TruroGreat stay at Mistiso's
Left on 05/30/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay in the Purcell Suite at Mistiso's. Maria has a flair for decorating as shown by this well equipped and appointed apartment, with funky furnishings and all of the comforts of home. It is spacious, clean and welcoming, and the beds and futons were comfortable . We loved the living/dining/kitchen area and were able to comfortably serve a meal for eight, as all of the kitchen needs were considered. We loved the central location, just an easy walk to Baker Street. The price was extremely reasonable and we found it the perfect place for a family to vacation. We would highly recommend Mistiso's to anyone traveling to Nelson, looking for a cozy, and central spot for their family.

Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in April 2013
I stayed in the top floor apartment at this property in april 2013. In terms of comfort, I found the bed and furnishings very comfortable. The bathroom is well appointed with a rain shower and a separate claw-foot tub. The kitchen is very functional for a couple or a small family.
As an interior design professional, I really appreciated the thoughtulness which the owner had put into the vibrant color scheme with a slightly mexican/spanish feel. There is plenty of natural light coming in via windows and skylights, which is the benefit of this top floor unit. Being that this is on the top floor, the views over Nelson and the Lake are an added bonus, and the fact that its in central Nelson makes the shopping and restaurants within very easy walking distance. Maria the owner was very pleasant to deal with and check in/check out was very smooth and easy. I look forward to my next visit! -

Lumby, CanadaVibrant little town, perfect accommodation!
Left on 02/24/2013 for a stay in January 2013
My visit to Mistiso's Place was a birthday gift and a truly wonderful experience.. My husband and I had a terrific time. Nelson itself is a charismatic, postcard pretty little town. Nestled on the shores of giant Kootenay Lake against a backdrop of gorgeous mountains, the city preserves its historic past and embraces the present with verve and sass. It's cultured and quirky. Winter or summer, it is a sport enthusiast's heaven, with something for everybody. Our visit was at the end of January and Mistiso's Place, a charmingly restored heritage house in the heart of town, put us in the perfect location for either kicking back in peace and privacy, or choosing to explore on foot or by car. We were in the ground level Silver King Suite and found that the one bedroom, one bath accommodation with its uniquely artistic decor, comfortable furnishings and small but well-appointed kitchen met all our needs and expectations. Maria, Mistiso's personable owner, stopped by our first morning and greeted us warmly, which added to our sense of well being and welcome. The place was also spotless and quiet. And as mentioned, a three minute walk out the door of Mistiso's Place had me exploring the unhurried yet vibrant Nelson streets filled with shops, specialty boutiques, restaurants and cafes, book stores, bakeries, and numerous other venues, all amid a generally friendly ambience. When I returned to our suite, I felt relaxed, content, and thoroughly at home. I would definitely recommend Mistiso's Place to my friends and look forward to visiting again.

We arrived in Nelson, unknowingly one day earlier that our reservation started. We stopped by Mistiso's Place to check in & realized our mistake. We weren't just told to come back tomorrow...instead 2 other suites were opened up to accommodate up last minute. We had a lovely time in Nelson & look forward to returning again soon! Thanks so much!

The place is large and cozy. We enjoyed our stay. The location is great and all amenities were in the suite. Kitchen was well stocked. The one thing we would like to see changed somehow is the way to get into the bath. An ackward way to get in for elderly people.
All in all we would go back and recommend this place to our friends. -

Thank you so very much your time and effort in writing the review.
We were so lucky to have the extended , warm "indian summer" which consequently made it a bit warm in the Kokanee Suite. Sorry about that. We do have the A/C working and a couple of fans but by next summer, we will have a couple of the skylights converted to 'openers' in order to get that cross ventilation effect. It should help with the temperature control in the suite. That is in the works:)
Thanks again and looking forward to your next visit! -

We have just completed a three day stay in the Purcell suite and I have to recommend Mistiso"s whole heartedly. The suite had everything one could need for a comfortable stay. We felt right at home. Cosy and comfortable. The suite is very spacious and easily could handle six people. The kitchen is well appointed with all the pots, pans and dishes you could need. The master bedroom is big enough to accommodate both parents and two young children while the smaller bedroom is good for a couple. The location is perfect for exploring Nelson downtown as you can walk out the door and down the block to Baker street for shopping and dining. It is easy to see that the owners take great pride in offering a fine vacation residence. I look forward to having the opportunity to stay here again.

