Moorland View is a two bedroom, boutique cottage in an idyllic 13th century village in the lushly wooded hills of Dartmoor National Park, Devon, UK.
The cottage is made for romance. Oak-beamed walls, log fires and sheepskin rugs make it country cottage-cosy, while shimmering wallpapers, ornate mirrors and a huge copper bath for two add a dose of glamour. Romantic touches include Molton Brown toiletries, fluffy dressing gowns and slippers, scented candles and freshly cut flowers.

Additional Location Information
One of the UK's prettiest historic villages, North Bovey is made up of a medieval church, a handful of thatched cottages clustered around an oak-shaded green, and a traditional pub, complete with real ales, hearty local food and a roaring fire in winter. The area is rural, safe and peaceful; the only sounds are of birdsong, distant church bells and the occasional clip clopping of horses' hooves.
Dartmoor is one of the UK's largest national parks, with 365 square miles of wilderness, and there are dozens of beautiful strolls on the cottage doorstep.
The two MIchelin-starred Gidleigh Park is a 20 minute drive away, and the white sandy coves of the South Hams are a 50-minute drive.

Left on 03/27/2012 for a stay in March 2012
What can I say? How can I add to the other great reviews? why bother when it has all been said before? I guess, because a place like this deserves to keep on getting the consistently high praise that it does, and that to not write a review simply because there are lots already, would take away from what Suzy has achieved.
Yes, it is chocolate-box perfect. Yes, it is in outstandingly beautiful countryside. Yes the decor is lovely. But how can I encapsulate the entire package that left me feeling completely relaxed, refreshed and revitalised? Its all those wonderful details that make up the whole experience.
The little niceties: the fluffy bathtowels, the tiny details. Log fire all laid, Jar of marshmallows beside fire. Little toasting fork with which to toast marshmallows! Sigh! Would you believe even a jar of mint humbugs in the downstairs loo to freshen up while entertaining! mountain bikes, and safety helmets... very carefully thought out information manual with multiple copies of each suggested walk + map so you can take a copy with you. Lovely toiletries and hand creams. A welcoming bottle of wine and little card! some high quality 'welcome' groceries included: breads, butter, biscuits, tea, coffee, herbs, spices, crisps, olives, so you can arrive in and chill immediately. the fact that everything has a little spot to be tidied away and stored so easy to access, easy to find immediately and yet the cottage remained clutter free even though sharing with friends and a small baby. Torches for midnight walks through the woods. I could go on... they have thought of everything.
Kitchen: I am foody and love to cook. As well as us two couples staying in the cottage, we were entertaining on the Sunday for other friends who were driving up from their various homes within a 80 mile radius. I was concerned I would have difficulty in catering for them in such a tiny cottage, but the kitchen is so well designed, everything easily stored and to hand, lots of accessories and implements (even coffee grinder :-) ), so it all was very pleasurable and we cooked up a storm.
Bedrooms: Beds were Sooo comfortable. The view out of the master bedroom window is to die for!
Bathroom: the huge copper and tin bath - you have not lived until you have sunk down in bubbles here.
Surrounding amenities and countryside:
Lots of walks of varying difficulties all within car-free reach of cottage; little stream at end of road; charming church in village ; woods, village green. Beautiful.
Ring-of-bells pub is great. Nice food. Characterful and accommodating. Staff were very welcoming to cheery (but rather vocal) small baby. The best bit is that this is a two minute walk back to the coattage, and with a warming meal and a few glasses of wine inside you and a blanket of the most amazing stars above, this will be a two-minute walk you want to extend.
Bovey Castle - I think I preferred the fact that I wasn't staying here, away from all the hotel guests, our own space, yet we had all the benefits of this stunning hotel. I had the pool to myself for an hour each morning! steam rooms, jacuzzi, sauna all thrown in with the price of the cottage. And with 20% of spa treatments, and afterwards stunning dining and lounge rooms to relax in with a glass of chilled wine in front of roaring fire, it is no wonder my friend and I abandoned husbands and baby to luxuriate here for an entire morning and early afternoon. And what a fantastic walk through woods and along streams to get here. I was lured into getting up really early on the sunny Sunday morning for a mountain-bike ride through the woods to come for a solitary swim. Heaven. So good that this is all part of the cottage package.
Exeter cathedral worth a look, but annoying guide kept pestering us and wouldn't leave us alone. Charming Moretonhampstead has nice shops for your provisions. -

