Very private and comfortable historic cottage

Left on 02/08/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We have been going to the Wishing Well Cottage in Niagara on the Lake for nearly 10 years now. We love it! it is like having a little house all to yourself close to the main street. We love the privacy and being able to come and go as you please without worrying about what time breakfast is. Over the years, we have taken another couple with us and have enjoyed many evenings sitting in our own living room playing board games until the wee hours. It is just like having your own home.
The bedrooms are lovely and the beds are extremely comfortable. The full kitchen is great to cook a breakfast or any meal although we prefer to go out for dinner to the many wonderful restaurants in the area.
Wishing Well Cottage is surrounded by wineries. Heaven! There is even a brewery now in Niagara on the Lake. I can't think of a better weekend getaway. Hence we go every year! We love to go in the winter when it is quite and the main street isn't quite so busy.
Maria, the owner, always leaves us a bottle of wine, chocolates and some coupons for wine tasting on the table. We love going there!

Quaint cottage, comfortable beds and we enjoyed the treats you left. The cottage had everything we needed and then some. Central to all area attractions, food, wine and great biking trails. This cottage had it all. Can't wait to return next year and stay with you again!

Great stay at your historical cottage rental

Left on 03/03/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Enjoyed our stay at your unique and homey cottage. Beds are super comfortable, and bathrooms had all the luxury lavender bath amenities that we needed.

I loved the lavender bath products, what a treat, I took a long and relaxing bath in your over sized bathtub. We all had a great rest at your cottage and we all chose a favourite antique from you lovely collection.

We will have to come back when the weather is better to enjoy your lovely large garden.

      Nancy

      False advertising at its best!

Left on 10/13/2011 for a stay in October 2011

Imagine our suprise when we arrived at the Wishing Well Cottage for our weekend stay; this could not be the same cottage as presented in the photos; an overgrown "garden" with broken chairs on the deck, a disregarded bathtub and pool liner in the back yard, stagnant water in containers, shredded mats under a patio set; "the unique organic Victorian garden." This was only the beginning! Stucco peeling off the chimmney, an overgrown front garden; where are the steps to get in?! Dirty "white" siding and a roof in need of repairs.
We actually ventured inside. Our 5pm check in, as specified, was to be accompanied by a visit from the owner, for property orientation. Maria "couldn't make it." Done by phone. This is not a large home and basically easy to figure out..stay somewhere else!
Our "Welcome" gift was a bottle of red wine, with the original label soaked off and replaced with a hand written label. Eight stale chocolates placed in a bowl. Provided slippers to "protect the floors" have been worn, dirty and worn out! The hall bath has not been dusted in years; there was a layer of thick dust on the cabinet, mirror and light fixture. In both baths were "spa products"; numerous bottles of opened, outdated soaps and lotions; less than half full. The queen bedroom has a matress so worn, the sides have collapsed. "Home comforts in a historical cottage"!
The best was the kitchen where you have a "breakfast bar". "Help yourself"...(breakfast included with the stay). There were 3 opened bottles of juice in the fridge, an open jar of peanut butter that someone had tasted, an open box of granola on the shelf...appetite left?
This is false advertising, with outdated photos, in many publications and online and needs to be corrected.
An anticipated weekend for a 30th anniversary was nearly ruined by the claims the owner makes and the monies spent to rent this "historical cottage". Shame on the owner..I have proof in the pictures.

Response from Maria Rekrut - 01/20/2012

      Maria Rekrut

      Owner

Nothing about our advertising is false. We have a very good reputation for cleanliness. We have been in business for 12 years, we have never had a bad review like this before. This is an unfortunate review. We are correcting anything that guests may not like as they come and go. We get lots of good reviews by our visitors. Most cottages offer nothing to customers for a GIFT! We offer something above most cottages.

We are more than happy to discuss this review further with you. You never brought anything to our attention that you were not happy with while you were here. Further to this review we strive to make every stay the best we can for everyone.

      Wonderful!!

Left on 01/19/2011 for a stay in January 2011

We had friends visiting from New York State, they came and visited with us in Niagara -on the Lake. We stayed over night at Wishing Well Cottage, where we had a lazy and relaxed visit. The Bedrooms were comfortable and nicely decorated.

We wandered around the town in the evening and the next day. We used the complimentary wine tasting/touring vouchers that were provided as part of our Welcome Gift Basket!! We had free tasting and tours of at least 10 wineries in the area.

What a great place to spend our retreat getaway with our friends. We like to visit often and will be back. Thank you Maria
