Description from the owner
Come to The Sugar House for the true Vermont experience. This 1796 post and beam cottage was originally built for maple sugaring. It was converted to a charming guest house in the 1970's. Built without any nails, the hand hewn beams and soaring cathedral ceiling give a warm cozy feeling. Escape here to our luxury featherbed with fine linens. Enjoy feeding the fish in the pond or sitting on your own private patio. This cottage has a full kitchen, sitting area, fireplace, loft that sleeps two additional people. The kitchen is stocked with coffee, tea, water, and milk. A welcome basket greets you upon arrival. The charming brick fireplace warms...Read more

New Haven, CTreally wonderful
Left on 11/26/2012 for a stay in December 2011
The house is beautiful and warm and cosy. The kitchen is small but perfect for the house, and the fireplace is ideal. The Sugar House's location is also ideal, just minutes into Newfane and Grafton. We couldn't have been happier! The real gem is Dennis & Lenore themselves, who are incredibly gracious hosts. Very highly recommended.

Fairfield County, CTPerfect alternative to expensive Inns!
Left on 03/27/2012 for a stay in March 2012
This was the perfect rental to accommodate us on a recent VT weekend. My husband and I slept very well in the Queen bed (even though we have a king at home). My daughter (age 9) really enjoyed the sleeping loft. The ladder is a bit steep, so I wouldn't recommend it for kids under 4/5 ( although, it depends on your kids). We were also allowed to bring our dog which was great. The owners are very friendly and provided a welcome basket with blueberry muffins, milk for coffee in the fridge and k- cup coffee maker. Lots of hot water in the shower! Everything you need (including robes, slippers and hairdryer). The Newfane cafe and creamery in town was great for informal dinners in or take - out. We enjoyed the privacy and that we could make our own meals as needed. Much less expensive than staying at a pricey inn. If your enjoy self-catering it's wonderful.

I loved this place. The owners have retained the original beams on the interior; it looks like Vermont personified. So charming you could eat it with a spoon. Attentive hosts and a lovely outside garden with a view provided dusk sightings of a fox!

I wish I lived in the Sugar House - it worked so beautifully for our needs (fireplace, nice TV, kitchen ) but also was special enough to feel like a retreat. The upper sleeping loft gave the teens their own space. Gorgeous views and a great spot from which to plan day trips into town or farther flung adventures. Dennis and Lenore could not have been lovelier or more helpful.

Left on 03/06/2011 for a stay in February 2011
The cottage is absolutely adorable and we couldn't have felt more welcome. When we walked in at 7 pm after a long drive the fire was burning and the there was cheese and crackers to hold us over till dinner. The owners are so delightful we could have chatted with them all night. The cottage is incredibly flexible. Our two teenagers had the upper loft with two twin beds, while my husband and I got the queen bed in front of the fire. I can can hardly wait until we can go there without the kids.

I have stayed at the sugarhouse perhaps 6 or 7 times now and everytime i go my experience gets better and better.
Lenore and Dennis Salzbrunn are so welcoming and friendly that i almost feel like family!
They have been so accomodating, giving me tips on restaurants and shopping and acting as virtual tour guides for the surrounding areas.
The sugar house itself is cozy, spacious, and always immaculate.
All in all an experience not to be missed.
