Left on 02/25/2013 for a stay in February 2013
Our stay here was fantastic the house and view both equally lovely. Everything we needed to make our time in the house as easy as possible was there.
Situated looking over Nelson you get the chill out factor but not to far away to see the main attractions of Nelson.
Thank you again for making our stay so pleasurable and for the hospitality.
Would highly recommend for a family group. -

We stayed at Lou and Johnny's beautiful beach house in December. Fantastic place with stunning views and a very warm welcome from our hosts. Excellent as a base to explore abel Tasman Park but we didn't stay long enough, there is much more to see in the area...next time. Best Fish and Chips are at The SmokeHouse at Mapua Wharf washed down with the local brew at the Golden Bear Brewing Company. One more point to mention, the kitchen is supremely equipped and it even has it's own colander (Thank you Lou and Johnny!!!)

Shanghai, ChinaWonderful Christmas!
Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We had a wonderful Christmas at atatu Beach House. The location was lovely - gorgeous view from the house. It was well stocked with cooking utensils - as we were making/grilling our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals.
As both of the days we were there were quite warm (27 C), the house was hot - especially when we first arrived. The first day the ceiling fans worked, but the second day they didn't. Not sure what happened.
Location of the cottage was great. Although the water is right across from the house, it was a rock/pebble beach. So, we drove to Kaiteriteri Beach - north along the coast - for Christmas day. What a nice change from the cold winter of the us and China!
Lou was fantastic and got gave us all the info we needed. It was a wonderful place and I would recommend it to others. -

The co owners were very accommodating and ensured everything was in place for our stay. The home itself was very comfortable and all the things we looked for we found, so it was a home away from home! We loved that it was away from town, yet close enough to drive to shops. Our two nights here were definitely one of the highlights of our South Island trip!

The bach was lovely and provided a great view every morning watching the sunrise over Nelson and the bay. Awesome walks along the beach. The bach was also really well kept, and was nice to have all the little amenities as well as little extras like coffee and tea! There were 4 adults and 2 children in our party all enjoyed it there. Great location enabling easy transport to all major places of interest around.

Atatu Beach house is exactly that, at the beach. We had a great stay and the kids loved the position and spent most of their time on the beach. The house itself was well set out for our family and the facilities were everything we needed. The kitchen is very well equipped too. All in all a wonderful stay, in a clean welcoming home in a beautiful location.

This is a spacious 2 bedroom home, master with ensuite, with a mezzaine floor with 2 additional single beds. The decor is fresh and comfortable. The entire house was immaculately clean. It has a good sized kitchen with plentiful crockery, cutlery and condiments) and a large family sized dinning table. The conservatory is an ideal place to enjoy the panoramic views of the beach across the road. Very minor point only, could have used some additional bath towels.

The house was beautifully clean, very thoughtfully equipped and comfortably furnished. The property layout suited us perfectly as the grandparents could have a bit of privacy and their own bathroom whilst the extra bathroom and mezzanine upstairs worked well for parents and kids. Very handy to Motueka, vineyards and Nelson and just a walk down to the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Left on 05/15/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We had the privilege of staying at “Atatu” recently for three days. Situated overlooking Kina Beach, close to the Tasman Golf Course, surrounded by nearby wineries and neat cafes, this is a wonderful retreat for those wanting a relaxing holiday.
We were impressed with the facilities provided and the quality of the amenities. Two mountain bikes (plus helmets) and tennis racquets are provided for those guests who feel energetic.
The beds are glorious to sleep in and the décor is clean and “sharp”.
We will definitely be back to stay at “Atatu” because we enjoyed it so much. -

Thank you for the time in your lovely holiday home. We loved the sun, view, comfy beds, and walks to the beach. Fantastic region for a break with beaches, walks, markets, and wineries just some of the activities. Will definitely be back!

Left on 04/14/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We went with special friends to spend a week in the lovely house, sat in the conservatory reading and enjoying the sun and of course the amazing views over Tasman Bay. With two bathrooms and bedrooms equipped with large wardrobes and plenty of hangers. Atatu has everything you would possibly need. Plenty of cafes & eating places to go to between Mapua and Moutueka. A boat ride up the estuary at Mapua will worth doing and good value at $5.00 per person, then back to buy fish & chips from the "Smokehouse" and sit by the water to enjoy. Or go over to the "Golden Bear" a local boutique brewery where they also serve nice food. Walks to the beach and collecting mussels a must. Would recommend this as a lovely restful place to while away the hours, and it would be a great base for overseas visitors to explore the Nelson-Tasman area. If you get over to Collingwood take the road to Heaphy Track and find the "Naked Possum Cafe" where in season you can have lunch as well as walk some tracks.

We found that 'Atatu'gave us great family accommodation with unforgettable sweeping views across Golden Bay from D'Urville Island down to Nelson City..sunrises you wouldn't believe! There was every possible amenity to be enjoyed including a great BBQ and backyard/garden area. It was immaculate and obviously the owners took great pride in making sure that everything was well presented.
We will recommend it to friends and family alike.
Although this was our 3rd trip to Kina it still remains one of those idyllic spots offering plenty of activity opportunities with not only the usual beach walks but also the fresh mussels to be found at low tide. Its proximity to Mapua and Motueka made it an ideal hopping off point for the Tasman/Golden Bay area. Recommend a trip 'over the hill' to Takaka and further north to Collingwood..

Loved waking up hearing the ocean and watching sun rise over Tasman Bay. This holiday home is packed full of all the amenities to make it homely yet it has a relaxed contemporary feel. The new beds were heavenly. Great outdoor BBQ area and amazing garden. Perfectly located between Nelson and abel Tasman National Park - we used this as our base for 5 days of exploring the upper South Island on our honeymoon...could have spent another week there! Will definitely return with the family and the boat as there is plenty of space. Lou was fabulous to deal with.

Fast, friendly & precise initial contact and details from owners. House was lovely and clean on arrival. We were 2 couples and the separate bathrooms suited well. Great views from the sunlonge and a hop/skip/jump to kina beach, just across the small reserve right infront of the house. Handy central location to explore the surrounding areas by car - lots to do within a half hour radius. I imagine it would be a good place for families - plenty of space.

We stayed at atatu Beach House over Christmas, and had a fantastic time. The views over the sea (and very handy swimming beach) were great, and the location was perfect for exploring the top of the South Island. The house is well equipped, so that we were able to cook a gigantic Christmas dinner (including pavlova and pancakes), store the leftovers in the fridge, and digest it all on comfortable sofas enjoying the peace and quiet. Would recommend to anyone heading that way!

We enjoyed our time at atatu very much. The house is in tip-top condition and very comfortably furnished. It sleeps 6 very comfortably, but families would need to be aware that some of the beds are on the mezzanine floor above the lounge, which can be tricky if you have children who go to bed earlier than parents (or teenagers who want to sleep in late!). The view from atatu is lovely, and our children had great fun on the beach exploring rock pools and hunting for crabs. If you're looking for a perfect swimming beach, it's only a short drive to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. In fact, I'd say that is one of the great strengths of this cottage: it is beautifully placed to allow you to explore the whole region. Oh, and I almost forgot - it's just down the road from a golf course! A great place for a family holiday or for anyone who wants a relaxing break. - highly recommended.
