First, what a great time we had. It is such a relaxing atmosphere and everyone we had contact with from NCIC was great. We had a little trouble with our golf cart and it was taken care of pretty much right away. The house was about 50 steps from the gulf side of the island and was very clean and comfortable. It was nice to sit on the screened porch during the one rain storm we had and watch it roll in off the gulf. The kids had a great time, we rented a boat and island hopped one day to Cayo Casto and Cabbage Key(truly is a great burger), worth the stop. You need to get your groceries and drinks ordered and brought over as there is little to get on the island, Publix or Winn Dixie are the spots I'd recommend.
Would you recommend this vacation rental to a friend?

North Captiva Island is a really unique island. This house has be mostly renovated and very nice.
We enjoyed our stay with a few caveats and would consider renting again.
We liked the:Nice view, updated kitchen and master bath, screened porch, quiet location and golf cart availability
suggested recommendations: need better bed linens, (cheap given what affluent clients are used to at home), comfortable pillows, needs new pots and pans, utensils, and needed some bug spray on hand those occasional bugs in the kitchen/bath. Read more

This cottage was overall perfect for what we needed.
While the listing says it's new, there are a few maintenance issues that need addressing to keep it that way, won't waste time mentioning here, as they are easy fixes. No dealbreakers, just basic stuff that needs to be kept up with. I have submitted a list of these fixes to Ncic as well.
The house is very comfortable. It's actually exactly what we would like to have if we could move there (and we're seriously considering it).
The only real cons: hot water doesn't last long - shower heads in the Master are old school, high flow, but easily replaceable with efficient ones, extending the hot water. Truth be told, if it's 80 or warmer you don't want too hot a shower, but at 64, it's nice to knock the chill off. You also can't fill up the jacuzzi tub for lack of enough hot water to even cover the jets.
The outdoor hot tub lost about 1/3 of the water over the course of our week - water level was barely above jets when we left.
You'll be sweeping continually, but it's a beach house, just plan on it.
Kitchen utensils pretty worn, but functional. we cooked, so if you're eating out the whole time, it's not an issue. if you do cook, plan on 2 trips to Publix, one for the initial list, then one for stuff you forgot - the "resort store" - pretty disappointing.
If someone watches TV late, you'll hear it in the Br's. But in an open space with tile floors it's unavoidable, just keep it in mind.
Furniture needs cleaning (it is a rental, being realistic). Beds are decent, sheets not so much.
Triple sliders doubling the living space - awesome
Master Bath - awesome
Kitchen - perfect for what we needed
Had a Washer/Dryer - awesome
Hearing the waves on the shore from the house - awesome
Easy to keep clean (with 2 kids and a sandy dog) - awesome
Interior decor tasteful - loved the lantern in LR!
Gas grill downstairs - awesome
Being on the airstrip - very cool
Thank you for taking the time to review! We are working on the list you submitted. Thank you for also taking the time to do that, it helps us improve as we strive to provide an excellent experience.
We are glad you enjoyed your time and hope to see you again soon as returning visitors or maybe residents!

The "I'll be back" island

Truly, North Captiva has captivated my family and I! We will be going back soon. Travelled there for the week between Christmas and New Year and had the most amazing family holiday. Real quality time, no hassles, no stress. The Gulf Breeze cottage was great. Plenty big enough, updated, clean and well appointed. What we liked most was its location on the island; off the beaten track and next to the tiny runway. Watching the biplanes take off and land was a real treat. Beaches pristine. Vacation club amenties great. If you like wildlife, nature & sunsets on the beach, this is the place for you. If you like being attached to your TV, laptop or phone, stay on the mainland! There is a TV, landline and access to a router, but when in Captiva, who would want to plug into that, when you can plug into the beautiful island! Read more

Thank you for taking the time to review. You are so right, time at the island is the perfect time to "unplug". We are glad to hear you and your family had a great holiday on the island. Watching the planes land and take off is always a treat to watch. We hope to see you again soon!.

This is a very nice cabin. The owners have done some beautiful up grades since the photos . What still could use improvement are the cookware , the bakeware , kitchen utensils and the linen feels cheap and worn. The furniture is on its last leg. Otherwise the place is clean and well laid out.i would return but I would have to bring some kitchenware.
p.S. a little landscaping would be nice!

We loved this cottage! It is quite misleading from the outside as it looks old and worn but inside it is completely renovated with modern appliances, nice colors/decor, big size bedrooms, open living room space with lots of natural lighting, huge master bathroom and a spa on the deck. Within walking distance to the beach. Loved the golf carts as medium of transportation too!

The home that we stayed in was the joy of our vacation. It rained the majority of the time while we were on the island and were thankful for the small touches of our home which made our rainy vacation enjoyable.

The ncic was the easiest booking ever, and the most friendly people you can meet! We enjoyed the ferry ride, they handle your luggage, they have a good setup here. We left 2 bags behind at the Ncis on the mainland when leaving, with no trouble at all our bags were boxed up and shipped right out. Thank you to the employees, especially Kathy, Yvenna, and Scott! Everyone here is awsome! The house was just prettier than the pics, we were very satisfied! The beaches are beautiful really beautiful! The sunsets are too! The golf carts are really cool, gives you a chance to explore the island. Wildlife everywhere which was a major plus for us! (lizards, turtles, birds, dolphins, and nightly beach crabs everywhere, and the best shelling. The best dinner we had was Over the Waterfront Dave is truley the best, he made our dinner so special, and a t-rex foil dino for my to go items, so so neat!! His food will melt in your mouth!! We could not have enjoyed our stay more, perfect weather and the best place to vacation and truley R and R. Oh and the airstrip is the coolest, keep your eyes open for planes, such a treat to watch them, this place is so perfect! and we luckily we missed the noseeums!

