Siva the man on duty at night, and the younger chap that served us breakfast were great and saved our 2 day trip, The Cove are lucky to have them.
We arrived to find out that the delux double rooms on the first floor did not have any access to the swimming pool on the second floor. With full knowledge that nobody was staying on the 2nd floor that day we asked one of the lazy members of staff if we could use the pool/upgrade. He said that guests were coming later that day and therefore it was a no. Later that night we then found out that actually no one was arriving for 2 days. Disappointed we asked siva to mention it to the boys so that we could upgrade in the morning. We were not keen to use the beach as it is polluted and littered and not very nice at all. Fisherman make a mess and big ships leak oil. It would have made sense to ask early on if we wanted to upgrade, thus they would make more money and would be happier from the word go.
The next day we spent $75 to move to the 2nd floor suite so that we had use of a pool. The room is great and much better however a little bit more cleaning should have been done. Instead we had to ask them to come and clean the pool and still they sent the chap who seem to do most the work.
Lots of things are overlooked at The Cove and when you spend $375 to stay somewhere on the last 2 days of your holiday you expect perfection, especially in such a small hotel with what i wouls say is big team of staff.
Disappointing but thank you to those who did try and make our stay better. This place just needs more care. -

NottinghamWhat an amazing place
Left on 12/12/2012 for a stay in November 2012
I admit I stumbled on this place looking for a last night in Sri Lanka near to the airport. I had no idea what to expect & was absolutely amazed.
Its a stunning place. Only 3 rooms. We had one of the "cheap" ones. That is one of the 2 without its own pool. The bathroom was beautiful & you lay in bed & look out over the mezzanine & the balcony to the sea. You cannot be anywhere without a view. Not only that but there's a chef who cooks your meals for you. We arrived late afternoon & sat down to an excellent dinner on a grand dinning table.
Cant fault it. If I'd known what it was I'd have stayed for longer. -

Left on 02/16/2012 for a stay in March 2011
A group of us stayed at the cove on a kite surfing holiday. The location was perfect and surroundings beautiful. It was amazing to step out of the house onto the beach and spend the day surfing. The wind and waves were perfect and we were delighted with the convenience.
The views from the house are breathtaking, the architecture is amazing. We loved the top floor of the house the best for the pool in particular - so imaginative.
A beautiful house in a fantastic location. Exceptional food and service. -

This was our first trip to Sri Lanka and The Cove for our family and it won't be the last!!
Everything about the house was perfect - we've racked our brains and cannot come up with a single improvement. The house is extremely well designed - spacious yet homely. Plenty of room for privacy if you want or space to hang out together if you feel like it.
We had the suite on the top floor with the infinity pool and we felt like royalty, the beds are all Super King size and the mattresses and pillows top quality and the bathrooms are to die for!!
The staff are all marvellous - discreet, cheerful and extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food cooked by the chef Chandana was spot on - he cooked us Sri Lankan food as well as English and it was all served and presented beautifully at the impressive dining table. The BBQ on the beach is a must - my mouth waters just thinking about it!
The location is perfect - beach right outside the door (swept every morning!) Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance and ideally situated for trips around the Island.
We can't wait to go back again...

WindsorGreat family holiday
Left on 01/26/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We have been coming to Sri Lanka and Negombo for a number of years and on this occasion wanted a place on our own to relax with all the family without the constraints of hotel timetables. The cove provided the flexibility we wanted with small children and grandparents in our group. The house was wonderful, great design and much more spacious than we had expected. The staff were super and the food lovely. Our favorite thing about the house was watching the fishermen in their boats far out on the sea in the early morning from our beds. Thanks guys we had a wonderful family reunion.

A beautiful house at the wrong place. The beach of negombo is not attractive at all, clean only in front of "The Cove" and the better hotels. Instead of shells we found dead cats and dogs between the boats of the fishermen and mountains of waist too - nobody seems to be reasonable for.
As the "town" of negombo is also not very interesting (if you compare it with other beach-destinations in asia and even in the south of Sri Lanka) we did stay the most of the time at the pool (1st floor) with the right zoom-factor to the beach.
The Team ist very nice and the amenities are first class, only at night we felt a little disturbed by the noisy street an the crying water-pumps under the roof.

