Description from the owner

Experience the warmth of real New Orleans hospitality in the heart of the city's most popular music district, Frenchmen Street, adjacent to the French Quarter in the Faubourg Marigny. Established in 1805 the "Marigny" was established down river from the French Quarter as New Orleans first suburb. This tastefully renovated "Suite" comes equipped with a living room, bedroom, travertine tiled bath and private entrance. Great for entertaining on your own balcony overlooking the new art market and the Frenchmen Street music scene. Circa 1861, the building has typical high ceilings, chandeliers, hardwood floors, cable, central air, and much mu...Read more

      Frenchman Street at its best!

Left on 04/26/2013 for a stay in November 2012

We stayed in this apartment last year whilst at a conference in Nola, rather than stay at the conference hotel. What a great idea that was!
Where to start, I wonder. First the location is just amazing - assuming you like music. It's bang in the middle of the action of Frenchman street, where you can observe and listen to the music and atmosphere from the huge balcony, if you're not in the mood to go down into the street to party every night.
The owner, Sylvia is a gem. She was so helpful with everything, including the flowers and bottle of wine left for us. She and partner live a couple doors away, but don't worry, she will only appear if you need some assistance. Otherwise you're left in privacy to enjoy yourselves.
The apartment itself is spacious, comfortable and has a kind of decadent style about it. Very Nola and very Frenchman. I really just love this place and wish I were nearer so could just pop back.
I prefer staying in Frenchman to being in the Quarter. Somehow feels more authentically Nola and as I love music, it was utter joy.

Sadly I don't seem to have taken any photos of the apartment - very stupid!
The only thing I would say is, I can't imagine why it's taken me nearly 1 year to write this review. Thank you so much Sylvia. We had a fab time and hope to return soon.

Our new favorite place to stay in New Orleans!

Left on 03/26/2013 for a stay in April 2012

My husband and I stayed at this absolutely fabulous Frenchmen Street apartment for 2 weeks. It was the best time we've ever had in New Orleans, and we have been there multiple times. We were right in the center of the best music scene, with top name clubs surrounding us on all sides. Sure, it can get noisy, and the music from the nearby clubs may go on into the wee hours, but if you love the music as we do, it's just an additional "lagniappe" that comes with the place ... and there are so many! The balcony is huge, and looks right over the most exciting block of Frenchmen Street. The accommodations are comfy, cozy, with exotic touches and colorful decor. Sylvia was the perfect hostess. She's there when you need her, but never 'in your space' if you get my meaning. We were there during French Quarter Fest, and seriously cannot believe there's a better location to be for that wonderful event. Besides the best local music venues a few steps from the door, there is an excellent assortment of restaurants within a few blocks if you don't feel like venturing far. We found a laundromat about a block away and even met some great locals while doing the wash. I can't say enough great things about the place. We are hoping to get back before the year's out, but must be careful not to wait to make plans...the rental keeps booked especially during local festivals (of which there are so many!), so be aware and book early.

The most perfect place to stay if you love music. Spotless and well decorated. Very tasteful. Maybe not a good idea if you cannot do stairs but that is the only hesitation I would give anyone. The only way it could be improved would be potholders for the oven. Done...that is it.

Location, Location, Location - Nola 2013

Left on 02/23/2013 for a stay in February 2013

My wife and I booked this location via Tripadvisor and were not disappointed! Sylvia picked us up at the airport as promised and gave us some tips for our stay. Being this was not our first time to Nola we asked for a "local" point of view. She delivered as promised with the suite, large rooms with plenty of local flair. Don't bother packing any HBa items, down to the tooth paste is provided.
We booked 9 nights and enjoyed everyone of them. Very large outdoor "gallery" - (balcony) to enjoy our morning coffee and an afternoon snack before Frenchmen Street comes alive! We stopped and purchased some adult beverages that we consumed outside also while watching the locals being locals. The Spotted Cat is directly across the street and DBa is next door towards the river and Snug Harbor is next door up river. Be sure to take in the Charmaine Neville show at Snug Harbor on Monday Night - she even gave me a hug before the show!
Don't worry all the things that happen in the French Qtr are just a few blocks away and we walked all the time except the evening we decided to go to Harrah's which was only $10 each way. Btw the casino was not built with my money and brought $ home with me!! We are a couple in our 50's and we usually walked for an evening meal and never felt threatened walking home. Yes, you walk past people not as fortunate as most middle class people but again you are a visitor in New Orleans.
Sylvia & Jason are only a phone call away to help make your stay enjoyable. Being to refresh towels or delivering a couple extra rolls of toilet paper. Thanks again for your attention!
When we return this will be our destination again.