Everything that is written and photographed about this lovely cottage is true. It is situated right on Dartmoor and the surrounding walks are breathtaking. Suzy has thought of everything to provide 5 star comfort and luxury. It isn't cheap, but is worth every penny. The village is picturesque and so peaceful. Suzy has decorated and furnished the cottage to a high standard and you will come away wanting to refurbish your own home with some of her ideas. It was spotleesly clean thanks to her hard working housekeeper (I'm a stickler for a clean abode!)

Left on 03/04/2012 for a stay in November 2011
My wife and I stayed at Moorland View Cottage for two weeks in late November 2011. This was a surprise vacation for my wife to celebrate our 20th anniversary, our first trip to England, and our first stay in a self-catered cottage. What a fantastic experience!
The drive from Heathrow and between the tall hedgerows to North Bovey was a bit harrowing, especially on just a few hours sleep after the long flight and while learning to drive on the left side of the road. We quickly adapted to the narrow lanes, though, and within a few days we were able to travel the area with more confidence.
Early in our stay we arranged a day hike with Debbie Jenkin (a North Bovey resident) and it was a terrific way to get the lay of the land, insight into the history of Dartmoor, and ideas for other walks to take during our stay. We also had a fantastic time spending a day with Martin and Louise from Dartmoor Hawking as we and a couple from Cornwall learned to hunt rabbits and pheasants with some incredible birds of prey.
For those traveling to Dartmoor by air, we highly recommend renting a car (a small car). The closest town to North Bovey is Moretonhampstead, which can be reached on foot in about an hour. Michael Howard, the butcher, has an excellent shop in town that we frequently visited to get something for lunch or to buy groceries for our dinner. The Coop in Moretonhampstead was also a good place to go to for any other provisions we needed. But, beyond Moretonhampstead, any other village or town was at least a two to three hour hike (but just a short drive). We had an excellent pub lunch at The Cleave in Lustleigh (about two to three hours one way on foot). Dartmoor has an excellent system of trails and walking paths, but it is rural and having a car will allow you to travel further afield.
One of our best day trips was a drive down to the English Channel and the city of Dartmouth. We had a delicious lunch at The Seahorse. We also made a trip into Exeter near the end of our vacation, but after ten days of peace and quiet in and around North Bovey, the hustle and bustle of the city was a bit too much for us (and we were there on a day when public employees were on strike so it was especially crowded in the city center). We did manage to escape into the calm of the Exeter Cathedral and only wished we had not arrived so close to closing time.
The cottage was gorgeous and equipped with everything we needed for our stay and was plenty roomy enough. We never got “cabin fever” even though we visited during a time of year with short days and traditionally poor weather. The only improvement we could suggest would be to have the shower curtain in the bathtub re-hung to allow more space to stand in the tub so that it doesn’t stick against you when you’re showering.
The Ring of Bells was a regular stop for a meal or a pint of ale or both. The staff and the patrons were very friendly. A dog friendly establishment, it made us miss our bull terrier back in the States, but allowed us to get our canine “fix” by visiting with the village dogs that hung out in the pub in the evening. We had dinner at Gidleigh Park to celebrate our anniversary and for our american Thanksgiving dinner. The food was excellent and the staff very attentive, but it was just a little too formal and attentive. We may have been happier if we had just had lunch there.
A tip for fellow americans: understand that in England (and probably elsewhere) it is customary to have drinks before dinner. In other words, settle in at the bar for a glass of wine or a pint, look over the menu, and relax while your table is being prepared. You may even be asked to order your dinner in the pub or at the bar before getting shown to your table in the dining room and sitting down to enjoy your meal.
Suzy was exceptionally helpful both before our trip and during our stay. She has indeed thought of everything and the cottage felt like home from the moment we arrived. We took full advantage of the sound system (with speakers throughout the cottage) and Spotify service to listen to any album/musician desired.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Moorland View and having no prior knowledge of the Dartmoor National Park region, we could not have been happier with all that this beautiful corner of the world has to offer. The village, the park, and the cottage made for a perfect vacation. -

