We really enjoyed our stay at avana Hideaway. It is close to Muri Beach, and also not far from the start of two inland trails: the avana Walk and the Turani Walk. Also it's very close, just two minutes' walk, to the Ccic Church with the beautiful singing during the Sunday services. Although it was a bit of a walk to the nearest snorkelling beach, that was fine with us because walking and exploring the area is part of our holiday fun. Also, don't forget to explore the rocky, volcanic point on the water's edge just to the north of avana Hideaway.

RigaGreat place to explore Rarotonga
Left on 11/24/2012 for a stay in October 2012
The accommodation has everything one needs for a self-catered vacation and an introduction to the island. Back yard is home to beautiful Cook island vegetation, including couple of coconut palms, so sharpen your skills at opening the coconuts! Garden door at the back will lead you to the avana Fishing Club , which is famous for its sandwiches (mix the fish ndwich with their famous sauce and get a fruit smoothie). Walk 2 mins to the South along the road and turn left for a beautiful lagoon view. Not much of a swim there, but walk for 10 more minutes in your reef shoes to reach Muri beach. While you are walking you'll get an introduction to the beautiful local marine life: small fish, blue-colored star-fish etc. You can catch an hourly bus clockwise or anti-clockwise, but they are not super-reliable, so get a motorbike, like everyone else does. Avana Hideaway has a superb purple book with island info and tips: don't try to invent a bicycle, do yourself a favour, study it carefully and use the info. Tony is a great host: he will come to greet you, and to wish you a great holiday once you arrive to the accommodation in the beginning, but if you need him he will always answer your call and will help you when you need it. Tip: open the door into the garden while using a bathroom. :-)

Loved it here!
Very romantic and comfy with all the mod cons we needed.
The nearby cafe offers the best lunches on Rarotonga and the snorkeling in the lagoon here is better than most.
We went fishing almost every day with Captain Moko and caught some very big Tuna!
This is perfect for couples with lots of space but also great for three or four sharing.
Highly reccommended .We will be back, that's 100%Response from Tony Heays - 08/29/2012

Brighton, EnglandBohemian villa with beautiful tropical garden - loved it!

I stayed here with a friend for a week and we loved it! The property looks a bit utilitarian from the side when you turn off the road, but you walk around and in to reveal a wonderful tropical garden, a great deck and a beautifully decorated and well cared for house with lots of the owners artwork and island carvings. We loved having a relaxing drink on the shady deck, taking in the lovely garden before going out in the evening and on one occasion nearly missed our table booking as we whiled away the time! The house had great facilities and we felt very comfortable and at home. If I had the money I'd love to have a house like this!
Tony was very helpful in getting us settled in and letting us know about things to do in the area. Being keen sailors back in the UK we got involved with the local sailing club which was close by in Muri and we also went to Highland Paradise which he booked for us to get a discount. That was an evening to remember - we were blown away by the drumming and island dancing. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and loads to do nearby. Good for souvenir hunting as well. Jills little cafe out of the gate was a great spot for a lazy lunch overlooking the cerulean harbour.
In fact we could have stayed put for a whole week in this area as there was so much to see and do - but we did take the bus into town to see the rest of the island as well.
A great place to stay and very good value - we would highly recommend.
