Very romantic, small space, great location, fabulous view. Minimal kitchen, comfy bed, nice woodstove... everything worked. Would've been sweet as a stormy-weather refuge—the sunny weather was an unexpected bonus!

      Lovely, but....

Left on 12/08/2012 for a stay in December 2012

We have rented many vacation homes and felt this one was lacking some basic helpful comforts. A box of tissues would have been appreciated and I was shocked when the info we were given asked us to restock the frig if we used something up. Nicer soap would have been lovely. Since we got a good discount for a Dec stay, I felt ok about it, but if we were paying full price, I would have felt a bit cheated.
The office staff was great and the little rental was cute, but some added touches would have been welcome.

Left on 12/07/2012 for a stay in November 2012

This cabin is perfect in so many ways. The distance from town is great in that you're far enough from town to have your privacy, yet close enough to make a quick trip to get groceries or visit the locals. The weather somehow managed to be clear most of the time and allowed us to enjoy both the amazing view from the property and the beach which is just a short walk/drive away. The bed was very comfortable, kitchen well equipped, and the fireplace made the living area come together nicely. Thank you for this opportunity! We definitely intend to return in the future.

Left on 09/12/2012 for a stay in July 2012

I can’t say enough great things about this cottage on a cliffside overlooking the Pacific. The view when we pulled up was jaw-dropping. The furnishings inside the cottage were comfortable and classy - not at all cheesy like you might find in many rentals. The area was private and quiet, and it’s just a short 2 min drive down to the beach and town of Manzanita. If there are just two of you, I really don’t see the point of staying directly on the beach or in town when this gem exists just a mile up the road. I could see myself staying here for a month writing a novel, if I wrote. The management company was great too – friendly, returned my calls - and best of all, they drove out to our place after office hours with a key when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the cottage! If I’m ever back in this area I’ll definitely be staying here. Be sure and try Bread and Ocean in Manzanita for breakfast and lunch – so yummy. And do the short hike to Short Sands Beach in Oswalt West State Park – beautiful, not windy, and not crowded.

This cleaning fee is a tough one for us and you are right, it is high for the size of the place. This property has no washer/dryer on site so it means pulling the laundry out to another site with return to The Getaway, sometimes in two trips. All that takes more time--and OceanEdge is the only vacation rental agency in town to reimburse housekeepers for their mileage, something we started when the gas prices sky-rocketed. Hope the explanation helps even though it doesnt really change things.

Comments about mattresses are the hardest ones for us. So sorry for this. These homeowners upgrade this perfect little spot every year. The mattress is less than three years old. We get renters one week who find a mattress uncomfortable--and the very next week people remark how comfy the very same bed is. We take seriously these comments--I want to change anything and everything that needs changing--and yet, every single mattress is such a matter of personal preference. --OceanEdge

The Ocean Edge staff were incredibly kind and helpful from booking to checkout. The Getaway is a delightful, beautifully furnished "nest" perched on a cliff overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean. My January stay included multiple storms but I was cozy and safe as I experienced "the eye of the storm" in this well built, elegant getaway. It just doesn't get any better.

The weather was stormy, but we lit a fire and cuddled up inside the Getaway. It's very cute, and the view from the yard is stunning. It was November, and we found it difficult to regulate the heat at night, so we were chilly, but otherwise a nice, little place.

      A Great Experience

Left on 11/01/2011 for a stay in October 2011

Not only was the location fantastic, the amenities inside the house were great. The furniture is of a nicer quality and more stylish than we've come to expect from vacation houses. Nice to not be stuck with yet another nautical theme with pale blue paint and cartoony sea-faring artwork that looks like it came from the 1950s. And, they thought of just about everything as far as anything you'll need in the house -- from firewood to birthday candles.

      The Perfect Getaway!

The Getaway loft is the perfect place to spend a long weekend. The loft is perched on a bluff overlooking the ocean and Manzanita beach. Manzanita is a wonderful town and just the right size to have everything you need.

The Getaway Loft is located over a 1 mile outside of Manzanita so if you want to be able to walk to the beach town this might not be the best choice but if you want a quite secluded spot than it doesn't get better than the Getaway.

If you enjoy wondering around in nature the Neahkahnie Mountain trail is an awesome way to spend an afternoon.

