We wanted a location from which we could explore the Pennines, Lake District and Hadrian's Wall and Keepers Cottage fit the bill perfectly.
Quite a remote location in some ways but well connected, as it was easy to visit both the Lake District on the one side and the beautiful city of Durham on the other.
The cottage is well-equipped and furnished to a very high standard. The weather was beginning to get cooler but the cottage remained snug with no hint of the dampness often found in older buildings. It proved to be the perfect location for our ramblings and sight-seeing and a good place to rest and relax at the end of each day. Beautiful views across the valley and a field of alpaca, to watch.
We were welcomed with a basket of fruit and bottle of wine - both much appreciated!
The kitchen is well-equipped with a good sized fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, dishwasher and a good selection of the necessary pots, pans and cooking utensils. The downstairs garden room comes complete with an additional kettle, for preparing hot drinks while admiring the fantastic view.
The bedroom is comfortably furnished with good attention to detail. I made good use of the electric blanket most nights.
The bathroom is also well fitted out and of quite a generous size.
The upstairs living room is comfortable and very pleasant though we rarely used it, prefering the garden room downstairs most nights.
Due to its location the cottage is wonderfully peaceful. For me, the perfect spot! Read more