Even before we arrived we had gotten a call in San Francisco at 5 a.m. to confirm our reservation...5 a.m.? When we arrived, staff was not friendly or helpful. Our cottage was a disaster. Shabby, old and not well supplied (pots and pans and linens were cheap and battered). Air conditioning was not working, water was leaking from refrigerator, disposal was jammed. Amenities? There were none.
I responded to a request for comments on day 2 of our 3 day stay and one the day before our departure the air conditioning and reefer were fixed. The manager offered a change of cottage, but no one followed up. We did receive an apology from the manager and a partial refund but, it was not a good experience. Also, you get "nickel-dimed" for everything...parking your car, boat to the island, going back to mainland for food. On top of a very expensive "rustic" place to stay, everything is added to your bill.
The boat to and from the island (which they own and charge extra for) often runs late...like 40 minutes late.
We travelled 3,000 miles for this???
Great location , but needs attention.

The house is charming and the deck perfect, but by no means a four star house, more like two and a half. We were disappointed in the overall condition of the house. the mattress has not been turned and has quite a hole on one side, the sheets were old, stained and ripped, dishes were dirty, and the floor was not vacuumed around the baseboards. The kitchen was only just supplied with what you need, it has nice table wear but only one wine glass and three or four other miss matched glasses, few pots and pans and no staples in the cupboard. Also, three outlets in the kitchen did not work Napkins are stained. The fridge leaked and the ice maker is not hooked up.
On the good side the internet worked as did the TV, and the decor was charming. It is a very short walk to the gulf and wonderful shelling. Cayo Costa has the best shelling of all the islands. Watching the planes land on the runway from the porch was delightful. Visit over the water for dinner.Watching the dolphins was a highlight.

I loved North Captiva Island. This was my second vacation there. There's no better place to relax and appreciate nature. There are just enough activities to prevent boredom (swimming, tennis, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and playing on the beach). The sunsets are fantastic. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. It's so nice not to have to deal with the noise of cars and trucks. I can't wait to go back..

We loved everything about our stay on North Captiva Island. The house was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the island was amazing. They even helped us out getting back to mainland through the rough waters of hurricane Sandy. We will be back!

We were extremely pleased with the service in every area we received on North Captiva Island. It is a beautiful island and the people are so friendly. The Gulf View Cottage was very nice and clean. We loved the the jacuzzi tub and the huge, double shower. The only thing that we didn't like was not having a view of the Gulf even though the beach was a very short walk. But we were right on the airstrip and it was very cool to watch the planes land and take off! We very much enjoyed our stay and will definitely return the next chance we get.

This cottage has lots of great things going for it, but a few minor negatives. Positives: located at the north end just about equidistant from the bay or the gulf beaches. High ceilings and lots of windows give it an airy feel. Great front porch. Bathrooms are nice. Very clean. Good washer/dryer. You can watch airplanes land and take off from the house which is either a positive or negative depending on how you feel about airplanes. Negatives: kitchen was very poorly equipped. Only a couple of old pots, very cheap cooking spoons/spatulas, no flat pizza pans or cookie sheets for baking. None of this is a problem if you're only doing basic cooking but I found even making a salad to be challenging due to lack of equipment. Bathrooms are functional but a recommendation would be to install more towel racks in each bathroom since there's only room for 1 towel in each, and also maybe add some wall or door hooks to hang swimsuits on. Beds are ok except for the plastic cover immediately beneath the sheets (not comfortable to sleep on) and very flat pillows (bring your own.) Window blinds are starting to fall apart. A few cosmetic enhancements would really spruce this cabin up and make it a little more comfortable.

We stayed in this same cottage 2 years ago when we got married on the island. I can't say enough about the beauty of the island and the house itself. I love it there. But I was disappointed this time around. First off, the a/C in all of the Ncic houses cannot be set below 75 degrees. This is something that we should have been told before arriving. It wasn't like this the first time we stayed. That wouldn't be such a huge deal if it was an ocean front house with a breeze, but it got a bit stuffy at night and made it close to impossible to sleep. Second, we ate at the club and had drinks several times. We were aware that gratuity was added into the check and had no problem with that, however when we arrived home and checked the bank account against the receipts we had been charge $5-10 more per receipt than what we had signed for. That was extremely disappointing. Read more

Hi, Sorry for any confusion, but our credit card server for Food & Beverage charges authorizes 20% more then the charges and the authorization is removed within 7 days and the actual charge is posted. The charge that is posted is the correct amount. The problem is with automatic gratuity added, the credit card processor does not account for that and the authorizations are always 18% higher then they normally should be. This is something we have tried to get the credit card processor to fix but to no success yet. We apologize for any misunderstanding about setting a/c to 75 as I like to set my own thermostat to 73. I will ask we change this to a lower temperature. The purpose of the thermostat minimum setting is so guests don't set the thermostat too low causing the unit to freeze up.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope everything else was satisfactory. NCIC Management.

We had a great long weekend and found everything the island had to offer just what we were looking for. Long walks on an unspoiled beach, most days we saw only one or two other people except for sunset when we saw 4 other people. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Was worried that not being on the beach would limit us but with the golf cart it was a 1 minute ride to get there and you had something to carry chairs and cooler with. At night there is no light pollution for star gazing and no traffic sounds. Fishing is excellent, I caught pompano, flounder, and snook right off the beach. Didn't meet one unfriendly person on the whole island. Overall it was great. Went for an anniversary trip with my wife but next time will be sure to bring our son and friends with us.

The island was beautiful and the guest service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would have liked to pay a little less for the accomodations especially since we had to pay so much for groceries, but it wasn't a horrible deal. The only complaint was that our golf cart had a bad battery so it wouldn't hold a charge, but it didn't affect our overall experience. I would highly recommend this island to anyone.
