If you're looking for the perfect escape, come discover the Old Goat House, a tranquil retreat high above the Guadalupe River, right at the ever-so-popular horseshoe.
The Old Goat House is conveniently located to beautiful Canyon Lake, River Road, New Braunfels and Historic Gruene, where all the good antique shops are, as well as many unique shops where artisans sell their wares. Not only does Gruene have lots of shopping and good food, it is also home of the famed "Gruene Hall, which has served as a springboard for many Texas musicians. A great place for dancing or just enjoying the music. After a couple of beverages, you might find yourself learning the Texas Two-Step!
If you want to see one of the most beautiful spots in the Texas hill country, take a drive down River Road, one of Texas' best kept secrets! It is a slow, 20mph drive, along the river's edge, winding about the most beautiful scenery, under the canopy of century-old Oaks, rocky cliffs- true Texas splendor! It is also the popular spot for campers and RV enthusiasts. You'll ride for about 40 minutes and end up in New Braunfels .
The Old Goat House is also close to the famous outlet malls, in San Marcos, just in case you get tired of playing in the river. "Schlitterbahn", a wonderful water park is located in New Braunfels, and makes far a great day trip with the kids. Boating, water-skiing, jet skis and sailing can be found at Canyon Lake, only a five minute drive from your house. You can go hangout at the marina and have a cocktail while you watch the sunset and the sailboats come in from sailing the lake. Watch for deer and other wildlife along the way!
You will be a short 35-mile drive from San Antonio where you will find Six Flags, Fiesta Texas, Sea World, the famed San Antonio Riverwalk as well as fantastic Mexican food. The Alamo, along with several other missions located in San Antonio, are fantastic for a day out. If you don't care to drive, there are numerous tour buses that can take you to experience the sights and sounds of San Antonio.
The state capitol of Texas is located just 40 minutes away in Austin, which has great nightlife featuring many of Texas' finest musicians. You never know what great and noted name will appear at some out-of-the-way bar!
For you golfers, there are courses located in New Baunfels as well as San Antonio. Austin is home of some of the finest courses America has to offer.
And let's not forget about the fishing! There's great fishing all around this place!
This location is the BEST on the river. You can float in the river or raft it, find a nice place to sit on the limestone outcropping to watch others play, or just enjoy the the privacy of your own deck as you relax. During the fall, there are many festivals in the area, including "Oktoberfest" and "Wurstfest". New Braunfels is also home to Texas' oldest County Fair.
The hardest thing is deciding what to do next! There is always something fun and exciting going on --really all year long!

We had a group of 12 that were looking for a place to stay for the weekend to see a concert at White Water ampitheatre. I wanted to make sure everyone was 'safe' this weekend so we were looking for a place walking distance to the concert venue, and you can't get much closer than The Goat House! The house was nice and open inside making it easy to put down an air mattress or two to accommodate all of us! the back patio was big and a perfect place for all of us to hang out. It is also walking distance to several tube rentals. It was nice to not have to worry about having to drive anywhere once we were there. I have been organizing and renting cabins for the past 3 years in New Braunfels and this was by far my favorite! I am hoping to 'hold' our spot for 2 concerts next summer, and look forward to staying here next year! Thanks Ron for having us!

This is our first time staying at the Old Goat House. We normally stay at another location, but because of double booking, we were sent here and I couldn't have been any happier! The interior of this house has a fun, modern cabin decor with flatscreen tv's in every room. The house was very clean and a fun place to have a large group gather for the weekend!. The location was awesome too. It was just a quick, short walk to the river and to the Whitewater amphitheater! We definitely liked that there was a code and not a key to open the house. Made it more convenient than worrying about the possibility of losing them! Our group had the best weekend ever at the Goat house and we can't wait to book again!