We so enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. We were very excited about visiting but I honestly think the cottage is even better in reality than in the pictures and that is just amazing as the pictures were amazing enough!
I truly loved Moorland View, it is absolutely sublime and everything is so luxurious and pristine - yet Suzy has magically struck that balance of the whole cottage being so elegant and perfect whilst being so welcoming and like a home from home as soon as you walk through the door at the same time.
I honestly cannot praise Moorland View enough, Suzy's attention to detail with the smallest of things is super! We truly truly enjoyed the peace and quiet and loved pottering around the kitchen and falling in to the gorgeous bed at night and feeling so cosy.
North Bovey is an unspoilt piece of perfection tucked away in Devon. The Ring Of Bells pub handily situated a few seconds from the cottage serves delicious food. Gidleigh Park is a wonderful dining experience. There is so much to see and do in Devon in all weathers and Moorland View is the perfect base at the end of your end, it is also the perfect place to spend your day doing absolutely nothing.
By far, the most amazingly gorgeous cottage we have stayed in on our UK breaks.

This, by a huge margin, is the most beautiful cottage we have ever stayed in. I have stayed many times at a range of 5 star establishments including the likes of Gleneagles and Moorland Cottage beats them all. The attention to detail and the clear decision by Suzy to employ best in class for everything makes this place a wonderful experience.

It is difficult to put into words how magical Moorland View Cottage really is. I spent a long weekend there with my boyfriend and it is a weekend that we will remember and talk about forever. Every last detail has been taken care of. The bed and bed linen are to die for, the bath tub is the deepest most romantic you could ever imagine and the log fire just sets the scene perfectly. I could go on forever enlisting all the magical touches which make the cottage so idylic but its actually the combination of them all that create that 'je ne sais quoi' which is impossible to put into words but simply has to be experienced to fully appreciate and understand it. I want to sing about this place from the roof tops but at the same time I want to keep it a secret so that its always there to go back to whenever we need that little bit of magic in our lives again...which will be pretty soon I expect!

If you can fit it all in, go for walks to Bovey Castle, play golf, take a swim and share fish and chips with an ale, then head home and make love in the most romantic bedroom around. Head over for walks on the moors, drive to nearby little towns, head home and make love, have dins with Simon the local publican, cuddle up to a dvd and make love. Go for a ride, head over for an expensive 2 star Michelin lunch and ...you guessed it...fall in love at Morrland View.

Suzy has done an impeccable job with this charming thatched roof cottage. Perfect blend of old country charm and modern conveniences. North Bovey is an ideal place from which to base yourself in Dartmoor Nat'l Park, the village is straight from a storybook. High on romance: the bath tub is beyond, the linens crisp and white, the decor was a soft palette of luxurious grays/silvers etc. We were actually thrilled with the one morning of rain we had during our sun-shining week - it gave is the perfect excuse to snuggle into the fluffy slippers and robes and sit in front of the fire. We took many of Suzy's recommended walks, each very lovely. We took full advantage of the access to Bovey Castle, played tennis, had tea, round of golf and so on. We ordered in some food, the lamb casserole was divine; everything was presented with such prettiness. Who would think to gush on about the placement of eggs in a kitchen?? But its possible at Moorland View. Suzy has thought of everything and delivered it all in a quiet elegance. I'd go back again and again if I didn't live in New York!

