Muenster, SKGreat stay
Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We had a great stay at Lotus House. It was a perfect arrangement for 3 adults and a baby, but when we return we'll book for 3 couples, which will also work well with the layout. We like to be able to cook our own meals, so Lotus House was preferable to hotel/motel rooms. It was bright and clean, and a perfect distance from downtown to stroll through the shops and stop for coffee. We didn't use our vehicle for anything other than short trips out of town. Great stay - we will return!

Ottawa, CanadaLotus House, a home away from home
Left on 03/02/2013 for a stay in November 2012
Lotus House was our home away from home for four months. It is a 3-bedroom, 2-storey house located in the heart of Nelson, with walking distance to the grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants, coffee houses, retail stores, library, community gym, Capitol Theatre and movie theatre.
Lotus House is comfortable, cozy and spacious. We especially appreciated the quality and comfort of beds and pillows, the well-equipped kitchen and the ability to park in the yard.
Nelson is a great community, with lots to do and see and wonderful people to meet. We will return!!! -

KelownaA whole new experience of Nelson
Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in August 2012
I have been travelling to Nelson for years as a sales rep, always staying at one of the local hotels. Since I had brought my husband and two young children (2 and 5) along for my work trip in august (which we extended into a bit of a holiday), I decided that we needed something bigger than a hotel room to make the stay comfortable. Not only was the Lotus comprabable in pricing to a hotel, but it was spacious for us all, homey, and outfitted with everything we needed and more. The Lotus is in a terrific location, within a few minutes walking distance to Baker Street, and in all reality, within a half hour walk of anything within city limits. While I worked (and had our vehicle) my husband took our double stroller and kids and walked to the lake, the water park, and the outdoor pool. I've always loved Nelson, but staying in a home versus a hotel gave me a much more intimate feel of the town, and both my husband and I fell in love with it, so much so that we deliberated moving there! The Lotus is a terrific accomodation for families (as well as couples, groups...), and Nelson is a wonderful place to visit with children. We will most certainly stay at the Lotus House again.

Left on 07/21/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My husband, son and I went to Nelson for a week's vacation. We loved staying at the Lotus House -- it's really close to town on a lovely tree-lined block, and has lots of space and charm. The landscaping is gorgeous too. This served as a perfect home away from home as we explored the all the beautiful sights in the area. It was a great week, and we hope to return.

Left on 07/12/2012 for a stay in April 2012
I had an absolutely wonderful 5 weeks-stay @ the Lotus House earlier this year. Located only a few block from the main street you have easy access to great restaurants and shops. I can recommend this to anyone, and if I return to Nelson, I would try to book this place again.

The Lotus house was everything we need and more. Its got a ton of space, is beautifully decorated, but feels comfortable and homey. The only downside is that there is one bathroom. So if you have a whole house full you might have a line in the morning. That aside I highly recommend staying here! Its also a very short walk to the best coffee in town!

Left on 12/19/2011 for a stay in September 2011
I've stayed at the Lotus House twice and much prefer it to a hotel or a multi-unit B&B.; The house feels like a home. It's comfortable, has character, privacy, plenty of room (stayed once with two people and once with three adults and four kids --was great having two floors, so the kids could have one to themselves!), two relaxing decks with views of Elephant Mountain, the town and lake, and it's a great location for walking to and from downtown Nelson and around the historic neighbourhoods. [Note: good accomodation for all ages, but need to be okay with stairs)

This house really made our visit to Nelson a true delight. From the views on the balconies, the close proximity to downtown, and the charming decor of the house itself, we were all extremely happy with our choice of the Lotus Vacation House in Nelson. Thankyou!

What a great place! The place was very clean, beds were quite comfortable. Very unique decorating--cool balconies (almost a little scary, it's so high!). Only a couple of drawbacks. There are a lot of stairs, so hauling up luggage wasn't easy. Also, there wasn't a barbecue which is all we cook with--all year round. But otherwise, it was very comfortable. We were worried that there wasn't an air-conditioner with the extreme heat, but the place really cooled off in the evenings, and it was fine throughout the day. Thanks for a great stay!

