Our taxi driver was a bit dismissive about the area and we did pass through a fairly depressed looking part of town to get to the property. Don't be put off; we always felt safe, even walking around late at night. Don't bother with the local corner shops; they don't have much to offer. Instead, walk about ten minutes to the supermarket on the corner of 119th & Malcolm X Boulevard or the Best Yet Deli on Frederick Douglass Blvd.