Stayed the Moorland View over Easter and cannot tell enough people about how nice it was. Once we made it out of busy London and away from the traffic james of the south west, we fell in love with North Bovey and all it had to offer.
The cottage was a great romantic break for the 2 of us, complete with welcome gifts of wine, the most delicious chocolate mousse and breakfast for the next day. We had everything we could need, wellingtons, newspaper, fireplace, short and long walk routes, an amazingly fitted out kitchen, surround sound music system, sky tv, fresh air, gorgeous cottage - not to mention the molton brown toiletries!
Suzy really has made this a great place to stay, whether for 2 or 4 people you will have a great stay. We even had a discounted meal at Bovey Castle (after our beauty treatments at the elemis spa) and also enjoyed lunch at nearby Gidleigh Park. -

We stayed at the cottage in February this year and had a fab time.
I can honestly say I can not find anything negative to say about the cottage or the location! It really is one of the most wonderful places I have stayed. To be able to get up in the morning in lovely white company dressing gowns and pad down to the cosy sitting room to have a lazy breakfast is the perfect way to start the day. It is so lovely not to be under time restraints that you always are in hotels. Suzy has thought of everything!
There is so much to pack into your stay, eating at lovely pubs, massages in Bovey Castle, a gastronomic experience at Gidleigh park that we need to go back to go and do all the rest! We did a wonderful walk on the Saturday surprisingly ending up a the pub for a late lunch! This really was a weekend to get away from it all and I came back to London really feeling rested!

Just from looking at the website I absolutely knew I wanted to spend if not all at least part of our honeymoon at Moorland View Cottage. I had initially been told it was fully booked but a last minute check revealed we could stay for 4 nights. We booked the full honeymoon package and were not dissappointed by any of the services. The actual cottage is a work of art and a labour of love and though it rained constantly we were totally happy in the beautiful cottage in front of a fire or visiting the fabulous Bovey Castle to use the beautiful spa, a great perk of renting the cottage that for me was a real deal clincher. This was a 5 star boutique experience and we loved every second of it.

Moorland view is a beautiful cottage, that has been superbly restored to an extremely high standard. The result is a stunning holiday home, that strikes a perfect balance between modern facilities and homely comforts.
Enormous care and attention has obviously gone into every detail of the cottage interior, which has a really high quality feel to it, but still manages to feel calm, relaxing and welcoming.
As a location, North Bovey simply cannot be beaten and there can be few villages anywhere in the country as perfect as this.
The service we received while staying at the cottage was excellent and we would thoroughly recommend Moorland View to anyone interested in really getting away from the daily rat race! -

Reading, BerkshireA Dartmoor gem
Left on 01/15/2010 for a stay in December 2009
We spent a few days at New Year in this lovely thatched cottage in North Bovey. Beautifully restored and decorated by the owner, Suzy Bennett, Moorland View offers style and luxury, hidden away in one of Dartmoor prettiest villages.
Comfortable beds made up with fine linen, a superbly-equipped kitchen, a good supply of logs for the open fire made this place a real treat. Suzy also left us welcoming touches including fresh flowers and a bottle of champagne, making the whole experience extra special.
The cottage is ideally located for walking in Dartmoor and there is a good pub in the village if you don't want to stray far.
If the weather is bad or walking is not your thing, the cottage comes with membership to nearby Bovey Castle, allowing you free access to the hotel's pool and fitness suite. We only used this once as the scenery is too beautiful to stay indoors.
There are no real downsides to this property. It's not cheap to rent, especially in the holiday season, but it is true that you get what you pay for, and it was worth it for the quality of the accommodation. Hesitation about bringing our muddy boots into such a beautifully-presented cottage was the only concern!

