Minneapolis, MinnesotaI will definitely go back!!
Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Our family spent a week at the North Shore cottage and it was spectacular. I was hesitant at first since there isn't a pool and the proximity to the beach. We have 2 teenage sons and the water is always a big part of our vacation. After reading the other reviews, we decided to give the cottage a shot. We were not disappointed!
The cottage is in a spectacular location, a short walk up the hill promises an awesome view of the waves crashing against the shore. If you're into mountain biking, this is the perfect place, the trails are right out your front door. There is a fair amount of traffic, bicyclists, tours, sightseers that pass by. We enjoyed the people watching, waved as if we owned the place.
The cottage itself is adorable. It's very cozy, but the high ceiling makes it feel more spacious. (It is certainly bigger than a hotel room.) The 4 of us were very comfortable and had no trouble finding a quiet spot when we needed alone time. That was usually in the hammock on the porch.
The cottage comes equipped with everything you need... towels, cooler, beach chairs, snorkel gear, etc. Check the shed before you buy more lighter fluid. We didn't and added one more can to the growing collection. We also did quite a bit of cooking. The kitchen had all the dishes we needed to prepare our meals. It was like home but in beautiful aruba.
Julia and Sjoerd have a jeep they rent out to their guests, take them up on the offer! It was waiting for us at the airport when we stepped off the plane. You need to get off the paved roads if you really want to see the island and you will need 4-wheel drive to do it. Frankly, some of it was scary, but very worth it. (The Garmin can even help navigate on some of the off-roading.) We drove to the California Lighthouse checking out the rock stacking along the way. We drove right up to the Natural Pools. We drove underneath the windmills. These are all sights you could see if you paid for a tour. We saved a ton of money going there on our own, plus, we could do it on our own schedule.
Palm/Eagle beach is just a short drive from the cottage. That is where the hotels are located. We preferred to drive a few extra minutes to arashi beach where it was much less crowded. We camped out under the divi divi tree, it was awesome. The boys rented surfboards on our last day (I'll add the name of the surf shop when I get it.) Dennis was great and delivered to boards right to us at the beach.
As for the owners of the cottage, I really can't say enough nice things about Julia & Sjoerd. They are truly some of the nicest, warmest people I've ever met. They were very accommodating, helping with everything from directions, to dinner suggestions, island history, you name it. Ask them about their future plans for the property. It's very exciting, we can't wait to go back and see it and them! -

North CaroilinaPeaceful spot, off the beaten path
Left on 11/05/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Being a small vacation rental, this seemed more like a home than a hotel. The cottage is likely to appeal to the "do-it-yourself" vacationer who enjoys a natural setting away from the crowds. We found this to be a quite relaxing. The frosting on the cake was Julia's service. She went out of her way to ensure that there were enough bikes at the cottage for our entire group. Biking on the endless trails near the cottage is a great way to see the natural beauty of the island, so this "extra" was quite welcome. If your ideal aruba vacation is an artificial resort experience right on the beach, perhaps check out the hotels down the road a few kilometers. But if you want to experience the real & natural aruba, give this place a try.

Relax pur!
Wir können die Cottage nur weiterempfehlen. 10 Punkte mit***!!!

We've just returned from a delightful stay in aruba at Julia and Sjoerd's lovely cottage. The cottage is exactly as pictured and offers a peaceful retreat away from the hoards of tourists in the high rise hotels on the strip. The cottage has been beautifully decorated by Julia, is fully equipped and Julia and Sjoerd are always available should you need anything. Everything you could possibly need to know about aruba and the cottage is included in a guide which is an invaluable source of information in case you don't have a guidebook.
Arashi beach is close by and a great beach where you can normally find a bit of space, a nice place to sink a few beers and watch the sunset. Malmok is also good for snorkelling. Our favorite beach on the island was probably Baby Beach at the south end of the island, nice long sandy strip and not too touristy. If you head there I can recommend Costa Riba for lunch for some good cheap Trinidadian food. Our favourite snorkel spot (fins and mask provided in the cottage if you don't have your own) was Mangel Halto which features a very pretty entrance out to the reef. Also included with the cottage are complimentary day passes to Moomba Beach Club if you feel like being waited on.
The cottage has a fantastic location being the last house on the road and offers uninterrupted views of the rugged east coast. I would highly recommend using the mountain bikes provided for a sunrise or sunset ride around the north east shore, absolutely stunning views. Also if you have a 4wd vehicle then you can have some fun driving down the east coast on the dirt tracks.
I would thoroughly recommend North Shore Cottage. -

Left on 09/23/2011 for a stay in September 2011
Well my husband and I just returned form the North Shore Cottage in Sunny aruba. Our stay was fantastic! The cottage was just as it looks in the photos online. Everything you need is already there and it is so clean and everything so perfectly in it's place! We slept better at the cottage than we do at home. So peaceful, birds singing, frogs - well whatever you call that thing frogs do (rib bit?), anyway just lovely. Julia and Sjoerd were both very pleasant and helpful. The cottage guide they put together for the your stay is very informative and extremely helpful when choosing things to do from beaches to dining out. We would recommend this to everyone and we plan to come back to Sunny aruba and we will stay at the North Shore Cottage. Thank you for a great experience!

Left on 06/01/2011 for a stay in May 2011
My wife and I stayed at the cottage for 4 nights. My wife is from aruba and we wanted to stay half of our visit away from the family and the other half of the trip with the family. We found this place online from Portland Oregon. This was the absolute best place to stay in aruba. Martijn (Manager) of this place provided the world class service to us. Just to mention we were even provided with a local cell phone for our entire stay so that we can make and receive calls on the go without any extra cost. And this service is available for all the visitors. We highly recommend this place for a stay for anyone planning a trip to aruba. Its located at a beautiful location with absolutely beautiful sunsets and away from the city noise.
We even forgot our camera charger when we left and Martijn took the time to mail it to us here in Portland Oregon. I can go on and on about this place and the service. -

We just returned from our vacation in aruba where we stayed at the cottage. We absolutely loved it! It is right on the edge of the cunucu, and a 10 minute walk to the rocky north shore. Beautiful! We had rented a car, so we found the location very convenient for traveling all over the island. The cottage really felt like home.

