Sankofa Guest Apartment is a an ideal location whether visiting NY for business or pleasure. This beautiful self contained apartment with a private entrance, is on the top floor of our 2 family brownstone located in Central Harlem. There is no elevator.

After a day of fun in Harlem, lower Manhattan or the other boroughs, unwind in an oasis of tranquility at Sankofa Guest Apartment. The accommodations are immaculate, and quiet, with plenty of light and sunshine.

The bedroom, which overlooks the garden, has three windows, a comfortable queen size bed with a pillow top mattress, 600 count sheets, ample closet space,... a comfortable lounge chair, Bose CD Player, bombay chest and ample closet space.

The bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom. Caswell-Massey toiletries, plush towels and bathrobes and "complimentary slippers" are provided during your stay.

The all stainless steel kitchenette is complete with stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator,dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, pots/pans, utensils,and dishes.

The living room has a small library, 27 inch flat screen cable HDTV with premium channels, two sofas--a twin sleep sofa with air dream mattress, and regular sofa plus other seating. There is a dining area with seating for three adjacent to the kitchen pass through.

Free WiFi, DVD, flat-screen-tv, and Stereo with input for your portable music device.

The Neighborhood:

The neighborhood is quiet, safe, residential, historic, eclectic and right in the heart of Harlem. Take advantage of all that this neighborhood in Harlem has to offer -- great restaurants, day spas, grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, sports clubs, movie theater, parks, shopping, neighborhood tours, gospel brunches, jazz clubs, museums and friendly folk. There is something for everyone.

The apartment is close to Harlem's main drag where you can see the Apollo Theater (or perhaps even attend the famous Wednesday night amateur night, book tickets online). Lenox Longue, Sylvia's Restaurant, the Red Rooster Restaurant, the Studio Museum in Harlem, Schombeurg Center for Research in Black Culture and Central Park are all within walking distance.

There is also East Harlem, predominantly Latino culture and food.

Transportation:

The subway station at 125th Street and Lenox Avenue is four short blocks from the apartment,and #2 or #3 express trains take you to 42nd Street/Times Square in approximately 15 minutes. Duke Ellington's famous 'A train' is a quick 10 minute walk from the apartment at 125th Street and St. Nicolas Avenue and is only two stops to 42nd Street/Times Square.. If you're not in a hurry and want a scenic ride through upper Manhattan, you can take the bus that is less than 1/2 block away on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. It will take you down 5th Avenue along Central Park to great mid-town department stores and 42nd Street in about 35 minutes. The Metro North Railroad Station, also on 125th Street, has trains to Grand Central Station, Bronx Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo. CANCELLATION POLICY-You will forfeit 50% if your invoice total when you cancel your reservation 15 DAYS before your scheduled arrival. NO SHOWS will be charged 100% of the total invoice. No refunds on early departures.

  Excellent accommodation close to subway connections (1 and 2 subway) and local bus. A 10 mins walk to central park and 5 mins to subway and local Harlem shops.
  
  The host sent all the information including maps and directions to the apartment (which you will need as the airport taxis don't know their way around NY). On arrival we were greeted by a friendly host and shown the apartment which was lovely and clean. The decor is of afro american pieces which are from all over the world.
  
  The Kitchen was equip with breakfast, drink and tea/coffee. There was an oven, microwave and coffee if you need. There is also a laundry area to wash clothes. Now when place say they have extras like bathroom stuff, slippers etc you don't alway get them but here you do. They supplied of shower gel, body lotion and pair of slippers.. it was great!!
  
  The apartment was full of magazines and booklets on thing to do in NY.
  
  This apartment is great for families and friend, weekend and longer holidays. I would highly recommended it to everyone! :)

  Just the best

  Having been to NYC many times decided to venture away from central Manhattan. Scoured the web and found the listing on Vrbo for Sankofa. Booked for 6 nights and the only regret was would have liked more time. The apartment location is easy to reach - between two subway stops (116 and 125th) and buses at each end of the street. On arrival Edith had a bottle of wine, olives, nuts, cheese, bagels, jam, crackers etc. waiting for us. This was an added bonus, plus a coffee machine. There was everything you could possibly want down to umbrellas, shopping trolley, guide books to NYC and Harlem, wifi, bathrobes, slippers and spotless accommodation. Also a voucher to Edith's friends cafe - Cafe Latte - which we ended up frequenting more than once. It is so easy to get to the noise of Time Square but a lovely escape away from all the crowds at the end of the day. One week subway/bus ticket $29. Takes you everywhere. The owners could not do enough to make our stay delightful.

  Edith and Norma have put together a place to stay that sets the benchmark. There was nothing to fault here. Their hospitality, the quality of the apartment--actually, the beauty of the apartment is a better description, the ease of access to public transport, excellent local cafes and restaurants and culture all made this a lovely stay. I have always loved being in New York for all of the things it has to offer, and now there is one more reason for me to go back.
