Newcastle upon Tyne, UKHighly recommend!
Left on 10/15/2012 for a stay in October 2012
What can I say, the owner (Milton Wilson) what a lovely kind honest, helpful reliable man.. as written on the white board in the kitchen Milton Wilson is a legend.
The apartmnent - Very spacious, lovely wooden stairs, solid wood flooring, high ceilings. Large kitchen and dining room. Lovely decked back garden.
The area- 5 min walk to the subway, 10 mins once on subway to Times Square (recommend is going for 7 days that you get a 7 day pass, works out much cheaper under $30. The area is safe to walk at night, even walking to shop on a night I felt safe. The local people I found were very friendly. There is a local restaurant selling burgers, chicken etc who also do take outs (Ihop). There is a small supermarket 5 mins walk away called Fine Fare and there are loads of local stores for basic stuff and alcohol.
I wouldn't hesitate going back, the apartment felt like a home rather than a place to stay and Milton's manor and his helpful advise made out time in NY unforgottable.
Thank You Milton

After reading previous reviews about the apartment and about Mr Wilson the owner, i felt at ease booking it. Mr Wilson was very kind and helpful during the booking process and made it all pretty simple. On arrival to the apartment we were met by Mr Wilson who gave us a tour of the apartment and to say it was amazing, to say the pictures do it no justice is an understatement. It is nicely decorated and has plenty of room to sleep 3-4 people. Everything was provided to make us feel at home and any questions or queries were quickly handled by Mr Wilson who was just a phone call or a text away. Me and my friends had a great stay as we felt like it was a home away from home and therefore would not hesitate on returning back for our next trip.
The only things that could be have been provided is a full length mirror (which is a must for us women lol) and a microwave. Apart from that this place was great and so was its owner. -

What could be a more genuine New York experience than staying in a renovated Brownstone? We loved it. Milton is the perfect host, even cheerfully dropping back on a Sunday night with an extra blanket I suspect he knew we didn't need (we didn't,sorry Milton). There is no better way to experience a city than to stay in a real neighbourhood where its people live and Harlem is great as well as just a short subway ride from Times Square. When we come back to NYC (and we will be back) we'll be staying with Milton.

We stayed in this apartment for over a week and highly recommend it. It is spacious, the owner, Milton, is friendly and very helpful. The apartment is well maintained in a quiet neighborhood in a third-floor walk-up. One subway station is just around the corner, another is just two blocks away. Both provide easy access to the rest of the city and we used the subway at all hours of the day/night with no problems. There is a mini-mart on the corner and two larger groceries within a few blocks. No wifi yet, but the ethernet connection worked just fine for internet.

Upon arrival, Milton gave us good guidance for getting round the city, places to see and things to do, which was extremely helpful.
The apartment is a mere 3 minute walk from the subway, and a 20-30 minute subway ride to downtown Manhattan.
The apartment itself was everything we hoped for, although wi-fi and a potato peeler would have been a welcome addition!
We were hesitant at first to stay in the Harlem area, but felt safe at all times, even when returning late in the evenings.
Would definitely recommend to others. -

Left on 02/02/2011 for a stay in December 2010
We arrived pretty late on the 22nd December after a very long flight from australia. We were all exhausted, excited and stressed. Milton met us at the apartment and was more than helpful.
He ran our luggage up the very steep flights of steps while we huffed and puffed our way up. I guess being on a plane for so long really will give you jelly legs!!
Milton stuck around for a bit, telling us about the subway and some of the things we wanted to go and see while we were on NYC.
The next morning while we all slowly dragged ourselves out of bed, Milton knocked on the door with a bag of goodies - bacon, eggs, milk and bread. We were so thrilled to have these basic items. We weren't looking forward to the prospect of finding a supermarket on empty stomachs.
I was traveling with my 65 year old mother, my 10 year old niece and my boyfriend. My mother and niece slept in the ample sized bedroom and my boyfriend and I slept on the foldout couch. The couch was a little hard, but overall the apartment was really comfortable.
I had been in regular email contact with Milton since booking the apartment and he was always more than willing to help with any information I needed.
I cannot recommend this place enough. It was brilliant. The people we met on the streets were really nice and helpful with directions. There are lots of delis and convenience stores nearby and the subway couldn't have been easier. -

This is the best place we have stayed in - excellent facilities with big windows and great furniture and beds etc. Milton was a perfect gentleman in helping us during our stay - a trip to the supermarket, giving lots of information and even seeing us off! Harlem is a fantastic place to stay - a real feeling of community with everybody really friendly. Beautiful tree-lined streets and parks nearby. We also used the Public Library nearby for web information and ticket booking etc. Central Park 10 minutes, Times Square 20. We had the best time! Cheers, nathan

First off, I just want to say what a lovely lovely man Milton is (the owner of the apartment). He was so friendly and welcoming and made sure my friend and I had everything we needed. Even after we left the apartment and were staying in another part of NYC, we stayed in contact and I will definitely be contacting Milton when I go back to live in NY later this year. A genuinely lovely guy!
So the apartment... As the title of the review says, Amazing! :) Very spacious and bright, as is his other apartment (also in Harlem). The picture on here doesn't do it justice! Not much more to say, comfortable and homely. No problems at all. Great location, close to subway and the centre of Manhattan. Definitely definitely recommended!!! :) -

The apartment was huge and equipped with everything you might not miss on a stay in a foreign city.
I enjoyed the neighbourhood (especially because it not that "toruisty"), and although the location seemed a bit far out on the map, one can easily (and quick) reach Downtown Manhattan by metro.
I can only recommend the apartment to anyone who wants to enjoy NYC for a reasonable price. -

We had a very pleasant stay at the apartment! :) Everything was clean and the apartment is very spacious. The subway station is just 2 blocks away and you reach Times Square in 20 minutes with it. The area is very secure and calm, we (2 women) felt safe there the whole time.
There is a bigger grocery store just about 3 blocks south and some smaller vendors where you can buy water, snacks and vegetables/fruits are nearby. Don't let yourself get scared by the bad things you might have heard about Harlem - don't judge it negatively, it's really a nice area! :) And good jazz clubs are just right around the corner ;)
And the owner is such a kind and lovely person - don't hesitate to ask him for any directions or recommendations...he is so helpful!! :) Great talks!! :) -

I was so glad when my daughter and I chose to stay at one of Milton's apartments. The apartment was clean and well maintained, loved the decoration. Milton was a great host, very friendly person, he answered all of our questions, he made sure that there was the basic food for the start of our stay at the apartment which we thought was very thoughtful of him. Staying at Milton's apartment made it so easy to get around the city, with the subway just around the corner. After a long day of sight seeing you can come back to the apartment and just relax in a beautiful garden, which would end your day perfectly! We will definitely recommend Milton's apartments to our family and friends, it's a home away from home. We can't wait for our next stay!
