      Best location on the island

Left on 04/18/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Home is in the perfect spot on a dead end road, no traffic, and overlooking Cayo Costa and Captiva Pass. Maintenance semms to be the issue with all the rentals, except when the owners are directly involved. Little things, like light bulbs missing from fixtures or burned out. We have learned to expect to have to switch all the dead bulbs to one room that we will not be using to the rooms we will be. We have been coming to N. Captiva for 25+ years and know you have to be somewhat self sufficient, but we should not have to pack light bulbs. Now the Ncic is adding a 20.00 "sundries" charge. So now you are charged for toilet paper and soap. Increase the rental 50.00 but leave the extra charge nickle and dime charges off. We flew in our private plane and called before we took off to schedule a pick up on the airstrip..no answer, but left arrival time. We landed and called again, got the same recording and left another message that we were waiting on the airport in the hot sun...called 2 more times, no answer. Finally a resident asked if they could give us a lift, so we left all of our food and luggage on the ground and got a ride to the office. Two employees sitting behind the counter, neither heard the phone.

We apologize for any inconvenience with our phone system. The phone company upgraded our circuit a couple weeks ago and we didn't realize some programming needed to be redone. We have addressed this. As for provisioning the homes, we allow our guests to opt out and bring their own supplies as a savings. This has been requested in the past since many people prefer their own brands. We do routinely check for burnt out bulbs. We may start stocking some in the homes since they do burn out frequently with all the power fluctuations on the island

      Pelican Pointe

Pelican Pointe has beautiful views of the water and beach. The upper deck views are magnificent. The house could use a good cleaning and updating. The kitchen table chairs were unsafe as were the bar stools. Beds were comfortable. We were horrified to find that we had a rat in the master bedroom. We left the door open at night to the front porch that was screened in so we believe it came in through the door. Kitchen was well supplied, it was nice to have a washer and dryer. Dishwasher wasn't working well. Do not think we would rent this house again.

Great location but house needs attenion

Left on 12/19/2012 for a stay in November 2012

We stayed at Pelican Pointe over the Thanksgiving holidays. This property offers the best location, the best views, hot tub with views and elevator. The owners/management need to read these reviews and take action. The house needs attention. Most of the previous complaints cited were still not addressed when we arrived. I had to borrow supplies from the clubs own kitchen to cook spaghetti...no stock pot! Crazy when it's so simple to fix. The dining roon is next to impossible to seat 6 let alone 8! Broken dining chairs that are very dangerous. My biggest disappointment was the "4th bedroom". This is a 3 bedroom house with a den . The 4th room has no door and no privacy and sits right off the dining/kitchen area . I never would have rented it if I had known.

      Great beach front

Left on 07/02/2012 for a stay in June 2012

This is a pretty well equipped home. However, we arrived during Tropical Storm Debby and the entire island was flooded. The golf cart would not go through the roads that were now rivers. Our part of the island was pretty flooded for 3 days so we were under house arrest. We enjoyed the hot tub--although the top was pretty unsightly with a film of scum on it. It was nice to have a second large fridge, but the kitchen freezer did not make any ice which was frustrating. The kitchen is pretty well equipped but did lack a large stock pot and the blender was missing the top. The dining area is really tight and some of the chairs were damaged and dangerous to sit in. The beds were nice and comfortable. We had more problems with management than we did with the house. The master tub did not drain and our calls were ignored by the Ncic. Finally they did respond when we made a personal visit to the office and they did finally clear the drain. There was a lot of broken glass surrounding the property and there was a huge bee nest on the second level near the elevator. The elevator was a godsend getting our stuff to the main floor. Some of the screen has large holes so we plugged them with some tin foil. Don't get me wrong, we'd surely rent this house again as the view is completely amazing and the fact that you don't have to rely on loading a golf cart to go to the beach--- you can walk right out the back door to your own private beach. We saw boats catching big tarpon in the pass which was fun to watch although our fishing only netted about 2 dozen catfish... that may have been due to the weather. We did have about 3.5 hours of power outage on our first day. We did not realize the water ran on a pump so we had to improvise with bathroom options until power was restored. The only extra tv was in the master, but the fact that we were inside for 3 days, it would have been nice to have another for the kids to hook up their Xbox in another bedroom. The house had lot of fun games, cards and poker chips which come in handy when you need a break from the sun. It was a good time and just advise you to keep on management b/c they do have a habit of ignoring you unless you show up in person. Took a while to figure out wifi passcode, but it's on the back on of the router. Lots of handicapped accessibility for older folks with elevator and grab bars in master bath.

Thanks for your review. Tropical Storm Debbie put us behind on service calls with leaks and damaged golf carts. Due to high winds our staff could not get to the island for service for 36 hours. Thanks for your patience.

What a great place to bring a family. The house was most comfortable and very well laid out architectually. Just wish we could of had access to some of the cleaning supplies and equipment (ex. Vacuum cleaner).

      House Excellent

Left on 08/17/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We were very happy with the home although cleaning could have been better. Air condition ducts with dust hanging out as were fans. No supplies to do basic upkeep ie dish towels or windex to clean glass tabletops. We went to the resort desk and were offered bath hand towels for dishes. We would recommend this house but feel the staff was hit or miss and at times acted as if we were bothering them. Our over all impression of that part of the stay was poor but again we stayed to ourselves mostly using the wonderful beach area out front and enjoying the beautiful storms and sunsets from the crows nest on the house. The house has all the amenities you need.

      Captiva Vacation 2011

Left on 07/04/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Very nice house with breathtaking views. Easy access to the beach and surf fishing. This house advertised 4 bedrooms 2-1/2 bath with elevator. We think this house should list as 3 bedroom with study, and the elevator was locked to guest. Golf carts were old and not in good working condition. Several times we had to walk to the pool and boat slip because our golf carts broke down. The only way we would rent this house again would be if Island Club would guarantee a good golf cart!