The Valhalla Suite was clean and comfortable. The furnishing are well thought out and the futon pulled out made a second comfortable bed. The kitchen is supplied with everything you would need to cook meals (and all the cutlery matched)! The rental is walking distance to Baker Street but very quiet in the evening. The internet web page for Mistiso's Place describes it perfectly. We had a wonderful stay.

My husband and I stayed in the Kokanee suite for 4 nights in august and we had a wonderful time. Maria is an excellent host, very attentive and accommodating. The suite looks just the photos... it is very well appointed and had everything we needed for our stay. There are many places to eat in Nelson and the location was great as we could walk to all the coffee shops and restaurants downtown. The suite is large and very comfortable for 2 people. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfy. My parents stayed in the main level Silverking suite and it was also very lovely. Overall we preferred the Kokanee suite (more windows and a better view for instance) but be aware there are quite a few stairs as the Kokanee is on the 3rd level of the house. All in all we highly recommend Mistiso's and would happily stay there again!

The room really reflected Nelson - it was creatively decorated, self-sufficient, cool (which was good because temps were above 30C!), and had Oso coffee in the fridge. The cooking utensils we needed to eat at home were supplied. Location was excellent, though because it was downtown, we'd hear the after-bar crowd some nights. Maria was friendly and offered great suggestions of activities.

Mistiso's was a home away from home. With a small child (22 months) we were not sure what to expect from the place. But it exceeded our expectations. Leo had a lot of fun exploring his home away from home. The decor was amazing. I loved the antique and the mordern combined. Perfect central location, but far enough away that it was quiet. We also made use of the bbq and outdoor patio. Overall a great experience, Maria is a lovely women. Stopped by to check we were doing okay and suggested some things to do around town!

I came to Nelson for a family reunion so I was familiar with the city. I was very happy with the downtown location as easy to walk to shops, restaurants, pub and market. I stayed with elderly mother, disabled sister and 5 year old. Parking was accessable and I liked no stairs at back suite. Decor was very tasteful and suite had all we needed to stay in and cook if we wanted. Easy to recycle containers labelled outside. Only discomfort was the futon is more suited to children than adults. When we had a question we received a very quick response. Great place and hope to be able to return soon and stay again!

This is our third time staying at Mistiso's and won't be our last. I believe we've stayed in every suite/room on offer. This time it was the Valhalla and Selkirk rooms. The main draws of this rental are the comfort, charm and cleanliness. You are in downtown Nelson, handy to shops and restaurants but you have a much needed retreat to return to after your forays out! The owner, Maria, is always available by phone, a fact which really helped us when I locked the keys in the apartment this time! Immediate help meant this was not the disaster it could have been. The free wifi was also a welcome luxury this time round. As I said, we'll be back.

This was our second time staying at Mistiso's Place in Nelson and we were so glad to return. This visit we stayed in the Silverking Guest Suite which was very comfortable and well appointed. Maria is a great host, available for questions and suggestions about things to do in Nelson. The location of these suites is also fabulous. Just on the edge of the main town area, walking distance to restaurants, the Gyro Park (check out the wading pool if you're travelling with little ones), and the lake front. We'll definately be back for future stays in Nelson.

When I was sourcing accommodation for a self-imposed writing retreat, I sent a note of inquiry to Mistiso's Place. Maria called me back within minutes and convinced me that the Kokanee Suite, with its private entrance (off the private balcony), skylights, and general sense of peace, would be for me. I'll always be grateful: it was the perfect place to do a solitary intensive on my book, Losing Farther, Losing Faster, a novel set in the Kootenays. I relished the space and independence, which would have been much more limited in a B&B;, at the same cost. Maria was available but never imposing. The suite itself is beautifully appointed, with separated but connected spaces. My only regret is that I couldn't bring my husband to share it! In any case, I sent off my manuscript on my last day at Mistiso's, and hope to bring my family back to Nelson when it comes out, when we'll sample some of the other suites Maria has on offer.

We found this by chance after visiting the tourist office, it is very comfortable with all that you would want except a dishwasher [which didn't bother us], extremely well maintained.. The Kokanee suite that we were in looked out over the lake and mountains ... a great view ... we had a great time here... it was quiet and in town, just a few blocks from restaurants, shops, museum, etc .. all together just a plain great experience.

