What Past Guests Are Saying
Great location to visit both niagara-on-the-lake and niagara falls. House is very spacious, clean and works well for family that wants to spread out.
Response from Scott Webster - 06/06/2013
I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and i hope you will stay with us again in the future!
New years Eve in Niagra Falls
The Vines was one of the cleanest rentals we have ever stayed in.Great location to local wineries+downtown Niagra on the Lake.Having a full kitchen was definitely a plus, saving us time+money on breakfast+lunch. We would love to rent this home again in the summer or early fall.
Perfect for an 85 year old senior and her 3 - 50 year old daught
This home was perfect for the 4 of us to celebrate our birthdays. The location was excellent for daily touring of the area. Everything was as indicated so no surprises.
Very Comfortable Place
Very Comfortable Home away from home. The bathrooms were very large and the dining area was great. The patio was a great spot.
We stayed at By The Vines with 2 other couples and all six of us absolutely loved the house. It was furnished very nicely, the kitchen cupboards were neat as a pin and the overall condition of the house was spotless! I have been telling everyone I know to stay here when they visit Niagara-On-The-Lake. It was also so convenient to everything: the shops and boutiques, the wineries and the grocery stores. I'm just sorry we couldn't stay there longer. I will definitely be re-visiting By The Vines and I can't wait!
Extremely convenient rental for a family
Spent 3 days in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a family wedding. Our family included 5 adults (Ggrandmother, Grandmother, Grandfather, Father & Mother) and 3 children under age 7. This house was perfect the perfect size and in the perfect location for our needs. Wedding was held at Notl Gazebo at a waterfront park (<10 minutes drive), reception was at Hillebrand Winery (<5 minutes drive).
House was large enough for 8 plus vistors who dropped in throughout the day. House was very clean, all appliances worked, plenty of dishes and utensils provided and dishwashing supplies were more than adequate. There is large deck in backyard equipped with large patio table, 6 chairs, huge umbrella and natural gas barbeque.
Beds were very comfortable, plenty of towels supplied along with soap and shampoo.
This is the perfect base for a family visiting wine country and the many historic sites in the area (golf course is only 10 minutes away also).
Negatives noted were minor, 1. lawn care could be improved, 2. drain fly infestation in the bathroom on the first night which was cleared by pouring hot water in the secondary ddrain of the wash basin and 3. garage door spring cable let go rendering it unusable for the weekend.
Positive points of this B&B; far outweigh any negative points experienced. I would recommend this location to a friend and will certainly use it again in the future.
Response from Scott Webster - 09/20/2012
Im happy that you enjoyed your stay, i do agree that the lawn did not look very good during yoru stay, i have spoken to the lawncare company and voiced my displeasure, as for the drain flies i am at a loss on this one because its the first time in many years of owning this property that i have heard of this, i have never had this experience myself either. You will be happy to know that the garage door cable was replaced and the door itself was leveled and oiled and is now in perfect working order, its always inconvenient when things like this break but its also impossible to predict when it will happen and i hope it wasnt terribly inconvenient during your stay.
My lasting impression of this place was that it is just the property I should like as a second home if I won the lottery and I could find its counterpart in Nova Scotia (from where my husband comes)! Lovely spacious bedrooms, a huge kitchem and reception room and an enormous basement which we barely touched except to use the computer as it sleeps 8 and there were only 4 of us. I will definitely be back next time we are in the area
Response from Scott Webster - 09/19/2012
Im so happy you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to having you as our guest again in the future!
4 adults with two kids (9 years), perfect for our group. Went shopping accross the street, very convenient. Kitchen was well stocked to make our own food, when not discovering a restaurant. Super clean, we had everything what we needed. Wonderful area for cyclists and the house is close to the village.
incredibly poor customer service
I booked the house for 2 nights in aug 2012 and my credit card was charged a deposit. Approximately a week before our scheduled arrival, I emailed the owner for address/confirmation details. Nearly four days later (and just a few days before I was set to arrive) he replied that he had "no idea" what I was referring to. He let me know that there must be a mistake and he would look into it and refund any money asap. Five days later, after telling me he had no record of my reservation he found my information and was able to refund my deposit. He had very little contact with me during that time and when he did process the refund, did not notify me either.
Needless to say, I had to cancel my trip. I could not find a new booking and Scott was not helpful in that regard. I lost money on travel, tickets to plays at Shaw festival, etc. Not to mention that I also did not get the vacation that I had planned.
I did my research and picked this house based on positive reviews, location, price, etc. I think that all these positive reviews need a little reality check. I informed the chamber of commerce as well, they agreed that this was not suitable and would file a complaint.
My ratings are all one star as a result of the above.
Response from Scott Webster - 09/17/2012
Your recolection of the facts is both poor and inaccurate, you did not have a confirmed reservation with us, you submitted a booking request and i processed the deposit at which time it was discovered that my wife had in fact processed another booking that very day which was in fact confirmed, my booking system did not confirm your booking and therefore you were never a confirmed guest, as soon as i discovered the problem which was several weeks prior to your arrival i notified you immediately and offered to assist youy in find another accommodation, you declined my offer and i refunded your money. I am very sorry for the confusion as i previously stated to you and i find it highly regretable that you chose to book tickets etc without a confirmed reservation, had you accepted my assistance in finding another rental i can assure you that you would have in fact been able to enjoy your weekend stay
An absolutely over the top property. Everything was outstanding. The place is clean, spacious and cozy. Kitchen is well equipped and the gas BBQ is great. Thank you. We will be back!!!
I very much enjoyed my stay the location is great, the house is very clean had all he comforts of home.Lots to do and see in the area, would recommend to anyone travelling to the area.
Great house and great location.
We had a wonderful time and the house was very clean and well stocked for all our needs. The location was great to travel to Niagara Falls and other local attractions. The people at the winery next door were very frienldy and we even met the next door neighbor who was very nice. We enjoyed our time in this home and would highly recommend it.
It was a treat to stay in a property with plenty of room for 5 p
We found the home very clean and roomy. There was plenty of room around the kitchen table and the patio table for the 5 us to eat. The gas BBQ was huge. So nice to rent a place that not only sleeps 6 but allows 6 people to have their own space. Having a fruit/vegetable/deli right across the street was convenient as was the nut shop and winery. The grocery store was a 3 minute drive away. It was well located for access to downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls, or any where in the Niagara region. The owner was just a phone call away. It really was home away from home.
It was a very nice clean home
It was a very nice and clean home unfortunately it is on a main street and very noisy. The location is great as far as how far you have to drive to get to all the wonderful places and wineries.
Response from Scott Webster - 07/26/2012
I am glad you enjoyed your stay but i was quite surprised to see that you found the location to be very noisy, i personally stay at the property quite often and i have never experienced any noise concerns, and we quite often have guests comment on the fact that they were a bit nervous about the location for noise being on a fairly busy street but that they were pleasently surprised that in fact the noise was minimal at best.
Great set up in central location
My wife and son stayed at the property mid-week in the summer. The property itself is very well maintained and sufficiently modern. Very open feeling. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. The only question I had before arriving was whether being on the main road would be too busy. But you barely even notice this from inside at all. In fact, it was beneficial to be in the middle of the Niagara on the Lake area. It made getting to nearby wineries and the falls a little easier. Also great having a grocery store across the street so we could nip across to get some groceries. Loved having a full kitchen (and a bbq outback!) to make our own meals. Woudl recommend this to anyone and look forward to staying there again!
Home away from home
Plenty of space and comfort.
Good firm beds, clean linen and plenty of towels.
Good sound insulation from the outside with a nice exterior patio.
Situated on the main local road.
Scott your place was beautiful, clean, spacious, and relaxing. Location of this house is key- especially for families with kids. It's three houses down from a McDonalds and a Winery behind the house (adults). Our family really enjoyed staying here. Our only complaints was that the stay was too short :(. Looking forward to renting this property in the future.
This place was absolutely perfect for what we were looking for.
We were so delighted to arrive and find such a spacious house. There were 6 ladies and not only did it fit us all comfortably, the location was perfect. We needed 2 showers, (which is a must for 6 ladies)so getting ready in the morning was easy, and the great kitchen allowed us to bring in our own food and drinks to enjoy on the patio in a secluded back yard.
Very nice and comfortable
I stayed for 3 nights with 3 friends and we all had our own beds. The home was very clean, modern and comfortable. Location was very central to access Niagara on the Lake and all the wineries. The backyard was large and private with a nice deck to sit out on and enjoy our morning coffee and breakfast, a great way to start the day! We would definitely stay here again!

