    Apartment surroundings
The Metropolitan Museum Suite apartment is located on 3rd Avenue in the middle of Upper East Side New York City, just couple blocks from Central Park, Guggenheim Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art – some of New York’s most famous landmarks.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (also known as “The Met”) is an art museum on the eastern edge of Central Park which has always been a must-see attraction for those who visit New York. It is located on 5th Avenue and 82nd Street. Its permanent collection contains more than two million works of art and the exhibits include works of art from classical antiquity and Ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures from nearly all the European masters, and an extensive collection of American and modern art. The Met also maintains extensive holdings of African, Asian, Oceanic, Byzantine, and Islamic art.[8] The museum is also home to encyclopedic collections of musical instruments, costumes and accessories, and antique weapons and armor from around the world. Several notable interiors, ranging from 1st-century Rome through modern American design, are permanently installed in the Met's galleries. There is also Iris and Gerald Cantor Roof Garden which offers views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, and features an annual summertime single artist sculpture exhibition. The Garden's cafe and bar is a popular museum spot during the mild-weathered months, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings when large crowds can lead to long lines at the elevators.

The Solomon Guggenheim Museum (often referred to as "The Guggenheim") is a well-known museum located on the 5th Avenue and 88th Street. It is the permanent home to a renowned collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early Modern, and contemporary art and also features special exhibitions throughout the year. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, it is one of the 20th century's most important architectural landmarks. You might have seen this museum in movies. For example it is featured in Men in Black, When in Rome, Ugly Betty and prominently in The International, where a major shootout occurs in the museum (in fact, a life-size replica of the museum was built for this scene).

Central Park is a large park in the middle of New York – absolutely amazing! There are so many things to do there, you might as well not leave the area at all. Especially if you have kids – this area is definitely best for you! Couple things that everyone loves to do in Central Park – picnicking, ice skating (in winter), visiting the Zoo (the entrance is on 64th Street on the East Side), jogging and just enjoying the nature. There are also tons of excursions in Central Park, some featuring those landmarks in the park where famous movies were filmed. The movies include “Serendipity”, “Ghostbusters”, “Enchanted”, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Home Alone 2”. You can also rent bicycles at Columbus Circle and just ride around the park on your own and enjoy the nature!

You have practically everything you need for your stay in New York on 3rd Avenue – you do not need to go more than a few minutes on foot to eat any cuisine, withdraw money, buy electronics, get cell phone pay-as-you-go SIM-cards, or even watch a show or a movie.

This is definitely the best apartment for those who want to cook and have dinners in the apartment – not only it has an amazing big stove and oven, but also you will have several grocery stores around which is very rare in New York: you can get everything in the Food Emporium supermarket on 86th Street and 2nd Avenue or in Cristedes on 1st Avenues and 86th Street or on Lexington Avenue between 89th and 90th Streets. If you just want to pick up some quick basic items as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, you might want to visit B&B; Street Market right across the street from the apartment or if you want to eat healthy organic cuisine make sure to visit grocery store across the street – Lotus Health Foods.

If you are trying to decide where to eat nearby you can choose between numerous options – 3rd and Lexington Avenues have a huge number of restaurants. For a quick snack, you can go to Starbucks for great coffee and sandwiches (at 84th Street and 3rd Avenue), Tasti-D-Lite for sweets and coffee (on 86th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues); Papaya King hot dog place (corner of 86th and 3rd) or to Burger Haven. If you are in the mood for something more substantial choose from many fine dining restaurants and bars around the block with all the possible cuisines –Vietnamese cuisine restaurant called Pan Asian on 86th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues; Japanese cuisine and sushi place Oki Sushi on 88th Street and 3rd Avenue as well numerous Italian restaurants. And if you prefer eat outside, you have one more option – you can just make yourself a lunch or grab a sandwich nearby and come and sit in a green garden with tables and chairs located right on 86th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.

There is plenty of shopping right around the corner from the apartment, so you won’t miss those sales! On 3rd Avenue you have Gap, H&M;, Nine West, Steve Madden and many more. For all your sports shopping needs there is Modell’s at 87th and 3rd Avenue and for all the electronics make sure to drop by Best Buy on the corner of 86th Street and Lexington Avenue.

Duane Reade pharmacy nearby is located on the corner of 86th Street and Lexington Avenue – it’s the largest New York pharmacy chain and is open 24 hours. Pharmacies in the US sell everything from food to umbrellas, so if you’re not sure where to find what you need – go to the pharmacy, and you’ll find it!

If you like to exercise during your stay, there are two gyms available – Equinox on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 85th Street and NY Sports Club on 86th Street between 3rd and Lexington Avenues. Great location, small living area however the bedrooms were a go

Left on 10/25/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Living area & kitchen tiny but sufficient & the bedrooms & bathroom were a good size. We loved the location we needed things like grocery stores & laundromats all in a short walking distance. Also close by was The Guggenheim, Central Park, The Metropolitan Museum & the bus stops for the Hop-on-Hop-off tours. Walk to Times Square not necessarily close but we did it with three kids & luggage on our last day. We arrived in New York around 8.00 in the morning & even though we couldn't check in & get the key until 3.00 we could leave our luggage at the offices which was perfect. The group running the apartment were very helpful & we enjoyed our stay.