We arrived in town only to discover our original reservation had gotten lost somehow. Staff was very kind and got on it right away, finding us lodging in the last remaining properties available in high season at the beach, and charged us what we would have paid for our original choice in lodging (at a loss to them). They were very helpful and friendly, and found out what had gone wrong with the first reservation attempt as well. I would recommend them for their excellent customer service.

Left on 07/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The property staff were very friendly and helpful. They were all great! The place was clean and the location is an escape from town and people. We love the quietness of the area as it was so peaceful during the day and evening. It is a bit far to walk to town unless you have time and the energy as it is uphill on the way home. The view was not bad as you can see the ocean just not the shoreline or beach. It would have been helpful to have an iron and ironing board to use. Also we felt the cleaning fee was high as we had to leave the place already cleaned and have the linens removed and garbage taken out.
It is truly a great escape for a couple!(Note: crowded for anymore than 2 or 3 people as it is one room & one bed)!

We had a great stay at the Get-away! This was just the perfect size cabin for a couple. The space is well organized and the furnishings are modern. Love the small woodstove for fires on those rainy NW days & nights. The property is in a private location above the beach--beautiful! Highbank waterfront with fabulous views of the ocean from the cabin and the front yard. Views of the town of Manzanita and the coast south from the front yard. We had great weather Sat & Sun-Apr 30 & May 1st. We were able to sit on the front yard in our beach chairs reading and watching the kiteboarders below! We had beach walks and beach fires both evenings. The town of Manzanita has a great grocery store with friendly owners and other shops to browse. Loved breakfast at The Wave Cafe up on Hwy 101 at the turnoff into town! Can't wait to come back for another stay!

Hello, We have just returned from a great weekend in the Getaway. Here are a few comments that will hopefully help. great location/view
wonderful price with the 1/2 off
like no smoking and no pets
mattress needs replacing. according to paperwork it was new in 2004!It trenches in the middle.
Kitchen needs a bit of reworking, perhaps the microwave on the wood cart so you have some counter space for cooking and dishwashing. The present dish drainer is useless.
      Toaster was not staying down.
All the baking pans were dirty/greasy I washed 2 of them and left the large silver one in the oven.
Few "basic staples" as mentioned in contract.
no chairs/table to sit at outside.
      good towels and linens
      good tv

      Getaway

Left on 12/31/2010 for a stay in December 2010

The getaway is expensive for such a small place and much of that can be attributed to the ambiance. In the past we had been greeted with a care package of sorts that included a bottle of wine, biscotti, and popcorn. These things, while small were a nice touch that I was surpised were missing since the price hasn't gone down but I believe has gone up. Also, the kitchen was a little sparse. We couldn't find the dish soap and there was nothing like flour, sugar -things that most rental houses keep stocked for their guests. Lastly, it would be nice if the bathroom had some shampoo.
Overall, our stay was again enjoyable but we were dissapointed that the small perks were no longer there.

      Relaxing escape...

Left on 10/15/2010 for a stay in October 2010

We had a relaxing few days at Getaway. Minor notes:
      - lack of electrical outlets, particularly in the kitchen, was problematic.
      - Might consider adding an outdoor fire pit (Robin also notes that a hot tub would be an amazing addition)
      - Might also consider an outdoor motion sensor light. Arriving at night made it difficult to find the door and keyhole :).
Overall, a great experience. Nan was very helpful. (Technically I'm "Steven", rather than "Stephen" :))
      thanks,

This surpassed our expectations. The cottage was very nicely furnished and the mile walk to the beach was really pretty easy--be aware you have to walk up the hill on the way back but it isn't too steep. Very romantic get away. Manzanita is a great little town and close to Cannon Beach if you want more dinning and shopping. There are several great little shops and restaurants in Manzanita itself as well. The OceanEdge staff is very helpful and friendly.

My husband and I stayed at the getaway to celebrate our 1st anniversary. Overall we were happy with our stay with a few exceptions. We were told that they would have a bottle of wine waiting at the house for us, but there was not. The staff sent us to the house, not knowing if it had been cleaned yet, luckily it had. The cleaning fee was our biggest turn off. $70 is extremely high for any rental, especially a studio! The average fee along the coast for rentals is around $40. I also already turned in my review of the property when we checked out. Overall (concerning our stay) it seems the company was a bit unorganized. However the view was great as well as the peace and quiet.

When guests want to check in early, we often let them go into the house before a quality check is completed, which was the case in this siutation. The house is always clean, we just let renters know the supervisor hasn't been over to double check the house. We don't offer wine to guests but do offer complimentary champagn, sparkling cider or chocolate truffles. Our cleaning fees are in line with the other local rental coompanies. Calculated into the fee is the fact that all of the laundry has to be brought back to the office, as there is no washer or dryer on the property.