Everything was great and just as promised and expected.
We rented the home for 10 nights and had no complaints whatsoever. When we checked in we found the house to be in immaculate condition. It was a very comfortable place to stay, quite roomy, extremely clean, and with everything in working order. The location was very convenient. Niagara-on-the-Lake was a great community to stay in. Everything we wanted to experience in the Niagara Falls area was a short, easy car ride away, but far enough that we were not bothered by the typical buzz and business of tourist destinations.
We went with another couple and we loved it...essentially in the middle of the wine growing region and only minutes from the best restaurants, golf courses etc. Definite recommend!
We stayed at By the Vines for a weekend and found it to be very clean and comfortable. My son and his friends loved the basement which was equipped with movies, small pool table and computer with high speed internet access. We will definitely visit again and will recommend to friends.
An amazing vacation home!!
We stayed for few nights in the house. We were 4 adults and 2 children and it was wonderful, it was even nicer than it seems in the pictures :-)

My wife, daughter, son and I stayed here during March
Break and our stay was wonderful. Had all the comforts of home and excellent location. Right between Niagara Falls and St. Catherines, where we have family. Joseph's Wines are very very good and just a few steps from the back door, what an excellent location. The kids enjoying the Harvest Barn across the road for fresh fruit, vegetables and baked goods. They also enjoyed the MacDonalds 2 doors down. We are looking forward to coming back during the summer and next March. Excellent location, excellend memories and excellent service from Scott. :)
Great place to stay!
Me and my fiance enjoyed our stay at your home. We were sad the leave! The house is very well decorated and it makes you feel as if you are at home. A very cozy feel :) would love to stay there again!
A fabulous find for four to celebrate fifty
The house was perfect for our needs: a place for four women to relax and celebrate a friend's 50th Birthday. The location was excellent with Joseph's right in our back yard since we could continue sampling wine once we returned from our booked wine tour on the Saturday and The Old Winery where we had a Saturday evening reservation was only a short taxi cab ride away. The barbecue allowed us to cook up a quick, satisfying meal the night we arrived and the basement area enabled us to watch a movie comfortably. We would definitely consider returning again sometime.
Clean, roomy and great location!!
We stayed in this home over the weekend for the Icewine Festival!! We were very happy to arrive after an 8 hour drive to a clean house. Lots of room to sleep, great kitchen and the location was the key for us. The house was very modern and had a beautiful yard and deck, if it was summer when we went, we would of been outside all weekend! Lots of popular wineries on the same street as the house. Nice market with fresh fruits and veggies right in front of the house.
The thing I liked the best was the reasonable price and the location. The only constructive criticism I can give, since everything else was beyond our expectations, is that since we came in the winter and had lots of stuff since we were 4 would have been a cleared driveway from all the snow. It would of prevented bringing snow and mudd in the house!
Response from Scott Webster - 01/15/2012
I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay! As for the clearing of snow, the snow actually just started the morning of your arrival and even though we do have a snow removal service they typically wait for the snow to stop before coming to clear and if you were parked in the driveway they would have likely skipped clearing the snow until they found an empty driveway!
Stayed for the second time. Very clean and comfortable house with all the amenities you would need. Great for families.
Pleasant and Convenient
The house is properly maintained and cleaned. It is conveniently located too.
Great girls getaway
We had a fabulous stay at By The Vines. Spotless house to move into for the weekend. Kitchen very modern, living room perfect for 5 women to watch videos, drink wine & chat. Our group has agreed that our annual trek to Niagara-on-the-Lake will never include a hotel stay again!
Response from Scott Webster - 12/28/2011
Thank you for the great review, i hope you will stay with us again, i have some interesting enhancements planned for 2012!
nice house and nice area, but there was a bad smell in the downstairs.
Response from Scott Webster - 12/28/2011
Mark, Thank you for taking the time to write the review, I am very sorry you encountered a bad smell, I checked our records back to 2009 when you were a guest and my only explanation would be that we did have a plumbing problem around that time which was fixed immediatly and i have not had any complaints since that time, i hope it did not impact your stay and i hope you will stay with us again in the future!
Home away from home.
Tastefully decorated, roomy and comfortable. Property was clean and everything (towels, kitchen utensils) were easy to find. Very comfortable beds and pillows! Bedrooms have lots of storage and closet space. Lower level was bright and warm.
Overall, bedrooms offer privacy yet there's lots of open living space on the property, which makes it great for entertaining, making this property a much better alternative to a hotel.
This was truly a home away from home!
This place is way more than 5 stars...come to see; you will love it.
Kitchen appliances need replacement
Water kettle and cooking pans and pots were scratched and stained; all need replacement. Kitchen was not cleaned, stale coffee was left in the microwave oven, and dishwasher was stained and smell.
Response from Scott Webster - 12/17/2011
I am very sorry that you fealt that way, I wish you had taken the time to contact me as i would have rectified the situation right away, I have never had complaints like this in the past so it comes as quite a surprise to hear that!
