Description from the owner

Newport Onshore is the perfect home base for your Newport vacation. The harbor and marina are right in your front yard. When you want to join the seafaring fun, you can rent equipment or charter boats close by. For swimmers, public beaches are about two miles away, or you can use the resort's indoor/outdoor pool. Newport is filled with 19th-century mansions open for public tours. Newport's history dates back to the 1700s, and more than 400 pre- Revolutionary War homes are in the area. After you've seen Newport's past, visit the crafts shops along the waterfront that are within easy walking distance.

Beautiful super spacious and great location

Left on 02/25/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We stayed at the Wyndam for one week in February 2013. Outside was freezing, but inside was warm and cozy. We burned fire logs and had the most gorgeous view of the harbor and Jamestown Bridge. Our two bedroom unit was huge!!! It is a little outdated, but well maintained. We had a great time!!!

      Suberb location and attentive staff

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Great spot on lower Thames, Resort has very attentive and informative staff.
Views were excellent, amenities were all well kept, big plus was gas grilles on property were cleaned daily and utensils put out for use. Common areas constantly being maintained during our stay.
One question, why couldn't they get the irrigation system fixed? In the kids play area a huge puddle and other spots dry as a bone.
Would definitely be back, hopefully next year.

      Superior Location

Left on 06/08/2012 for a stay in May 2012

There isn't much to say about the resort condo itself except that it was in desperate need of updating. There were several deficiencies noted upon check-in and, where possible, these were taken care of immediately by the friendly, responsive, staff. It was, however, the only timeshire resort where we did not take indoor photos. When we first arrived, it seemed dark and depressing. Knowing that other family members were arriving in a few days, we decided that the furniture especially needed to be moved around to improve its appearance. Once we moved the two twin beds in the 2nd bedroom that had been haphazardly placed in the room and relocated the bureau from one wall to the other, as well as opening the drapes, the appearance improved 100%. We also thought that once the console table that was placed against the wall in the "travel lane" was moved to behind the sofa, it also vastly improved the looks of the living area. The TV in the living room was only viewable by sitting on the sofa or in one of the two chairs -- it was not located in a good spot. I would have moved the heavy armoire to a different location to afford viewing from the dining room too. The kitchen, although quite open to the general living area, contained a full-size stove, refrigerator and dishwasher except the sink was only bar-size. Once we got accustomed to the unit though, it really had everything we needed to live comfortably the remainder of the week. There were two large covered balconies (actually three -- one really didn't count due to its tiny size overlooking the parking lot) on opposite ends of the unit so we had our choice of views.

The resort is located centrally on Thames street where it seemed the crowds gathered in droves from Friday afternoon through Sunday. The units are set far back from the street directly on Newport Harbor where it was quiet and the views of the boats (yachts?) in the marina and Narragansett Bay were unbelievable.

Don't miss Ocean Drive, the Mansion Tours, Cliff Walk and the "authentic" antique shop (Aadrvark antiques) located at the foot of the Pell Bridge coming into Newport.

Relaxing during Resturant Week in Newport

Left on 04/08/2012 for a stay in March 2012

We had a wonderful relaxing time during our week stay in Newport, RI. This resort is as centrally located as possible in dynamic Newport, RI and within reasonable walking distance to many attractions and resturants. From the first moment we arrived we were treated like honored guests by the staff of the resort. The staff accomodated our every wish in a timely manner and they were very friendly and professional. We stayed here just before the tourist season rush and things were very relaxing for us. The elevators in the buildings service 5 units and there is little or no wait even during check in and out times. These units have full kitchens which is not the norm in many of the accomodations in Newport. The location of the units is unsurpassed, perhaps the best in Newport in this respect. There is little or no free parking in Newport so it may be quite an ordeal when the tourist season is on but you can park at the resort and walk to many of the best attractions and resturants in Newport. We throughly enjoyed our stay here and would come again. The resort is clean, large, and has most anything a person would want in a tourist location. It is right on the water too but not for swimming or beach going. For that you have to travel a couple of miles.

      great location to downtown Newport

Left on 04/05/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We stayed during February school vacation. We purposely chose Onshore due to the location to downtown area and the outdoor skating rink. We walked all week, as you know parking is difficult. Many dining options, the library, shopping very easy to walk to. The resort room itself was clean, however I feel not up to Wyndham standards. Surface clean, but the tiles in the bathroom and the baseboards needed a good scrubbing. Parking is a little tight by the units. The resort offered one or two activities a day, such as a scavenger hunt, wine and cheese tasting for free, donuts and coffee etc. which was nice. Every room does have a view of the water, but you may need to go out to your deck to see it. Newport is a great spot for famillies with children( under age 10 I would say) during Feb vacation because they have a winter festival, which you can buy discount buttons for discounts on dining & attractions. Our children were 11 & 13, but many activities were geared toward the younger age group. We still attended many things, scavenger hunt down at chamber (family), chili cook off, bubblemania (<10), walk along sachuest wildlife refuge (family),kids karaoke at Rhino Bar (family) and of course outdoor skating all week and had fun. There was still plenty to keep us occupied, as we have been to mansions before. The weather was great while we were here, and I would not hesitate to stay at the Onshore again.

      Winter in New England

Left on 02/28/2012 for a stay in December 2011

The resort was quiet in the winter. The location was great and we could enjoy the close proximity of all the nearby restaurants and shops. I especially loved the fresh lobster and crab you could buy just a couple of piers away. The rooms were clean and we were well provisioned with soap, etc. We had a 2 bedroom which had two decks with nice views. The staff was friendly and helpful with locating events over the holidays.

Fabulous Location, Excellent Resort in Newport

Left on 06/19/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We have stayed at Wyndham Newport Onshore many times over the past fifteen years and the overall experience has remained most positive for us. The staff is most helpful and accomodating, the unit itself was very clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with all the kitchen utensils, pots and pans, cutlery and dinnerware that one could want for service for eight people. The location is in the center of Newport, with easy access to all shopping, restaurants, and sightseeing. And the views of Newport Harbor, and the beautiful Pell-Newport Bridge: awesome! The outdoor and indoor pools are perfect for relaxing and entertaining young children. Our two grandchildren absolutely love our yearly visits to Onshore. We look forward to returning there next year.
