Royal Tunbridge Wells, United KingdomThe most stunning location in Nelson.
Left on 03/16/2013 for a stay in February 2013
How anything is ever done at the family house of the owner is beyond us; the views across the Waimea plain are stunning and it's difficult to tear yourself away from the patio to do anything other than gawp. It would be a prime recommendation to stay whatever the state of the accommodation but the fact that it is clean, modern, spacious and near perfect for four is a considerable bonus. The one small downside for a longer stay is that there is no proper oven facility. Against that there is every other cooking method available and a large and sophisticated barbecue that can, with a little practise, act as an acceptable oven substitute as well. Don't be put off that the location might seem remote. Richmond shops are less than 15 minutes away and the best beach on the whole area at Rabbit Island even less. Who needs the swimming pool when you have such a wonderful beach but it's there just the same; large, clean and inviting?

Lovely place to stay- clean, neat, nicely presented, great location with beautiful views. This was a real pleasure to stay here and a real find in securing this accomodation. The hosts, Gina and Martin were very friendly, and welcomed us to use the pool (wanted to, but time and weather were against us) and wander their farm (cute piglets to feed). The accomodation offers 2 bedrooms, one of which has DB, the other with 2 singles. B

Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We, a family of two parents and two college aged kids, stayed in the cottage in mid September, 2012. We arrived after having been rained on at the glaciers. ..and had wet clothes. Gina and Martin offered to let us use their dryer . ..(there is a washer in the cottage), and ended up drying and folding our clothes! This was above and beyond. The house was designed for maximum ecologically benefit. The heater is wood fired. . .but we were perfectly warm, although stormy outside. We appreciated the Vanners leaving tons of information and brochures about everything, from hiking, to eating. Also, they looked up things for us and gave recommendations that helped tremendously. The cottage is truly private ..but we were always treated well when we went to the "neighbors" to get info or to talk. We would have loved to stay longer. Martin-the crossing was not as bad as predicted. .but thanks so much for the heads-up on the storm warnings! Would definitely stay again.

This is a very comfortable cottage that easily sleeps 4 people and has the capacity to have one more in the lounge. You can relax inside or outside the cottage whilst taking in the spectacular views. In summertime you have access to the owner's swimming pool to cool off in. Situated about 10 mins from Richmond, 15 mins from Mapua and 25 mins from Nelson this cottage is close enough to be handy but far enough away to feel rural. It's friendly owners are very accommodating. We have been twice now and would happily go again!

We loved staying at this house. It is a lovely clean home and the pool is a major plus! The hosts are really nice and easy to talk to. The beds are comfy and the supply of toys for the kids was amazing! The wooden Thomas train set was a hit not just with the kids but hubby as well :-)
The trip into town is short as is the trip to Rabbit Island. Being so high up, it was very cool to see the birds fly below us while sitting outside and the views are spectacular.
Highly recommended. -

When we arrived at we were greeted not only by a lovely looking cottage but also by a magnificent view over the hills and the bay area. The cottage could be better described as a small house; and you could admire the views from every window in the cottage.
The cottage was absolutely fabulous, roomy, relaxing, modern, spotlessy clean and homely.
It is close to Nelson (go to the Swedish Bakery in Bridge Street) and Richmond which is ideal for shopping and also not far from Rabbit Island, Mapua (go see the wharf) and abel Tasman National Park (go see everything there!).
The kitchen was well equipped with many extras such as allfoil, cooking oil, some herbs, dishwasher powder dishcloths, tea, coffee, milk and sugar just to name a few. Excellent shower/bathroom, the king size bed was extremely comfy and there was quality linen and towels throughout.
The wireless Internet was also very handy as was the dishwasher, washing machine and other typical household appliances.
Although we did not use it, there is also a large swimming pool and BBQ for use in the warmer months and in winter the underfloor heating and double glazing would certainly make it all warm and cosy.
Gina was very friendly and helpful during telephone conversations and emails when we arranged the booking and when we actually met the whole Vanner family were incredibly welcoming and made us feel like we had known them for years.
I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone wishing to stay in the Nelson area and wishing to explore the top part of the South Island.

After travelling around the world for 5 months and staying in youth hostels, Golden Hills was the perfect luxury I needed. The Vanner family were incredibly welcoming and helpful as I did not know the area at all.
I would highly recommend this accomadation; in fact I have suggested to my friends and family that they go to New Zealand, in particular Golden Hills.
Thank you once again for your hospitaility and hopefully, in the near future, i would love to come back.Response from Georgina Vanner - 08/22/2010

This is a wonderful, relaxing cottage and perfect for taking in New Zealand. It is a great base for exploring the South Island, set in the heart of beautiful vineyards, yet close to Nelson. It truely does have the best views in Nelson! The accomodation is modern, clean and welcoming. It feels like home and the Vanner family are so accomodating and friendly; always happy to help, yet considerate of your privacy. I will be coming back as soon as I can, and have been recommending this cottage to all my friends. Thank you and see you soon!

What a wonderful time we had staying at Golden Hills Farm Cottage overlooking Nelson and the fabulous scenery around the bay area. The cottage was ideal either as a base to travel from or to relax on those days when we just wanted to stop and reflect. The pool is great and theres a patio area to sit out and enjoy the view. All the local shopping facilities are within a short drive and Nelson airport is close to hire a car. The hosts are a lovely family always willing to help with advice and directions for the traveller. Great time, can't wait to go back.

Georgina was friendly and very considerate by not disturbing us when she took the children to school in the morning, by parking their cars outside the garage. There is internal access to the cottage and this could have been a problem as we did hear anything said when people were in the garage.
The cottage was new and fresh with an excellent outlook.
It was an enjoyable place to stay when we needed a restful holiday.Response from Georgina Vanner - 08/09/2010

As we drove up the Golden Hill, we were hoping and hoping it would be the last house up the hill. And it was! :) What a lovely accommodation with breathtaking view! The hosts were warm and made us feel absolutely comfortable. We have stayed in various accommodations in Nelson, and this is one of the rare few that we would want to return. We look forward to be back!

The view is amazing from every window and the patio. The accommodation is brand new and very well appointed. The washing machine and dishwasher were added bonuses. The hosts couldn't have been more accommodating and thoughtful. We would have stayed longer if it wasn't already booked! Definitely our new home when going through Nelson.