Rented for 2 nights (5 people)...exactly as advertised...clean, spacious, comfortable beds, well equipped...directly across the road there is a small market with bakery...approximately 4 minute drive into historic Niagara on the Lake...quick and easy communication with property manager...key code given prior to arrival...would definately rent again.
Belmont, Michigan USA
What a find!!
This is a well maintained, immaculate vacation rental in a great location surrounded by wineries and close to the falls. It was a comfortable and cozy place to relax and hang out. It close to a busy road but once inside the house is quiet.
Great newly renovated home with a great location. Well equipped with all the amenities and a nice private deck out back for entertaining or relaxing. Highly recommended.
Everything You'd Ever Want
Stayed for a weekend in October. The property is in close proximity to a number of different wineries, of which the owner is very knowledgeable. He suggested a few gems in the area and we had a fabulous time. The place itself is very clean, with tons of space, seating and includes pretty much anything you'd need. All things considered, By the Vines is an excellent value.
Thanks again for the great vacation, Scott.
Excellent location in the heart of wine country!
I recently took a trip to Niagara on the Lake on a short semi-business semi-getaway trip. I was visting local wineries with the intent on purchasing local wines for use as Christmas gifts for major clients. Rather than going the hotel route, I booked us into this property and I have to say that the experience was fantastic. I would return again in a heartbeat. The location is absolutely perfect and the property itself is immaculate. It is very clean and well maintained, the furnishings are stylish and very comfortable and the service was second to none. It was very much like staying at a home away from home. In addition, my quest for the best in local wines was helped immensely by the property owner who was more than happy to advise me and share his extensive knowledge of the local wine industry. I rate this 5 stars hands down and I will be back.
A wonderfull vaction
We stayed at By the Vines for 4 days in October. Our goal was to visit as many wineries possible and we did. The house is very comfotable clean and well equipped. We enjoyed our stay, would recommend it to anyone wanting comfort and ease. We will go again next year.
Thank You Scott.

It does what it says on the tin...Brilliant
First I thought the organisation from Scott the property manager for the arrival was great. No stress. The villa is very big, clean with contempory decorated, plenty of space and all open plan.Even if the weather wasn't great it was fantastic plenty to do in the area close to all amenities and a lovely market across the road. There is plenty to do in the villa with games, dvd and internet etc...Everything has been thought of.The backyard is a good size and safe when you have children. The Barbecue is super we had lovely meals. The villa is very comfortable both sofas and beds,we sleep very well.As being myself a selfcatering owner, the villa was beyond my expectation and overall kept at a very high standard.I would recommend to everyone.
It really met our needs,
This house was the ideal spot to accommodate a group of ladies. The kitchen is amazing and the beds are very comfy. Since the weather was amazing, the huge deck out the back was just what we needed to enjoy our morning coffees and our afternoon snacks.
This was our second visit to the area and first time staying at by the vines. It was beyond great! The house is spotless and we truly enjoyed every minute of our stay. You can actually walk to Joseph's winery through the backyard!!! I would highly recommend this place to anyone. It's only a few minute drive to downtown niagara on the lake and there are several wineries within walking distance to the house.
Bob and Germaine
Clean, confortable and well equip house
The house was exactly what was shown on the web page. Everything was cleaned and in order. We really enjoyed our stay.
A Great Trip!!
My husband, two kids and I had a wonderful experience at By the Vines. The place was very clean and everything you need from tools to cleaning supplies is right in the comforts of your own home. I even brought my own milk bag container but little did I know they had one there too!! It was an overall great time and we would definitely go back there and make it a yearly trip!!
Duesseldorf / Germany
good place to stay near the Niagara Falls
a very nice home unfortunately located at the main street and accompanied by construction noise; very modern, clean and luxurious; beautiful garden with wooden terrasse and barbecue
Fun and comfort
We were 4 adults visiting the vineyards and winneries. This house met and surpassed all of our needs and expectations. It was extremely clean, which was very important to us. Both bedrooms contained wonderful queen size beds, so no coin tosses for the best room. It is located right in the districts we wanted to visit and was a short drive into town and the theatre. We Bbqed when not out to dinner. Made our own breakfast, and enjoyed evenings watching movies and chatting about our day's outings. Everyone in our party enjoyed the house and would like to come back and stay there again, soon.
Comfortable and convenient to visit Niagara on the Lake
Stayed 2 nights with my sisters to celebrate a birthday. Easy to find the house with directions. Suited us just perfectly. Two bedrooms and bath on main floor with bedroom and larger bathroom in the basement. Very clean. Lots of kitchen utensils for cooking. Internet provided with a computer a (however we couldn't get the wifi to work for our laptops). Barbecue available but outdoor area not in the greatest shape. We stayed inside with the a/C when we were there; however, because it was so hot when we were there. Would stay here again while visiting Notl. Need a car to get to the historic town.
This was our second trip to the house and it was fabulous both times! We've visited in the winter and summer and both were great. We love the location to numerous wineries. The house itself has everything you could want and is immaculate.
We'll definitely be back!