We were fortunate to have found this cottage and to have stayed there. The cottage is new, clean, and handful amenities avalable to use, thanks to wonderful owers, Julia & Sjoerd. They had everything from a detergent to mountain bikes. The cottage is at the end of residential area and surrounded by the untouched nature. With a short walk into the cactus desert, we could look down the ocean with cozy sea breeze. In the night it was absolutely quite that you could not be in the resort hotel area. Very relaxing. Our kids (8 and 6) enjoyed sleeping on the loft where they had two kid size beds (and a crib too!). It was like their private space. We'd like to definitely go back!! Thank you Julia & Sjoerd for wonderful aruba experience!

We can not say enough about what a wonderful place this is. This private, isolated, vista filled location is 10 minutes from the restaurants, casinos and beaches. The pictures do not lie, you are on the edge of the wild aruba hills. After a long day of play there was no better place to relax. It is not "if" we return to the North Shore Cottage, but "when". My wife and I loved so many aspects of this cottage. Since I need to give a balanced review, the intermittent hot water is the only item of concern for me. I found after a few days in the sun a cooler shower was all I wanted. I have already recommended this rental to family and friends.

This is a great spot off the beaten path. We loved the quiet at night, the stunning views of the cunucu, the location close to beaches, restaurants and anything else you would need and the owners are perfect hosts. If big hotels are your style, this isn't it. If a quiet and relaxing vacation is what you are looking for then you found it.

The host are most gracious and strive to make sure you are happy and have what you need. The cottage is off the beaten path, quaint, quiet, private, yet only minutes away from the beach and restaurants. The cottage is has everything you will need and much more. A short walk to the beach, marvelous sunrise's!
Everyone on this happy island asked how we enjoyed the island and our stay, we loved it.
Exceeded all expectations! We can't wait to return!!! -

we absolutely loved the cottage. it was perfect for us - a family of 4 with small kids. the house is so charming, located at the tip of what i would describe as a dessert but knowing that you are meters away from the most beautiful sea. Julia, the owner, is wonderful. we love nature, and having the privacy of a home, so this cottage was an excellent, and very affordable choice. we would love to go back, really soon.

North Shore Cottage was a nice little place to stay, and the location worked out really well for us.
Julia was very accomodating and helpful during our stay. It's not high end by any means, but it was very clean and practical if you are looking to do something other than the high rise hotel. -

The cottage was amazing. Julia and the rest of the staff at the Boardwalk were really helpful and very accommodating. The cottage was located near everything, it was like staying at a resort but 100 times better, more privacy, and it was very clean. The cottage had everything we needed, and there was nothing that I felt was missing. We did a drive behind the cottage which led us on the backside of the island, and the sunrises in the morning were breathless. This is the only place I will stay when I return to Aruba

This place is great for a few short reasons. One, its not in the resort area, you aren't claustrophobic from tourists or tempted to spend money on overpriced things. It's also a bike ride away from a beautiful natural beach. Two, the amenities are GREAT. The cottage has a fully stocked kitchen, a local phone, a cell phone that you can buy minutes for, cable, movies, music, a desktop computer and wifi if you have your own computer. They also provide snorkeling gear, mountain bikes, coolers, and lounge chairs. Third, the cottage is like a mini home. You sit out on the porch and have breakfast in the beautiful weather or sit in the hammock and get waved at by passing neighbors, or take the mountain bikes down to the natural beach and relax all by yourself.
It's beautiful, homelike, accommodating, and the owner was one of the nicest people I met there. I would recommend it to anyone. -

We simply loved this cottage! Stayed for a week and didnt want to leave. Tastefully decorated remotely located. Close easy drive to shopping and restaurants but we chose to say "home" and cook in the fully equipped kitchen. I loved the bathroom and all of the eco friendly touches of this little cottage. Its was romantic and would be a great retreat for couples, families, girlfiend groups, etc. It was spacious enough to entertain friends for my birthday. I had a great stay, highly recommend and look forward to my next stay in the little cottage

My wife and I had a wonderful vacation at the Julia’s and Sjoerd’s North Shore Cottage in Aruba with our young son of 18 months. It was the perfect place to spend a relaxing vacation with lots of toys for our son and everything we needed for traveling with a child yet still having a romantic getaway.
The cottage itself is fantastic. Very comfortable, private, and immaculately cared for while being conveniently located near the resorts and some of the best beaches on the island.
We also had access to the Aruba Racquet Club through Sjoerd as well as use of the lounge chairs and amenities at Palm Beach by the Marriott Resorts. This was great because we had all of these facilities within a 3min drive from the cottage but none of the noise of being surrounded by lots of tourists when we got back to our cottage.
Julia and Sjoerd go out of their way to be great hosts and meet your needs. They also provided us with a crib already set up at the cottage, a high chair, children’s toys, and a forward facing car seat which really made a big difference for us.
I would highly recommend their North Shore Cottage to small families traveling together or couples looking to get away for a romantic vacation.

The North Shore Cottage is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the island of Aruba. It's close enough to the action but far enough to get away from it all. The service that we recieved was top notch. Julia made sure that all of our needs were met and then some. My husband and I stayed for 11 nights and did not want to leave. The cottage has everything that you think you would need on a vacation. It was very clean and plenty of space for the two of us. I would highly recommend the North Shore Cottage and hope to be back next year.