Left on 01/07/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Loved the flat! Nice décor, plenty of room, fun balcony/deck. The café two doors down was excellent, as were the art fair/market (we bought wonderful paintings for Christmas gifts), The Spotted Cat (great music), the neighborhood was safe and interesting to walk around.
However, if you’re looking to get sleep, the noise level here is too much, so take ear plugs. It wasn’t the music, but the continuous dumping of beer bottles from the surrounding bars and apparently the dumpsters are just outside the bedroom window.
Our hostess, Sylvia, picked us up at the airport, told us stories, was most accommodating to our schedule and made the reservation process a breeze.
      Overall fun and centrally located.

We felt so lucky to have found this gem. There wasn't a reason for us to leave the Marigny. We spent every evening having dinner on the balcony listening to the music pour out of the Spotted Cat. Our nights were spent going from club to club listening to the greatest music on the planet. The restaurant right next door served the best dishes.( Cafe Rose Nicuad) Sylvia was a gracious host. We enjoyed her stories on our trip to the airport. She truly loves this city. Just as we do. She made us feel more like old friends. We will stay here whenever we return to Nola.

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying here! The apartment is in the center of the best music and food New Orleans has to offer. The decor is authentic, eclectic, and up to date. Tall ceilings, a huge bathroom with a wonderful walk in shower. and a beautiful queen size comfortable bed. A bakery with excellent bread and pastries was a short walk away. Bourbon Street is a few short blocks away, if that is on your list. Frenchmen Street is the place to be for the best New Orleans music, and we were directly in the center. Amazing...we could walk to Snug Harbor, the d.b.a., the Spotted Cat, and many others. I so appreciate that Sylvia, the owner, has made this place available for others to experience. It is a treasure, and we will be coming back!

What a great place. From the minute we were picked up by Sylvia at the airport to the last hugs as we left, we felt completely at home.
The location couldn't be better - especially if you like music. Shopping is easy at the market, just a few blocks away. The tram is also an easy walk from the apartment.
The apartment itself had everything we needed. It was bigger and better than we expected (the pictures don't do it justice), and the balcony was wonderful for breakfast, and again after the sun went down.
There were four of us - three adults and a two-year old. The apartment easily fit us without feeling at all crowded.
Sylvia was the perfect hostess. She felt like an old friend from the minute we met. She's a great source for what's going on in the city. She was always there if we needed her, but not intrusive at all.
If you're trying to decide between a couple of places to stay as we were, choose this one. You won't regret it!

We honeymooned in New Orleans recently, and stayed at this beautiful Jazz Suite on Frenchmen Street.
The apartment cannot be faulted. It's spacious, clean, and oozes character. The balcony is the icing on the cake, overlooking The Spotted Cat, we spent every evening having a drink or two together, enjoying the atmosphere and live music before going out for dinner - and you are spoilt for restaurant choices in this area!
Do yourself a favour and book Jazz Suite...If you consider staying anywhere else, you are mad.
The location is ideal, and has such an authentic feel. Although you will spend most of your time out and about, it feels so good to come back to this 'home' every night.
Our second trip to New Orleans is already being planned, and this time we are bringing some family over. Since being there, we cannot stop thinking about it, we are in love.

We are forever grateful for the hospitality and warmth Sylvia showed us on our Honeymoon to New Orleans. We will be back. If you are ever in australia we are more than happy to return the favour!

I am also more than happy to provide further information to anyone from a visitor's point of view, but honestly, this place is a real gem...our New Orleans 'home'.

      Stay Here!

Walk through the kitchen window ( i love saying that! ) onto a balcony that could easily fit fifty
of your friends & soak in the sounds of the real New Orleans.
"The view ", in terms of people watching is great, but its "The Hear" that sets this place apart from the rest.
Frenchmen blows Bourbon away when it comes to an authentic musical experience and this amazing apartment puts you right in the heart of all the action.
With great live bands playing at venues like, Snug Harbor on the left, DBa on the right, The Spotted Cat across the street & a dozen more bars & clubs and within two or three blocks, Suite Jazz is the ideal place to stay for music lovers.

It was for us, like living as a local, in New Orleans for a week as opposed to a typical "hotel room" feel.
The apartment is spacious and has a sensual decor with festive and fun touches throughout.
Comfy bed, high ceilings, hardwood floors.
When we weren't sampling all the fabulous food this city has to offer, we cooked our own meals in a well appointed kitchen.

Taken care of. Thats how we felt our entire stay. Sylvia, the owner is outstanding!
All the great local insight, recommendations and words of wisdom on navigating New Orleans. Booking front row tix at a sold out Snug Harbor show.
Picking us up & dropping us off at the airport, she really knows the meaning of the word hospitality.