All This and Heaven Too
I've always loved Niagara-on-the-Lake, but our stay in By the Vines made this my best trip ever. The house was as described...but even more so--perfect in every way. Extremely comfortable, very well equipped, a perfect home away from away. Along with the beauty of the area, and the excellence of the Shaw Festival, this was one of the best vacations of my life. I'll be back next year...and into the future...
A comfortable and memorable stay.
Myself and my family had a very good experience at the house. It was clean, well located, well appointed and very comfortable.
We would certainly recommend this facility to anyone

From the first contact, to the check-out, we cannot fault anything with Scott or the house! We comprised 4 - my husband, 2 year old daughter and my mum, adn not one of us could find a reason to leave! Thank you for a wonderful home-away-from-home, we will return!
Spotless vacation home
Rental and contact with the owner was very efficient. You can rely on the pictures and the description for a well located house close to everything and surrounded by vineyards. All you need to have a wonderful stay.A/C became indispensable, the kitchen is well equipped for a nice dinner including outside patio if you wish.We would recommend without hesitation.
The onlything missing would be a pool
An exciting, relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Well maintained and comfortable house with the majority of amenities, situated just outside of Niagra on the Lake(a quaint and picturesque town).House is within easy distance from a number of 'must see' things, one of which is Niagra Falls and if you are wine lovers then you are spoilt for choice as there are numerous vineyards.
Having a car to get about is a must.
All in all a fantastic holiday.
Response from Scott Webster - 09/04/2011
I am very glad to see that you enjoyed your stay, we are actually located well within the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake however just outside of the Old Town section you are referring too. We hope you will come and be our guests again in the future!
Comforts of Home With Location!!
My husband and I stayed 2 nights at this property and hardly wanted to leave. The vineyard in the backyard was a great experience and being so close to the historic district was nice for a night out. Would definitely stay here if in the area again!
Great and confortable experience
We had a great stay. We were 6 adults and two children. It was very spacious, clean and with all you need in kitchen bathroom BBQ etc. We will be shur to book again !!!
Fantastic Rental Cottage in Niagara-on-the-Lake
We rent cottages almost every year, and By the Vines is one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. Loads of pots, pans, dishes, utensils and kitchen tools. Everything was clean and new. The cottage is on a relatively busy main road that leads into Niagara-on-the-Lake, right next door to a winery (handy!) and across the street from a farm market that sells produce, jellies, breads, etc. The only issue we had was that the wifi router did not work, but there was a desktop PC available for us to use. Scott was so attentive to our questions that I'm sure he has fixed it by now. We loved our stay!
Great house for families with teenagers
This house was perfect for a large family with teenagers; plenty of space for all and lots to do.
Exceptional accomodation all we could have wished for and more
The whole experience from booking to staying was excellent. The access arrangements were simple and easy to follow. The location was perfect with easy access to shops and surrounding areas. All our needs were catered for and we would have no hesitation in returning. We would also recommend the house to anyone proposing to visit and stay in the area.
Response from Scott Webster - 07/11/2011
Thank you very much for your comments, We take pride in our property and are always very pleased to hear that our guests had a great time! We were actually just named as "Top Vacation Rental" For Niagara on the Lake here on Flipkey, an honour that we are very proud to have earned! I hope you had a safe trip home and we look forward to seeing you again in the future!
Perfect for a girls weekend
We had an outstanding time - the accomodations were perfect for a group of friends to get together - all the amenities were provided... very close to town.
can't go wrong!
My husband and a couple of friends stayed at By The Vines.. we have a great time!!
The house is spacious, clean and centrally located to 5 wineries. We walked or took a short cab ride to several others. Downtown niagara on the lake is a quick 10 min drive.
The house has all the amenities you need for the perfect getaway to the wine region. I would highly recommend it. We will be back again!
by the vines easter 2011
lovely house .. but we should have borrowed a sat nav! it was actually really easy to find, but we misswed the turn of the QE2 due to roadworks in the dark and rain and got totally lost in niagara due to being given bad directions and even when we reached virgil we were looking on the wrong side of the road! but 3 hours after leaving toronto we made it and we were very pleased with the house! the children though the pool table was a hoot ... it was small enough to fit on top of the cupboard! downstairs had a bedroom in own mini living area and bathroom and utility ... like a tennage den! The owner provided soap, towels etc in the bathrooms which was really appreciated. very spacious. more or less next door to macdonalds. opposite a market style shop. we didn't notice road noise.
clean (no shoes in doors policy .. just like our own home)
niagara on the lake is actually really pretty (just up the road)
Albany, western Australia
Comfortable house with vineyard surroundings
Great place for extended family including 2 grand daughters and a son needing to finish a Masters paper.
Plenty of room for separate activities. Roomy bathroom downstairs. Very good winery at rear of property - 20m walk only to get a wine for the evening meal!
Well located with only a minor drawback of a busy front road and lack of childproof fencing for backyard..