The kitchen is not very functional although the small size is OK. Owners should consider putting a built-in cabinet the right hand side of the entry and adding an electrical outlet, then putting the Microwave there and placing the toaster and coffee machine (higher needs) on the counter. Just adding an outlet on the side where the pots and pans are stored would be very helpful to the kitchen functionality. But I know the house in on the market so this may all be moot.

By day two of our trip, we decided to stay a third night and cancel our reservations for a stay in Portland. The property was very, very clean and thoughtfully furnished. The location and view can't be beat. Sure you can't walk right out to the beach, but it's not an issue considering how private and relaxing the property is. It was wonderful to watch the sunset at night and wake up to seeing the ocean through the huge windows. The staff was great, very accommodating and it is obvious they take pride in their work and company. They sincerely want you to have a great stay. We are already planning our next trip to The Getaway, this will be a new tradition for us. We have already recommended this company to our friends and hope to get a group out this fall in one of the larger units. Thank you OceanEdge!

Our fondest memories at the Oregon Coast

Left on 05/26/2010 for a stay in May 2010

We lived in Portland for three years and our fondest memories were made at the Getaway.
Every anniversary was celebrated by going to the Getaway and we loved it.
We recently left Oregon to be in San Francisco and our last stop after packing up our house was the Getaway!
The people at Oceanedge Vacation Rentals are always so nice and helpful!

The Getaway merits its own name

Left on 02/17/2010 for a stay in February 2010

We have been coming to the Getaway for about 5 years and we love it. The view is simply unbeatable. The house is cute with one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept on. If you leave the windows that show the ocean view open, you can sleep and wake up to the crashing of the waves against the cliff below. I love the woodstove and supplied firewood, the weber grill with supplied charcoal, the lawn furniture (only supplied in the warmer months) and the proximity to the beach and downtown Manzanita, which is quite possibly the least salty and most quaint beach town in Oregon. Over the years, we have noticed that a few things should have been replaced in the near to distant past. Next time we come, we'll bring our own pots, pans and cooking spoons, spatulas, etc. The silverware is fine. The cups and plates are fine. The pots and pans need replacing and can be slightly dirty from time to time. Overall, this place can't be beat. Ocean Edge is very cordial and makes everything easy for you. Cooking is a passion of ours, so we are sorry to dwell on the cookware, someone else might not care at all. If it only takes a few new pots and pans to make this place a 10, then you can't complain, right?

      Great weekend at the Getaway

Left on 10/07/2009 for a stay in October 2009

We have been coming to the Getaway for about 5 years now and we love it. We were lucky enough to have 3 days of great sunshine this past weekend. For a review of the actual space, we noticed some improvements and some overall wear and tear since the last time we stayed there. The addition of firewood is AWESOME! It was cold in the morning and night and we definitely appreciated the firewood. The newer grill worked great. The folding lawn chairs are new since our last stay and we enjoyed those as well. For wear and tear: the couch has seen better days. There are some issues with the springs and you can't really sit comfortably. The pans and some of the spatulas need to be replaced. I'm not sure if cable TV was on the list of ammenities (not that we need it;)...but the picture is grainy and not really watchable. We came back from the beach on Sunday at 4PM looking forward to playing Scrabble near the cliff and a guy showed up to mow the lawn...which we were unaware of. We just sucked it up and stayed inside for the hour or so it took him to mow. He was polite and asked if we wanted him to leave, but I didn't want to give him any grief.
Other than that, everything was great and we love the Getaway and Manzanite. We look forward to our next stay!
      Thank you,
      Ethan and Rachel

      Getaway

Left on 08/19/2009 for a stay in August 2009

We arrived early and the lady at the office said she would call us when we could pick up the keys. She never called. The place was very clean and it was peaceful and hey, you can't go wrong with a view of the Oregon Coast. We soon discovered that there were no ice cube trays but when we tried to call down to the office, remembering that Mary emphatically said "call us if you need ANYTHING, that's what we are here for!" the phones didn't work. Someone came and delivered a lawn chair and he phoned the office and told her about the ice cube trays. When we went the next day, she didn't have them. In fact, we were kept waiting until she could free up her personal chit chat time to hear our request. And we didn't have them the 5 days we stayed there. We used measuring cups and made ice cubes 3 at a time. Besides walking the beach at Manzanita, we went to Smuggler's Cove and saw surfers, interesting rock strata, and lots of sea stars in the tide pools. We got the freshest dungeness crab along with canned smoked tuna at Garbaldi, as well as wonderful fresh clam chowder at a little cafe. We found a rock hound guy in Tillamook and spent hours and a few $$ in his backyard full of beautiful rocks. We both got to read a lot and pulled the lawn chairs close to the edge to hear the ocean and sip on wine.