      I'll finish as I started:

My husband and I traveled to Nola for a wedding, went the week before to enjoy the local culture. We stayed at the Jazz Suite and were amazed by the rental and the French town location. The owner even picked us up at the airport!

The rental is a second floor unit, clean and right in the heat of things. Within a few blocks of this Frenchtown area, there are jazz clubs, restaurants of all types , fun local bars and an interesting grocery store/deli. A very large furnished balcony overlooks the Spotted Cat Jazz club 20 feet across the street. Awesome!

As far as getting to the Bourbon street activities,it is about a 12 block walk, you can also cab it or catch a trolley about two blocks away. From this place, we went to a suite at the Hilton for the wedding festivities which was convienent, but missed the cultural home feeling of the Jazz Suite.

We highly recommend this rental and hope to return!

If you stay anywhere else, to put it bluntly, you are so dumb! This has to be the best location, value, and best ambiance could ever want. My 3 friends and I stayed here for my 30th, and it blew them away as soon as we entered the beyond charming suite. One of my friends had stayed at the Frenchman Hotel a few weeks prior for his birthday, and was so disappointed he didn't stay here instead. Miss Sylvia is a wonderful host; she even picked us up from the airport! I was sad to leave, and can't wait to return. If you're looking for romance, it's got it. If you're looking for location, it's got it. If you're looking for ridiculously inexpensive place to crash while you get your party on, this is it! The trip was wonderfully perfect, and Suite Jazz was a big reason why.

      The perfect location

A perfect location and everything that you need already waiting for your arrival. A wonderful place to be at night after your sight seeing through the day. We stayed five nights and did not even make it to all the clubs that were within a few hundred yards. We look forward to going back.

      Jazz Fest 2011-Girls trip

Left on 05/13/2011 for a stay in April 2011

This is the place to stay! We have stayed in the Quarter, but the Marigny is very unique and is a Neighborhood by day and a Mecca of music at night. Regardless of the time of day or night, there is always something to do. Suite Jazz was the perfect place, charming, private and "the" place to be. We had 3 girlfriends stay, but had 2 others that stayed in The Quarter, and they spent more time on the balcony at Suite Jazz with us! From about 1pm on into the late night, you can sit on the balcony and listen to live music coming out of The Spotted Cat, which is directly across the street, or from d.b.a. or Snug Harbor which is directly below the apt. Sylvia (owner/hostess) is really helpful and extremely knowledgeable. We didn't want to leave! Sylvia, be prepared because the Texas Girls will be back!

      Great Girls Trip

Left on 05/04/2011 for a stay in April 2011

I hate to write this review and let the world know about this great place of Sylvia's. It will probably only serve to make it harder for me to stay here in the future :o)
This was my second trip to Nola. The first we stayed on Bourbon St. Bourbon is fine if you want to just party. Frenchman St is a whole different world then Bourbon St and staying at Suite Jazz gives you a front row seat to it all. During the day you have a view of the day to day life and at night you can witness Frenchman St come to life with local talents of all kinds...from flash mobs to singers to musicians, you will see it all.
Sylvia, the owner, was just a phone call away at all times. She gave us some great tips and advice of things to do and things not to do. She even offered to load us and all our luggage up and take us to the airport when our stay was over. We couldn't have asked for a better host.
Suite Jazz was great as well..looks kinda small from the pics on here, but it wasn't at all! It is very roomy. There were three of us girls that stayed there but we could have easily fit more. Two friends of our also went but stayed elsewhere. They ended up spending as much time as they could at Suite Jazz and ended up wishing they had stayed with us rather then the hotel they chose. Sylvia also provides a twin and queen size air mattress besides the queen size bed. The cd player and jazz cd's was also a nice touch..The shower was beautiful, plenty of towels, wash cloths, hand towels and linens.
So in closing, Thank you Sylvia for the best vacation I have ever had! We will be back!

... so I could give Suite Jazz four thumbs up. Our stay in New Orleans was phenomenal due in great part to the friendly confines of our suite on Frenchmen. There is no better place for live music in the city. Sylvia was out-of-this-world -- best hostess ever! She was only a phone call away at all times. I highly recommend this place - I will never stay anywhere else again.

Used to Live Nola - Now I just visit

Left on 10/28/2010 for a stay in September 2010

I lived in Nola for 4 years... I love it here.

Since Katrina I now live in London and made a special trip down with my Uncle (55) and Brother (27) to celebrate his retirement and the Saints Home Opener.
Staying at Suite Jazz was one of the Highlights of our trip. The place is Great!