This is the third year my girlfriends and I have stayed at By The Vines. It is the perfect place to stay. Will be back again and again.
I would like to thank you for a wonderful family experience at your great Niagara Home. The home was clean, we had everything we needed and more. Thank you for helping make amazing family memories.
My friends and I had an amazing time at By the Vines. We felt like we hit the jackpot when we entered the house. Everything was absolutely beautiful and we had all of the comfort of home and more at our fingertips. The house is extremely clean and comfortable. We can't wait to go back again in the summertime!!!
Girls Weekend Getaway
Had a Great time at the Niagara Wineries with the girls. it was close to everything we wanted to do and see. The house was clean, spacious and comfy.
Can't wait to go back!
Perfect Place to Stay! You won't be dissapointed.
My husband and I including a few family members spent a perfect weekend at By The Vines. Everything you need is in this house. Private backyard and a very clean and comfortable home. It is located close to many main wineries, shops and theatres. I highly recommend staying here. Thanks for a great weekend. We look forward to coming back in the near future.
What a great Getaway!
I stayed at By the Vines with a small group of friends, we were a bit nervous that the location may not have been as good as some others but it looked like a great property and the rates were excellent so we took a chance and we were all very happy that we chose to book this property, the location is fantastic, we walked to 4 different wineries within 5 minutes walk, there was food and groceries also within a very short walk, we especially loved how clean and well maintained the house was, I would recommend to anyone looking for a great getaway!

Taste the Season Weekend
The house is very clean and comfortable. Easy to find and easy to access. Very central to the wineries, which was the reason for our trip.
I had difficulty accessing the wireless internet but was able to utilize the network cable from the computer in the basement.
Comfortable bedrooms/beds. Bathrooms are modern and clean and well stocked with clean towels, etc.
We had a wonderful time at By the Vines.

Our second visit
We first stayed here in 2009 and again chose this vacation rental to stay during our visit to St. Catharines in 2010. As in our first stay, we were very pleased with the home, location, cleanliness and rate. We would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to visit Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines or the Niagara area.
We rented the house for 3 days, on a trip around the east of canada. The house is perfect, big, clean, easy to find, with a nice shop on the front and a nice wine-maker nextdoor. Easy access to the falls. The only problem was that our stay was too short.
A home away from home.
This place is a home, not a typical rental. It is new and clean and beautiful inside and very comfortable. It is a great place for 3 couples to enjoy - it was really bigger than we needed but cheaper than smaller places. We enjoyed staying here, but wished it was a little closer to the town (maybe this is why the cost was a little less than others). We plan on coming back here in the future.
Response from Scott Webster - 08/03/2010
Thank you for your comments, We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our property and constantly try to improve, as for the location many of our guests feel we are in the best possible location, a short drive from the old town area and just steps away from many of the local wineries, we are also onyl a short drive from Niagara Falls and many other local attractions, as for the rates, we are much less expensive than most of the properties in the area and i feel we offer much greater value, the rates will likely rise a bit for the 2011 season but we may extend old rates to returning guests.
Thanks again for your comments!

The property is very clean, comfortable and well-equipped.
We were very pleased with the general standard of the property. The basement 'den' has a very cosy feel to it. All the beds are comfortable and the whole house is very clean. The kitchen is well equipped and the bbq and patio area in the rear garden are also pleasant, although the property is situated on a very busy road, so there is a lot of road noise. Overall we were very impressed.

Excellent location, beautiful home, very comfortable
When making the reservation for a girls pre-wedding weekend. We wanted some place with a good location in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area. This house was perfect, not far from town, winery in the backyard, produce market across the street. Friendly owners that were very helpful. The house was spotless and filled our expectations! The only disappointment that we did not stay long enough to use the beautiful deck and grill. Next time!!!
Clean and spacious
We had a lovely time staying at your property. We appreciated the lovely decor and how clean it was.My daughter stayed with us the night before she got married and it was just perfect !
This place was wonderful and the little market accross the street was great for picking fresh produce, etc. I loved the privacy, the cleanliness, the outdoor grill and the other eminities. I had a wonderful time their and highly recommend it. It is truely a home away from home.

Fantastic weekend getaway!
My husband and I stayed with another married couple. We both had an amazing time at "By The Vines". The house was beautiful and had all the ammenities we needed including a barbeque!
It was within walking distance to a Farmers Market for great fresh food and right along the wine trail. It was close enough to everything. We went out for dinner one night to a beautiful restaurant in town and got picked up at "By The Vinew" for an all day winery tour. We would recommend this stay to anyone, and are hoping to go back one day soon.
Three friends and I were attending a conference at the Pillar & Post when we choose to stay at By the Vines. The house looked exactly like it does on the website. The kitchen and bathroom were well stocked. We enjoyed an afternoon drink on the patio. It is within walking distance to Winery, Fast Food and Market. We felt it was the most relaxing time we've had at a conference and 2 nights accomdation were less than 1 at the hotel.
The falls were unforgetable.
We came from the UK to visit relatives. By the vines proved to be very good base and it was very comfortable. The falls are something special, we shall never forget them, take the helicopter ride.
Very comfortable.Plenty of space and well situated
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. Clean and comfortable is very important to us and this did both. We would happily use this place again if we return to Canada.
We have stayed at the By the Vines resort a few times already, and it has always been fantastic. The house is in a great location and is always very clean and comfortable. We highly recommend staying here.
This is our second time at the rental property and have been more than pleased both times. Everything was perfect! We plan on staying again this coming year.

