ChicagoFantastic House
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We have vacationed on North Captiva for many years. This is certainly the best house we have stayed in. The owners do a terrific job of keeping it in great condition. Highly recommended.

New Cumberland, PAWonderful vacation on a scenic island
Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We recently traveled to North Captiva Island and stayed in a rental home - Silver Sea Shell. The home was very nice. The owners seemed to think of everything a visitor could need - nicely decorated and very comfortable and close to the beach with views of the Gulf. This was our first trip to he island and the travel plans can be a little intimidating but everything went just fine. I really think this had alot to do with Sarah Rapp who booked the vacation home for us. I can't say enough about how helpful she was and always available for questions. She was amazing! We arrived during tropical storm Debbie so our weather was bad until Tuesday. The pool area is very private with a large covered area adjacent to the pool. There is an oversized table and chairs there which was very nice and allowed to us to spend time outside when the weather was not the best. You absolutely must bring your own groceries - we preordered from Publix - and other than a few minor mistakes it went very well. One complaint we had was that although Ncic did transport our luggage and groceries to the house but they left them outside in the pouring rain !!! The bagged groceries were in plastic bins but the cases of soda, beer etc were not covered and simply fell apart when we tried to carry them into the house. Felt they could have covered our things - including the luggage - with something until we were able to carry it in. We had dinner at the Boat House and it was excellent. Alicia - our chef and Hilary - our hostess were wonderful. Do not miss having the experience of dining there - we loved it !! The golf cart was lots of fun and a great way to get around the island. North Captiva Island is simply beautiful. We were looking for a relaxing vacation with nothing to do but enjoy our surroundings and spend time together without all the hustle bustle of everyday life. It was exactly what we wanted. A very memorable vacation !!

MariettaRelaxing and fun vacation!
Left on 06/29/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We had a wonderful time on our family vacation to North Captiva! There was plenty of things to do to keep our party of 7 entertained! Between going to the beach (morning walks, swimming and evening strolls), lots of shelling, the pool and hot tub, discovering the island on the gulf cart, a day trip to Cayo Costa and Cabbage Key, searching for the manatee, and relaxing, we all enjoyed ourselves! The Silver Seashell is a well maintained, clean, and well stocked home (ton of dvd's, towels, and kitchen accessories). Enjoyed the rooftop view and all of the rooms in the house. Appreciated that two of the bedrooms had twin beds b/c it worked perfectly for us. Lots of space; we never felt crowded. Also liked that the house was so close to a good area of the beach! Very memorable vacation!

Charlottesville, VirginiaBest decision to return to North Cap to enjoy a one of a kind de

Ncic staff was completely professional. The Silver Seashell is a really nice home at a really good location. Not directly on the water but does have pretty water views, especially from the top balcony. Having the golf cart made it easy, especially for grandmother and pick-up of loaner items from the club: beach chairs and umbrella. Of course we enjoyed the hot tub and pool at home but were pleased to also use the club: pools, kayaks, bicycles. House was fully equipped. We suggest that the sofas get a new covering and living room carpet a deep clean.
Our stay was enhanced due to perfect weather, great fishing, abundant wildlife sightings and access to the club amenities. We rented a boat for the day and made a lunch visit to Cabbage Key and its famous restaurant-lots of fun. We chose a very hot day to walk the trails in the state preserved land. Enjoyed the time anyway due to the rugged natural beauty, wildlife, shells and tranquility.
It requires forethought and planning to get to North Cap-but oh so worth it for those that appreciate no cars, no malls and no noise.Response from North Captiva Island Club - 05/22/2012

We had an amazing time staying in The Silver Seashell on North Captiva Island. The staff, Capts. Tedd and Tom, Alesha and Hayley in The Boathouse and the very lovely Brian in the bar went out of their way to provide excellent and effortless service, it was an absolute joy to meet them and we will be recommending Ncic to friends and family in the UK.

MinnesotaGood house that needs some love and cleaning!
Left on 08/20/2011 for a stay in July 2011
The layout, decorations, setup and location of the home were great. However, it needs a thorough cleaning as well as some updates/repairs. The bathrooms were not clean well - master had dark, long hair on floor (we have blonde). Also, there was pet hair everywhere. I felt like I had to rewash all the kitchen items I used before I used them. The showers have a lot of mold - especially the master. The kitchen needs decluttered and a lot of the pans replaced (chipping non-stick). Because there are so many pots and pans (many unnecessary repeats) there is no where to put food other than the refrigerator/freeze. Clear out a cupboard or make some sort of pantry area for guests. There is not a lot of counter space to start with and if you have to fill it up with grocery items you end up with not much work space. Perhaps even setting a baker's rack around the corner from the refrigerator. The front bedroom kids television only worked for video games. We could never get TV to show on it. When we contacted the Island club (twice) we never got any help. We also put in a request for help getting our stuff to the Island club at check out and no one ever showed. We ended up making several trips back and forth ourselves. Overall not what I expected from a "five star" home. We have stayed on the island before and the home was less expensive, five bedroom and clean and well kept. We will come to North Captiva again but will not stay at the Silver Seashell unless improvements are made. On a good note, we loved the pool and how close to the beach we were. Again, the layout of the house was nice.

BostonComplete Relaxation in a Beautiful Place
Left on 03/09/2011 for a stay in February 2011
The Silver Seashell's location was great, just five houses down to the lovely beach. The sand was soft, the water a lovely shade of turquoise, and the piles of shells amazing. We saw sea urchins, hermit crabs, crabs, live conchs and other shells, jellyfish, starfish, dolphins, and many birds along the beach. Having the golf cart made it fun to zip back and forth to places farther away. The house was decorated very nicely and was set up well for comfort and relaxation. The surrounding trees and shrubs made the house feel very private. We often felt like we had the entire island to ourselves.
We were removed from the hustle and bustle, but still had amenities like wireless internet, 4 Tv's, and and iPod dock--things that made our vacation surprisingly more enjoyable. The pool and toys were great. We loved spying on the resident tortoise. The sunsets and stargazing from the rooftop were fantastic. The island was extremely quiet and tidy, not a piece of glass or a cigarette butt to be seen anywhere!
My main complaints: the kitchen was not in great shape--the garbage drawer was broken and didn't pull out easily, the wheel on the dishwasher rack was broken and didn't pull out easily, and we couldn't open the drain in one of the bathroom sinks so we had to keep the plug out of the sink--minor irritations, but ones you don't expect to have at the price we paid. No one came to fix these problems after we reported them.
Tap water tasted terrible so I would recommend bringing drinking water with you. The island's four restaurants were charming and offered great food, though expensive.
I wish the island had recycling and the house more energy efficient features. It seemed a shame to be in such pristine natural surroundings and do damage to the environment at the same time.
We will have great memories of our vacation on North Captiva.
