Oka Cottage, fully self contained bed and breakfast cotttage, sits in the hilltops above the village of Wakefield. A peaceful rural setting 15 mins south of Richmond or 25 mins from Nelson New Zealand.
Oka Cottage sits in its own private garden separate from the main farm house making it a perfect holiday retreat. These sheltered gardens have BBQ facilities.
There are a number of outdoor living spaces to enjoy the sun, the clean clear air and the uninterrupted views of the Richmond Ranges and Mount Arthur.

Turn off SH6 into 88 Valley
Continue down 88 Valley and turn left into Totara View Road. Follow Totara View Road until you see the OKA Cottage sign, then follow the driveway to the front of the cottage.

We feel so lucky to have found Oka Cottage.
My family of three has stayed there four times in the last three years since my daughter was born.
Each time we stayed for a month. We will continue to book here every year, we love it!
The cottage is roomy enough even when my Mum joins us for a couple of weeks.
Everything is always beautifully clean, and Elspeth adds personal touches of fresh flowers from her garden and some baking to welcome us.
The beds are very comfy, the linens new and fresh.
The kitchen has all you need. No oven, but there is a large toaster oven that I have cooked many roasts in, enough to feed five - including hungry men!
There is a great gas BBQ.
The shower has loads of hot water. The washing machine does the job. No dryer but with Nelson sunshine the wash is dry in no time.
I love the heat pump. So nice to have aC in the summer.
The telly only gets the three channels, but it is a nice new flat screen and we just plug it in to our computer and watch our recorded stuff. There is a DVD player, and the video store is just down the road.
Ask Elspeth for weekly cheap free range eggs. Delicious!
This is such a lovely quiet location. Never woken up early by anything. Very relaxing to sit on the deck in the morning and listen to the birdsong.
You can see the ocean from the living room. So nice.
It is just a stones throw to lovely white sand beaches, wineries, art galleries, hiking, biking, golfing, and shopping. Nelson city is about 40 mins away, but Richmond is only 20 mins and has everything. You do need a car.
The owners are lovely, and will give you as much or as little attention as you want. Elspeth and Don respect the privacy and autonomy of the renters.
Oka Cottage is yours while you are in it. Any minor mishaps have been dealt with quickly and efficiently.
It like having the best neighbors in the world.
I highly recommend this little slice of heaven for your holiday home.

We have stayed in the cottage three times now for a week each January. We love it as is it very peaceful but has the pool for the kids (we spend ages there and our two kids have gained lots of confidence), the kids have space to run around and we love the quietness. We like to explore the area and do daytrips to rabbit island (with bikes), up the coast to the various beaches and have lunches out, pick berries etc. Most of the time we get fantastic weather and we always know we are going to have a great relaxing time so we keep coming back! Espeth and family are friendly, the cottage has everything we need and we feel very much at home there.