Wine Tasting - Niagara-on-the-Lake
We stayed at "By The Vines" for a few nights for a Fall get away in mid-October. We traveled from Cleveland, oh with another couple and we very happy with our accommodations. It was clean, comfortable and in a great location. We visited several wineries, did some great dining, and took in a play at the Shaw Festival Theatre. Niagara on the Lake is such a beautiful little town with many shops and restaurants. The surrounding area has some beautiful parks too. After a full day of activities it was nice to come "home" and relax. Everything you need is provided. Joseph's Winery right next door is a bonus! We would recommend this home to anyone. Scott Webster was easy to work with too.
Home away from Home...
The location of By-the-Vines is excellent if you enjoy walking. Jackson Triggs is about 15 minutes away by foot, and another 25 minutes will land you in the community of Niagara-by-the-Lake.
The spot is located in front of Joseph's Winery and across the street from an excellent fresh produce market.
It further offers an outdoor patio, BBQ, current movies, laundry, internet access, large kitchen, luxuriant sleeping facilities - which makes it most definitely your home away from home!
I, personally, recommend By-the-Vines as the perfect wine country tourist spot.

We have been absolutely delighted with the accomodation it exceeded our expectations. The level of cleanliness and the attention to detail is second to none. The location is great too with a lovely country store across the road and just a short drive into the beautiful old town.We will definitely recommed to anyone who might be coming over to this area. Thank you !
Traveled to By the Vines for a girl’s weekend in May. Had a wonderful time, great location to Downtown and the vineyards. BBQ one night everything worked great in the home. Manager was very accommodating with all our questions about the area and good suggestions on food and travel. Would go again!
Comfortable stay and great area to explore
We were 5 adults and a toddler staying at the cottage and had a really nice stay there. We loved the area and would really recommend hiring bikes for a day to explore the recreation trail. We used Zoom in Niagara on the lake. The house was great for us with plenty of space and a lovely balcony. It would have been great to have had a few additional things in the kitchen such as baking trays to put in the oven - it felt like it was kitted out more for people who ate a lot at the local restaurants - we would had loved to, but with a toddler it wasn't so practical. The owner was also very accommodating when we had to stay an additional couple of nights due to the volcanic ash issues. The basement bedroom felt a little cold, so an extra couple of blankets might be good down there. Thanks for a lovely stay
Exceptional quality and beautifully maintained.
Scott was highly professional from the overall management of the entire process from the booking to the day of our departure. Everything was above our expectations. It was so nice to have acess to the internet and a library of DVDs and games. Having a winery next door make access the some wonderful wine right at our finger tips. Shopping in Niagra on the Lake was only 10 minutes away an fresh fruit was right across the street. The best thing for us was the spacious basement beautifully finishes with lots or room for all 7 of us.
Exceptional house in Niagara
We were very impressed with the extremely high standard of accommodation. Excellent kitchen and a lovely area of decking. Winery behind the garden and a farm shop across the road. Superb beds and the mini pool table was much enjoyed.

LOVELY house, great location, few minor issues...
-This house was perfect in many respects: the size, the location, the layout. We have a 2-year old, so we were able to put her to bed early downstairs, but the adults could still enjoy the evening upstairs without having to tiptoe.
-When my parents arrived first, the heat was not working. When they called our host, he said he could not make it out until after 9 in the evening. Thankfully, my father was able to get the necessary parts (batteries) and fix it, but we were put off that the host did not seem at all concerned about the situation; even for the sake of the house itself! The host did indicate he would pay for the batteries when I asked, but when I discovered they cost less than $5, I felt silly about demanding that.
-None of the frying pans in the kitchen were fit to cook with (all the non-stick material was flaking off), so we went out and bought a new one.
-The living room could really use some more light to make it easier to read in the evening.
-Despite the few minor issues, we had a marvelous time, and would readily return- preferably in better weather!
Response from Scott Webster - 04/02/2010
I am very sorry that you fealt i was not concerned about the dead batteries in the thermostat, i was infact very apologetic and did call my maintenance man however he was not available until later that evening as indicated, I tried to call several times to make sure you were able to rectify the problem, these things do happen from time to time, I will however replace the frying pans as i was not made aware they were in need of replacing, please accept my apologies for that
A wonderful home away from home...
By the Vines proved to be the perfect rental place for my friends and I. It was beautiful, spacious, comfortable, and most importantly for myself, very clean. Also, it was no more than a five-minute drive from the places we wanted to visit in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Although our stay was very short, we were all so impressed with the home that we are certain we will be back! Looking forward to enjoying the patio in the summer months!

