The bedroom is in the "extension" of the building. It has a queen-sized bed, substantial hanging closet room and shelves. An armoire hides an HD TV receiving DirecTV satellite signal. Another phone with free national service is on the same line as the one in the living room. It has a inexplicably low original window overlooking the trees in the neighborhood's backyards, as well as a more conventional window in which the air conditioner is placed in the summer time.

There is a (private) bathroom with a shower over the full tub, a toilet and a sink. It has a small window looking west and more than adequate storage facilities in a cabine...t for the sheets, towels, blankets, paper products, and linen provided. A hair dryer is also provided.

The alley way from the bathroom past the living room towards the unused second entrance door has the Murphy (vertical) bed situated in it, ready to drop down to provide another queen size bed.

The living room, with two windows overlooking the leafy backyard, has a love seat, armchair, armoire with another larger TV with satellite DirecTV signal, and a desk with fold-down writing surface. A cocktail table has four ottoman seats stored in it. Wi-fi and wired internet service are provided. A wood fireplace can be made to work. Another generous coat closet houses a folding single bed with a foam mattress, collapsible crib, and ironing board (and iron).

Near the kitchen is a dining table that can be expanded with a leaf to seat six, with the appropriate chairs.

The kitchen is well equipped for gourmet dining: a convection oven underneath a four-burner gas stove, large marble counter for pastry making, a Cuisinart set of stainless steel cooking utensils, KitchenAide freezer/fridge, butcher block counter, stoneware and cutlery for 8, wine and juice glasses, microwave, the usual kitchen appliances and tools, and a dishwasher to clean it all up. The kitchen can be "disappeared" by closing the folding doors.

There is an intercom to the front door, but for security reasons, the electric door opener buzzer has been disabled, requiring you to go down to let people in or accept deliveries.Read more

One block from Central Park and across Columbus Avenue from the Museum of Natural History, my house is a five-story 1895 townhouse on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I had the ornate brownstone facade restored recently. It has eight apartments (I occupy the garden apartment). The house is part of a neighborhood of townhouses on the side streets, large multiple dwellings on the avenues, occasional grand apartment buildings on Central Park West, and some notable institutions such as the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, the New York Historical Society and Lincoln Center dotted around the neighborhood. The area is well served by buses and subways, with a large population of restaurants of many different ethnicities and varying levels of sophistication. No area of Manhattan is difficult or takes long to reach.