The refrigerator at The Getaway is an under-counter refrigerator. This particular refrigerator is brand new this year--and it came with one tiny ice tray. Standard ice trays do not fit into the small freezer compartment. We offered to buy a bag of ice each day for these renters--but we were told that he already had a bag of ice in his own cooler. We do our best to help our guests--and occasionally we do work miracles. This wasn't one of those times.

My only negative criticism of this lovely spot is that the yard/grass is completely brown except for the myriad weeds. Some lawn maintenance (weed killer and occasional watering) is badly needed.

Lovely, private, few things to look out for

Left on 07/21/2009 for a stay in July 2009

The view was great, loved taking the chairs out by the clifff to watch the view before the wind drove us to the lovely cosy inside. The bed was perfect as was the bathtub which is what got us to this location. However when I called with concerns upon arrival to find pulls a difficulty, several with broken parts (though with skill could make work) on pull shades. Fri. I put all my retreat salad food in refrig, to find sat early am on way to retreat ALL Frozen( turns out someone previously changed setting in refrig) I lost all my lettuce (inion, cheese, yogart recovered ok) but when I called early am nobody called me back. I also reported a bulb out in bathroom- hard to see. When I call sat. after my long day of teaching my call was met with distain and NO appreciation. I was not upset when I called, only wanted some acknowledgement of the problem. It was like I was the problem vs the problems. Very unkind & snappy Mary. When repair gentleman came he was on guard and defensive rather than caring. As he went out the door at least he acknowledged my loosing the supplies for that days lunch. Fortunately we were able to go get replace, not the excellent organic mixed variety I brought from Portland. All was rushed and yet ok. I feel unappreciated esp since this was very expensive choice for me to stay there. Also neighbors dog went on a barking jag friday night at 11 am for 1/2 hour. We watered the plants on the ocean side of house that were very dry- I know its been hot. I would not stay there again- to far from my the com. ct. and students and beach. Still a perfect place for many I am sure.

Our stay at the vacation rental called the Getaway to celebrate our anniversary was picturesque and perfect. Cozy, clean and very comfortable, with hypnotic views from the living room. At night we slept with a window open and listened to the ocean waves far below the cliff our rental was located on. We loved it. The staff were very attentive and helpful, too. We'd use Ocean Edge Rentals again for our next rental need in Manzanita.

The cabin is 2 miles from town. Great for the quiet isolation. Not so good if you want to walk the beach at a moment's notice. The cabin itself is very modern, efficient, and cozy. Check the size of the refrigerator before you go shopping. You may find your gallon milk and 1/2 gallon of ice cream won't fit. If we return to the Oregon Coast we would consider staying here again.

      Heaven on Earth

Left on 07/30/2008 for a stay in July 2008

There was one minor problem with the adult, but immature homeowner next door who protested our quiet presence by blasting country music into our bedroom window for the first two days we were there. We thought it might be an inconsiderate teenager until on the second day he played it for 24 hours straight. The property managers handled it quickly and we consider it only a minor glitch. We rate it one of the nicest stays we've had anywhere, and would return tomorrow if we could!

An amazing place for a "Get Away"!

Left on 07/29/2008 for a stay in July 2008

My husband and I truly enjoyed our time at Getaway House. The house was spotless, comfortable and the views inspiring. From the welcome basket on the table to the soft cozy bed, everything was perfect. The house was well appointed with everything we needed. There was even a nice selection of videos and CDs. The nice people at OceanEdge Vacation Rentals were easy to work with and took great care with every detail. If a couple is looking for a romantic spot, this is just the place. The outstanding view from the property to the beaches below was breathtaking. We watched sea birds soar and listened to the waves breaking while we sipped wine at the outside table. The sunset was beautiful. In the morning, I watched a group of people in sea kayaks make their way along the coast. Our time there was all very special and so relaxing! My only regret is our stay was too short! I hope to return someday soon.