A very nice, clean & comfortable place to stay!
We enjoyed our stay at By the Vines. We were very impressed with how clean and comfortable the place is. Although it is a little out from the town, it is close enough. It was fun having a winery just outside the back door. We have visited Niagara-on-the Lake for the past 4 years and have stayed at different places. We will definitely consider staying here again.
This was very nice, clean and cozy. Its in a beautiful area. Not too far from the casion/falls. Lots to look at and explore. The wineries are very intersting. Resturants near by to dine. The rates are very good, compare to others.
We would for sure stay here again, when planning another getaway.
Perfect for a large family or a few couples
By the vines is a spacious clean and bright vacation home. We had a great time and
found the property perfect for our two families. I would highly recommend staying
there of you are looking for a central accomodations for four or more people.
We had a wonderful stay!
We enjoyed our stay at By the Vines very much. The house was adorable. Very spacious, lots of light. Enough bedrooms for all of us not to feel crowded. The house was cheerful and welcoming. Very clean, which we like. Much better than renting a hotel room. Close enough to all the spots we wanted to visit. We will definitely book again in the future and highly recommend By the Vines. Felt like we were at home.
By the Vines is a very nice property, the house is immaculate.I was very impressed by how nice the inside of the house is! I wish it was closer to summer when we went so we could've made use of the outside deck. Also, I also really liked the fact that it's right next to a small grocery store (we ran over there quite a bit). I don't really have anything to complain about. Overall, a very nice house!
By the Vines
Great cozy little home! We had a fantastic time here. Located right by the wineries, this house was situated perfectly to experience the wineries, local restarants, or dinner at home. It is nicely renovated and has all the necessary comforts for a relaxing vacation away from home. - Thank you!
Is home away from home
we love the house, it has a lots of space, don't have to worry about fighting for the internet..lol!!!
my daughter loves the tv in the basement, along with the computer down there...
we would love to come back again to stay for a longer trip in the future...
A so frenchy week end!
My friends and I have had a really nice week end at this cottage. Very clean, perfectly & nicely furnished. We enjoyed french lunch and dinner and also a tour in the area.
Hope to go back soon!
By the Vines is an Exceptional Property!
Just wanted to let everyone know that we had a fabulous time at By The Vines in Niagara on the Lake!
This is a beautiful, comfortable and, above all, spotless vacation property. We loved every minute we were there and felt right at home because nothing is lacking. Comfy beds, too!
The location is both nice and close to downtown Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls, shopping, dining and all the wineries you can possibly visit - including Joseph's right in the back yard. Loved to explore the area along the bike trails, too.
Thanks for a wonderful time! We'll be back!
Our stay was fabulous. The house was extremely clean,
cozy and comfortable. The decor was superb and we had
an amazing time. I recommend this house to everyone.
The location was great. The best features were the
comfortable couches and beds as well as a beautiful
By the Vines has all the comforts of home. Tastefully decorated and well equipped. It's conveniently located on the outskirts of Niagara-on-the-Lake and only a short drive to Niagara Falls. We enjoyed the scenery in all directions. Overall a good choice for our annual girls getaway!
Loved the place!
With a great pleasure I am writing this feedback. We spent 3 days and 2 nights at 'By the Vines' and had nothing but positive emotions. Before we arrived, I was worried that the place will be in the middle of nowhere (a few miles away from Niagara-on-the-Lake) but location was actually perfect - right in between the town and vineries (5-10 min drive either way). There is a grocery store across the street and quite a few restaurants to please any taste in 5 min drive radius.
The first thing we noticed when we arrived is how clean everything was.
Unlike at some places, everything we need was provided, from house ware and bed sheets to soaps and towels. Though weather was not as friendly as we would hope, we got some sun and were able to enjoy the deck. This was our favorite place whenever we could go out. However when we couldn't enjoy outside we had plenty of room inside, including large table in dining area, comfortable sofas in the living room and lots of games and room to play them in the basement.
We had a great time and the only stroke of dark colors in this rainbow of positive emotion was the camera charger I left in the house when we left.
Fortunately it wasn't lost and Scott, the owner, even drove to the place from Toronto to pick it up and deliver it back to me. This was a perfect finish to a great start. Thank you very very much!
Clean and comfortable
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at By the Vines.
Very Nice House
The house was clean and very convenient to get around NOTL. The only draw back is it is right on the main road into town and the street noise takes away from the relaxing experience.
Response from Scott Webster - 11/10/2009
Thank you for taking the time to complete the property review, I am very sorry to hear that you were disturbed by the road noise, in the many years we have operated this property you are the first to mention any issues whatsoever with respect to road noise, i myself stay at the property quite often and have never had an issue, in fact i can say with great honesty that i have never even so much as noticed the sound of a passing vehicle.
By the vines experience
Very well appointed cottage. All the mod cons other than egg cups. Comfortable and surprisingly quiet considering proximity to road. Computer, broadband and telephone a definite bonus. Would certainly revisit.
Bistro 67 (61?) in NOL highly recommended.
Could do with more atmosphere in lounge - lights etc.
All in all a great experience for two