Left on 06/11/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Checking in was a breeze as John and Margaret provided all the information necessary to enter the house. The house is nicely appointed with a lot of personal/creative touches. The queen size bed is located on the 3rd floor in a large bedroom. The mattress was quite comfortable. There are 2 other full size beds located on the 2nd level, which is where the bathroom is also located. If you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you may not like navigating the stairs. For the two of us, the way the house is situated is just fine. However, if you are a group of 6, you may find it a little uncomfortable to congregate in the kitchen/dining room area as there are no couches or big chairs to sit on. The tv room is located on the 3rd floor along with a couch and futon set-up. It's a nice room, but on a separate floor.
We liked the home because it was within walking distance of downtown Nelson, was well-equiped, had a comfortable bed with nice views from the bedroom, and was in a quiet neighborhood. We recommend it! -

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay august1-8, 2010 in the unique, heritage home of the Lotus House. Lotus House has wonderful artistic touches and the cosy surroundings had us feeling right at home from the moment we walked in. We were only a very short walking distance away from enjoying all the wonderful shops and sampling all the delectable menus in town. We love the historic buildings and the laid back, friendly attitude of Nelson. I would love to be able to one day live out in the Nelson area and hope to have such a great place to stay like the Lotus House offers. Thanks to John & Margaret Stegman!

Left on 08/22/2010 for a stay in July 2010
The house is lovely. Newly remodeled with nice views from the balconies. We had 5 adults and one baby and the house worked really well for us. There is only one bathroom but we made it work. The weather was hot on several days but the house stayed cool with windows and fans.
A nice feature is the house's location to shopping and galleries. Nelson and it's surrounding area is fun to explore. Really pretty. -

Victoria, B.C.Great space in convenient location
Left on 08/22/2010 for a stay in July 2010
This vacation rental consisted of the upper two floors of a heritage home. There were three bedrooms with a double bed in each. The kitchen was large and extremely well stocked. The main floor bathroom was spacious but the plumbing a little ancient and only one bathroom. The house was very spacious and comfortably furnished. The location could not have been more ideal, walking distance to almost everything you would need. Booking the place was very fast and efficient. There was a lockbox to enter the place but everything went so smoothly we didn't need the owner for anything for the first week. Then the fridge stopped working. The owner responded immediately despite it being the start of a holiday weekend and lent us a plug in cooler for the first night and then delivered a new fridge the next day.

We found the Lotus House on the net and it looked like a perfect option for us. We've stayed in Nelson many times and love the place and the Lotus House is perfectly located for enjoying a relaxing visit. It also represents excellent value for what it offers. Only drawback is the fact there is only one bathroom which could prove problematic if all 3 bedrooms were occupied.

I loved staying at the Lotus House. We would definitely return. I wish I could
have stayed longer as it was so comfortable. The location was perfect and the
price was extremely reasonable. The whole house was super clean. The
kitchen was well equipped and there were plenty of bath towels. John
answered emails promptly and was very nice. It was really nice to have a
phone for local calls to restaurants. Being from the US, our cell phone service
was too expensive to use. The only thing that would make the house better
would be another bathroom! I highly recommend Lotus House and a trip to
the area. It is beautiful. -

Left on 01/13/2010 for a stay in January 2010
The house was larger than I expected from the photos which was a pleasant
surprise. There are renters living on the main floor but we didn't hear a thing
from them. The location can't be beat! Easy access to Baker Street with all it's
amenities and easy access out of town to ski Whitewater. The street was quiet
with ample parking. I packed too much stuff as there were, tea towels, dish
soap, laundry detergent, the works. I have stayed in Nelson before and wish I
had found this place earlier. It would have been great for a girls ski trip. I was
a bit worried about the place being a bit too precious since we had our kids
with us (3 years & 11 months) but it's pretty kid friendly. I just had to move
the books to a high shelf and block the beautiful stairway. The one down side
is that it's not as new as I thought it looked from the photos. The bathroom
was starting to show some wear and tear. It's a funky artsy Victorian -pretty
much exactly what you want when visiting a funky artsy town. All in all we
enjoyed our stay and I think it was money well spent compared to the hotels in
the area. Margaret & John were a pleasure to deal with. We'll be back! -

Calgary, Alberta, CanadaThe Lovely Lotus House - Nelson, BC
Left on 01/06/2010 for a stay in August 2009
The Lotus House in Nelson,BC, is a lovely little place to retreat from the chaos of the world. I found a peaceful energy and little touches of art throughout this very comfortable lodging. It has two balcony/patio's where you can relax and overlook the city of Nelson, which is on the beautiful Kootenay Lake. You can enjoy the restaurants or shops downtown which are all within walking distance. If you'd rather eat in you'll find everything you need in the way of a well stocked kitchen and an organic co-op food market also within walking distance. It's quiet and very private. A stay at the Lotus House could be a romantic getaway, a family holiday or a place to read, write and meditate. I am sure I will return again!
