We just got back yesterday. This place is really great. Very secluded, quiet and very comfortable. We had rain for few days so that kind of spoiled the overall experience but we had good books so it was really relaxing. You will need to rent a car as you can't get around without it. I wish island had more locally produced food but you can find some in the market. Beach is really nice and you mostly have it for yourself. Island people are relaxed, nice and friendly. Whole place is not very commercialized and that is exactly what we have hoped for.
It gets cooler at night so make sure you have light sweater to wear.
Irene and Steve are wonderful hosts. Could not have asked for better. They make you feel at home from the start.
I would recommend this place to people who are looking for quiet vacation. If you are after night life, this might not be the place for you. -

Jersey City, NJAn amazing Retreat!
Left on 04/10/2013 for a stay in March 2013
If you're looking to escape from it all and completely recuperate from the frenzy of "life", this is the place for your retreat. Irene and Steve made us feel so welcome, treating us to a home-cooked meal and allowing us to totally chill among the Nevis rainforest's harmonizing birds and gentle breezes.
Their cozy and beautifully built separate guest house, off some distance from the main house, is complete with a mariner's aesthetic of naval paintings and antique furniture, providing the perfect backdrop for your get-away. While you can dreamily delve into the collection of world travel books assembled on shelves from Irene and Steve's countless international boat voyages, you can also just as easily fall asleep in the porch hammock to the music of the forest. Or break out the binoculars and enjoy the hummingbirds swarming about the surrounding trees.
We are hoping to be back soon! -

Arlington, VirginiaThe Love Shack- The rainforest house in Nevis.
Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in March 2013
There are so many wonderful things to say about our experience in Nevis. My partner, Andy and I just got back a week ago from staying in "The Love Shack". First of all, I can not say this enough- Steve and Irene are the absolute best Hosts we have ever experienced. They truly made the trip for us. They went out of their way several times to make sure our plans ran smoothly. They picked us up from the dock, brought us to get out car and they provided us with drinks and a wonderful meal. They were incredibly accommodating, friendly and fun! They made a lasting impression on andy and I.
The cottage is amazing and the view is incredible. The hammock is wonderful to relax in, there is a spacious deck and an incredible view from the roof. The living area is spacious as well and the kitchen is fully stocked. If you are coffee drinkers, they have a coffee maker as well. You may want to bring some of your favorite coffee with you, as coffee on the island is pretty expensive and the local restaurants don't always have the good stuff =)
I have absolutely nothing but amazing things to say about the hosts, the accommodations and the "Love Shack". One morning I woke up to a sound outside the window and looked out to see 15-20 monkeys just hanging out around the front of the cottage in the trees. It was amazing! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone and will go back in a heart beat.
Thank you Steve and Irene! We will never forget you and will hopefully be back one day!

Hereford, United KingdomA slice of heaven with the best of hosts
Left on 02/19/2013 for a stay in February 2013
Irene and Steve Macek are the best of hosts and they welcome you into their little piece of heaven. What we needed in this holiday was the chance to completely chill out after a very hectic year. We could not have chosen a more perfect spot and we loved the cabin and its situation in the rainforest. Steve had crafted the cabin and it reflected his love of boats in its finish and nautical themes. The cabin had everything we wanted including a large balcony which cantilevered over the forest. This balcony was complete with outside dining table and chairs, day bed, bar and stools and hammock and was one of our favourite places to be. We fell asleep to the sound of the forest, and woke up to the playful games of the shy vervet monkeys outside the kitchen window.
The cabin is one large living area with separate areas for a private bathroom/shower room and a working galley kitchen. The living area included large comfortable sofas, coffee table and a four poster bed.
We just loved Nevis and its people. There was a lot to see and do and we immersed ourselves in its history. We followed the history trail and looked at the churches and plantation houses that have a great deal of age and interest. The Hermitage Plantation Great House within easy walking distance of the cabin is a great place for a meal and chilling out in the surroundings of this lovely historic house.
If you like walking, this is also possible and would particularly recommend walking to The Source from the Golden Rock Hotel, takes about 4 hours.
The beaches and snorkelling were also great and our favourite amongst the many choices was Herberts Beach as we often had it to ourselves.
To get the best out of the holiday I would suggest you rent a car at least part of the holiday as there is so much to see and do.
We will certainly be returning again before too long and look forward to meeting up again with Irene and Steve.

My husband and I visited Nevis and stayed here in February 2012 and had such a delightful experience. Steve and Irene picked us up from the ferry port and had a hot dinner--with dessert-- all ready for us. The little cottage is secluded, up in the mountains, where you can enjoy the monkeys and the beautiful view of the ocean from the giant porch. The living quarters are cozy, but fully equipped for cooking and sleeping -- and mostly reading and napping on the porch. We wish we could take this cottage with us everywhere we travel. It is so obviously a work of love by Steve and Irene and we were so glad we found it and stayed there.

My wife and I spent an incredible week relaxing in a wonderful cottage surrounded by tropical foliage, birds, monkeys and a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea. Steve and Irene are wonderful hosts with boundless knowledge of Nevis and the Caribbean. We topped our stay off with a sail on their Schooner "Star", The perfect ending to a fabulous week. We will definitely do it again.

Petersfield Hampshire EnglandAlternative Lifestyle Luxury in Tropical Paradise
Left on 02/09/2011 for a stay in January 2010
The owners Steve and Irene were wonderful hosts and directed us to all the best places to roam, eat and visit. We had arranged for Irene to provide provisions ahead of our arrival and it exceeded our expectations. She is an experienced and talented host with years of yachts chartering experience, not something you would expect to find in a rainforest hide away. .
The Love Shack has been lovingly and solidly constructed from purple heart and is raised high above the forest floor on massive stilts providing stunning views across the island to the ocean where Steve's Schooner can be seen sparkling at mooring in the morning and returning at sun set. His self-sufficient nautical lifestyle can be seen every where from the varnished floors and walls to the recycled ships fittings. The home is a masterpiece of alternative luxury.
This is a magical place. You feel like you have the whole island to yourself up here at 800 feet but you can walk to the Hermitage down a little used trail for breakfast or up the mountain for some realy stunning views, yet Charlestown is a just few minutes' drive down the road.
We realy enjoyed the apparent isolation peace and tranquillity; it's like living a fairy tale. Be warned, having to return to reality is not easy from here.

My partner and I wanted a "get away from it" all vacation and wow did we find it! This secluded accomodation is set amongst the forest on the slopes of Nevis, about 10 minutes drive from Charlestown. Irene and Steve Macek, the owners, are a warm friendly couple who made us feel most welcome in our unique cottage. We also recommend chartering their boat, the schooner Star, for the day! All round we had a fantastic vacation and will be back!

What an idyllic place to spend time away from it all. Totally secluded nest, high up in jungle with cool nights, unbelievable views and a fantastically comfortable feel. The owners have done an outstanding job of making this eco-friendy nest one with its element. Nothing is lacking and every return from a day exploring the island has you feeling at home! If you are looking for the true Nevis experience, there is no better place to start.