My fiance and I had a perfect week long stay at this cottage over Xmas '09. The cottage is beautifully decorated, with every detail taken into account, making the stay most convenient and enjoyable! It actually surpassed our expectations in each and every way! The cottage is most impressively equipped with state of the art surround sound system, wifi access, Sky, designer bathroom, and the overall style of the interior design is most tasteful! Pefect combination of modern and the original cottage features under the same roof! The village it is located in is lovely, and the local pub Ring of Bells is a must - the food is superb! And plenty of activities nearby: Bovey Castle, Gidleigh Park with a two Michelin star restaurant, plenty of country walk trails, etc
One thing to point out, which is very minor in the grand scope of things, is the usage of logs for the fire. We were informed after our stay we used too many logs (albeit severe frost during our stay). Recommend that the owner managers expectations on log usage up front.

Moorland View Cottage is so beautiful and comfortable that we only ventured
out for a couple of hours during our stay to see if we could find any wild
ponies. We did – 11 wild ponies!
A truly wonderful weekend! Next time, we'll be staying for one week :o) -

On arrival at the cottage, having collected the keys from the pub, we found it to be warm and welcoming. The bottle of wine, chocolate dessert, fresh flowers and hand written welcome card from the owner set the scene for a relaxing stay.
The cottage itself has every comfort and oozes charm. It has been lovingly restored with beautiful taste.Everything is of the very highest quality and the attention to detail is impressive.
The village is picturesque, with many thatched dwellings, a village green and an excellent pub serving delicious food. The only sound in the morning was the hooves of passing horses.Idyllic!
We loved the beaten copper bath. Very romantic!

We called Suzy on the Monday morning and were there with the fire roaring by dinner time. The weather was windy and rainy...just perfect.
The cottage is absolutly beautiful..the decor is fab and the bed the comfiest best ever.
We managed to go for dinner at Gidleigh Park which was superb...treatments and golf at the castle were great. We are looking foward to our next stay...Suzy is a star! -

This cottage is gorgeous! Tucked in a quintessentially British village in Dartmoor complete with thatched cottages, village green & lovely local pub, and that's just the surrounds... Moorland View has been done up exquisitely and is beautifully luxurious. We stayed with another couple and felt totally pampered with all the goodies in the cottage. Am already looking forward to go back for a romantic weekend away. Oh and i can highly recommend the cream teas at Bovey Castle - a short country walk away...

The accommodation was excellent. It was uniquely
beautiful and luxurious. The bed was super
comfortable, the sound system a pleasant surprise and
the bath was heaven. The kitchen was well stocked-
every utensil you could need was there! Useful advice
was provided on what to do and where to eat.
Throughout the stay we had the feeling that someone
had thought of everything. -

Well, on the website it looks amazing - but it's even better in real life! Forget
the chintzy, fusty soulless self-catering cottages you normally get. This place
is furnished beautifully, with lovely sheepskin rugs, gorgeous silks and
shimmering wallpaper, all in calming dove greys, oysters, pastel pinks and
sage greens. It's got a lovely atmosphere, all warm and cosy, as if it's a proper
home. Everything we needed was there for us: music, log fire, mags, Sunday
papers, lovely fluffy dressing gowns, welly boots for country walks. And the
bed, ahhhhh the bed .. it was like sleeping in a big fluffy cloud. We went for
our 20th wedding anniversary and fell in love all over again. Thank you!!! -

This beautiful cottage is absolute 5* luxury. Stayed for 5 nights in Sept 09. A romantic hideaway with perfect peace & quiet. Everything that you would need is at your fingertips. Fabulous bedding, towels & toiletries. Log fire, board games, wifi, surround sound music in the important rooms (take your ipod) Sky TV, Blue Ray DVD. The local pub is a must, great company and great food. Also if you have the time take a drive to Topsham, brilliant individual shops & antiques on the quay and Bovey Castle hotel & spa is amazing.
Would throughly recommend to all, the perfect escape from the rat race a little piece of heaven in Devon

The one thing we all thought about our stay was, not long enough! Such a lovely