For the price of a hotel room, I had a full kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living area with tv and futon (if you needed extra bed space), and dining room. The location is central in town, and there is complimentary parking.Maria was friendly and helpful. I don't really know how you could go wrong staying here!

My stay was for one night and I found my room to have everything and more required. The room was on the top floor with skylights which made it bright and airy. The room had a warm homey feel. Thank you.

Mistiso's is a gem, a lovely place & wonderfully appointed.
A beautiful house in a great location, Private, quiet, clean and relaxing environment, well-kept and close to everything.
...It has everything you need with all the amenities.
The suite was awesome, absolutely adorable, good view to the lake and mountains, and cheerful decor.
The bed is excellent, as good as in any five stars hotel, the bathroom is equipped with hair dryer, shampoo, soaps and luscious towels.
It really exceeded my expectations.
Great attention to detail, recycling carefully planned and well communicated. The entire stay has been a pleasure. I felt at home here.
Very efficient Owner, Maria, keeps her tenants happy and she is behind every detail.
I hope to make a return trip in the near future, I'm already recommending it to my friends and colleagues.
I strongly recommend that you stay at mistiso's place when visiting the Nelson,
Thank you so much for everything.

I arrived in beautiful Nelson, a place I had never been and only told of so many enchanting stories. Here I was going to discover it for myself. I felt so fortunate to have found Mistiso Vacation House. Maria Schuh was absolutley warm, friendly and very inviting and even offered help with my very heavy luggage.
I was fortunate to be able to stay in all of the vacation suites as I was going to be in Nelson for quite some time. She did everything to accommodate my work schedule there to get me into the best long term suite for my needs. I needed quite a bit of room as I would have familiy visiting for Thanksgiveing and having a number of guests for dinner. It turned out wonderfully.
My first suite was the Valhalla, which made me think I was in a little cottage in Tuscany. Very colorful, warm, bright, beautiful windows and super cozy and romantic. I looked forward to going home at the end of the day. After a week, I moved into the Kokanee and had a wonderful view of the Lake. I never closed the drapes, and had beautiful skylites in the room that made it so cheery to wake to in the morning. Everything I possibly needed to make a dinner in was there, music, candles...all you needed was the wine. The little terrace was wonderful to sit out on at night. Again, such a romanitic suite.
My long term stay was in the bottom suite facing the lake, I had a bbq to use, and full dining suite, lots of room for my Thanksgiving Dinner. I especially love the radiant floor heating. It certainly was cozy on those cold winter nights.
All suites were kept immaculate and the decor is very well done. I encourage anyone to stay at Mistiso Vacation House. It certainly was a beautiful expereince for me, one I will not forget! Thank you so much Maria, you truly are an exceptional woman providing an exceptional experience at your beautiful vacation home. All my best to you. Look forward to coming back once again!

The suite was very clean and comfortable. It was nice to have a complete kitchen and a small sitting area outside. The location was 1 block walking distance to the main street of Nelson which was full of excellent restaurants, coffee shops, stores and galleries.

We were only there overnight and didn't get a chance to use all the amenities but it was lovely and I would return. One disappointment was no breakfast but easily found a coffee shop that opened early. THanks!

The service was great . Maria was kind enough to rent us one of the suites at the last minute. It was very clean and well looked after. The location was perfect my husband needs a hip replacement which means everything we needed was central. The only thing I found was the bed needs a new mattress we were sinking in the middle. Other then that ,Perfect!

We stayed a week at Mistiso's with 2 kids and lots of ski gear. The Purcell suite was roomy, comfortable, and convenient for us. We loved being within walking distance to town and the rec. centre, and found the suite more than enough. The only down side is the smallish master bed, and noise from above. The free internet, and local coffee was a real bonus.

We rented the 2 bedroom basement suite for 2 nights and found it to be very comfortable and spacious. We were the only ones at Mistiso place so it was nice and quiet. The house is very centrally located in Nelson, both to Baker street and grocery shopping. The kitchen is well equiped and the TV reception good. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom user friendly although it was a little challenging for our granddaughter to get into the bath.
The suite is nicely decorated and furnished.