Home away from home
The home is clean, well equipped and well laid out. We would stay again.
I would appreciate more information on how to "make your way down the walking/Cycling trail towards the Old Town past Stratus Vineyards and Jackson Triggs amongst others as the perfect ending to a great day in Niagara on the Lake."
Also .. Be aware that the excellent market across the street is only open 10:30 to 17:30 each day. However there is a very nice Value Mart in Virgil (not a walking trip)
Response from Scott Webster - 10/26/2009
The Walking/Cycling Trail runs right past the front of the house and does indeed pass right in front of Stratus Vineyards, Jackson Triggs and does take you all the way to the old town area, the old town would be a very healthy walk but certainly not out of the question
Canadian West Coasters
British Columbia (Vancouver Island)
We discovered By the Vines by accident after searching the web for a hotel
to stay in at St. Catharines. We found their rates very reasonable for our
family as well as providing a much better living arrangement than any hotel
We arrived late at night and everything was ready for us as promised. We
found the home well maintained, clean and suitably equipped. We were
worried a bit about noise from the main road it is on, but surprisingly, there
is little traffic that travels at night, so it was very quiet. We were awakened
one night by a "helicopter" landing.....in reality it was the frost fans running
in the nearby vineyards. However, they never held us back from a good
Shopping and groceries are all with in easy travel distance as are all the
local historical and tourist sites, not to mention the many wineries.
We would highly recommend By the Vines as a place to stay when traveling
anywhere in the Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls or St. Catharines area.
"By the vines" is absolutely right.
This house and its location are better than we expected.Beds are really confortable and the kitchen is well equipped .A soap shelf in the showers would be a good investment.
We will certainly return.
Geat House, great location.
We stayed 2 nights in August so we could visit wineries and the Shaw Festival. The house was lovely, clean and spacious. There was a big deck, and a grocery store accross the road. The location is just ourside Niagara-on-the-Lake and is very close to a number of wineries. There were six of us, and we loved having our own space and kitchen. Thanks, we would highly recommend the house.
Response from Scott Webster - 09/05/2009
Thank you so much for the comments and i am very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay, we hope to have you as our guest again in the near future!
Happy in NY
Great home and location
Having never been to the Niagra Falls before this was definately a treat. The home was clean, perfect location for the many activities in the area and priced well. We look to staying in the future,
Great Service! Very professional and courteous. Very Clean home, I will be certainly coming back again!
A very welcoming atmosphere
The house was perfect. It had plenty of room for our small children and a great backyard. The beds were very comfortable and there were lots of kitchen supplies. Having internet access was a real treat!
The only drawbacks were the glass coffee table (not very child friendly) and no dish towels.
Thanks for a great experience.
A very relaxing stay.
We both found the place very comfortable and extremely clean. It was almost like home away from home.
Family of 5
Perfect House for a family
We are a family of 5: 2 adults and 3 children. This was the perfect house for our stay at Niagara-on-the-Lake. At night, kids could play or watch TV in the basement while we could relax on the the main floor. Rooms are large, kitchen is well equipped. The house is located outside the village, but at a 5 minute drive from any point of interest (especially vineyards).
Excellent 5 star experience
We,a family of 2 adults and 2 children ages 3 and 8, spent a couple of nights in this self catering cottage. The standard of accomodation is absolutely fantastic with every conceivable luxury provided including a games room with small pool table, computer with high speeed internet access and patio with barbecue. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped.
The cottage is only a 3-4 minute drive from Niagara on the lake which is an absolutely beautiful village on the lake front.
Response from Scott Webster - 08/15/2009
Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to complete this review, we feel it is very important for potential guests to hear about the experiences of our past guests whether good or bad! Just so you know i just purchased a portable wine cellar which i will be installing on the lower level as a built-in into one of the walls. We hope you will stay with us again!
We stayed at By the Vines for a weekend and found it to be very clean and comfortable. It had lots of room, open concept kitchen was amazing. My kids loved the family room which was equipped with movies and games. We loved the location because it was close to the wineries and Niagara on the Lake. We will definitely book another weekend.
Rest and relaxation - perfect!
What a comfortable spot to spend a few days relaxing and forgetting about the real world. It really feels like a home away from home and has everything you could possibly need to make your stay enjoyable. Kitchen is fully equipped, and BBQ works great, even in winter. We recommend visiting the winery next door (Joseph's) and also the bakery at the corner of Mary and Niagara Stone Road (Willow Cakes & Pastries) for a treat or even just some great fresh-baked bread. For good take-out pizza, try Stone Road Grille (Rest-to-Go) in the same plaza as Willow Cakes, and you won't be disappointed.

Home away from home!
This home is very clean with open concept...great for visiting, beds are comfortable and having the two full baths was a plus, the kitchen had everything we needed and having a nice back yard was a bonus. We would book again for sure.
Great location, comfortable stay
By the Vines is a great place to stay if you are visiting wineries in the Niagara area. It has all the comforts of home, and cost less than staying in a hotel. My husband, daughter and I stayed there with another couple and had a wonderful time.
Cultured in Ontario
A divine vacation with stunning views and all in my own backyard
In May of 2009 my wife and I endeavored to agree on a vacation spot that was unique and well priced. Very good friends of ours recommended that we search locally as many people do not know the beauty that is Ontario. They further suggested Niagara on the Lake as their destination of choice due to the culture, vineyards, sight seeing and proximity.
Subsequently another couple recommended "By The Vines" as their favourite spot and they highly suggested we contact the properties management.
From that moment onward we were blown away by the professionalism, care and concern and the attention to every possible detail we received.
The service has been to date by far the best we have received.(and we have travelled the world and stayed in 5 Star establishments.)
The home is well situated, nestled into vine country. It is a very cozy and comfortable home that we felt welcome in and very at home. Within a short distance we had access to some gorgeous and famous wineries and stunning immaculate Golf courses (as we are avid golfers). We did not have an opportunity to get to the casino but we did take in a show and spent on day in Niagara Falls.
The only problem is my wife wants to come here twice a year now in the spring/summer and now the fall!!! Heck.....I am game for that....I just don't want her to know.
We had a great time at By the Vines. The property was immaculatly clean, and had all the ammenities we needed plus more. The property manager was very knowledgeable of the area.
We will definitly stay there again.
A Fantastic Stay
This was a great place to stay for our girl's weekend away. It is close to everything and the wineries were a great plus. The house was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We will certainly come again and recommend it to our friends and family.
Response from Scott Webster - 07/31/2009
I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your comments!
We really enjoyed our stay
We will be back, great place, great location, all of the comforts of home and the owners of the property were great!
Response from Scott Webster - 07/31/2009
We look forward to having you as our guest again in the near future
What a hidden gem!
Our stay was fantastic, we have stayed in NOTL many times and we were very pleasently surprised when we arrived at by the Vines to see how well maintained it was, not to mention it had everything that we needed, the winery is so close you can just walk out the backyard right into the vineyards! But unless you leave the backyard you dont even know its there! Highly recommend, we will be back for sure, not only is it a great property but also cheaper than many we have stayed at before taht were not nearly as nice!
Response from Scott Webster - 07/30/2009
Thanks for your comments, I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, be sure to recommend your friends and families!
Great place to stay.
Wondeful place close to everything............ but far enough that your out of the hustle and bustle.
Seems like a home away from home. All it needs is a pool or hot tub.
Response from Scott Webster - 07/31/2009
Thank you for your comments, maybe next year if all goes well we will consider installing a hot tub!