My husband and I with our three children aged 8, 14 and 16 spent 5 unforgettable days at the cove. The house is
luxurious with amazing sea views. To simply step out of the house onto the beach and enjoy a dip in the sea was fantastic. The pool on the second floor was a focal point for our family and enjoyed by all. The staff were very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The food was excellent and the barbeque night on the beach was a real winner. The cove exceeded our expectations and we would love to spend a holiday there again. -

DubaiThe perfect getaway!
Left on 05/24/2011 for a stay in April 2011
In april of 2011, my friend and I went to "the Cove" with our four children. (Ages 4-6). We were warmly greeted with fresh drinks and cool towels to refresh. The staff was always available, warm, trustworthy and courteous. (Our children still rave about the accommodations and the kindness of the staff.!) We had the option to have meals prepared for a very small price or to eat out. The villa offered a menu of a variety of choices and the chef would prepare other personal requests as well. The villa was child friendly for children above 4. Children under 4 would have to be watched very closely as there are many flights of stairs that go to the second and third floor and could be very dangerous. The pool on the third floor also was one depth. So there is no shallow end for a child that is unable to swim.
The Cove also has a driver that will pick you up from the airport and will drop you back. You can also arrange excursions to the Elephant Orphanage (strongly recommend) or other places of interest for a fee. I highly recommend this place and would go back again! We absolutely loved it!
This place was a true haven- situated on the beach for sunset dinners, playing, or a dip in the pool! We had the privacy and space that a villa would offer as well as meals prepared and served and rooms tidied with fresh towels and bed linens. We always felt safe with the staff and were able to ask questions about the surrounding area. Strongly recommend! :) -

We arrived at The Cove in the early evening and were greeted by a very nice staff, a fabulous house, well appointed bedrooms and a beautiful sunset. The chef was wonderful...he made us breakfast each morning, and several very good dinners, including a very tasty Sri Lankan curry on our first night. The master bedroom was wonderful...up on the top floor opening up to the pool and a beautiful view. It had a small fridge upstairs, sitting area and two bathrooms (one with a rain shower and one with a very large tub). We didn't find too much to do in Negombo itself but we did enjoy a trip to the Negombo fish market to pick out our fresh fish for dinner which the chef prepared and grilled for us that night. The staff were very friendly and eager to help whenever needed. The house was very cool in its design, but a lot of stairs to climb when going up to bed. The two other bedrooms were on the second floor which is something to note if one is traveling with young kids that don't want to be on a floor by themselves. We felt very safe though as there were security cameras on each floor facing the front door and a security guard outside the house on the beach (believe he provides security for the hotel next door as well). There was also a staff member who came each night at 8:00pm and stayed at the house overnight on the ground floor. Good to know that if something went wrong at night we had someone there to help. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Dubai, United Arab EmiratesAbsolutely brilliant - could not have been better
Left on 12/07/2010 for a stay in November 2010
We (a group of 6 adults and one 9 month old) stayed at The Cove in November 2010. We really cannot recommend the place highly enough, I will try to provide an objective review, however, it is difficult to find anything wrong with the place!
The owner arranged an airport pick-up with a safe air conditioned van. On arrival at the villa we were amazed. We had seen the photos on the internet but were not sure if it would be that good in reality - it was better!
What the photos dont show is the staff. Beautiful as the villa is, the staff are the real highlight. Fazal (the live in manager) and Norbit (his assistant) were magnificant. In addition to the breakfast they prepared, we also had dinner at the villa each night ordered from a menu and prepared by Fazal - his food was brilliant. In addition, they helped us with all aspects of our stay from bringing drinks to us at the pool to arraning tuk-tuk drivers for a tour of Negombo and a tour gide to take us on a day trip to the elephants.
Our entire group really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone. -

London, United KingdomAn outstanding place to stay - perfect service and beautiful sur
Left on 12/06/2010 for a stay in November 2010
The Cove in Negombo is one of those perfect places to stay that you feel reluctant to share with anyone else. It is a three storey villa with 3 bedrooms which worked very well for our family (parents, 2 kids age 3 and 6 months, grandparents, and aunty). The transfer is only 20 minutes from the airport which is very welcome after a long flight from England. We were greeted with drinks and flannels to refresh ourselves.
The master suite is huge, with floor to ceiling windows so you can enjoy views of the sea and the fishing boats from all angles. The villa provided an extra bed for our toddler and a cot for the baby. The bathrooms are beautifully furnished with rainfall showers and little touches like candles by the bath and large soft towels. The private swimming pool is accessed from the master suite on the top floor - lovely for lazing on the terrace and swimming while watching the sea.
The service at The Cove is outstanding. We felt like we were staying in a private 5 star hotel. The manager Faisal is also the executive chef and prepares mouth-watering Sri Lankan food along with European fare. Norbert is the butler and seems to always know when to bring you a cup of tea or a drink of ice water! The team at The Cove were excellent - very polite and friendly and at all times very professional. We were all very well looked after - especially our children. Faisal was always happy to make non-spicy food for our 3 year old at a time that suited us.
In all, this is a truly wonderful place to stay. It is right on the beach, a beautifully designed house with wonderful and courteous staff. The food is delicious and served by the staff in the dining room. We would definitely recommend The Cove and look forward to booking our next stay very soon.
