Having just spent a long weekend at Dalkeith House with the family I would highly recommend it!
The accommodation is definitely 5 star luxury...large comfortable lounge with wood burning fire, TV room to chill out in, opulent dinning room where there is plenty of dinner service for you to enjoy a meal at the huge table and also a full china set that we enjoyed serving afternoon tea in! The kitchen has everything you will ever need and the breakfast room that looks out into the garden. The bedrooms are all spacious and the beds are very comfortable. Bathrooms are well decorated and everyone commented on how good the showers were! The house has a sound system that you can connect your i-pod to listen to your music in the lounge, dining room and breakfast room.
The house is located in the main square in a quiet village so is perfect for getting away from it all.
Thank you Barbara for a lovely stay at Dalkeith House. Read more

We booked Dalkeith house for my mums 70th birthday. The owner was there to meet us upon our arrival and showed us around the house which was good. The house itself was very impressive, from relaxed breakfasts in the breakfast room to dinner in the dining room eating together was great fun. The kitchen had absolutely everything you could need. We loved the tv room and the lounge was a great place to relax. The bedrooms were immaculately presented and the 3 en-suites and family bathroom meant that there were never any queues for showers or baths, and the luxurious towels bath products added that extra touch. We never got the chance to use the local adventure centre in Newcastleton but it looked really good value. We did take a few walks around the village and there were plenty to choose from. We also had a game of golf on the local 9 hole course, which was excellent. The sound system throughout the house was fantastic and the selection of songs was more than enough for everyone in our party. Too many highlights of the weekend to mention, but the house made my mothers birthday celebration very special. We would not hesitate to go back or recommend the house to anyone else. Read more

We recently booked Dalkeith House as a surprise for my parent's 30th wedding anniversary and it was more than we could have hoped for. The house and its furnishings are truly beutiful and had fantastic facilities, including full dinner service and well equipped kitchen to prepare and serve our seven course gourmet dinner! Would definitely reccommend to anyone who wants somewhere with style and granduer, but also lots of relaxation and modern facilities. Read more

Luxurious accommodation in the heart of a small friendly community with local shops and restaurants close by. I cannot praise the quality of this property too highly. We had a fabulous Christmas break which was over all too soon. The house was beautifully warm and comfortable in all respects. No arguments about who was having which bedroom as they were all so comfortable. The kitchen was a joy to cook in with every utensil and piece of equipment you could need - and such a bonus to have a breakfast room and a dining room at Christmas time. The youngsters tended to monopolise the 'entertainment' room while the older members enjoyed the more quiet lounge. The attention to detail in every aspect of this property is stunning. The icing on the cake was the festive decorations with a massive Xmas tree in the hall. Thanks to Barbara for making us so welcome and for showing us the ropes. The only disappointment was the weather which was wet and dreich for most of our week here. However we did manage some short local walks from the door and a visit to Keilder forest and to Hawick. However it wasn't really necessary to leave the luxury of the indoors to explore the outdoors. We have promised ourselves a future visit to explore the local area at a time of year when the weather is kinder. Read more
Thank you for taking the time to post a review, we very much appreciate your effort.
We are delighted that the house met your expectations and that your Christmas break was, well just that, a break! When everything is as it should be cooking and entertaining can be great fun and it sounds like you all had a ball! The tree and all the decorations took time to put up but it was well worth it when we know it has been valued by those who stayed with us,
You will have to all return when the sun is out ot enjoy our beautiful surroundings! Best wishes to all, B

We stayed for 5 nights over the new year and had the most wonderful time. The house is extremely well-appointed, and very comfortable. Barbara was there to meet us and show us the ropes.
Bedrooms - favourite bits were the powerful hot showers and the massive comfy beds.
Kitchen - favourite bits were the appliances including wine fridge and dishwasher (washing machine and tumbler also for use)
Breakfast room - favourite bits were view onto the garden and sonos link, heated skirting boards!
Dining room - favourite bits - using the crockery (!), fabulous decoration and massive table for 10
Drawing room - favourite bits were the log burning stove and the lovely distinctive smell it creates. WiFi was also extremely useful for keeping in touch with people - not much phone signal
Games room - favourite bits were the full sky hd package, blu ray player and big tv
Hallway - loved the massive staircase (think home alone!) and the decorations - in fact for christmas the whole house was decorated fabulously - a massive floor to ceiling tree in the hallway was the icing on the cake.
Garden - favourite bit was the woodstore (that's where we kept our beer!)
We didn't need to bring half as much with us, as the house already has so much (in terms of entertainment, and a spotify subscription for the sonos) and the local shop(s) were open quite a lot even on new year's day and stocked a reasonable amount of stuff - even when I needed to nip out for some lard and redcurrant jelly to make a pie.
Some lovely walks nearby dependant on the weather.
All in all, a great place to stay and just relax. Read more

Wow! - That's the only way to describe Dalkeith House. The house is stunning, coupled with a very warm welcome and incredible attention to detail I can honestly say its the best place we've stayed. We were a group of ten aged from 15 to 60+ and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The village has a real community feel and is very friendly and the surrounding countryside is stunning. The only downside was going home! Read more
Thank you very much - sorry you had to leave, we look forward to having you back - come for longer next time! B

I would highly recommend Dalkeith house. We hired it for a long weekend and we couldn't ask for anything better. Not only was the house spotless, well catered for and warm, the beds were like cuddling up in a cloud and the facilities were amazing. Every single bedroom was beautiful and so were the bathrooms/ en-suites, in fact the whole house was beautiful. If your looking for a 5 star holiday home Dalkeith house is it! The village is nice to walk
around and the activity centre down the road was good fun. Read more
Thank you for taking time to post this for us. We are delighted that you enjoyed the house and had a great weekend. We might borrow your description of the beds when we update the web site! Best wishes to all B

The time spent at Dalkeith House was, in one word - perfect. Before we even stepped out of the car on arrival we were warmly greeted by Barbara and given a tour of the house & garden. Every room in the house is designed to be comfortable and beautiful, with every generation catered for. We had 3 grandparents, 2 parents and one teenager. The teen of the family enjoyed the TV, music and technology; the parents enjoyed the selection of books, the modern kitchen and the breakfast room, whilst the older generation preferred the quiet lounge and peaceful gardens. The time and effort put into this house has been remarkable, and has certainly paid off! An extra special surprise for us on arrival was the bottle of bubbly in the fridge and wonderful home-baking (lemon drizzle cake to die for!!). Newcastleton is also a very friendly town and an ideal base to visit the surrounding area. We enjoyed local hospitality at the village Craft Fair and ate out at the two hotel restaurants 50-100 yards from the house ! We visited Kielder, Hawick, Jedburgh and my daughter enjoyed a lovely pony trek at Bayley Mills. It was a wonderful few days and we hope to return again! The only negative point we would make is that our stay wasn't long enough! Highly recommended. Read more
We loved having you all and I am delighted that you enjoyed the house and our beautiful surroundings. You managed to pack so much in while you were here! We hope to welcome you all back again. Thank you for coming B
