TortolaDecently outfitted, cleanliness subpar

We had a family gathering there with my folks and siblings. We have rented numerous vacation properties and this was the most expensive we've selected but was by far the dirtiest property we've ever stayed at. We wanted somewhere nice for our get together but spent the first hour or so cleaning. The worst filth was the mouse droppings under the sink and in the cutlery drawer. In addition, the house was dusty, lots of cobwebs and bugs in the corners, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, garbage from the last group(s?) in the garage, garbage in the garbage cans in the bathrooms, fingerprints on the stainless steel appliances, open food packages in the cupboards... I can do with fewer amenities but cleanliness is really important. I left a voice message for the owner about an hour after we arrived to let him know that the cleaners did not do a very good job and still have not heard back from him. Someone showed up asking if we wanted the pool cleaned but that was the only contact we had.
The house and beds were comfortable and overall it was well outfitted but, man, if it's not clean - ICK!!! Especially at that price. -

The place was absolutely stunning. We arrived with 4 girls for a family weekend and found this to be the perfect spot. With 4 big bedrooms we all had our space and the 2 teenage girls loved the basement suite. With all the room, my wife and I even got to enjoy some peace and quite as the kids played in the games room.
We enjoyed the 15 minute walk to town and of course the wineries just make it that much more fun. We just can't wait to come back in the summer to enjoy the pool. -

What a great weekend at the Homestead! With 4 young kids, luxury and comfort means having enough space and bedrooms for everyone to nap and play and this vacation home hit the spot. We loved the pool and then enjoyed a great barbecue meal at the house. The location was also great when we wanted to take a walk to town.

We have travelled to Notl for the past 10 years visiting as many wineries as possible within the span of 8 hours. It was comforting to know that after being out and about all day, we did not face the long drive home and could relax in a very comfortable and familiar environment. The closeness to downtown and the easy access to numerous vineyards from this property contributed to the relaxation we felt. We enjoyed the pool and other amenities not usually found in B&B;,s. As well, the bicycles were a plus. We have recommened this property to several people wishing to explore the wineries and take in the Shaw.

Our experiance at the homestead was very good, the rooms clean and welcoming.
All or needs were met, we particularly enjoyed to large dining room and ample seating in the living room. The fact there was a main floor washroom was a bonus as my 91 year old father was traveling with us.
Next time we go it will be in the summer and we can also enjoy the pool. -

We enjoyed the house alot. Just a few things I would recommend is that there be more bath, hand, and washcloths in all bathrooms. A few of us brought our own but still didn't feel there was enough there for a house that could sleep ten. One other comment would be to possibly have something by the dishwasher that could let you know that the dishes are washed or unwashed. We found alot of silverware and cups with lipstick on them that were put away. My thinking was that someone thought the dishes in the dishwasher were clean--but it was never run. We left a note on the counter to let it known that we ran the dishwasher.
Also not all towels were washed from a couple of the bedrooms. The towels were hanging on the backs of the doors--and the one bedsheet had dried blood on it. The sheets and towels should probably all be white and be bleached every time.
Noting these items--we would not hesitate to visit again--we found it well kept --except a few minor things and the decorating was nicely done.Response from The Homestead - 11/11/2010

Sorry about the dishwasher and laundry issues. We've since adopted new procedures to ensure that such oversights don't happen in the future. It will never happen again.

This is the 3rd year in a row we've stayed in Niagara on the lake and the 3rd home. Biked into town every day. Pictures were accurate. Best part was the large backyard & pool. More fruit flies then the other 2 homes, but closer to a fruit farm then the other 2. Home was also older then the other 2 and needs some inside updating, but, for the $$$, was the best value of the 3 homes. Owner was very helpful and kind. Stayed with 6 people and could easily accommodate 8.