I only have a single complaint and that was the condition of the outside Balcony was kind of dirty and scuzzy. Nothing that could not be fixed with a good hosing and a little TLC.

Inside was Great, Clean, Funky and just right to relax in. It slept the 3 of us just fine.

Having lived in Nola for a while, I was keen to get down to Frenchman Street and spend my evenings there. It is not the glory that it once was (less people, looking kind of beat up) but the Spotted Cat and DBa were still kicking. Shame Cafe Brasil is closed :(

There are a few little places for breakfast that were much better than average and a Bodega down the street for Beer and Water.

Another point you should know is that right down stairs is a place you can rent bicycles. I suggest you do this as staying on Frenchman Street is quite removed from the rest of the city. Sure it is only 20 minute walk through the beautiful French Quarter to get to Canel Street (Street Car, Superdome, Magazine Street) but in the Heat of September or during the Saturday Night Madness this can take quite a while to move around. Again if you have been before, you should know what I am talking about. On the Bike you can see everything and get everywhere like a local. Totally do it!

So - Working with Sylvia who runs/ owns the place is a dream. She is totally cool and willing to help organize anything you want to do.

      This. Place. is. Amazing. Amazing!!!

If you love New Orleans or are looking for a great first experience there, then this place is for you! From the moment we arrived, I knew it was going to be a wonderful experience. The owners were so nice and helpful and were willing to answer any questions we had. Everything was so clean and organized and huge! The value was unbelievable considering what we got in return. The location absolutely can't be beat-- especially if you love good music and good food. The coffee shop next door is great and open early if you are an early riser! The area is extremely safe. I am a young female, and I went jogging every morning by myself... I never felt unsafe. It is just a hop skip and a jump from Bourbon Street-- but far enough away to get away if you need to! Oh yeah, how could I forget? There is an awesome balcony as well that is perfect for eating a meal, hanging out, or drinking a nice beverage :). Do yourself a huge favor, and stay here if you come to New Orleans. You will not regret it!!

      Great place to stay!

Left on 06/19/2010 for a stay in May 2010

This is a great place to stay in New Orleans. Frenchmen Street is ideal for soaking up the local New Orleans culture. Across the street, The Cat's Meow, has wonderful live music all day and no cover charge. On Frenchmen there are quite a few restaurants, little shops and a small market in case you forgot anything.
The apartment was clean and beautifully decorated. There is a wonderful balcony for having a coffee/tea in the morning. And all the amenities you need.
The owner Sylvia is more than willing to help if you are lacking in ideas of what to explore and obviously loves this city. She was a travel agent and really has honed in what a traveler needs.
I would and have recommended this place to my friends.

Staying is much better than any sterile hotel experience.

I stayed here with three teenage girls and we loved it! Sylvia has two blow up beds that fit easily in the living room so the four of us were quite comfortable. As I was the only adult, it was great having the live music right across the street to enjoy from the balcony without having to go out alone. We had several restaurants to choose from within minutes from our door and we enjoyed them all! Although it didn't bother us in the slightest, there is music until the wee hours and a few trash can dumps in the early morning. We fell asleep with the music and went right back to sleep after the trash noise. I can't wait to return!

I am a frequenter of Suite Jazz because it is the best place for me to be when I am in New Orleans. Not only is it the epicenter of hip Nola, but it still resonates with the sounds, smells and people I remember from the 60s and 70s when I visited my Grandmama on Decatur Street. I feel like it is my home away from home.

It has also served me well as a meeting place for friends and colleagues. I can cook my Texas and Mexican dishes and argue with people from Louisiana over who has the better food. Of course laws prevent me from having an open fire on the balcony so we really haven't put barbecue to the test yet.:)

Mostly is it the air of elegance, the ambiance of the city, the authenticity of this old neighborhood and the houses good Uptown fellas built for their Creole mistresses that really sells it for me.

I absolutely expect and receive a clean, comfortable apartment with everything that I need, including a lovely, modern bathroom. But I also get to hear the sound of Mr. Okra, selling his produce over a pa in his truck, the rumble of the bass as it pours front the front of the Spotted Cat across the street, and even the a.m. concert of trashman who picks up the sins from the night before and the business owners who hose the sidewalks down to a Nola shade of clean. I love it all.

I really shouldn't tell this story, because I want Suite Jazz all to myself. But Sylvia has been so good to me that I have to be honest. I'll probably also need to reserve my room a lot sooner!

If you are looking for a unique experience and a chance to meet some of the greatest people in NOLA, Suite Jazz is the place to do it. The caring owners go the extra mile to make your stay awesome and Frenchmen St is like no other. I have stayed here many times and love everything about this suite. If you come for the music of NOLA then you have arrived when you check in to this home away from home.
